Blanco recalled from Triple-A

CINCINNATI – The Braves recalled Gregor Blanco from Triple-A Gwinnett, and the outfielder was expected to be in uniform for Saturday afternoon’s game against the Reds.

Outfielder Brent Clevlen was designed for assingnment to open a spot for Blanco, a move announced by the Braves late Friday after their 10-inning win against Cincinnati. Clevlen is expected to return to Gwinnett if he clears waivers.

Blanco was recalled after the 10-day minimum stay required when a player is optioned to the minors. He was went to Gwinnett on July 21 when the Braves activated Nate McLouth from the disabled list.

McLouth was demoted back to Gwinnett this week to work on his hitting after his season-long struggles continued in his first games back from the DL.

I’d have rather lost today if it meant that Prado wouldn’t get too banged up. This game wasn’t worth losing our best player. I’m hoping against the worst, but he could be done for the season. He will probably try to play through the pain a la Jordan Schafer…what to do? Brooks or Omar at 2B. If the Braves make a trade then I hope its a blockbuster. Go for Broke!!

I wish these guys would go into a base feet first, it’s too easy to injure a hand, wrist, etc when going in head first. Prado should know this better than anyone. He was out for a couple of months before with a hand injury by doing just what he did tonight.

I’m confused. I was under the impression that Blanco was already on the 40 man roster, since he was optioned down when McLouth came up. Why then was Clevlen designated for assignment, unless there is another move in the air?

Prado is the Braves PETE ROSE..Man we can’t lose him. Medlen arm looks bad but he will be ok, they said.
Believe the Braves would come out better trading with Royals for big bat and relief pitcher. What do U fans think?

Glad to see Blanco back.. He gives this team quite a bit in terms of options. He is probably Melkys equal in CF and at the plate, and he is a better than average late inning pinch runner/defensive replacement in LF if Hinske or Diaz is playing.

So, while I still think there is a real hole that would be great to see Wren figure out how to fill, bringing Blanco back is like trading McClouth for a solid bench player.

wjones, Clevlan is out of options, so he simply can’t be optioned to the minors, he has to put through waivers before he can report. Clevlan just opened up a spot on the 25-man for Blanco, but Clevlan had to be DFA’d because he is out of options

I do not want to be negative as so many others, great win tonight! I continue to be baffled by Bobby using the same 4 relievers, Moylan, Saito, Venters, and Wagner. I again thought we had lost the game again when he went to Chavez, but kudos to him he got a clutch strike out. What I don’t understand is why we don’t use Dunn who has an ERA below 1.1 and when he was up Kimbrell. Dunn has been sitting in the bullpen for almost a week. IF Bobby brings him in and he doesn’t do well, how can you blame Dunn, I can’t imagine sitting for a week, no live work, you can’t possible stay sharp. I say all this for a reason, as good as those guys we use have been, will they be worn out by September, October??? I’ve said it on earlier blogs Bobby is the best players manager ever, he backs them up, doesn’t berate them to the media etc. BUT did anyone else think the best move when he put Diaz in, was to move Hinske to first and sit Glause?? Hinske is hot, why take his bat out of the lineup? For now at least Glaus is a big hole in the middle out lineup. Any body else have anything to add?

Nice to see Blanco has grown up. He had his head on right and his attitude on right and now he’s back after the minimum 10 days. They had to give McLouth ANOTHER shot, he’s getting getting paid a real salary, but they had him on a short leash. When he hit into the one out bases loaded double play, the Braves knew it, Bobby Cox knew it and McLouth knew it. He had to go down to AAA. I think Prado will miss som time, hopefully Infante can stay hot and Blanco can provide the hustle.

Glaus will get hot at the plate again. But moving Hinske to 1st, and taking Glaus out seemed like the most logical move.
Also, I didn’t understand the move against the Fish, the otherday, when Cox took Hinske out in the 7th inning and replaced him with McLouth. Even though Hinske had hit a HR in the game.
But Bobby has done a lot of things through the years that have baffled me.

Finally, it’s starting to come together. I wouldn’t worry about Prado.. even if he does play through pain and miss games, we’re not losing much by having Infante in the lineup. It weakens the bench during stretches he has to start, but I wouldn’t worry too much about that. I’d be more concerned with picking up another bat, preferably someone that could fit into either the #2 hole to push Heyward up or someone at 5 or 6 to drive in runs.

crymeariver- Hinske’s foot was still hurting from getting plunked. We had bases loaded at the time and needed Nate’s speed. If BC had known that Glaus was about to GIDP, there would have been no switch. BC figured we’d get at least one run that inning and have McLouth in there for defense.

