Clusters comes and goes. I wonder if he travels a lot. Somtimes he posts nothing for a while, then posts a whole clu..ah nevermind
August 30th, 20105:30 pm
I will say that September can’t come soon enough for this team. Let’s get some fresh arms in the pen, ASAP.
At this point I almost hope Lowe is hurt so he has to go on the DL for an extended period. I hate taking that stance, but you have to admit that it gives the team the best chance to win.
August 30th, 20105:31 pm
And regarding Lowe, I hate to say this but it’s possible he’s got an elbow problem and doesn’t even realize it. Remember 2 years ago when Hudson was shocked that his ligament was torn, and they discovered it had been for some time. Could be a similar situation with Lowe.
August 30th, 20105:32 pm
We was wondering, does anyone else have the same problem with Mitchell on the blog like we have with him on Jeff’s blog? We think he is like a bad rash that could be cured with some Preparation H.
Lowe has got to pitch unless he is hurt. He has not looked good in his last few outings, maybe he’s hurt… not sure. But if he’s healthy, he got to take his turn.
He’s been very good in the post-season in his career by the way.
Sheeesh -Strat-o-Matic? I was an APBA guy back in th dice-throwing days.
August 30th, 20105:33 pm
yes Sonny..he is a rash….No tricks up your sleeve for Jeffy when he comes to play?
August 30th, 20105:34 pm
Freddie Freeman will heretofore be referred to as “F-bomb”
August 30th, 20105:35 pm
They Clusters never tells they secrets. We was thinking about something, but not sure what.
August 30th, 20105:36 pm
I thought Farnsworth already earned that nickname
I bet everybit of Lowe’s contract (if I had it), that the $60 million man is hurt.
August 30th, 20105:37 pm
Bad dog: i guess sarcasm doesnt translate well on the blog
ahhhhh. yes. especially when consuming the print in haste. but I do appreciate the lack of an emoticon on that sarcasm.
Lowe is just getting a few years on him(long in the tooth) and worn down. The heat is getting to him(that’s happens to old folks).
He will rebound with some adjustments and cooler temperatures, also Cox needs to stop pitching him in day games.
Unless something has pulled loose(that happens to old folks too), I think he will be good to go.
He’s a good kid.
Just think if we still had soriano, he’s only leading the Majors in saves, and may even be the AL Cy young winner.
Bravissimo: lol. Well played.
August 30th, 20105:38 pm
DOB or anyone else, Is Reyes out for the series?
August 30th, 20105:39 pm
i dont want anyone to be seriously hurt but it would be nice to see lowe retire at the end of the year….thats alot dough freed up…then try to trade kk and mclouth
yes he is
August 30th, 20105:40 pm
Seriously, “fredi is next”, do you really think the best manager in MLB could only win 1 WS in 14 playoff attempts? Really?
Every time I read this poorly constructed argument I fear for the country, for the game, for the world. There are few levels of life quite as moronic as this. Unfortunately they too post regularly on the blog.
August 30th, 20105:41 pm
kelevra……I’m wishing for world peace and economic recover, myself.
August 30th, 20105:42 pm
Does anyone know what has happened to T. Hanson? Somewhat dissapointing season so far…
Of all the teams in baseball, Atlanta could use CC the most. He brings speed, defense, both of which the Braves have little of. He will go to one the big money teams. Living in the Tampa area is is a joy to watch the Rays play. Great defensive team at all infield and outfied positions. Pitchers and catchers are average at best.
August 30th, 2010
DOB or anyone else, Is Reyes out for the series?
Reyes, Jose (SS) 08/29 Day-to-day TBD Right oblique strain Took practice swings on Aug. 29
August 30th, 20105:43 pm
i do apreciate the lucky number slevin knowledge….it gets old answering the questions
Wayne in Utah
Soriano or Wagner? I don’t know, they are both having good seasons.
August 30th, 20105:44 pm
When the Braves traded Jo-Jo Reyes and Jesse Chavez they must have had a voodoo spell that passed on to Hanson. We think it may have something to do with that old voodoo woman that had her house torn down when the old Braves stadium was built.
August 30th, 20105:45 pm
I’m wishing for world peace and economic recover, myself.
I’ll settle for several billion and tax exempt status.
Wayne in Utah, bigboi,
Imagine if we could have kept Soriano for the 8th, and signed Wagner for the ninth. Our games would have been a 7 inning game…
Go back and look at Hansons game logs. He has been pretty darned good in 8 of his last 10 outings. Does a player have to be perfect?
August 30th, 20105:46 pm
APBA > Strat-O-Matic for sure.
August 30th, 20105:48 pm
True, but that was not going to happen. Wagner was signed once the Braves decided Soriano was not going to resign, then he surprises them and accepts arbitration.
