Clippard to pitch the 8th….still 5-1 Nats
August 21st, 20109:44 pm
Yeah, I wouldn’t mind seeing Eddie get the job either.
August 21st, 20109:46 pm
here come the professionals!
August 21st, 20109:47 pm
One inning to go…
Still 5-1 going into the 9th

No thanks to Ned Yost. The guy’s got people skills problems. Thanks KC

Desmond singles, Dunn walks, no outs
August 21st, 20109:56 pm
8-1 NATS. THANK U STRASBURG AND BATS ..
and Roger Bernadina.. 3 run shot.
Yes … thank you Nats!!
August 21st, 20109:57 pm
Well done, Bernadina…
Bernadina homers 8-1 Nats
at least Don can shut his mouth about the Phillies picking up a game on ATL this evening… we win tomorrow, we win another series… nuf said
August 21st, 20109:58 pm
Hey, at least we didn’t get blown out by the Cubbies.
I feel good about this one:
Magic Number 38 after the Phis bat in the 9th.
Phils have 2 runs in 16 innings so far against Washington, in this series. Only 4.1 of those innings were pitched by S. Strasburg.
where all the Phils fans?
August 21st, 201010:00 pm
thank you Nats
as a Braves fan, you gotta feel good about the Phillies bullpen. they are AWFUL. and teams with bad bullpens either don’t make it to the postseason, or get knocked out pretty fast if they do.
So the nats have scored 8 runs in 2 days on the best team to ever play the game and the best team to ever play the game has scored 2 runs in 2 days on one of the worst teams in baseball.
August 21st, 201010:01 pm
August 21st, 201010:02 pm
And yes, thank you, Nats.

Well…been a big day. That sun was absolutely BRUTAL–add that to moving your Brother into college, well…it’s rougher than it’s s’posed to be.
Guess I didn’t miss anything game-wise, huh? (ITS) Sheesh, and everybody screaming for Guess Who to pinch bat, too…nice…
UKUGA [McFann] arises from her afternoon slumber . . .
Ha…I wasn’t in a slumber this afternoon, but boy-oh-boy, am I gonna sleep like a baby tonight (I hope).
Brava Sorry, McFann, if you read this, but gotta call em like I see em.
I know, I know…he’s uh…I don’t know what’s up with him. He’s had some really good stretches this year, but man…there’s something about him this year. I can’t explain it, mostly ’cause he’s my favorite player…
Wonder how bad Strasberg’s injury is? That’s the story of that game.
August 21st, 201010:06 pm
That Strasburg injury didn’t look good. Looked a lot like Medlen although a little more painful.
August 21st, 201010:07 pm
McFann – for some reason I thought your brother was going to GT for school. Since I know they already started because a friend of mine moved her son last weekend…guess not?
Coach (2011 or Bust)
August 21st, 201010:09 pm
What team has spent the last 73 games in first place?
OK, now I’m gonna sit back and let the idiots explain to me how the same team is going to implode in their remaining 39 contests.
August 21st, 201010:10 pm
Ryan “The Babe” Howard flies out?
Rob from SC
McFann Ô Ô
Are you in college, or a senior in HS?
Shane “Joltin Joe” Victorino strikes out?
August 21st, 201010:11 pm
Hope Strasberg’s OK. A major injury to him is a big blow to that franchise. Even if he is OK, I don’t see the Nats letting him pitch anymore this year.
That’s the big drawback with making a pitcher your No. 1 pick. Arm injuries are so common.
come on no walks
August 21st, 201010:12 pm
When was the last time the braves swept someone ?!?
August 21st, 201010:13 pm
I guess jeffrey overrated the immediate impact of the return of Howard to the lineup… apparently they will not go 42-0…
i like Eddie Perez, too, but I think I’d rather have a guy with more managerial experience than one year at AA.
August 21st, 201010:14 pm
BALLGAME. STILL 2.5 NOW WHOOP THE CUBS TOMM PLEASE.
August 21st, 201010:15 pm
Can you imagine the reaction in baseball if Strasburg needs TJ surgery……Poor nats
Looks like it was a garter snake in the grass tonight.
August 21st, 201010:16 pm
Dan…not sure how much you count it but he manages a winter team in venezula for maybe 4 years now
