I really don’t think Farnsworth wants to pitch for the Braves, but I hope he doesn’t intentionally give up games for the Braves.
Noleeeee, who are you guys talking about?
August 1st, 20101:07 am
Bullpen, and starters 4 and 5 will be the death of the pholding phils.
what makes you say that Trey?
August 1st, 20101:08 am
“Minor is minor.”
@Trey, What did Farnsworth say ?!
haggard (just in case I’m not here when you get back)
First off, don’t worry too much about me, I still have that memory. I was pissed about it for awhile because I came so close to capturing it. They just put me on so fast I didn’t have time to check everything out.
Man, that’s quite a story. I hope DOB gets to see it. IMO, the previous best blog story was about a great LAdy and a so-so guy getting together, because of the MIB DOB blog.
I think saving lives is now number one!
August 1st, 20101:09 am
Trey–OK, maybe so. But I think there were a few chuckles right away in the dugout that day when Brooks Conrad couldn’t find that baseball that found its way inside his uniform shirt.
August 1st, 20101:10 am
I was talking about Gonzalez. GV seems to have thrown Minor into the pot too
August 1st, 20101:11 am
I think their bullpen (esp. Lidge) will be the death of the Phils. Love our bullpen!
Noleee, sorry what makes me say what?
August 1st, 20101:13 am
Dumbfound, he didn’t say anything but folks say he turned us down and he does not look too happy in a Braves uniform. I saw his picture on atlantabraves.com on the 40 man roster.
yup TOM you got it right. did you have to debate yourself about?
No, nolie. That’s one of the benefits of the silent treatment.
Now don’t tell me THAT (Burma-Shave) was all from memory.
August 1st, 20101:14 am
When EOF returns, I will love our bullpen even more. Any word on a timetable for his return, DOB?
August 1st, 20101:16 am
Minor is minor GV
have you never noticed after all this time that I often say controversial things to stir the pot?
If you read any of my longer posts about the guy you know that I was a bit disappointed about the pick cause some others had higher upsides, but that I think that he will get to the show fairly quickly and probably be around a #3 starter.
my one liners are facetious.
Ewwww! Gonzalez. I just dont see what it is that enticed us to trade for him. I know this is a what have you done lately thing, but has he done anything since being with the braves? Not to my recollection. His career numbers arent good either.
Nolie, I meant that I hope that if he does hate being back on our team he won’t just say “f” it” and lose them.
August 1st, 20101:18 am
I meant what makes you think he would hate being on the team? That is not a usual reaction from most players
I am sure he won’t but I would hate to see him do that.
nah I cheated some Tom
August 1st, 20101:19 am
Oh, I don’t know if he does, but I have read comments from folks saying stuff that sounds like he doesn’t like being on the Braves and he honestly doesn’t look to happy in his Braves photo.
August 1st, 20101:21 am
Yeah, I think a guy in the final year of his contract before free agency is going to intentionally pitch poorly so team he got traded to will lose, because he made a comment five years ago after leaving said team. Yeah, that makes sense. Cost yourselves millions of dollars potentially in a free-agent contract so you can, well, what exactly? Get even?
This isn’t grade school (I’d say this isn’t high school, but such ridiculousness belongs with a much younger age group).
August 1st, 20101:23 am
You guys puzzle me. Still obsessing on Gonzo v. Escobrat. AGonz is a #7 hitter who was brought over for his veteran steadiness.
We should be torching this blog over Cox’s stupidity in getting Venters up in the bullpen today.
We should especially be going to the castle with our pitchforks and torches trying to ride Glaus out of town. The #4 spot is crtitical, and worthy of all our blogging energies.
August 1st, 20101:24 am
David O’Brian, the sarcasm isn’t necessary, as it was just a statement. In fact, I am getting sick of your attitude.
just wondered. I don’t remember any real difficulty other than he did not re-sign with us. but it was obvious that the Yanks wanted him and would offer more.
.I would think he would prefer to be on a team with a chance rather than in KC
I could see Farns doing something like this:
August 1st, 20101:26 am
I musta missed the comment DOB, or God forbid I am having a senior moment about Farnsie
Ahem, Tom -
I’m afraid if I remove them, Sopheee might hurt me, OK?