Essentially, we did a Soriano/Gonzo swap for Wagner and Saito. I think we might have gotten the best of that deal overall.
The Braves weren’t going to have two high buck closers on the team.
August 30th, 20105:49 pm
Interesting stat: Ankiel has 27 strikeouts and 25 total bases.
Hudson has 15 strikeouts and 18 total bases
Both have good arms.
August 30th, 20105:51 pm
Hanson, has had a few rough games, but I think the Braves are fortunate to have him(I think Carey said he was a 20 something round draft pick, if I’m not mistaken).
He gives the Braves a chance to win games when he pitches, even if he doesn’t get the W.
hanson problem is not the number of bad games he has but that those bad games quickly turn into horrible games. he has to learn how to manage games when he doesnt have his best stuff
Glen W…. Why does Lowe “have to pitch?” Because of his salary? The guy sucks, and has sucked for his two years in Atlanta. He gives up a ton of hits and very rarely makes past the 6th inning.
August 30th, 20105:53 pm
But, can Hudson gun a runner down at 3rd, from the wall in right-center field?
August 30th, 20105:55 pm
Hope the Braves beat the tails off the Mutts in every game of the series.
Totally apropos of nothings, with Manny Ramirez going to the ChiSox, any chance Andruw Jones would become available? Still strikes out a lot (about as often as Hinske) but would lead the team in homers and stolen bases in only 251 at-bats. Plus his OBP is about the same as Melky’s. Also, may be a good cautionary tale for J-Hey. Finally, I think he may have put his baby in me.
August 30th, 20105:56 pm
Lowe won’t say if his elbow’s hurting, but said he’s going to know more after his bullpen session Tuesday. Braves don’t think it’s anything serious, just soreness pitchers typically get during season.
August 30th, 20105:57 pm
Ted-Aside from the classlessness of wishing Lowe ill (even if you claim to hate that stance), exactly who would you replace him with? Kawakami?
August 30th, 20105:58 pm
Frankie Wren’s post at 4:02 is dead on. Give the Kelly Johnson rhetoric a rest. Like Yunel, Elvis and Neftali, he is gone and not coming back. And Adam Wainwright, Mark Lemke and Biff Pocoroba as well.
August 30th, 2010
I bet huddy could ……..but i prefer not to find out!
TennPaul, you’re a funny dude. And I mean in a good way. Really enjoy your comments.
August 30th, 20105:59 pm
exactly who would you replace him with? Kawakami?
He seems to be closer to the pitching mound today than a week ago. Wonder what will happen in 4 days.
Rob from SC
August 30th, 20106:00 pm
Hanson will be fine when he goes back to being a power pitcher instead of trying to pitch to contact…Ditch the cutter
August 30th, 20106:01 pm
Hanson has started 27 games this year. In 20 of them, he’s given up two or less Earned Runs. In another of them, he gave up three Earned Runs. Seven of those he’s given up two or less ER in, he’s been the losing pitcher.
Now that means he has a bad outing every 4.5 games (on average). Keep in mind he’s just turned 24 and finished his first full year in MLB. He could just as easily be 17-5 with any type of decent run support. If he were 17-5, none of you would be griping at all. Give it a rest.
August 30th, 20106:02 pm
YESSSS ankiels not in the lineup..I’m really happy Nate 2.0 is on the bench gotta good feeling abt tonights game!!!
It was a Moon Pie night at Turner Field recently, and the PR folks had some extras in the back room. Yummm …. gotta love a good Moon Pie.
August 30th, 20106:03 pm
Suppose Wren could put together a package of Glaus and a couple of tradable players (none of the top Minor League pitchers)for Jacoby Ellsbury. Would you do it tonight or tomorrow, so that Ellsbury would be on roster by 8/31? I’m pretty sure I would make that trade. We still have Lee, Hinske and the slick fielding FF at 1B.
August 30th, 20106:05 pm
10-Paul is a greedy son of a gun! I’d only need about 750K and I’d be good to go!
August 30th, 20106:07 pm
Moon Pie and RC Cola!
August 30th, 20106:09 pm
But I dang sure like Ankiel’s arm in CF. I like our team better when he is playing, as he makes the defense better.
August 30th, 20106:10 pm
Ellsbury is out for the year
August 30th, 20106:11 pm
Jim-You are aware that Ellsbury has missed almost the entire season, playing in only 18 games and that he hasn’t played in over two weeks?
I prefer Ankiel over Melky in CF as well.
Oh man, I have played APBA for over 40 years. Face to face leagues and mail leagues. Some of my best friends I meet during the drafts.
