The Yankees need Dunn to keep him away from the Rays.
The good thing about rosterbation is that you don’t go blind as a result. Unless you count blind loyalty.
Can we send Freeman and an arm to Seattle for Justin Smoak?
Stock couldn’t be lower on Smoak right now, and he’s going to have a tough time adjusting to the west coast (he’d thrive being closer to SC).
Freeman’s from California, correct? Seattle fits the move for him, too.
I’d love to have Smoak work with Chipper on his switch hitting…Smoak had the best swing I’ve seen in my life – and that was his first game in college when we beat him and South Carolina. They came to Elon and he hit a ball right handed that nearly bounced in the left handed batters box over 380 oppo to right field.
I’m all for acquiring Smoak, guy’s got serious talent.
Geography really makes a difference for some players and eventual superstars bounce around a little bit their first couple years, but this guy’s not a prospect. Smoak will be a an All-Star for at least 5-7 years in his MLB career.
Still also waiting on FW to trade for Micah Owings to be an OF for us next year…
Anyone like my ideas?

WREN’S PRODIGIOUS MAKER OF OUTS
A prodigious maker of outs.
Yes, that’s how ESPN’s Keith Law characterized Braves new shortstop, Alex Gonzalez, right after Wren traded Yunel Escobar for him — and before Escobar’s current hot streak.
Here’s the quote from Law:
“I like the minor league portion of the deal for Atlanta more than the major league portion. Escobar has been terrible this year at the plate, but still has an OBP (granted, in the easier league) forty points above Gonzalez’s equivalent, and the latter benefited from the homer-friendly Rogers Centre. Gonzalez is roughly Escobar’s equal in the field and is less erratic, but I’d probably still roll the dice on Escobar’s bat for the rest of the year, especially given Gonzalez’ long track record of OBPs at or below .300; even the change in leagues isn’t going to make him anything less than a prodigious maker of outs, although his consistency will likely placate the manager.” — End quote.
I am still IN SHOCK that Wren made this trade.
But it really makes one question Wren’s OVERALL JUDGEMENT — again and again!
Without Escobar the Braves are simply not as good a team now, as their after the break record demonstrates!
So much for Berkman! Close to being dealt to the Yankees!
Yankees close to Berkman too…wth…Dunn and Berkman
sorry about repost
BREAKING NEWS: PROMOTION CHANGE for Aug 2nd game vs. Mets
Braves will be handing out free cyanide tablets to the first 10,000 fans through the gate.

Slugger – heck no on a Freeman and pitching prospect for Smoak. NOT worth it!
PS. Freeman is from Alabama not Cali pal
Talk about crickets chirping….sheeez

Avoid the dreaded hairy palm scenario as well
Brian from SC
The thought of Berkman in LF scared the crap out of me. Let the Yankees have him. Go get Luke Scott if anyone. A legit outfielder, and a legit hitter.
does boston have a catcher for the future?
betancourt and dunn for ellsbury??
berkman to the yanks. plug someone else in y’alls fantasy lie-ups
Alex Gonzalez went to hospital this morning w/ gastritis, which caused his fever yesterday. He’s doing better on medication now, won’t play tonight but possibly tomorrow if he keeps improving
July 30th, 20105:05 pm
How busy was that site with rumors before the Escobar trade? Nothing.
You are right, there’s not really much out there I’d give young talent for so I say stand pat and play the cards we have and plan on that young talent winning for us next year. We have too many holes
Wren always outsmarts the rest of baseball by keeping his cards close to his vest. Have no fear about the lack of rumors, folks.
sorry about repost alabama brave
we’ll let you live….this time
Maybe FB me…if you’re around and anything goes down?
July 30th, 20105:06 pm
I’ll take the repost for a thousand, Alex.
Berkman to the Yanks. he’s gone
July 30th, 20105:07 pm
“Avoid the dreaded hairy palm scenario as well”
Would you idiots just leave me out of this?
Wren always keeps his cards close to his chest? Most of them he should never have been played. As a GM he’s a good second assistant to the clubhouse guy.
Yeah,right, Chop Chop.
July 30th, 20105:08 pm
So basically what DOB is saying is that we are screwed. Hershel
Did I miss this? Just making up sh#t arent you. Gotcha.
DOB is probably in the clubhouse since BP starts soon. That’s where he always is about this time.
Chop Chop that was GOOD, I think I’ll get me some!
David O’Brien can you either shut down the Ellsbury rumor .Or give us more info about it thanks
Thanks for the update on Gonzo!