Sopheeeee, now do you see why I was telling you that what I said wasn’t important?
Marteeen did something great, as he usually does for the Braves, and I told you that I’m going to keep the e’s for the remainder of the season. I’m a man of my word. Screw VJ!
“Dumbfound, he didn’t say anything but folks say he turned us down and he does not look too happy in a Braves uniform. I saw his picture on atlantabraves.com on the 40 man roster.” Trey
Wow. Simply. WOW!
First of all, he turned the Braves down (6 years ago) to go play for the Yankees. Some questioned his “heart” that he’d rather be a set up man for the Stanks, than the closer for the Braves. Whatever. To each his own, right?
As for the photo? Dude. Do you REALLY think he showed up from KC and quickly drove down to the Ted to have the Braves PR people shoot a photo of him, and then THAT is the facial expression he would make?
It’s called photoshop dude. The Braves tok the photo from the Royals and converted the Royals cap into a Braves one. You know…. just like ESPN does everytime there is a trade and two minutes later they have a photo of them in the new cap?
Like I said….. wow.
nolie I don’t think he will, but people are so unpredictable that it’s not even funny. Just typing my thoughts out.
August 1st, 20101:27 am
sorry, not a manager ripper MBBF, no matter who it is
August 1st, 20101:28 am
What did Farnsworth say exactly?
N8 don’t even bother talking to me. You are just as rude as Nick.
Oh, I don’t know if he does, but I have read comments from folks saying stuff that sounds like he doesn’t like being on the Braves and he honestly doesn’t look to happy in his Braves photo. — Trey
Dude, that’s a photoshopped picture. He didn’t pose for a new picture in a Braves cap today. To get a photo up right away, before players join their new teams, websites or other media outlets will often just take a previous photo and photoshop the new team’s cap to replace the one he was actually wearing when the photo was taken.
The photo you’re talking about was taken during spring training with Farnsworth in a Royals cap.
Yeah, I hope Farnsworth is not that childish !
NBD Trey, I was just wondering
N8: ROTFLMAO – let it go…
August 1st, 20101:29 am
Good column by Howard Bryant over on ESPN.com about the state of baseball:
Don’t know if anybody else read it, but I thought it was enlightening.
big ol’ meanie N8
Marteeeen and I are proud of you, Tom. VeeeeeJ should be ashamed of himself.
When someone can’t even spell the blogmaster’s name correctly, they lose credibility! <—(punctuation)
August 1st, 20101:30 am
DOB – Dude, so I’ve heard. First, do not address me as Dude, O’Brien. It is Trey. Second as a columnist you need to be more professional.
VJ has the big head since he slicked poor ol’ Tommeeee outta CAB.
August 1st, 20101:31 am
Tommee O’Hawkeee, so true. I lost credibility, but that’s quite alright.
noleeee: not even when Grady Little left Pedro Martinez to rot against the Yankees in that infamous playoff meltdown that cost Little his job?
Oh, this should be entertaining.
Trey, I’m not really talking to you. Just mocking you on a blog.
David O’Brian, the sarcasm isn’t necessary, as it was just a statement. In fact, I am getting sick of your attitude.– Trey
I’ll try to pass that along to this O’Brian fella. By the way, I (O’Brien) am not a columnist.
Yeah Nolie, but I am sure he will do fine with us.
Trey, do us all a favor and “type your thoughts out” on your own blog..I demand the 15 seconds of my wasted time back reading your inane comments.
August 1st, 20101:32 am
not really, though I agree he made a bit of a booboo
August 1st, 20101:33 am
@Sopheeeee, I know my spelling is something to be desired ! Sorry ! You know to whom I was speaking of.
“Do you think anyone wants a round house kick to the face while im wearing these bad boys?”
“Forget about it”
I guess Jim has already left
August 1st, 20101:34 am
Tim, then don’t read my inane comments.
Girl fight tonight in here!!! The windmill slaps are about to come out!
