I know this is a late comment, but I’ve been working while watching the game. But that run from 1st from Heyward on a single is exactly why everyone who sees him comes away flabberghasted at not his talent, which is prodigous and obvious, but his baseball IQ, which is preternatural and beyond his years. In business and in life, you come across folks who just “get it.” J-Hey is obviously that kind of individual and why he is going to be an asset to our team for hopefully 15-20 years. My 5 year old is obsessed with him and I love teaching him why Jason is such a great example of how to play the game. From DOB’s latest bloggage, it sounds as if Freddie Freeman is a carbon copy. Our future is bright, folks!
Facts! we will agree to disagree!
August 30th, 201010:01 pm
ho sit down!
McFann :Ô: :Ô:
That was a strike!
Farnsworth last had a 1-2-3 inning on Aug 14th against the Dodgers. He K’d Blake, Kemp, then Carroll flied out.
That was 5 outings ago before tonight.
August 30th, 201010:02 pm
Feeanch, J-Hey brings something that we haven’t seen in a while (Hinske is one also) and that is non-bobbyness. He brings hustle, grit, determination, and the willingness to take a shot and not play conservative.
August 30th, 201010:03 pm
Chop it ladies!
Ha, was that a Mets fan that they were chopping?
August 30th, 201010:04 pm
cabravesfan one of my favorite clips (still) is the one from a few years back when Smoltzie was mic’d up and he was making fun of Mac and Mac got all annoyed and walked away…Smoltzie was left begging him to come back
That was hilarious! I bought that game off iTunes.
westgabrave Mac is on pace to do what he alwasy does…..25 ish home runs and 90ish rbi’s and hit somewhere close to 300 before its all done
Oh yeah! If he keeps this up, he sure will! All’s that’s missing now, really, are the…D-D-Doubles…
Facts Is Facts
The defensive stats like UTZ and the like are like quality start stats.
I agree with the esteemed Don Sutton on that one. Basically giving up 3 runs in only 6 innings work ain’t no real quality start. Just another manufactured stat to give the stat nerds more input into the workings and selling of the MLB product.
Braves All the Way
At least during this recent teo week strecth of Braves baseball the braves have not had to use Wagner. So he Should be well rested. By the way, does anybody know the last time wagner pitched. Was it Friday in Chicago?
Probably nothing to get TOO excited about, but Farnsworth looked really good that inning.
Of course its a 9-3 game. So that helps.
But hitting 97 on the gun is a very nice sight. Or is it? I mean, with that outing, Bobby might feel more comfortable in bringing him in in a tight game later this week.
August 30th, 201010:05 pm
Brian from SC–
I have a big Q about WAR, but I’ll wait to ask it when there’s no game going on…
Braves All The Way …. Im pretty sure he pitched this weekend in one of the blowout games. Just to get some work. Friday night maybe?
August 30th, 201010:06 pm
First pitch fastball and he’s hacking away. Good to see.
August 30th, 201010:07 pm
J-Hey looks like Pig Pen.
#1-5 in the Braves order all with 2+hits. HOw many times has that happened this year?
They just showed Kolb’s dad
Braves All the Way
August 30th, 2010
He pitched in the marlins loss on friday….he took the all time strikeout record for LH relievers.
Dan Kolb's Mom
lol he does look like pig pen
August 30th, 201010:08 pm
wags pitched friday night in the blow out just to get some work in….broke the so record for lefty relievers in that game
Brave4life-1995 all over again??
4 hit game
I Miss Ted Turner (formerly I Love Derrek Lee)
Kid’s having himself a night.
Heyward hits infield grounders harder than anyone I have ever seen
August 30th, 201010:09 pm
4 for 5….
Heyward making his push for ROY
August 30th, 201010:10 pm
Much thanks to blog for their answers. Living in DC I went to Nationals game friday night and did not see the braves game.
DKM he does look like pig pen
And I bet he could raise a cloud of dust in a snow storm.
August 30th, 201010:11 pm
This has to be the most loaded Rookie of the Year race in history. It’s insane. There are like 8 to 10 guys that could be in the conversation.
KK gave up a dinger a start to AAA hitters
Not a Hall of Fame w/out Dale Murphy
August 30th, 201010:13 pm
For everyone who complains about the Lowe or KK contracts just remember it could always be worse. Oliver Perez must show up in a ski mask with a gun to get paid. 12 mil a year for 3-4 6.82 ERA in 09 and 0-4 6.70 ERA this year. He also still has a year left.
Let Farnsworth pitch two tonight.
show some pop Lee
18 thousand at turner field tonight to watch the first place
August 30th, 201010:14 pm
Was just thinking about a potential 2012 rotation when I saw Medlin on the bench…..Hudson, Hanson, JJ, Medlin and Minor…..and that doesnt take into account some of the other Kids coming up ( and also assumes by then they can flush Lowe’s contract…..but that could be one hell of a strong rotation
Evening all. Looking back, I see we have and idiot of the night proclaiming that Jason Heyward is a poor defensive outfielder because he misjudged where the wall was on the fly ball. He admittedly should have caught that ball, but every defensive metric shows that he is well above average defensively.
What a tool.
That mighta been the only bright spot for the mets tonight
Their Kawakami is doing good
Another 4 hit game for Heyward.
It would be nice to see ole Derrek actually drive the ball somewhere. With authority. That would be a welcome sight.
Maybe he’s just saving it for tomorrow.
August 30th, 201010:15 pm
18,842 fans at the ole ball park
Need more fans to show up
westgadave, guess we should just throw Huddy away?? WTF
JC … I’m not here to defend the dude. But he didn’t say … or at least I didnt read … that he thought Heyward was a poor defender.