Selleck Waterfall Sandwich
August 30th, 20106:12 pm
Dave…important question here: who is the best-looking Braves W.A.G.?
Did they have any of the Lemon flavored Moon Pies?
Selleck, get back to the Gray Goose
August 30th, 20106:13 pm
Chocolate, banana, vanilla. Cracker Barrel has a few new ones now.
August 30th, 20106:15 pm
Still have never had a Moon Pie…wouldn’t want to be unhealthy, after all
August 30th, 20106:16 pm
August 30th, 20106:17 pm
I’ve had LOTS of moon pies!
What was the deal with Prado dumping dirt on McCann after the win yesterday? After watching the replay, Mac seemed pretty disturbed by it while walking towards the dugout. David Ross stopped Brian in his tracks in what seemed as an attempt to calm McCann down…almost as if he said he would take care of the situation.
A can of sardines(aka as a fish platter), a Moon Pie and an R-o-C cola, followed by a big chaw of Redman. All the basic food groups in one meal.
August 30th, 20106:18 pm
rekingball – hahaha!
Melky is to Moon Pies as Buba Gump is to shrimp. When Melky dives(or stumbles) for a ball, who comes out and sweeps up the crumbs?
August 30th, 20106:19 pm
If it ain’t a chocolate moon pie, it ain’t a real moon pie.
August 30th, 20106:20 pm
I dont like moonpies, but Cheerwine kicks ass!
August 30th, 20106:21 pm
Jackson Browne’s “Running on Empty” on stadium PA. That’s one classic-rock song I never, ever get tired of.
Chocalate is the best, but those lemon pies were good for a change of pace.
August 30th, 20106:22 pm
Wayne, it was indeed a chocolate Moon Pie. And I’ve got one more for the late innings.
Moonpies in the microwave….mmmmmmmmmmmm
August 30th, 20106:23 pm
You GOTTA have Jim get you a moon pie. Sometimes a girl has to live dangerously!
What was the Jackson Browne song that was on one his 1st albums, where he wound up buying his girlfriend a washing machine?
August 30th, 20106:24 pm
Our master plan has worked! We have overtaken the Braves blog. Mwhahahaha….mwahahahah….mwuhuhuhuhuh.
August 30th, 20106:26 pm
Wayne in Utah -
and where do you propose this Moon Pie will come from? I don’t even think they sell them out here…
August 30th, 20106:27 pm
We were always so poor, that we used to stack about a half dozen on those Moon Pies on top of each other, and use them for wedding cakes, when one of the girls got married.
But we all used the vanilla flavored one for that.
August 30th, 20106:28 pm
August 30th, 20106:29 pm
August 30th, 20106:30 pm
You can order Moon Pies off that new thing they got now, I think it’s called the internet. I believe Al Gore invented it.
seriously, what is a moon pie?
I bet if you entered moon pies into the search box on eBay, you’d find some.
August 30th, 20106:31 pm
Bartholomew (Bat) Masterson
I volunteer Soph to Fed X you some.
August 30th, 20106:32 pm
Bobbeeeee’s & cab -
August 30th, 20106:33 pm
Ummm, the shipping on the Moon Pies costs more then the actual Moon Pies. Nope.
Coach (2011 or Bust)
August 30th, 20106:34 pm
Trading Glaus is pure fantasy league drivel.
The man’s value is far beyond some would be prospect. The idea itself is just stupid to the point of idiocracy. I mean, Derek Lee has done nothing to date, Hinske is a back up and in spite of the hype surrounding Fredddie Freeman he has yet to see one single big league pitch.
Troy Glaus is going nowhere, period. End of story.
I lived in northern California for 15 years. There ARE moon pies in convenience stores……..AM/PM Mini Mart and 7-11’s.
You need to get out more!
August 30th, 20106:35 pm
An RC cola and a moon pie………pure heaven.
August 30th, 20106:36 pm
I guess eBay doesn’t allow selling food so no moon pies on there. I’d be happy to FedEx some. Can’t deprive the west coast of moon pies.
Not places I tend to hit up with regularity…
August 30th, 20106:37 pm
Hey DOB thanks for the long explanation about the Yunel trade on the atlantabaseballtalk podcast. I was a big Yunel fan but had no idea he was such a polarizing figure in the clubhouse, so appreciate the information. We baseball fans for the most part are 99% ignorant of what is actually taking place with the team and blog with our hearts so I will never blog again that Yunel should’ve stayed with the team.
I found Moon Pies on eBay But there is NO WAY I am buying food from an auction site…just…ewwwwww
Dob…I still cant get an answer….Do the AAA guys not have traveling scouts? I thought I saw Carroll mention that….That would make a big difference in stats to me.
cab prefers fried beer over moon pies.