August 1st, 20101:35 am
What do you mean Dumbfound? I don’t recall saying anything to you about spelling.
which bad boys is that Newnan, your pink bunny slippers?
August 1st, 20101:36 am
That was funny.
BravesinNewnan, windmill slaps and cat claws fo sho.
August 1st, 20101:37 am
nolie, in your honest opinion how do you think Ankiel will fare in Atlanta?
August 1st, 20101:38 am
“Girl fight tonight in here!!!”
Girl fight? Nope. I’m deciding whether to bring the big guns out. Because if I’m going to get called “mean”, then I might as well be mean.
But I think I’ll pass. Good day to be a Braves fan. A couple of solid, but not spectacular moves that should help. Freeman getting called up would polish off a good day!
Any time that Brad Lidge implodes is a good day. Braves guaranteed to head home 2.5 games up. Phillies 0-2 since trading for Oswalt. I love it.
Gonna watch Spies Like Us with my boys. Enjoy the cat fight kids.
@Sopheeee, You are right ! I sorry. Went back to read my typing and I just misunderstood you. Please forgive me. I will read more carefully next time.
August 1st, 2010
which bad boys is that Newnan, your pink bunny slippers?
Nah, just a quote from Rex Kwan Do in Napolean Dynamite.
I’m sorry ! You see ! LMAO
August 1st, 20101:39 am
wow, just got home and logged on! i missed everything today! what seems to be the general view of the trade? good, bad,or ugly?
August 1st, 20101:40 am
DOB, or anyone can jump in:
1) Is the Braves game on TBS tomorrow?
2) Any timetable for EOF’s return to the bullpen?
Thank you kindly!
August 1st, 20101:41 am
No worries, Dumbfound.
MiaBchBravesFan, I believe it is on FSS.
shinburger, it looks as most people overall say its a good trade for the simple fact we didnt give up a lot.
August 1st, 20101:42 am
Playoffs, yeah the Brooks Conrad blooper was hilarious.
shinburger, I am heading off to bed, but my sense is that it is pretty much a good trade. The only person given up that is receiving any lament is our double-A acquisition from Toronto–LH relief pitcher Tim Collins. Otherwise, Blanco and Chavez no one is crying over. Ankiel is not the big power for which people were hoping, and yet no one wanted to give up a top prospect. Farnsworth will certainly relieve Moylan and Venters in relief.
August 1st, 20101:45 am
nolie, yeah Jim already left. He and cab leave in tandem. In Atlanta, Jim & his chihuahua used to stay up until 1:00, 2:00 am. Now, in LA with cabravesfan, he’s gone before 10:00.
I’m still trying to figure out the reason behind this. When I come up with a theory, I’ll share.
He’ll probably be better than what we had if he can stay healthy which is often an issue with him. What he does will depend a lot on how he is used. I kinda think they will platoon him since his splits are so poor, and if so he will likely be a help. actually his career numbers are not too far off Nate’s though his OPS+ is not quite as good. His CF runs saved numbers are about 0, so he is nothing special as a defensive CFer, but then neither are any of the others we have.
August 1st, 20101:46 am
shinburger, I believe the trade will be alright, Ankiel not much of a power hitter as Moe Berg said, but have a good arm in the pen like Farnsworth is definitely a step up from Chavez. I believe it is a good trade overall and I believe it will help.
August 1st, 20101:47 am
Tommeee, you had to catch my typo of David O’Brien’s name I didn’t even know I misspelled it, haha.
August 1st, 20101:48 am
Finally saw Inception tonight. Interesting concept – makes you think for sure.
I think it will likely help some, but it is disappointing to many of those who believed the Braves would make a substantial addition.
August 1st, 20101:50 am
MiaBchBravesFan: Game’s on Fox Sports South tomorrow. Braves/Cox haven’t said on O’Flaherty, but I’d guess in a week or less.
August 1st, 20101:51 am
noleeeee–Surely, you were not expecting so giant move at this point? They certainly seemed to be more in tweaking mode than moving in a new, enormous piece.
shinburger, word for word what Moe just said at 1:42. (I sometimes have Moe Berg pop out for me, on the blog. He usually gets it right. And he spells perfectly!)