Said he wasn’t great.
August 30th, 201010:16 pm
Chili if you havent already check out Kurkjan’s column in espn about that very topic……pretty good read
9-3 and Cox is using Billy Wagner? Really.
Does Wagner really need to pitch tonight to stay sharp?
I’m afraid Derrek’s almost done.
August 30th, 201010:17 pm
Hoot–why dont you re-read the post…I mentioned Huddy first
Yeah. What the heck is this? I’m not a huge fan of this. Only because it’s Billy Wagner. He knows what the F he’s doing. If he needs some extra work, he can get it on the side. No need to pitch in a game like this … just to stay sharp.
Mets broadcasters are giving Atlanta fans there for not being there on a Monday night during school. Somebody tell these idiots that NYC and Philly area schools don’t start until after Labor Day. Makes a difference…
August 30th, 201010:18 pm
oops, meant giving ATL fans hell…
this is only the third time in 10 days Wagner has pitched
westga … apologies, but which topic is the column on? Lee?
westgadave, my bad. Three beers you would think wouldn’t do that to me. Getting to be a lightweight. Sorry.
August 30th, 201010:19 pm
So remind me why Wagner is in the game? Everyone knows closer’s aren’t pumped in non save situations not to mention he’s 39 years old.
There’s a good chance the next three games are going to be close …. this is the Braves after all. I’d hate for Wagner not be available on Wed. or Thurs. because he pitched in a 9-3 game on Monday.
Again. He’s a vet. He knows what it takes to stay sharp and not get rusty.
August 30th, 201010:20 pm
Chili…its on the crop of rookies in the National League this year.
This is such a great game to make you have a calm and relaxing night.
Ahh. Thanks. I’ll make sure to read it.
August 30th, 201010:21 pm
Thank goodness Wagner is not some Dan Kolb (actually I mean Bob Wickman) who would complain about pitching in a non save. Seriously Dave you need to apologize to Kolb before he tracks you down. Kolb looks as mean as Farnsworth.
August 30th, 201010:22 pm
Derek Lee has hit 2 balls hard since he has been with the Braves. One down the 3rd base line in Chicago, another at Aramis Ramirez in Chicago. THAT’S IT. Seriously people, I challenge you to think of another time he hit a ball even remotely hard…. the guy is done. Hurry back Troy…
Third basemen makes play on popup by a Mets hitter. That didn’t happen in April
August 30th, 201010:23 pm
Its crazy Francoeur hit a game-winning HR off Billy Wagner. Truly, it’s almost unbelievable.
Derek Lee has hit 2 balls hard since he has been with the Braves. One down the 3rd base line in Colorado, another at Aramis Ramirez in Chicago. THAT’S IT. Seriously people, I challenge you to think of another time he hit a ball even remotely hard…. the guy is done. Hurry back Troy…
Should I ask why Billy is closing?
Frenchy being Frenchy.
Why are these idiot broadcasters concerned about our attendence? Before school started back, we had some of the biggest crowds on weekdays I can ever recall seeing at the Ted. The Mets broadcasters should be more worried about how they’ll be occupying their time over the next decade while the Mutts don’t compete.
Kinda surprised to see Wags in there with no off day this week…….but wouldnt be shocked to learn that he asked bobby to put him in there…..DOb might could enlighten us on that later
No Mitchell. You shouldn’t.
McFann ;Ô; ;Ô;
Thing of beauty!!
August 30th, 201010:24 pm
Real hard to see that one coming, huh?
Great game Braves. Go LA!
Good win tonight

Braves Magic Number: 30
So the Chapman kid hit 105 on the gun … and it was fouled back?
Geez. This game is getting insane.
Every win is big. I feel bad for the Mets. They can’t seem to beat us. It’s a shame.
We need to sweep.
I’m concerned that we have to rely on the dodgers to beat the phillies…Yuck!
Big Tom Callahan
Because Wagner hadn’t pitched but once in 10 days.
Keep telling you it aint magic number. We need to win 18 more.
August 30th, 201010:26 pm
How nice would it be to see J-Hey go on another April-like tear?
Just flipped over to the Dodgers’ station. Might just have to stay up awhile to listen to Vin. What a treat.
Seriously, why do you feel the need to repeat your posts every few minutes? WE GET IT!
JC Bravo…. School or not, there should be more people at the game. This is exactly why the rest of the country views Atlanta as a “bad” sports city. You think it would be half empty in Boston, NY, or Philly during the school year?
Okay then cabravesfan.
I stopped watching a while ago. I guess it’s not that surprising.
I still say the Braves need to petition MLB to not play on Tuesday/Wednesday afternoon to start the play-offs.
Or else, more griping about attendance.
If the Bravos just go 17 and 14 the rest of the way 931 left) they finish with 93 wins…..is that enough to guarantee postseason?…….Im thinking it prob is, even if it doesnt win the division outright.
August 30th, 201010:27 pm
meant 31 left-sorry
I guess the Phillies trolls have learned their lesson coming onto this blog and bragging about a Braves lose before the last out of the game is recorded. Sopheeee ?!? (wink)
You ever seen the Waterboy? Just like that Vicky Vallencourt (spelling?) said, Braves need 18 wins from here.
He’s barely pitched in the last week…gotta stay fresh. That’s all
the only reason i repeated it was because there was a mistake in the first one
August 30th, 201010:28 pm
Bitchell, they ain’t gonna win all 31 remaining. On the nights they lose I’m sure you’ll be out in full throated Chicken Little mode.
Good start LA!
Mitchell–do you realize we came into tonight with a losing record aganst the muts so far this season???
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
