Braves request outright waivers on Chris Resop

The Braves have requested outright waivers on pitcher Chris Resop and sent him to Triple-A Gwinnett, Resop’s agent B.B. Abbott confirmed.

Resop made four appearances during a rehabilitation assignment in his recovery from a strained oblique muscle, the last of which came Sunday afternoon when he gave up four runs in 3 2/3 innings for Gwinnett. If he clears waivers, Resop can either accept the assignment or declare free agency.

Resop gave up five runs in two relief innings in his only major league appearance with the Braves this year on June 15 against Tampa after he strained his oblique warming up.

Hey, Carroll, I was wondering if you knew anything new regarding Jordan Schafer. I just looked up his stats on m-braves.com and saw he hadn’t been playing recently. Is his wrist acting up again?

Any significance regarding an upcoming move here?

Combined no hitter tonight for Teheran and Tyrell Harris at Miss. 5 2/3 inn for Teheran and 3 1/3 for Harris, the former Tenn Vol. Brandon Beachy goes 6 and wins at Gwinnett. Save for Kimbrel.

Wasn’t it Resop who had a contract that stated he had to be on the MLB club’s roster after July 1 or they release or trade him? If he is that guy I’d like to hear some comments on the situation from DOB if he cares to comment. I seem to remember Resop was having a good minor league year this year.

I got the feeling this was a bit of a ‘phantom’ injury like when KK was ‘disabled’ last year when he was first found to be entirely unsuitable to MLB competition. I’ve seen the Braves and other MLB teams put players on the disabled list just to buy time while they ponder what moves to make, and that seemed to be what was going on here as wells.

Good thing is that they can now add another player to the 40 man roster before September. Freeman maybe???

What are we going to do with KK? He is just taking up a roster spot, doing nothing. Either use him or dump him.

Reality 4, the REALITY is you still have to pay him for the rest of this year and next if you “dump him”. You got $8 million around to pay him to walk away? He has ZERO trade value, so that dump option is unavailable.

Yeah, what’s up with KK ? I thought they shut him down for the trade deadline. No takers? Man we can’t even give him away.

They can’t even give away those KK jersey shirts at Coolray Field. I swear that rack hasn’t changed from last year!

DLOWE and KAWACRUMMY will be put on waivers but there will be no takers with both of them being 5th starters at best with huge salaries. They both are laughing straight to the BANK.

Frank Wren really screwed up on these 2 signings. Troy Glaus was good due to only 1.75 million on a one year contract.

Braves do not have the resources financially to let KCRUMMY and DLOWE go. Detroit a few years ago let Gary Sheffield go with 13 MILLION left on his last year.

Braves unfortunately are working with a 85 million payroll with 6 players taking up 68 % of the payroll. CJONES, KCRUMMY, DLOWE, HUDSON, WAGNER, McCANN.

Only HUDSON, WAGNER and BMAC are worth the money.

The thing with saying we cant release KK because we still have to pay him that bothers me, is we have to pay him either way. As is, we are paying him AND losing a roster spot. Basically its 24 v 25 each night. If you know you are NEVER going to let him in a game, quit hurting the team, admit the mistake, and cut him. Yes, the money is gone, but it was gone either way. Use his spot on someone who can help the team. Marek?

If Wren thinks KK cannot help again he can trade him and pay most of his salary or move him to Gwinnett, so there are options, unless his contract states otherwise.

KK cannot be sent to the minors…it’s in his contract as mention several weeks ago.
