I didn’t say you were incorrect J. I expected it to be Venters/Dunn to start the inning. Bobby has never handled a bullpen well. This is just another example.
Melky is a Douchee, laughing at that horse sh*t outfield play
Dan Kolb's Mom
unreal. we suck.
The Abs Man
Even Sutton on radio said JJ not the same on mound after hit by pitch…
July 31st, 20106:20 pm
Escobar makes that throw.
July 31st, 20106:21 pm
Big “L”…we made a trade but unfortunately Bobby Cox wasn’t included in them. He’s the weakness. Thanks Booby for letting it get away. DAMN IT!
Almost the same kinda meltdown the Reds had last night. Shouldn’t happen at this level. depressing
Albie Lopez's Sister
July 31st, 20106:22 pm
I can’t believe Cox was warming up Venters for the fifth day in a row. Can we give this guy a rest now that we’re losing by three, for f**k’s sake?
July 31st, 20106:23 pm
No Cox should know that his pitcher got hit and was angry to begin with and know its a 1 run lead and had someone warming up
July 31st, 20106:24 pm
i need a beer damn it
July 31st, 20106:25 pm
How many time does Chipper pop out on pitches right down the middle his swing is nothing but an uppercut
July 31st, 20106:28 pm
Play Brooks Conrad tomorrow for Chipper
Glaus will strike out
July 31st, 20106:29 pm
July 31st, 20106:31 pm
Probably ground into a DP. No legs no power
We hear so much about how awesome our bullpen is, but not using them in key situations has now cost us another game. I dont get it. I mean, Jurrjens doesnt suck, its not like he is Lowe, but we have a ground ball specialist and a double play would have ended the threat. wtf.
July 31st, 20106:32 pm
Maybe they’ll walk him. . . please..
For all you Braves fans (and I wonder how many due to the constant empty seats at Turner Field) who persecuted McLouth, I’m sure you are happy with his demotion. But what about MEEKly Cabrera? He is a frickin joke! He can’t hit and I just witnessed a blooper on national TV where the ignoramus threw a ball towards right field after SLOWLY tracking it down. And, he and Fat Boy Hinske were seen laughing as if it were a joke!!! I am really disappointed in Hinske but MEEKLY is a perpetual liability. Please Yankees get him back….you get anybody else you want! Wake up Braves fans!! MEEKLY is a joke!!!!!! And, he is slower a than steam rising on s—!!!!! How can knowledgeable fans defend him? Wake up!!!!!!! Of course, as witnessed by empty seats, probably not many Atlantans really care!!!!! By the way, I had to practically give my tix away for next Tuesday vs. the Mets….not exactly a “hot” ticket! UGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!
July 31st, 20106:33 pm
at least it’s not a DP . . .sigh
July 31st, 20106:35 pm
REST Glaus tomorrow, Take Melky out tomorrow and No Chipper please
July 31st, 20106:36 pm
Stylin: You are so right after fat pig Melky…He sucks,,,
Glaus now 4-for-30 on road trip…..but BrainDead Bobby has him in lineup for Sunday…
July 31st, 20106:37 pm
The talent equation should be: Demote Melk-Dud to Weight Watchers…
I wish we had sent Lowe to KC instead of Collins
July 31st, 20106:40 pm
With Prado hurt and if Ankiel is available we can’t do all that. If Eric plays first as he should and Ankiel plays center. The infield can be Omar, Alex Brooks Melky has to play left. if Brooks plays second Chipper plays third then Omar can play left.
July 31st, 20106:41 pm
oops sorry forgot Matty How could I do that
didnt realize Ankiel was just re-activated a week ago. Hope he is 100%
July 31st, 20106:43 pm
I wish Diaz could play more positions
July 31st, 20106:45 pm
1. Infante 2B
2. Heyward RF
3. Conrad 3B
4. McCann C
5. Henske 1B
6. Ankiel CF
7. Diaz LF
8. Gonzalaz SS
9. Hanson P
Thats the line-up I would use
July 31st, 20106:46 pm
for what it’s worth in the last 7 days Ankiel is 9 for 20 with a homer a double and 4 RBI
I never saw Escobar laughing about an error that lead to the other team taking the lead, yet he was supposed to be the bad guy.