August 1st, 20101:52 am
nolie, you’re right, but I am glad we got someone. It’s better than what we did have. I think this trade we did get the better of the deal than when we got A Gon, but it is nice to see Yunel play a lot better now.
August 1st, 20101:53 am
Tommeee O’Hawkeee–Hope you are well. I appreciate the commendation, and now, I am really heading off to bed. Adieu.
no Moe I didn’t, in fact I said I would not be surprised if no move was made yet. But a whole passel of peeps seemed the believe that they would.
August 1st, 20101:54 am
u are reaching with your comments on Kyle F. and his “attitude”.
when did you become so “mean” ?
I agree, solid moves, nothing spectacular. Would have liked to get a Ryan Ludwick before a Rick Ankiel but what are you gonna do. Like Wren said, at least he didn’t give up any young pitching (or starting pitching, should clarify) which seems to be the hot commodity now with the “steriod era” coming to an end.
In all reality, given how poorly the Braves played in FLA and DC…if they win today they can at least salvage this road trip.
At least the Nats are helping out by beating the Phillies. Phillies pen is in shambles. I have no idea how they’re going to hold up down the stretch…but maybe that’s what is going to push the Braves over the top to the NL East title.
Whoa. You guys are in the future. Cool.
Never been happier to be in Alabama in my life.
I lost my radio signal just about the time I was entering the Yellowjammer State. Did you know Alabama was nicknamed the Yellowjammer State?
That’s what it says on Wikipedia at least. I trust they checked their facts.
The last thing I could make out was the double by Rolen. The now infamous 7th inning.
“Enjoy the winning,” I was told recently.
Enjoy the winning? That’s like telling somebody with a brick wall outside their bedroom window, “Enjoy the view.”
August 1st, 20101:55 am
Thanks, Trey and DOB (how awkward was THAT?) LOL
A funny tidbit, when KC was here in ATL earlier this year and Kyle F. was pitching, the braves radio guys were saying how he had the biggest “jacked up truck” they’ve ever seen (from any baseball player)…so we know he’ll fit right in with that kind of shall we say redneck vehicle
Supes, I am what?
August 1st, 20101:56 am
You’re welcome MiaBchBravesFan, have a good night.
August 1st, 20101:57 am
ah yes like KK’s vehicle
Tommeee, you had to catch my typo of David O’Brien’s name I didn’t even know I misspelled it, haha.
Yeah, Trey, but not only that, I’m still reading this blog several pages back. I recently came across where you told someone that they didn’t have a period at the end of their sentence. How could they have credibility?
I found that to be real funny. You and jeffrey d shared a laugh over it. I couldn’t believe that at the present time, I could use it against you. I couldn’t resist.
Wow, a couple of football players entered the stands to stop a fight.
August 1st, 20101:59 am
noleee, off to bed…That is what I would have guessed your take to be. Think what I was expecting. I was fine if they made no move. Think they are in a marginally better place, but no significant gain.
Check back in later. Hope you are doing well.
Tommeee, I was just being a smart ass to them because they were calling people idiots. If you are going to call someone “ignorant”, “stupid”, or anything with a lack of intelligence, make sure you have things correct. Normally I don’t care about spelling or punctuation, as long as they are not doing that or just being rude to other people.
August 1st, 20102:00 am
that is probably why KK has been such a failure and been ostracized so lately, he shoulda bought a jacked up pickemup truck
August 1st, 20102:01 am
Tommeee O’Hawkeee, you can always use something against me, because I can definitely put my foot in my mouth, especially when I am tired.
Coach (2011 or Bust)
August 1st, 20102:02 am
But what to do with KK because we all know that Cox is gonna let him rot in the bullpen, effectively leaving the Braves with a 24 man roster.
August 1st, 20102:04 am
Thanks for the reviews guys I have been trying to get updated on the days events and just from first glance i kind of agree that most are probably disapointed we didnt get a new all star on the team but hey we got another reliever and some outfield depth and theres no more chavez.we didnt give up the farm either. Now there just needs to be some decisions made on kk and glaus.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
