You didn’t just read what I typed, did you? LOL!
As constructed, I think this team wins the division and gets thumped in the playoffs unless they end up with the NL’s best record and have home field throughout the playoffs (and WS, which the NL does have).
But if the Braves are the worst of the 3 division winners (or make the playoffs as the WC) and have that first series on the road? Might as wel call BALLGAME now.
Obviously anything can happen, anybody can get hot, etc….. etc… etc….
But this team is FUGLY on the road and the best team in baseball at home. It’s that simple. Even in the midst of the hot streaks, they ususally played under .500 for most road trips.

We wouldn’t be the best team in the post-season (I think the club is built better for a long season than a short series because we don’t have many “wow” players but a lot of solid ones), but sometimes that doesn’t matter. The playoffs are a crapshoot. McCann could get hot and have a big series and we’d win with our pitching and bullpen. Martin could go 0-his life and we’d lose even if our pitching was stellar.
Cardinals wouldn’t win too many series if Pujols went 0-15 or whatever.

Troy just looks feeble. We got our money’s worth in a single month. We need Omar and Diaz getting ABs. Troy is the odd man out. And our D at first and in LF would improve. That’s our solution, not selling the farm for speculative upgrade for half a season.

I think if Wren actually does make a worthwhile and meaningful trade for a good outfielder, the decision should be made to let Hinske play first for a while. That, or put Prado at first with Infante at second.

I think it’s pretty clear that this isn’t just a temporary slump for Glaus. This is the Glaus that we should have expected all along. Our power production is going to have to come from McCann, Heyward, Gonzalez, and maybe Chipper.

Chris Young from the D-Backs is the solution! But ellsbury would be nice too. Move prado to the two hole and allow heyward to hit 4-6 where he would produce more rbis. C. Young would be the answer tho.

That’s a good point. But the best team wins about as many as it loses. It’s a total crap-shoot with all teams basically having a 12.5% chance of winning.

IMO, without any moves being made, he’s the best one in the clean up spot (sorry, McFann).
Eh…I guess I would have to agree. Back when Glaus was going great, he would have been perfect for cleanup. He had 40+ RBI when BMac had about 18…But since the ASB, BMac’s really been catching up to him in the RBI category.
Wish they could get another guy to bat cleanup, though…
I couldn’t agree more, McFann, but I don’t see that guy on this team right now.

The idea of Prado at first and Infante at second, when we are facing a lefty, makes sense. Diaz in LF, and Hinske on the bench for when they bring in a righty reliever. Not every night, but an option to get Glaus off the field.

It could mean the Braves believe something COULD happen. It doesn’t necessarily mean a deal has been made. I’d be a little surprised if Minor was moved for Cody Ross or Josh Willingham, despite the Braves depth in pitching prospects.

Dave do you think the Braves will make a real attempt at Luke Scott? Seems like a great fit. He is a better left fielder than Hinske and would make a great platoon with Diaz. Hinske could then spell or even platoon with the obviously injured and/or tired Glaus. Plus he is under control next year. A platoon of Diaz and Scott could solve the left field problem. Heard anything about it?

if Jacoby Ellsbury is healthy and available the Braves should go get him. No he is not a power bat but he is someone who can get on base with speed. He can man CF for 3+years.
Either that or the Braves should do their all to get Matt Kemp or Chris Young. Anything but Teheran, Freeman, or Minor. If Delgado or Vizcaino are required, so be it. I would keep Delgado over Vizcaino myself though I know most scouts feel the opposite. Marek, Dunn, Kimbrel, and even Medlen need to available for the right player

Ellsbury drove in 60 runs mostly from the leadoff spot last year. Combine this with the fact that Prado would bat 2nd and move Heyward to the heart of the order for better RBI opportunities, I feel Jacoby would be a nice plus regarding run production.

My perspective is that we haven’t made the playoffs in five years. Personally, I’d kind of like to see them get there this time but the five games they’ve dropped in the standings over the last seven days has me somewhat concerned.
Being in first place in July doesn’t guarantee anything.
What is this whole entitlement thing about by the way? If I was a Yankee fan, I’d be entitled.
