Jesus Christ. I dont get this team sometimes. They have beaten some of the best pitchers in the game this year, but they make all these no name pitchers on last place teams look like Cy Young candidates. Getting dominated by Gorzellany,John Lannan, Scot Olsen… just unnacceptable
If any one game shows how utterly hopeless they are without the stellar starting pitching and bullpen work they’ve been getting of late it would be this one. This is embarrassing.
It really is amazing that they are still in first place.
They’ve been having to scratch and claw for wins against some of the worst teams in the league.
It’s pathetic. Just say it. They suck. It feels good doesn’t it?

I hope Wren doesn’t fall in love with Gorzelanny based on this performance. He’s a former Pirate, and I’m not wild about our recent track record with their former personnel.
Except, Bitchell, that there’s no reason to expect the great pitching to cease. Guess what? They ain’t gonna win ‘em all the rest of the way. And this one’s not even over just yet.
He has also given horrible contracts/extensions to KK, Lowe, and Chipper and signed worthless players like Melky, Hinske, and Glaus. How does he still have a job? I guess they are waiting until the team collapses and the season is over by mid Sept.
You would think that a team would be fired up after yesterdays comeback, but they just showed up today and thought they were going to win. Bad defense, passive batting and Hanson playing the Jekell n Hyde today doomed them today. Derek Lee didnt help much either. Watch and see by the end of the season, he’ll be on the DL.
Lee has played less then 2 full games with the Braves!! Why don’t you wait a few more hours before you say he was a crappy trade…besides, you want Troy back?
There is no point in Bitchelling about the offense. It’s not great but adequate enough to win 60% of the time with this pitching staff. No NL team has it all (Pads offense worse than ours, Philly no pitching depth/bullpen, etc.). We are a tea that is going to win a bunch of 3-2 games.
Deal with it or quit watching but, for the love of god, quit blogging.
I’ve watched the Braves for 34 yrs and this team reminds me of the 91 team. Not really that good just figured out how to win and kept winning and no one could explain why.
Hanson has sucky day but in the end it wouldn’t matter. The Braves were not going to score anyway. He would be losing or tied at best. Pathetic offense. Funny Akiel, Gonzalez and Lee fit right in (aside from a couple of decent moments) and can’t hit with the rest of them…its contagious!

The 1991 Braves had a great lead-off hitter, had an MVP at third base, had great pitching, traded for a closer that proved to be light’s out, got good production from every outfield spot (including the lead-off hitter) I mentioned.
I think this team is a lot different than 1991. This team knows how to win, but offensively, always seems to be patching a hole and praying that the pitching keeps them in the game so they can hopefully squeak out a win.
Braves runs scored in August …
1,4,2, 8,3,2, 3,6,4, 4,8,1, 1,13,4, 10,3,2, 5,1 (so far) …
0,1,2 runs … 6 games
3,4 runs … 7 games
more than 4 runs … 6 games
Not sure why all the b…ching. 6 nearly certain wins, 7 probable wins with the Braves pitching, and 6 games that need some great pitching to win. Should be something like 13-6 through that stretch based on runs scored.
You don’t even have the tying run on base so when you’re down 4 in the 8th…… don’t guess! Just protect the plate and don’t take a fastball strike 3 down the middle of the plate!
I think the Braves are patient hitters to a fault sometimes. That’s why they don’t hit as good for average. The stats on hitting first pitch strikes are know from little league on. They’ve had to scratch and claw for runs for more than a month actually –
If they’re pitching hadn’t stepped up like it has in July and August – this team would be nowhere near 1st place.