Merlin we can do that…… Quit doubting me man…… I got this
I like that lineup. But no way they play Brooks ahead of Chip. I like Diaz/Ankiel back-to-back for some decent speed in the tail end of the lineup
July 31st, 20106:48 pm
Dunn walks a ton of guys. Dont know if this guy is ready for the big-time yet
Chipper is uppercutting his swing too much and is only popping out
July 31st, 20106:52 pm
Conrad can’t hit a breaking ball. Volquez has a good one. Matty 3rd instead maybe
my line-up gives us the best chance to win cause we got 3 players that are not pulling their weight. Glaus is Hurt, Chipper is uppercutting everything, and Melky is a joke and another instant out
July 31st, 20106:53 pm
ok maybe Diaz at 3 but keep the starting 9 players the same
July 31st, 20106:57 pm
Last seven days Melky is 6 for 16 (375) with 2 doubles. Not all that bad a BA
Don’t disagree with the lineup aside from Brooks spot
July 31st, 20106:59 pm
we havent scored since the 1st, and both those runs came courtesy of an error. pretty sad.
Bob Wickman's Gross Uncle
July 31st, 20107:00 pm
Jurrjens, Medlen, Prado — all hurting, thanks to the Reds. If another batter gets hit tomorrow, there’s probably gonna be a mound charge.
July 31st, 20107:03 pm
And now J-Hey’s touching his hip like he’s just pulled something. Great.
July 31st, 20107:04 pm
Do not — do not — take a called third strike in the ninth when you’re trailing. Anybody who does needs to be fined for the team kangaroo court. If it’s close, hack, try to foul it off, anything. But do not take a called third strike in the ninth.
July 31st, 20107:05 pm
and that as they say is that. too many wasted chances early, left JJ in too long. Bad day all around and if Jason is hurt it’s worse
and black jesus down looking. how can you not swing at that?
July 31st, 20107:09 pm
We could have won this game but Cox stuck with his pitcher too long and Melky played like a jackass
Ya know almost anyone else on the team can be scolded for that. I can’t see the game because Fox thinks we Texans want to see Boston. But Jason has made more right decisions that anyone but Prado this year. Give him a break.
July 31st, 20108:58 pm
Look anyone who watched the Friday night game in Cinn KNEW could SEE CLEARLY Glaus was pooped…and swung bat like it was sledge hammer and Melk-Dud needs a goddamn compass in the outfield along with a diet.
ANYONE—But NO—Bobby Cox plays ‘em both in lineup—and odds-on to play ‘em again Sunday.
If you don’t think this senile ol’ man could screw up a wet dream, I feel sorry for you.
July 31st, 20109:24 pm
Great trade FW, Farnsworth is an upgrade over Saito for the 8th inning role, & Blanco is not a full time OF, Chavez was instant offense for the other team & needed to go. Play Hinske part time at 1st, Infante for Prado until he gets back, & lets see what Ankiel can do. This is a playoff team unless they go into a hitting funk, Oswalt doesnt scare anybody the Bravos own him, Go Bravos chop chop
August 1st, 201012:03 am
i hear garret “flash” anderson would like to return to the braves as a proffesional lead off man and aded spped t hreat who knows how to play the game and head first slides wont be an issue with loaf it would be more like a head first fall lol
August 1st, 201012:24 am
damn i wish frank had traded the kid closer in gwunnet and the number 1 draft choice ss we sighned in june to texas for somone we had no chance to sigfhn now that would have fallowed a proven success patern huh ? lol
Texas Braves Fan
August 1st, 20109:25 am
Isnt that BS?!?!?!?! We NEVER get the Braves Fox games in Texas! Always get the Spankees or Sox, the 2 teams that take the fun out of baseball! When your payroll is more than entire divisions, MLB has a problem! Atlanta could be playing Texas or Houston and we would get the Yanks vs Orioles here!
