Wren is anti-Schuerholz. JS was what the Braves needed at the time, and Wren is what the Braves need now. The farm system looks waaaaay better than it did while JS was running the show.
Robinson Lopez is one of our better pitching prospects. As a starter probably just behind Teheran, Minor, Delgado, Vizcaino, and maybe Beachy now and possibly behind Hoover.

If people complain about who we gave up, I really dont understand why.
Lorick has had a decent year… definitely a fringe bullpen propsect. Would probably not be on anyone’s radar except that he is LH. I’d say he turns out to be a John Foster-type. LH RP that taxis between AAA and ML as needed due to injuries, etc.
I don’t think we will miss any of the three, but the Cubs got more than I thought they would. Braves may not be paying very much of Lee’s salary. Sounds like a good deal both ways.
It’s Lorick, not Locke. We sent Locke to Pittsburgh last year in the LaRoche trade. Wren has an aversion to prospects that can spell a dirty work the letters in their name.

RH Robinson Lopez, 19 year old rated in the organizations top 20. He’s player 2 seasons he has a 6-9 record 3.31 era mostly used as a SP.
RH Tyrelle Harris 24 year old 19th round pick he has 2 seasons in minors he has a 3-2 record with a 2.42 era mostly used as a relief pitcher
LH Jeffrey Lorick. 23 year old 20th round pick he has 2 seasons in the minors he has a 5-7 record with a 2.95 era mostly used as a relief pitcher.
Robinson Lopez was the real prize (price) in all likelihood. Capitol Avenue Club blogger had him rated number 5 Braves prospect even though he was just in GCL, which means he is several years from the show.
Still great trade to make considering all factors
We all owe Troy Glaus a large degree of respect. He carried us for nearly 2 months playing way over his career stats and was a relative bargain for us.
His D at first has not hurt us and in fact his ability to stretch for balls has gotten a lot of outs.
You never have heard him complain, just try and do his job on clearly hurting legs.
Lee is a clear improvement and Troy well and rested is capable of a lot as we saw this year so lets ease up on the Glaus bashing.
The most exciting thing about the Braves 2010 is that all 25 guys are contributing and every day they are all out there scrapping and playing hard. Troy has made more than his share of contributions and will add more on the road to the World Championship.
Ankiel is clearly capable of more offensively but his defense and gun are impressive and McLouth will not go to the post season with this team with his anemic AAA play.

Patrick – The Braves could create a time machine and bring Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner(in their prime) on to the 2010 team and it would be a 4th rate story on ESPN.
Carl don’t be so pesimistic. Think it like this, it gives the Braves a much better team defensively and offensively. And it really gives the Braves a huge shot at the world series.
So how would you feel if you were a young pitcher being traded form the Braves organization (great track record for developing pitchers) to the Cubs (not quite a great track record for developing pitchers)?
That’s the part of the game that must be really hard for young players. It’s only his future that’s at stake.
Get some rest Troy, you deserve and need it. If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t be where we’re at right now. We’ll hold the fort down till you feel good enough to get back.
Troy Glaus to go on DL. Then will report to Gwinnett to play some third base.
I wouldn’t bet on Bradley too much, Glaus can’t cover squat with a shovel, let alone play 3B. Bradley is usually wrong, most likely doing his best DOB shadow imitation, trying to get blog hits.

PTBNL is because of MLB rules. They make a team wait to trade a player that they just signed to a Minor League contract, I believe it is for 6 months. The player is already agreed upon by the teams, just not announced.
I agree with John (5:45). Glaus did everything he could and carried us when we needed it most.
If you would have told me at the beggining of the year that Glaus would lead the team in RBI, 2nd in HR (not counting AGon’s in Toronto) and we’d be in 1st place on August 16th — I would have told you what a genius FW was. Now Glaus needs the rest for the stretch run off the bench so FW went out and got a big bat in Lee. Well done FW!
If Troy takes a DL stint then goes to AAA to get reacquainted with 3B. I’m not sure its going to work. But wow, what an example of a team guy!
Very true about that. Respect!
And you know what else – him and Lee will make this work because they want to play for Cox and a playoff run. Robert, Don and the other nincompoops who trivialize Cox’s effect on players will never get that part right.
First off, I’m glad we have Lee. We need something in the middle of the lineup. The only problem I have is why would they trade players away for a rental when it would have been so easy to bring up Freeman? It’s not like Freeman has anything else to prove in the minors.
I think this is a great trade for the Braves for the obvious reasons – Lee looks like he is hot, has great defensive skills, allows Glaus to rest his knees and possibly come back and play better, and does not interfere with Freeman’s development long term. A word of caution about locker-room rumours against players. Years ago, I had a girlfriend whose two uncles played in the Canadian Football League with Russ Jackson (I know the name means nothing to Americans but he was voted the greatest Canadian football player ever by fans more than forty years after he retired when most of them had never even seen him play – that’s how good he was). Anyway, my girlfriend whose understanding of football was encyclopedic, insisted that Jackson was an arrogant a-hole. Several years later, I applied for my first teaching job during an economic downturn. I got a phone call. It was Russ Jackson. He was now principal of a high school. He apologized that he could not offer me a job because his school was changing from a English-speaking to a French-speaking high school (Canada is bilingual) but he liked my resume and just wanted to encourage me to keep looking for a teaching job. No one else has ever done that before or since. He later went on to coach football, but his team did miserably and he was fired in less than two years. However, he never criticized any players in public, took responsibility for the losses and taking the job without having the experience of being an assistant coach. The moral: don’t believe every rumour you hear about players ( a la Lee and Maddux).
May have spoken too soon about FW. LOL Glaus to work out at 3B in AAA? Really? Why? We need his possible platoon at 1B when his knees feel better and his bat off the bench….
Now I smell some “plate appearances” cut back to save some money on Glaus….

If Troy takes a DL stint then goes to AAA to get reacquainted with 3B. I’m not sure its going to work. But wow, what an example of a team guy
Agreed on that one. Class act! all the way!

Derrick Lee has the kind of demeanor to fit right in with this bunch. Not jinxing.
I don’t know about a “professional hitter,” but I know he’s a professional ball player.

D. Lee one of the few Cubs who actually hit in their playoff losses a couple years back. This might be a great Fall season.

Very true about that. Respect!
And you know what else – him and Lee will make this work because they want to play for Cox and a playoff run. Robert, Don and the other nincompoops who trivialize Cox’s effect on players will never get that part right.

Frank Wren has a history with D Lee. As Assistant General Manager with Marlins 13 years ago, Marlins traded Kevin Brown for Lee

If the season ended today. Braves vs Reds. I would welcome that matchup in October.

May have spoken too soon about FW. LOL Glaus to work out at 3B in AAA? Really? Why? We need his possible platoon at 1B when his knees feel better and his bat off the bench….
Now I smell some “plate appearances” cut back to save some money on Glaus….

I’m excited about Troy giving 3B a shot after two solid weeks of rest.
Imagine the line-up. WOW.