I don’t think we need to go shopping for any more outfield help. Melky has been playing well lately and in tandom with Blanco center field will be really solid. The only weak part right now is Glaus, that’s why Hinske should play first base against the righties and Glaus get the start against lefties. That way Glaus can rest up his knees and hopefully get back to his May status. I think Glaus’ biggest problem right now isn’t his swing or focus, his body just seems to be breaking down from the grind of the season. In left field give Infante the start against right handers and Diaz the start against lefties. If Prado ends up on the DL (PLEASEEEE let him be ok) Conrad would be a good fit at second base, I could see him being a good lead off man as well.
Im not too worried about the bullpen. I’d like to swap out Chavez for Resop, but it’s hard to look at the Atlanta bullpen and be unhappy. Hopefully O’Flaherty comes back soon, Dunn needs to spend a little more time in the minors working on his control before he can pitch in the bigs.

Troy is giving you everything he has got but with the long season(after being inactive last year), his body is wearing down. It’s a good thing we saw this instead of giving him 10 million after we saw all the production in June. Freddie Freeman seems to be ready based on his minor league stats. Bring him up and give Glaus a rest(backup at 1B and 3B positions) before you completely wear him down!!!!

The braves need to move chipper out ot the 3 spot. He has very little power.. swings really early to try and get on top of the ball. which often finds him totally off balance. When chipper came up he was given the 3spot in the lineup off of his minor league stats and his future promise. it was the right move them and taking him out of that 3spot now would be the right move..chipper didnt have to toil and learn to hit in that 3 spot. plus he was coming off of a season where he was DL the whole season..but for some reason now that its heywards time.. everyone wants to put forward this crasy notion that he isnt ready..The braves drafted a 6.5 240lb player to drive in runs. which was doing batting 6th whiles having no one hitting well behind him..Then came THE WISDOM OF COX…he puts him in the 2 hole and for what..some will say it was do to the injured thumb.. i would counter that is non sense..why would move an injured player into a spot where he would be getting the 2nd most at bats on the team..Cox wanted it to look like he was giving the kid protection by lettering him hit in from of chipper..that didnt work because all the kids stats went dont. pitchers arent that dumb.. they pitched heyward tougher..chipper dont have much power and he dont even drive the ball into the allies anymore…Cox & Wren have clearly mismanaged this team and the lineup this year..by been in 1st place they have been over looked

Hey, Welcome back, Gregor! Great win last night, really hope Martin is OK, it really is true that as he goes, so goes the team. Melk-Man is playing very well right now, love his hustle!! Maybe everyone will get off him for now. But Troy just needs to rest, why does Cox insist on playing him at 1st every time? Even watching him trot back to the dugout looks painful. Let Hinske spell him at 1st and give another bat a start in LF either Omar or Matty D. Wags is just giving me a heart attack every time lately but he pulled it out. Go Braves!

They also need to bring up Cabrera & Richaadrson From AA Miss and platoon them with DIAZ and Blanco at the top of the oder and get this team to scoring more run,,,i dont live in Atlanta. so i dont know how the local media is treating the braves.. but the national media has missed the story of how badly managed this braves team have been this year..form the front office all the way down to the dugout. That Cleven & Hicks have spent time on the roster tealls you need to know about the mismanagment..neither of those guys are ever going to be anying other than life time minor leagers..they both are strikeout a minute hitters..and neither will ever hit more than 220 in the majors..which is about what they hit in the minors

I wouldn’t mind seeing Blanco in center and leading off. Good speed and hustle and plays a good CF. I’d also like to see Freeman up here batting against righties, spelling Glaus and getting experience for next season. Might as well get Kimbrel up here for add’l BP help and experience for next year. Between Venters and Kimbrel our set-up and closer are set for next year. No need to trade for what we already have. Freeman should be getting time in LF if you ask me. He’s just as athletic as Diaz or Hinske.

BamaFan that is a great lineup. If Glaus were to ever pick it up you could move him into the 6th spot. That is the lineup I came up with if we got Ellsbury. Could you imagine your lineup with Ellsbury at the top rather than Blanco? Nasty.
