We could always leave KK in a basket covered in a blanket at the main gate of any ballpark in the country with a note that reads, “free to a good home”
Good Blog. Didn’t Wags just turn 39, though? SO happy Venters is available, wow, what a break! Diaz may hit great at the ballpark but we’re not facing any lefty starers so OF COURSE, Cox won’t let him start. Ahhh! Big no to all players mentioned except maybe J. Ellsbury could be intruiging provided we didn’t have to give away to many good prospects. All others, Berkman, are you kidding me? We just don’t need any more aging declining veteran players. No to Fat Elvis! And I’m sorry Bobby doesn’t want to “offend” Troy by playing Hinske more often but too bad! I really like Troy but we need an offensive spark big time. I am also still tickled by the idea of J-Hey in CF, I think that would be interesting to see if no trades are made. Everyone is afraid of a defense that included Matty D and Hinske in the same outfield but I’d love to see it, you can substitue for their D later in a game. Let’s mix it up a little, what can we lose, we are already doing that lately. Go Braves!
I think Ellsbury would be an awesome pick up. I think if they grabbed him and brought up Freeman and allowed Glaus to get some god d@mn rest they’d be OK. I think the lineup should look like this:
I like Heyward in that 2 spot as both him and Ellsbury have speed and get on a lot. You back that up with Prado’s average and BMac protecting him I think you have a great lineup. Heyward & Ellsbury get on and you have a huge threat on base which will play around with the pitchers head and hopefully give Prado or BMac a good pitch to hit.
ThePriceisWrongBitch! – Yes, please check his stats, and not just this year! If he was that good, Blanco would be the Braves starting CF, and we wouldn’t have gotten Nate. He is good in his role but he isn’t an everyday player. We’ll have to agree to disagree
Truely paying the price for moves that did not pan out: Lowe, KK, NMcLouse, etc…
Watch the season go down the division drain:(
All we have is HOT minor LEAGUE prospects…
Maybe next year.
Wow, funny stuff on the blog this afternoon. Where the hell are RHR, Scoots, Roman Gal, Soph, nolee, and Bay Area Steve? I see some classic stuff here that needs to be archived into their brains.
I can’t imagine why Glaus is still playing. He’s obviously gimpy, can’t run and can’t hit. Put Hinske at 1B until further notice.
And the Braves don’t need Ellsbury. What the need to do is put Blanco back in CF. Cox pegs someone as a bench player until somebody hits him with a 2×4 and gets his attention. Martin Prado was ready to play a year before Cox finally gave him a chance. And when the Braves were white-hot a few weeks ago, Blanco was playing CF, scoring runs and doing a lot of little things that count. He a much more mature player than a year ago, and the chemistry on that team was sky high.
If John Brantley and Urban Meyer get into a massive car crash with the Alabama team bus then i’d say the Dawgs have a really good shot at least to win the SEC
“He’s a top-3 prospect in all of MLB, not just for us. Minor’s more of a 25-50 type guy, along with Randall and Arodys.”
He’s like Kris Medlen in that I wouldn’t give either one up right now unless I got a legit anchor piece back independent of how much scouts misjudged either of them.
That’s cool. I just think that Blanco is underrated and if given the opportunity to play everyday, would perform better than what we have been putting out there the past two years.
McLouth has been a total bust. I was very happy when we traded for him, but everyone thought that he was a plus OF defender with power/speed…
I’m really glad that we finally sent him down to AAA. Now Cox can’t play him on a daily basis…
Joe Sheehan of SI.com makes a good case for the Braves trading for Luke Scott:
The Orioles trade OF/1B Luke Scott to the Braves for SS Mycal Jones and RHP Stephen Marek.
Scott isn’t a sexy name, like Dunn or Lilly or Houston’s Lance Berkman, but he’s as likely to help a new team as any of them are. After getting a late start in the majors, Scott has a career line of .267/.350/.504, spending half his six-year career in the brutal AL East. He’s having his best season since 2006, batting .283/.353/.558 while fighting nagging injuries. He’s a left-handed batter with a track record of hitting lefties, and perhaps best of all, he comes with a low price tag and isn’t a free agent until after 2011.
The Braves just demoted Nate McLouth, who’s having a disastrous season, and continue to fake their outfield situation, turning back to Melky Cabrera to man center field while using a rotation in left. Scott would help bolster that group while also providing, with Eric Hinske, alternatives to the sputtering Troy Glaus (four doubles, no homers in July) at first base. Scott’s disciplined approach at the plate fits a lineup loaded with veterans who know how to work the count.
The Orioles have a ton of nearly-ready starting pitching but little else. Jones, a 23-year-old shortstop, is raw (37 errors, 88 strikeouts in 95 games at two levels this season) with demonstrated skills. It’s an upside play for the Orioles, who also get back a reliever, in Marek, with a track record of minor-league success to upgrade the weakest part of their major-league roster.
He’s like Kris Medlen in that I wouldn’t give either one up right now unless I got a legit anchor piece back independent of how much scouts misjudged either of them.
I’d actually prefer him to Meds because he’s a lefty and he has a good third pitch if the scouts aren’t lying. But yeah, good comp and that’s a good way to value him.
Jo Jo Reyes was just scratched from his start… Said he may be coming back to the Braves in a Bautista deal… As long as the Braves take Jo Jo back, Bautista will be tossed in for free.
Saw MBraves might mite lefty reliever Tim Collins get the save in Huntsville last night. The AA hitters could not do much with him. I can definitely see him at the ML level although I bet the scouts hate him because of his small stature.
