If Hanson expects to chalk up a win, he’d better plan on pitching a shut out, as should every Braves pitcher from here on out through the rest of the season.

Swept by the Rockies, blew a 9 run lead and still increased their lead in the east. The Braves are leading a charmed life.

I think the Braves have more than a snowball’s chance in hell this year ( ignoring the last series). How do I change my screen name to Snowball, the killer goat.?

Braves Fans!! This is it, people. We stink . Phillies stink even worse. This division should be decided pretty much by Wednesday, September 1st — should the Braves somehow begin to play well again. We have every advantage known to any baseball fan. Home vs. Away next SIX ballgames! Quality of opposition. Us, Marlins/Mets at home. Phillies, Padres/Dodgers on the road. We need every “killer instinct” from every Braves player RIGHT NOW!! Finish the deal, guys. Fans all over the country are pulling for you! Finish the deal. Five or six games up on September 2nd would be hard for any second place team to overcome…

First a word or two about THAT GAME! EEEEEEEgads! I hate it when I see our guys celebrating their good fortune when scoring several (but not enough) runs… like Prado and others. They were celebrating
way to early. Then they had to live with the destruction that befell them and they were not “pretty” in their loss. Suddenly, they were gooooooood! Ha! Thousands of us were shouting at the big screen…. “NO, NO, WAIT until it’s really over! Ah……ta heck wit it! We now need to see if we can beat the fishes.

The good news is…the braves are home, up 3 games, and hit rock bottom and will have a great home stand! Hopefully the phillies have a bad road trip as well.

Hey Kevin, where was GB’s capitalism taking this country before this President took office?I wish Bobby knew how to manage smallball because in playoffs(if we make it and I believe we will)you must be able to manufacture runs because you only see the best pitchers and there are not a lot of 3run homers.Blanco was perfect for this team as a leadoff hitter but he could’ not hit homers and that is BC’s dream,a team and players capable of hitting them. That’s why KJ

As I was saying,BC love guys that hit taters and that’s why he got McLough and our present centerfielder.Shaffer was also suppose to hit the long ball.Even when BC had D.Sanders and O.Nixon he didn’t know how to use them. When Gregor was playing he brought speed and excitement to the team.He and Glaus sparked that surge that got this Team rolling. He is the forgotten man and had no bizness being benched and sent down.BC put McLough bavk in the lineup and that’s when this team began to struggle because BC can’t manage SMALLBALL….GO BRAVES

According to Baseball Prospectus’ Postseason odds, the Braves now have an 89% chance of winning the division, with the Phillies at 11%. Anyone hitting the panic button because of one bullpen meltdown needs to check him/her self. Wake up, people. The Braves didn’t accumulate this record by being a bad team. They are very, very good, and they’re going to win the NL East. Stopping whining about every little thing that’s imperfect and enjoy playoff baseball for the first time since 2005. Try and enjoy having a winning team. It’s fun.

Freddie Freeman last night: 5 for 5, 1 dinger, 4 RBI. Probably AAA player of the year. Can’t wait for the Sept 1 expanded rosters. But Bobby will probably let him pinch-hit twice per week . . .

All this negativity….my goodness, people. Don’t you know a team of destiny when you see one? We get swept in a three-game set and pickup a 1/2 game in the standings? Get off the bus if you don’t want to enjoy the ride. The baseball Gods are smiling on our Braves.

We have a tough series ahead. The fish are not going to roll over for us..We ALWAYS have a hard time against a team we should beat…Any team can beat any other team any day of the week. These games are bobby’s to win or lose. Either the players are motivated or not motivated, that’s his job. He needs to put the right team on the field. We also need to play small ball, hit run steal whatever it takes to win. If we compete we win…..

A topic of discussion not related to panicking about the Braves – ESPN is saying that Strasburg is going to need Tommy John surgery. The kid’s pitched 12 games in the majors, and he already needs surgery. Given, a lot of guys come back even stronger from TJ these days, which, in this kid’s case is a scary thought for hitters. I just hope he doesn’t turn into another one of these pitchers who can never stay healthy. Washington fans have to be inconsolable right now.

Agree Floyd, not sure about “team of destiny” but its pretty sad when you get swept 3 games and still gain 1/2 game. That was actually more like a golden opportunity missed by Braves and Phillies. Oh well, close race is more exciting I guess.

Hey now, this is how baseball is. Teams get into slumps. The braves got swept so did the phillies. Now we come home to play marlins and mets, and the phillies go on the road against dodgers and padres. The stars will realign for the braves now.

I got it –

Part of the problem is they don’t seem to be able to execute small ball. We’ve had trouble laying down bunts and getting runners in on sacrifice flies. That is one of the criticisms I do have of this team, along with the defense. There’s no reason a player in the majors consistently cannot do these small things.

Of course, half the time the Braves try playing small ball, the fans complain about why they’re having a good hitter like Infante or Prado bunt, or they get upset if a runner gets caught stealing.

With the Fils out west for the next 7 games and the Braves at home for the next 6, we need to put some serious distance in the standings…esp. now that the Fils are slumping having just lost 4 in a sweep to the Stros. 3 games up today, should be up at least 6 by Sept 3.

You people are idiots. This team is in first place and you hate them. Amazing. Fact of the matter is that the last 4 days the magic number was reduced by 1 each day. Be grateful. They were just days on the schedule. Forget them and go play Florida. Don’t forget the Phils are in SD and LA while we play the Marlins and Mets. And dont go giving me that garbage about the Marlins and Nats having our number. These arent the same teams since July 31st.

The Marlins are done. Their ownership has been exposed as liars and the fans down here are furious. Marlins ownership tricked taxpayers into paying for a stadium. They were pocketing profits AND luxury tax revenue all the while claiming they didn’t have money to spend on free agents.

So, the team gets swept when everyone thinks they should have won the series. Here are some of the comments from the blog…

“You could say this is another management failure by the GM”

“Turn out the lights, the partys over. This team stinks and will for years to come”

“Fortunately, I didn’t watch them. Are they Lazy or choking?”

“they need to … play better small ball”

“The front office wise guys are clueless so thats a given”

No, not an AJC blog. This is from the Philadelphia Inquirer commenting on the Phillies being swept in a 4 game series by the Astros!

Every day here I was reading how the Braves season was lost and they would be in 2nd place by this weekend. Well, this morning they have a 3 game lead on the Phillies.

All is NOT lost. Every team has some bad games. The good teams bounce back to win. Watching the Braves this year I would say they are a good team and certainly capable of winning.

YAWN…we take 2 of 3…division lead doesn’t change.

My prediction is based on the past 30 games or so. Neither team is rolling when the other isn’t. We win, Phils win, we lose, they lose. This weekend will be more of the same.