August 1st, 201011:05 am
Just in case, we should have let go of 3 of our pitching prospects to the Astros in exchange for Oswalt and have the Astros pay 25% of his salary, then the Phillies wouldn’t have a freakin chance in gettin da title!
August 1st, 201011:07 am
I have doubts about the trade Chaves, okay but Blanco come on he was pretty good. This relief pitcher should strengthen our bullpen when it comes to the 7th inning and extra innings. Just hope the Center Fielder can hit!!!!!
August 1st, 20101:31 pm
Cox is amazing in his consistancy to protect Chipper. Infante has 3 hits in leadoff spot yesterday. Today Chipper is sitting so who does he put in leadoff spot? Conrad, who is replacing Chipper at 3rd base. Who does he put in 3 spot against right handed pitcher? Infante. The most obvious choice to put in the 3 spot with Chipper out would be Heyward, but cox knows if Heyward has a good day hitting and driving in runs, as he did for about 3 games when Chipper was out, then pressure would be on to flip flop them when Chipper returns. If Conrad would bat 3rd and hit and drive in runs then the pressure would be on to let him play 3rd more in place of Chipper or bat 3rd more when he was subbing for Prado. so we get this disjunctive lineup. Cox will never learn that its the team chances of winning that is paramount in choice of lineup, not how not to hurt Chipper’s feelings.
August 1st, 20103:27 pm
Anybody know what Chipper’s batting average is when pitch hitting. I suspect it is horrific. Cox is an idiot
August 1st, 20103:56 pm
please tell me what a hitting coach does, i know he can’t hit for them, is he just a figure head or does he coach, what a bunch poor hitters what ever the reason they need help, thank mr gm for for keeping the current coach and the wonderful talent you have put on the field, hope it works out for the team, but i have serious doubts about your ability to be a general mgr,——–by the way i hope i’am wrong as i am a braves fan
August 1st, 201011:50 pm
there is absolutely no reason for this team to not have chipper hitting 2nd and heyward hitting 3rd. none. its completely inexcusable for this team – that doesn’t have much power – to not be making the most efficient use of what little power they have. chipper hits singles. thats it. he does a good job of getting on base but it is no secret that he doesn’t have much power anymore. its so painfully obvious that its driving me insane.
August 1st, 201011:55 pm
is there any we could form a “bat chipper 2nd” petition on the ajc?? not that i seriously think it would do any good, but its worth a shot.
August 2nd, 201012:02 am
Huge mistake to trade Escobar. It definitely will go down as one of the worst trades in Atlanta’s history. Team was winning and then they trade Escobar…and now everything is falling apart. There is no life to this team. It had to have been Chipper and Bobby Cox that made the trade happen. Prado (I believe, through past interviews) was Escobar’s closest teammate…I bet some things will be said after the season is over. I just don’t believe the idea that “everyone” hated Escobar in the clubhouse…probably just Chipper.

is freeman coming to atlanta tonight.
August 2nd, 20107:21 am
hire a hitting coach and everything will be better, at least no worse
August 2nd, 20107:34 am
e-mail all comments to wren and cox, maybe just maybe they will learn something
August 2nd, 201011:32 am
He is tough but he needs to let that thing heal. He’ll be altering his swing to compensate for the pain in his follow through. Put him on the DL and bring up Hernandez. Save Prado for the last 6 weeks of the season. If they don’t he’ll be fighting it the rest of the season. If it was his left little finger, it would be different.
August 2nd, 201011:39 am
I was watching yesterdays game on MLB extra innings. The Cinncinnati crew was commenting on the same thing. They noticed how much slower his swing (and everything else) is this year. You’d think he would have leaned something from Julio Franco as far as staying playing shape is concerned. But Julio was a freak of nature but not without a lot effort.