Isnt this just the most awesome time of the year? People can make up fantasy trade ideas AND insert them into fantasy lineups. Its a 2 for 1 deal people. Make the most of if today, because after tomorrow, you’ll have to see the same 25 guys play out 2-1 and 3-1 ballgames. What a bore!
I think we’ll be better, but Florida’s still loaded and Bama would likely be waiting for us in the SEC title game. After last season’s debacle on defense, I’d like to think that we’ll improve on that side of the ball. I’m not sure how much better Murray will be than Joe Cox was in 2009, but at least we have the knowledge that Murray doesn’t have a bum shoulder and will have a chance to lead the team for a few seasons. It also looks like our running game is going to be stronger after Ealey and King were able to break through at the end of last season. I know our O-line is solid. As for the special teams, we’ve got two great kickers returning and a top-drawer return guy in Boykin.
I’ll go with 10-3. As long as we kill Tennessee, beat Florida, and take out Tech, I can be very happy about 10-3.
Folks, I know this is crazy but bear with me. How about we just play our best players every night instead of the ones who are supposed to be good? I know that this is a wild idea but I’m just throwing it out there. Please don’t hoot me off the blog.
Of the bunch mentioned in this aritcle Ellsbury or Berkman would seem the better fit. The other guys are having career years and those don’t usally pan out .. We already have a guy who was having a career year in power and hasn’t hit a homer for us yet?? Cox doesn’t usually use a speed guy very well so Berkman would bet a better fit, but Ellsbury if healthy is a great player!!
Chop Chop, I’m beginning to think UGA will never win another national title. It’s been 30 years for goodness sake. This is Richt’s 10th year and no title yet.
Ironically, he got his “Sea Bass” nickname from a pouting expression he wore as a young player. Crime Dog’
yeah I know, but the pout became a smile and now he is no longer a cancer. but the team certainly seems flatter since they got him and not more sprightly like was envisioned Hasn’t been his fault directly, but we were s’posed to be invincible once Escobrat left
To Me: at 4:11PM, thanks for the awesome link on Matty D from the Beacher Report: AMEN and I’ve been saying that for years!!!!!!!! Last season, when Frenchy got shipped off to NYMets, Matty D got to play mostly every day in RF and he was awesome!!! He never does circles in the outfield like Melky does and he can just hit so why doesn’t Bobby give him a real legitimate chance to play every day? I just don’t get it, I really don’t. And it burns me up but Diaz is such a great guy and team player that he will take his lumps and he just appreciates the crumbs he is thrown! I almost would rather he got a chance to play every day somewhere else but I would never get to see him play and I love his crazy intense style of play. Listen up Bobby, wake up and see him for the player he can be!
Buckhead Brave: Urban Meyer is not going to be in a car wreck until he is released from the padded room.
After that he is going to the Family Day every Thursday at the University of Florida. Then he is going to get a protologist to help him get his head out of Tebow’s ___.
•The Rays are convinced that the Yankees will acquire Dunn, Peter Gammons told WEEI.com. Gammons suspects that if the Nationals trade Dunn, the Yankees will acquire him
So why do the Yankees need Dunn ? They have scored more runs than any team in baseball.
If Florida’s defense is even serviceable they will be better this year. They weren’t that good last year, they crumbled under the pressure and Tebow was average. They have a QB who some voted 3rd best in the SEC LAST year when he was on the bench, they return all 3 running backs with Chris Rainey finally replacing Percy Harvin in the slot and they have a young group of WR’s that are unproven but could be the best since the Spurrier days of Ike Hilliard, Jaquez Green, and Reidell Anthony. I dont know how it will turn out but they have the potential to be dominant, like 1996 dominant.
Lew, I don’t really have anything against getting Ellsbury , I was just responding to the idea that he is like Heyward in OBP. If it didn’t cost an arm and a leg Ells is alright with me.
So basically what DOB is saying is that we are screwed. And I agree. Cox is a fool and he will continue to mismanage the lineup, and Wren will get us no one worth a flip because Liberty is too cheap. It’s over. Stick a fork in the Braves.
noleeee-Me too – IF he can play. I kind of think right now that’s a BIG IF. Long term though…….could be an interesting move if they don’t have to give up both Kawakami and McLouth, right?
theo loves prospects. He will ask for someone like Delgado or Minor for Ellsbury I would guess. Boston is well known to look for relievers so he may also go for Marek plus Melky or Kimbrel plus Melky.
Berkman and Ellsbury are both intriguing. Lance has always been a very good hitter, may be having a down year, but might be a good fit in LF. Ellsbury addresses the teams need for speed and a CF. If he get hit for a nice average and get on base, that very well could help this team score runs. It might also bump Chipper out of the 3-spot, and allow Martin and Jason to be more of run producers.
Please people…easy on the Jacoby Ellsbury trade talks. One little blog mentions it with no credible source and this entire blog is able how Ellsbury is going to help us.
I seriously doubt Frankie is going to trade for a guy who is rehabbing an injury (no assurance). He is much more likely to get Coco Crispies from Mexican Hu-ha league.
If the Braves do trade for someone, I doubt it will be worth taking up this entire blog to write about.

It’s over. Stick a fork in the Braves.

theo loves prospects. He will ask for someone like Delgado or Minor for Ellsbury I would guess. Boston is well known to look for relievers so he may also go for Marek plus Melky or Kimbrel plus Melky.

I think Luke Scott would be an excellent pickup. He can free up Hinske to spell Glaus at 1B. Plus, he’s a proven good hitter with a career .854 OPS.