It’s baseball babe….it happens.
and I really hope Stasberg isn’t seriously injured, but I fear the worst… it really looked like he felt something pop in his elbow.
August 21st, 201010:17 pm
ESPN calling Strasburg’s injury a Wrist thing…even if it’s a pulled muscle, if I were the Nats, he doesn’t pitch another inning this year…no reason to risk the future of the team on meaningless games…
August 21st, 201010:18 pm
Still lookin’ like 2.5 up.
The Magic lives on even after the Braves bat in the ninth, it is sooo strong it goes to Citizen Park and the little Phillys lose, poo poo.still 2.5
Had an adventure after everything was finished at the college: We left at like 6 o’clock Kansas time, and we’re about an hour or so from the hotel, and hungry. But you know how it is when you’re slightly overheated–not much of an appetite, per se…but we gotta eat. We passed a few places, then decided Burger King sounded good–ICEE!!!–so we’re driving…driving…driving…get close to the hotel, and still no Burger King. And now we’re crazy hungry…anything’s good (except “that place”…). Mommy then saw a sign for Jason’s Deli. SWEET! So we drive into the shopping center, aaaaaand Jason’s is closed. It’s passed 7 Kansas time, our stomachs are still on 8 ET. We finally found an Applebees’…that worked…good chicken fingers…
The Royals/White Sox game was on one of the TVs near our table, but they never put any scores at the bottom of the screen…no big deal since they lost, though…
August 21st, 201010:19 pm
The Philadelphia “1927 Yankees” Phillies lost?
Shut yo mouth!
August 21st, 201010:20 pm
MUST WIN tomorrow. It’s gonna be tough on little Minor. Cubs got some good RH hitters.
August 21st, 201010:21 pm
No he’s going to Benedictine College out here in Kansas!
Yeah, I’m a senior. Haven’t decided what I’m gonna do for college, but it’s gonna be close to home…
It’s baseball babe….it happens.
If it’s the Phillies, “it happens.” If it’s the Braves, it involves “facepalming,” “chiefs,” and “deal widdits.”
Damn shame about Lee. Who should the Braves go after next?
August 21st, 201010:22 pm
close to home so what is that KSU?
If I’m the Nats GM, I make sure Strasburg only pitches against the PHILLIES the rest of the season Rest him the rest of the time…just sayin’.
It’s pathetic how the ESPN “homers” want to Phillies to win the NL east so bad…I guess the Braves are making a lot of people’s predictions look bad. One didn’t even pick them for the post season? Where does Baseball tonight find these people? I miss the old baseball tonight crew.
August 21st, 201010:23 pm
tiger297, I don’t really hold the expertise to make that decision or judgement, it just seems like you’d want a guy to have managed in some moderately pressure-filled games before doing so in the big show. That just seems to be the way things are done, like Eric Wedge… I think he coached for like five years in the minors before getting promoted… Ryne Sandberg has managed at every level. Are there any examples of guys who didn’t manage long in the minors? I’m sure there are, but I’m not familiar with them.
August 21st, 201010:27 pm
If we thought Tommy had a bad day… Cliff Lee pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs on 10 hits, 4 of them home runs.
Dan…alot of the guys on here talk about pitching coaches and such that never really managed becoming managers but I don’t have the knowledge to name any of them. Also I would expect there is a good bit of pressure managing in Venezula. Personally I want eddie in the bullpen where he can throw my kid baseballs but I don’t expect he will be there much longer either way
August 21st, 201010:29 pm
Yes Dan, lots of them. Two of the top of my head–Bob Brenley, who jumped from the Diamondback’s broadcast booth to the dugout and won the World Series in ‘01 over the Yankees. And Bobby’s mentor, Ralph Houk went from Yankees catcher, to coach to manager