July 30th, 20105:09 pm
Yup! One more down for the Braves. That wasn’t the right fit anyway. Berkman is going to the Yanks because they will take his salary on. The Astros needed to hear that since they will be paying for most of Oswalt’s deal
Hmm Omar Infante at SS instead of Alex Gonzalez, I’ll take that all day long! Ellsbury is a pretty exciting rumor. Wonder why they want to get rid of him?
Per Wikipedia on GASTRITIS:
“main acute causes are excessive alcohol consumption or prolonged use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (also known as NSAIDs) such as aspirin or ibuprofen.”
@Ken_Rosenthal: Source: #Braves still on Ross, two other teams “coming hard.”
Pretty graphic for a trade rumor…..
ESPN.com’s Buster Olney hears that the Steinbrenners have given pre-approval for the Yankees to take on a major salary such as Berkman’s
And this is why the Yankees win championships and others, like the Braves, come up short. Their management is willing to spend money and ours is not.
July 30th, 20105:10 pm
Cody Ross is off the table, reportedly. Berkman is likely going to be a Yankee. The Ellsbury rumor could hold some water, as Boston needs pitching… I’m not sure how much it would improve the team considering his real value is solely on the basepaths, and the Braves don’t attempt to steal too many bases. Take away his SB totals, and you have a less powerful Melky Cabrera.
Nice one at 5:03 PM.
Everyone will smell nice and ‘almond’y for the game.
I’m pretty sure there is no more info to give dude. Reporters don’t gain a whole lot by holding out on their readers.
jaysonst: Mass confusion on Cody Ross’ status. All I can tell you is one team that asked #Marlins today was told “available if price is right” #trades [via Twitter]
The Braves are gonna make us all excessive consumers of alcohol.
July 30th, 20105:11 pm
I’d like to see Omar at short. He’s not a good defensive shortstop, thus making it possible for the inevitable, and highly entertaining, blowback on this blog to commence.
Lance berkman to the Rangers
Isn’t it a little too soon to be jumping off the Alex Gonzalez bandwagon? Geez…
July 30th, 20105:12 pm
Yankees Close To Acquiring Lance Berkman
Not a lie
July 30th, 20105:13 pm
Astros trade 1B Lance Berkman to the Texas Rangers for Chris Davis and 3 other minor leaguers
little too soon to be jumping off the Alex Gonzalez bandwagon BB
some of us were never on it
Steve from OH
Did we ever hear what infection O’Flaherty had?
You have to be on the A-Gon bandwagon to jump off don’t you?
The blog is going to make me a more excessive consumer of alcohol…I can’t keep up even when refreshing constantly…
Exactly, Alabama. The Yankees like to win and do whatever it takes. The Braves owners are cheap and don’t care as much about winning.
July 30th, 20105:14 pm
Where are you seeing that. Looks like he is going to NYY?
I agree with poopsie, all the names that you are talking about is not any better than what we have now. I didn’t agree with the pickup of Glaus either. I do agree with one thing, we do needs some speed and some more power in the line up. I would love to see someone like Crawford or Upton in the line up, I think it would be a much better team if that happen. everyone is always talking about how bad KK is in the rotations, but I disagree. I think he is a good pitcher, and has a lot of potential if he would get more run support. Look at the has been that we have now in Wagner. I’ve always been a huge Braves fan since they move to Atlanta, but over the last 3 or 4 years this team has gone from america’s team to a pretender. I want my old team back.
July 30th, 20105:15 pm
Steve-I don’t think it was ever categorized as anything more than “a viral infection”.
Where did the Ellsbury rumors come form exactly?
Berkman to Rangers fWhy, or whom from what source? Everyone is reporting Yankees
Fire Frank Wren now!
Actually, Freddie is from Fountain Valley, which is not too far outside Los Angeles
July 30th, 20105:16 pm
Steve from OH,
You know better than to ask that. We can think of many comical possibilities.
Berkman is not going to the Rangers. The Yankees are getting Berkman, and most likely getting Dunn too.
It’s a Rangers scenario, hoping they would step up and block the Yanks.
July 30th, 20105:17 pm
The blog is going to make me a more excessive consumer of alcohol
You say that like there is something wrong with it…
why would they need both Berkman and Dunn?
BF2010….I still think the ChiSox get Dunn.
Ellsbury rumor came from some guy named DOB that rights a blog….
Dear Frank: No more old players.
BravesFan2010-They have an overwhelming need for first basemen? They going after Fielder, too?
Why cant Braves be like everyone else and make some deals
July 30th, 20105:18 pm
Yankees taking all that money, Rangers can’t, Astros can’t pay out anymore, Rangers got Cantu to do that job
Nole, they dont need Berkman and Dunn. They just want to get them to prevent other teams ( like the Rays) from getting them.
Chop Chop–I was looking for a laugh…
“Ellsbury rumor came from some guy named DOB that rights a blog….”
Sometimes he wrongs a blog.

