I Love Derrek Lee. With Nick I love to make fun of him when he calls a ball game and the Braves come back, but other than that I just read and laugh at his posts, same with Mitchell. The Phillies fans are just so easy, but they deserve it, since they do the same. If a Philly fan comes on just to talk the game, that is fine with me and I can be civil with them, as well.

Bravo To da Braves yet again squander 1st and 2nd in the first inning and do nothing and then the cubs who suck score 2 then 2 innings later they score 3 more. Bravo to a pathetic lineup and offense. Hello Gorzelanny was a Pirate and not an Ace. there is no way we should be losing whatsoever to him.. Hanson once again gives up 5 and no run support.. The Lee Trade hasnt helped at all so far. 0-6

Katherine: The key word in your reply is YET. The offense and defense is poor and the pressure is constantly put on the pitching staff. I am impressed as h+ll with what this team has done this year, but the talent level of the position players is poor at best, Diaz, Cabrera, Ankiel, Ross are all decent bench players, Heyward still plays like a rookie(the injury has hurt his production as well),Lee has had his worst season in 10 years, Gonzalez is just an average player both on offense and defense. We get consistent production from 3 players, Infante, Prado and McCann.
The Phillies will move past us and we will be left in the dust of other wild card contenders, unless the poor defense greatly improves and the hitting becomes more consistent throughout the game.

I don’t know if you can instantly make Venters the closer. The guy comes out of nowhere and pitches like this for one year.
Next year, who knows? Maybe he’s the next Will Ohman or Chris Hammond.
I hope he’s great, but I’d like to see the Braves have someone else identified as the closer (a right hander perhaps), and hope that Venters can begin to share the responsibility some.
Get him ready to take over in case of injury, and then perhaps be ready to close in 2012.
Just my very limited opinion.

Yeah, I know it may seem overly optimistic. If we weren’t playing the Cubs in late August, I wouldn’t like our chances. The Cubs have mailed it in, and a run here and a run there and we’re right back in it.

Big Tom Callahan – Hanson doesn’t have an out pitch. That’s why his BAA with the count 0-2 is .233 while Tim Hudson’s BAA with an 0-2 count is .057.

I can see letting Tomy hit there. He had a strong fourth inning and you don’t want to waste Conrad or Hinske yet. Anybody else you send up is almost as likely to make an out as Hanson.

As good as Wagner has been, he’s blown 8 save opportunities. Also if he has a good postseason it’ll be the first time. He’s been just AWFUL in playoffs.
Now for Hanson, the kid has to learn to limit damage. That’s the one area he shows his age.

I cannot imagine the gamut of emotions Derrek Lee has experienced the past few days and the toll it’s taken on him. It’s unfortunate that his transition to the Braves happened this way and I’m not at all surprised at his performance. He’ll settle down, it just may be away from Wrigley Field.

So an hour ago the Braves had 92 errors. What the heck are we up to now? Right after pitching, is supposed to come defense, right? What this team’s record might be (I know they’re in 1st and love that fact!) with this pitching staff if they at least played better defense, with the offense just as it is!

Maybe try waiting a little longer than 1 1/2 games before judging a trade? Ever think the guy is a bit nervous playing in Chicago in a different uni? Hey these guys are not human, are they? 0-7 in his first two games means he’s going fail the next 100 times as well, right?
The problem with most of the kneee jerk posters around here is they expect instant gratification of every aspect of the game. Baseball is not very enjoyable for those that hang on every pitch or every game. It’s a marathon. 1000’s of things go right & 1000’s of things go wrong every season & that includes whichever teams make the playoffs & the eventual World Series champion.
I don’t know what’s wrong with some of you nitwits who expect success every AB, pitch or game. Maybe you never played the game or understand it. Maybe it’s how you were raised, who knows.