No, close to home would be…Gwinnett College or something…we live in Georgia.
OK, I’m really sad, now…another baby owl died. And it was my favorite one, too–Jody. We got to see her hatch and everything.
August 21st, 201010:33 pm
Nothing wrong with “Chief” son. ‘Tis an honor to be addressed as Chief from teh Mixxo.
August 21st, 201010:37 pm
Brenly was a coach for the Giants for a while, too, before he was a manager. And Houk was the bullpen coach for a few years while playing before becoming a AAA manager for a few years after that.
August 21st, 201010:39 pm
McFann…for some reason I was thinking you were up I75 so figured Kennesaw state was closer…guess I had it mixed up

Yeah, McFann’s gonna get her party on with some of that chocolate milk Heap shills for.
Strasburg has a “strained forearm tendon” according to ESPN…Nats nation breath a collective sigh of relief…
bat…what does that mean??
Brenly didn’t have any managing experience at any level. Another example, Larry Dierker, former Astros pitcher who took the ‘Stros to the playoffs a few times.
Eric Wedge, despite all his minor leauge managing experience, has no success at all with the Indians. Surprised he lasted as long as he did.
August 21st, 201010:49 pm
DOWN ON THE FARM:
GWINNETT is on the losing end tonight against the KNIGHTS 6-8. FREDDIE FREEMAN (.309 BA) has blasted his 17 HR of the year and it plates two runs (80). He goes 1-4, BB, and scores twice. Lead-off CF MATT YOUNG (.298 BA) goes 3-4, BB with two doubles (30), and two runs scored. 2B JOE THURSTON (.259 BA) keeps elevating his game at the plate with a 2-4 evening including his 10th yard-shot, 2 RBI and 2 R scored. LF WILLIE RAMIREZ (.214 BA) is 1-4 this evening, but it’s a maxx-saxx blast (7).
Starter JOSE ORTEGANO (3-9, 6.33 BA) is butchered and hung out to dry. He goes 3.2 IP, 7 H, HR, 6 R/ER, 5 BB, 2 SO. MIKE BROADWAY (6.75 ERA) joins him going 2.1 IP with 3 H, 2 R/ER, 1 BB, 2 SO. SCOTT PROCTOR (7.47 ERA) and STEVE MAREK (1.23 ERA) go an inning each of no-hit, shutout ball.
MISSISSIPPI and J.J. HOOVER (0-1, 7.71 ERA) go down to defeat 2-7. 2B ERIC DUNCAN (.278 BA) has a two run blast (8) as he goes 1-4 with 2 RBI (60), and 2 R scored. 1B ‘45″ GOMEZ (.280 BA) , LF YASSER GOMEZ (.337 BA), CF ANTOAN RICHARDSON (.297 BA), SS DAN NELSON (.206 BA), RF MIKE DANIEL (.262 BA) had a single each, but were scattered throughout the game and ineffective today.
HOOVER goes 4.2 IP, 7 H, HR, 4 R/ER, 5 BB, 7 SO. WALKS and a gopher ball…….not pretty. BENINO PRUNEDA (4.08 ERA) and YELIER CASTRO (8.10 ERA) are also roughed up and take hits to their pride and their ERA’s.
TY HARRIS (1.20 ERA) has a rough night as well giving up a hit and two walks in 0.2 IP. The difference with HARRIS is he allows no runs to score.
McCann promotes some kind of chocolate milk energy drink.
August 21st, 201010:52 pm
I’m depressed. Both the BRAVES and REDSKINS lose. This suxx, nytol!!!!
August 21st, 201010:53 pm
Steve from OH
It’s baseball babe….it happens
Hmm. If only you’d take this attitude when the Braves lose. Quite an enigma, isn’t it?
“During his three seasons in Atlanta, Infante has hit .315 — the sixth-best mark among all Major Leaguers with at least 800 plate appearances since the start of the 2008 season.”
August 21st, 201010:54 pm
“The .368 batting average that Infante has tallied dating back to May 12 has been bettered only by the .384 average posted by Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton, the American League’s leading MVP candidate.”
Dude’s more awesome than I thought.
August 21st, 201010:56 pm
Oh! Kennesaw State…I was thinking Kansas U…or something…sorry…my mind’s not working right right now…
Haha, thanks for the offer, but……
Bat M. Yeah, McFann’s gonna get her party on with some of that chocolate milk Heap shills for.
Haha…yeah, that’s more my speed.
August 21st, 201010:57 pm
Infante is a helluva ballplayer. Not only has he become an excellent hitter, his defense at the all positions he has played is above average. Usually utilitymen (well, he’s not one anymore) are just adequate at their different defensive positions.
I have a cousin who goes to Kennesaw State. He really likes it, I think.
Well, at least the Royals won…
August 21st, 201010:59 pm
Brenly is sort of an example. Dierker is a much better one. Maybe it doesn’t really have any meaning, I just feel more comfortable knowing a guy has managed in tough situations before he’s making serious calls that change games in the post season.
August 21st, 201011:00 pm
Really? Yeah, I’ve heard people like it up there.
August 21st, 201011:01 pm
Well, we don’t get to talk that much given both of our busy schedules, but that seems to be the word I’m hearing. But you’ll get out of any situtation what you make of it. Your education will be as good or as bad as you want it to be.
August 21st, 201011:02 pm
Freeman has had an ALL STAR AAA season. Future looks bright at 1B for the Braves.
August 21st, 201011:03 pm
Too bad about the baby owl.
That’s a good point.
Strasburg is having an MRI tomorrow. He looked like he really hurt something. I think he has bigger problems than the ESPN know-it-alls say.
I have a cousin who goes to Kennesaw State.
That’s where the people who flunk out of my school go. Wait, that sounds meaner than I mean it…
August 21st, 201011:04 pm
Thanks, Bat…you really get attached to these buggers even though they live across the country.
Haha, Roman Gal…
August 21st, 201011:05 pm
No matter what shows up on MR I’d not let him throw another pitch this year. I’d tell him that he’s done good, and that he needs to pull up a seat next to Pudge or the pitching coach for the rest of the season and take notes for the rest of the season.
August 21st, 201011:06 pm
Well, I’m sorry we in the Steve-OH clan ain’t as smart as y’all Geawgans, RG.
My son is a senior at Kennesaw State. He really loves it there.
August 21st, 201011:08 pm
The Fish have won 5 in a row. Hey, Phools, the Fish are coming on!
Brava–what’s he taking up?
August 21st, 201011:09 pm
He’s a Political Science major there. Going to law school after he graduates.
August 21st, 201011:10 pm
Good for him!
(Just tell him not to take up malpractice law! )
Agreed, SteveOh. I hope the kid’s ok.
