I find it mildly humorous that there are two people named Headly Lamar here that are fighting with each other.
——
Kind of like Blazing Saddles meets Spartacus: I’m Headly. No, I’m Headly.
When I saw the lineup today, I was hoping people would get a chance to see that Tommy hasn’t really been giving the C a chance to throw out baserunners. I think he’s actually got McCann trying to overthrow, which has led to some errors lately. Mac’s just gotta say I’ll do my best and, if I don’t get them, I don’t get them, though. A stolen base is not good. The throw going into the OF or foul territory (at 3B) and letting the runner get an extra base is really bad.
Hinske homers on his birthday, Heyward homers on his, Cabrera robs a possible home run on his. Maybe if everyday was a birthday for the Braves, something spectacular would happen every day.
Spare me the thinly veiled ethnocentrism, son. Dominicans express themselves better than uptight middle americans. It’s called joy. Don’t you ever lose it, Melkman.
I’ll say this for the Reds. If you’re gonna talk smack, you better back it up. A three-game sweep at home against your main competition in the division at this time of the year is really bad.
do you know if there is anything wrong with glaus other than he’s knees? And i know the braves are thin right now, but do you think when prado comes back a DL stint would help glaus for the stretch run at all (the three days off seemed to help a bit)?
The one little problem I have with Don Sutton is that he sometimes goes into his long stories and never mentions the score. Painful when you just want the score in a hurry.
Innocent, I hope not, but I do have a weird feeling that he will still end up in the Braves organization. He is too whiney for our organization though, he thinks he is too good for the minors.
Ankiel another desperate attempt at a trade. At first I thought it would be good to have Farnsworth and Ankiel, but they have been letting us down a lot. They do come through every now and then, but not too often. Oh well, no more Chavez!
Sooo … once again, the Braves head to the late innings with a small lead which raises the question “when should Bobby pull his starter?” I’m happy sticking with Tommy. I’m sure if he gives up a run this inning there will be several bloggers complaining about Bobby not pulling him at the start of the 7th.
For all the D-Lowe bashers we could have got Burnett who most of you wanted, he would have cost us even more than Lowe and been a year longer contract…Lowe has 141 innings, 11 wins, 1.40 whip and 4.4 ERA AJ has 133 innings 9 wins, 1.47 whip and 4.87 ERA…..Lackey by the way for 3.5 mill more than Lowe is at 146 innings, 10 wins, 1.54 whip and 4.6 ERA….one more Peavy for same salary on DL with 101 iP 7 wins, 1.23 whip and 4.6 ERA………Lowe answers the bell and although he doesn’t go deep enough sometimes still gives you chances to win almost every night
Bobby Cox on Glaus: “We gave him three games off, and ever since then he’s had a hit in every game and two hits last night. He’s hit the ball awfully hard. With guys who are streaky, they’re streaky. They’re going to have some down times and some up times, and you ride through it. We really need a right-handed hitter and he is that guy.”
How is trading away next to nothing for two contributing pieces another desperate trade? Ankiel has struggled, but he’s better than the alternatives. Farnsworth, while bad recently, adds depth to an already deep bulllpen. It wasn’t desperate, but rather a stop-gap trade.
Carlos Lee is having an awful year at the plate, isn’t he? He’s OPSing under .700. Ouch. I know BABiP isn’t always a good barometer for hitters, but I’d have to say that a .246 BABiP for a hitter is unbelievably bad.
A lot of managers are not inclined to try to bunt a slow runner at second over to third. It takes a near perfect bunt if the guy on second can’t run at all.