You can see Chipper just dragging the bat through the hitting zone. I guess he’s too macho to use a lighter bat. He should be down to a 32 or even a 30 ounce by now.
…just my opinion.
August 2nd, 201011:50 am
I think he can get it going again but he needs to be rested MUCH more. It’s almost a bad as watching Garret Anderson last year. Maybe they should platoon Hinske and him for a while. Whatever, he played himself into and out of a big contract for next year. Hopefuly he can play himself back into a good one.
August 2nd, 201012:12 pm
if someone is going to the game tonight will they please make a sign saying call up freeman?
August 2nd, 201012:26 pm
August 2nd, 201012:29 pm
We can get Mike Lowell cheap – perfect backup & spot starter to Chipper & Glaus – proven winner, great clubhouse guy and can still play – The Red Sox will undload this guy for next to nothing
August 2nd, 201012:31 pm
Braves need to claim Vernon Wells and Marcus Thames off of waivers.
August 2nd, 201012:42 pm
They should put Prado on the DL regardless. Because even if he is “able” to play, he’s going to have a sore finger/hand and I doubt he can maintain his high level of hitting with that soreness. What if he goes into a Heyward-like slump because of a bad finger? I think sitting Prado for the full 15 days is the wise thing to do, so when he does resume hitting he’ll be completely healthy and there won’t be any residual affect on his ability to hit.
August 2nd, 20101:27 pm
I agree Chopper. Sit Prado for two weeks. Braves need him to be as close to 100% as possible for the stretch run in September. Losing him will hurt the offense for sure. Hopefully, someone will step up and Bobby realizes Diaz needs to play more. I and few others on the blogs would like to see Freeman as his replacement on the roster. It will not happen until September, if at all.
August 2nd, 20101:37 pm
Well with our main offensive weapon out I guess the Braves will make alot of pitchers look good in the next week or so
August 2nd, 20101:43 pm
Watching gritty at-bat Matt Diaz showed in 9th inning yesterday was all you need to know why he has to play daily.
Stop the stupid label (making him another Ryan Klesko-type) he can ONLY HIT vs. LHP.
Beyond even Bobby Cox dumb.
Diaz can be an offensive dynamo…sure he is better vs. LHP…but he hustles every single time.
Contrast Diaz with goof-around Melky, who more often than not, loafs around and gives away at-bats. Melky is a loser. A total underachiever. A rat who gives you zero.

Stick him on the DL and forget about him. He didn’t learn anything from the first time he injured a hand sliding head first into a base. He was out for a couple of months that time. These guys are dumb. The right fielder, whatever his name is, did the same thing and has been hitting singles ever since.
August 2nd, 20102:42 pm
That same thumb injury made me stop sliding head first and nobody had to tell me
August 2nd, 20102:43 pm
Can we send Bobby Cox to the DL? The mentally DL that is.
August 2nd, 20103:30 pm
was reading some of the comments about Chipper batting 2nd instead of 3rd. Some of your argument is valid but keep in mind that Heyward can score on a chipper single whereas Chipper cannot score on a heyward single. He just doesn’t have the legs….probably why he is lacking in power… Pretty weak lineup in there tonight…hopefully they will bang out a few wins on the lowly mets….hopefully!
August 2nd, 20104:45 pm
Here’s an interesting question….Why hasn’t anyone taken a chance on Jermaine Dye this year? W are desperate….why not us take the chance with this freefall collapse occuring. Proven winner and clutch in tough situations

Youre an idiot….enough said. Singles….yeah i guess you forgot the 3-6 performance where all 3 hits were…hmm…doubles…..or the fact that hes had a hit in every game back from the DL except for 2….and id much rather him his singles and doubles and get on base…with a chance to be driven in…rather than homer everytime with noone on base…hes a team baseball player not a selfish player…..
and Prado…..wouldnt have scored if not diving head first…but you dont look at that…youre probably some fat unathletic guy, who can do nothing but shoot criticism from your LA Z BOY……get a life and stop being so negative.
