Interesting stat on espn: since 1969, the Braves have gone into Aug. leading 14 times. Of those 14 times, the Braves have won the division 13 times. Damn good to know!
“So folks, who do we get to replace the SS position next year or so…”

Just wanted to let you know I checked back in this afternoon and found the story of your attempt to record your famous call following the Series win in 1995; I even read it twice and felt even worse for you the second time.
Now, I’ve got the blog to thank for possibly saving my mom’s house from burning down. It’s true.
A couple of nights ago I was visiting her at her home outside Atlanta and–as usual–stayed up late to enjoy the stimulating conversation here on the DOB blog.
I shut down about 2:45 AM, passed thru her kitchen on the way to the den to catch Braves highlights, and didn’t like the sound the ice maker was emitting from her refrigerator. So I opened the freezer door and was met by the sight of her ice maker literally in flames as it began to melt through the plastic and into the lining.
I smothered the fire out and spent the rest of the wee hours transferring food to another fridge, fanning smoke out of the kitchen, and generally cleaning up.
The following day I took the ice maker to a local appliance repairman who told me if I hadn’t been awake to catch it, the fire would have quickly burned through the seal, the refrigerator would have become engulfed, and the fire would have quickly spread throughout her kitchen. A fuse on the maker was supposed to blow to prevent such an accident, but the fused didn’t.
Now–to inject a little humor into the situation and make a Braves baseball connection as a true DOB blogger should do–I thought back to the fire that engulfed the Atlanta Stadium press box the day Fred McGriff was acquired and thought, “Hmmmmm, the ice maker in my mom’s refrigerator caught on fire. The Braves must be about to make a big trade.”
I suppose the Ankiel-Farnsworth acquisition will do. After all, it was only an ice maker, not a press box.
I’ll check back in later as I’m actually doing some cleanup of her kitchen tonight.
Trey– That was Melky’s only bad defensive play all year. And he was just hustling to get that throw off quickly. You had to laugh at how ridiculous that throw looked. Sometimes you have to laugh it off to release the stress
@Trey, I didn’t see the game, but i heard what Melky did ! It’s just like the 1999 World Series when the Braves were playing the Yankees. Do anyone of you remember when the cameras were on Chipper and he was laughing at Ryan Klesko breaking hits bat popping up a ball to the yankees pitcher ?!? That was the second out to the Yankees Championship sweep of the Braves ! I was sooo mad at him that night ! Why is he laughing at the second out of the Championship ?!? And Bobby Cox said Nothing !!
“Getting away from the negativity did him a world of good.”
I get it fine. You’re only seeing what you want to see. After a hot five game start, he came back to reality. It’s not the negativity or anything else about the Braves. It’s him.
DB in MT: I think any of the “official” lots on north side of stadium are fine to park in. As for Greenville, N.C., the BBQ place I grew up eating was Parker’s. The other great place there is B’s BBQ.
Does anyone think Wilkin Ramirez – wilram – will be a September call up? Few at-bats, hit over .300, a “speedster” who’s 6′2″, 190 – def. not a Gregor Blanco in size.
You’ve been as wrong on this as you are about Minor
not wrong on either. Minor will be a middle of the rotation pitcher which I have said from the start. and A-Gony will go back to his 10 year history of stinking up the batters box. You are the one who is seeing what you want to see.

DB in MT: I think any of the “official” lots on north side of stadium are fine to park in. As for Greenville, N.C., the BBQ place I grew up eating was Parker’s. The other great place there is B’s BBQ.

Playoffs, but he was laughing at the wrong time. He should have waited until things settled down to laugh at what happened.

Ahem, Tom -
I’m afraid if I remove them, Sopheee might hurt me, OK?
Me? Hurt you? No way.
Don’t you dare remove those e’s though.

Rob from SC: I don’t know. But he’s gotta play better, and before too much longer I would think.
