Nice prep job Chip (Carey). I don’t even work for the company and i knew Ernie Johnson, Jr was going to call the PGA golf tournament…
You knew you were going to be talking about the upcoming TV schedule in the previous break… A simple question to Joe might have been in order…. but that would involve thought.

I’ll forgive Ankiel for now b/c he actually did walk this game and that catch yesterday was all kinds of awesome. And he actually will throw the ball in from CF. I think he’s faster than Nate if he can make it on base. Tommy is pitching a gem!!

Captain, you can call it what you want, but it was still desperate as it happened last minute. Ankiel isn’t that good, but he is not the worst. If he didn’t wait until last minute I am sure he could have gotten something a little bit better.

it’s really kinda sad that here we sit in mid august and melky is our 2nd best option for any OF position (behind heyward).

Line Drive,

The Braves really only gave up Collins. That’s it. Ankiel, Farnsworth > Blanco, Chavez. It wasn’t a long-term solution, but at least it helps somewhat this season.

Okay … Tommy gets through the 7th at 94 pitches. Unless he feels like he is out of gas, I would let him start the 8th inning. It will be the 8th, 9th (probably Geoff Blum pinchhitting), and 1st spots batting.

Captain, oh it is our right to render these trades if we pay to watch them. I will root for the team, because they are my team, but if the player isn’t great I will question the thing. It has nothing to do with being “badly sensed” as you say. You may not question trades, but that is your problem. I will question them if I don’t see anything that was talked about by the management. He said he would get a power bat, we got Ankiel, where is the power?

UKUGA

I think Infante is our 2nd best outfield option. The problem is that Ankiel, Diaz, Cabrera, and (McLouth) can’t play the infield.

Hard to believe as deep as we are with minor league pitching that we don’t have one stud CF in the farm. Ankiel, Nate, etc just don’t cut it ..our best option is probably Melky in CF and his D is shaky.

What Cox really means is: Glaus will be on the playoff roster assuming they get that far.. And it doesn’t matter if he needs crutches to play the field.

Not so. Melky Cabrera, when playing CF this season, in 139 PA, iis .303/.377/.426/.803. Granted, that is a small sample size, and isn’t reflective of his career numbers. But for the Braves, he hits significantly better, and gets on base considerably more, when playing CF.

Cabrera is not a shaky defensive player. All players make mistakes over a longer sample size. He gets very good jumps and has a decent arm.

Captain Clarence Oveur

August 11th, 2010
4:09 pm

Trey,

No one is telling you not to question moves. I just didn’t see it as desperate. And I would love to read where Frank Wren declared he’d get a power bat. Name the options that were out there. Outside of Ryan Ludwick, who no one knew was available, you’d be hard-pressed to find an “impact bat,” which you guys so often refer to, that wouldn’t come at a steep price. That’s my point, and why I felt the Ankiel trade was worth it for the pieces surrendered.

Plan for Proper Viewing of the Baseball Season:

Divide the 162 games up into 16-game NFL-style segments (add the last two to the final segment).

Every four games should be viewed as a quarter of a game.

If you complain about one baseball game, you are complaining about the equivalent of three minutes and forty-five seconds of NFL game time.

Bourgeois should have bunted to lead off the inning. He has no discernible hitting talent, but he does have 7 SB in 30 games. If he bunts, that allows him to try to steal.

Problem with Farnsy is he has no late life on his FB. He brings heat, but the batter can see the ball out of his hand and he lays it out over the plate. He’ll miss some bats, due to sheer velocity, but good hitters will time the thing and it’s BP.