Why cant Braves be like everyone else and make some deals
Two words: Liberty Media
Larry, because the Braves owners are cheap. Maybe Mark Cuban or Arthur Blanks will buy the Braves. Or maybe Bill Gates.
God I hate Liberty Media. They have really destroyed this organization.l
“little too soon to be jumping off the Alex Gonzalez bandwagon” BB
some of us were never on it -noleeeee
Took the words out my mouth.
July 30th, 20105:20 pm
Two more words: No MONEY!
I kinda doubt that will happen 2010, but they could afford it for sure. we’ll see
I do agree that this team needs some young guys with a little bit of speed. This team is already pretty darn slow and old. Chipper, McCann, Glaus, Hinske all in the middle of the order is a combo of slow and old and slow. Ellsbury in CF for a while would be nice. Prado is not a leadoff hitter long term. And Jason Heyward sure the heck isn’t a 2-hitter.
Oh we have money, but our owners just are too cheap to use it.
MLB said Liberty Media has to hold onto the Braves for a certain amount of time. Does anyone remember how long, and when is that time period up?
braves sign the ‘85 Bears…..
BRAVES still looking, FRANK WREN STANDING PAT, aint going to make the BRAVES any better, all we can get now has already been picked over.
I guess the comments are coming too fast for the “one word: Monistat” sort of responses. Nobody cares about humor. They’d rather be wrapped up in rumor. That’s cool.
July 30th, 20105:21 pm
@Larry – Many reasons. Liberty aren’t going to spend a lot, Wren already over paid for Lowe, Mc-Out, and KK. Wren isn’t in the same class of GM as Cashman et al. He’s constantly out maneuvered and overpays. I’d trade Wren for th emanager of th elocal Shell station
Liberty Media destroyed this organization? Given to hyperbole, are we?
Any corporate problems were from the Time Warner administration and I hardly categorize the Braves as a destroyed organization.
If the Braves were to acquire Berkman to play the outfield, then yes, > Laroche.
But, if LaRoche could be had, I’m not sure why the Braves would be afraid of not playing Troy Glaus.
Back to Berkman, the Oswalt trade may make it more likely that Berkman gets traded as well. Sure, the fans won’t like it, but they don’t like it (in Houston) any way. Attendance is terrible, so bad in fact, that if you buy 1 adult ticket in the upper decks, they give you 2 free children’s tickets.
Guess where the UKUGA Family sits?
July 30th, 20105:22 pm
Plate Apperance: Per your Keith Law quote it would be real nice if people stopped pretending everyone in media thought it was a good trade.
I would love to see the Braves deal with the D-Backs for Chris Young. He’s 26 makes $3.5 Milion. He would be worth one of those good pitchers in the minors and the D-Backs are looking for young pitching.
July 30th, 20105:23 pm
Bobby Cox said O’Flaherty had strong throwing session Wednesday in Atlanta, but didn’t give timetable for return.
Matt Diaz has had a hot bat, got to find a way to keep him in the lineup. Besides I actually think he does pretty well in Great American.
July 30th, 20105:24 pm
The deal is “imminent,” according to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News (on Twitter).
Matt has had a white hot bat…but only against lefties
Young sux away from ‘zona.. ( I have that comment on hold for instant insertion)
I love the idea of Ellsbury if he’s healthy for SPEED…
I was excited about Berkman for POWER but now he’s gone…
WHERE’S THE POWER BAT COMING FROM?
