Great start by Lowe in a game we really needed. He really sucks. We are going to lose 2 of 3 to the Nats. Watch Philly come in and sweep them this weekend.
The top of our order looks like they forgot it was an afternoon game.
Do we have the worst #3 hitter in the league at this point? I can’t see many teams having less production than Chipper (even though he’s so happy about how often he walks).
Did I mention that the Phils haven’t lost a game since they fired their hitting coach Milt Thompson? Just saying……
And oh yeah…. Leo Mazzone said on the pre-game show that all those Oswalt career stats against the Braves and at Turner Field could just be thrown out the window. Basically he said the Phils backing Oswalt up, ain’t the Astros!
almost hard to belive the braves were up 7 games just a week ago..but then again after watching this team play this past week it’s even harder to believe they ever got up 7 games to begin with.
If Lowe, Glaus and Hanson don’t pull it together pretty soon, we’re not making the playoffs. Those guys are in such critical positions and are just failing their teammates miserably right now.
So the Phillies are eyeing Tejada and Bautista, and they just signed Oswalt? Hmmm, they sure are going for it, of course I guess the Braves are just playing it close to the vest.
here’s a quick AA farm report for anyone interested. Saw the AA Braves last night. Teheran started. Julio wasn’t fooling anybody, he had a rough night. He was throwing hard but struggled hard all night with location. He only lasted 4 & 2/3. A lot of the outs were frozen ropes too. On a positive note, he had a nasty looking change up, but he was having locating it too. You can tell though he’s got the potential, I don’t know anything much about his stats, maybe it was an off night on the control.
I was interested to see Pastornicky and Collins that they just got in the trade. Thought Pastornichky looked pretty good overall. He got thrown out trying to steal second, and it wasn’t even close. I liked what I saw from him at the plate. He made good hard contact every time, twice lined out hard to right and right center, on one he was robbed of a probable double.
Collins looked pretty good. Gave up a couple of hits but no runs. Has a funky delivery, he went right after the hitter. He is very small, looks like he’s probably shorter than Medlin.
Schaeffer was 0fer. Couple of fly outs and a ground out. I think he had a walk. He looked very good in the outfield for what that’s worth, has a very good arm. He was playing left instead of center for some reason. He got quite a workout out there b/c the team got hammered. Final score was 6-0 and it could have easily been about 10-0. No one would try to run on Schaefer, he displayed a very good arm, a couple times a guy stopped at third instead of trying to score on plays I thought would easily knock in a run, but Schaefer rifled it in and I saw why they were holding up. Now if he could just start hitting again. Maybe he will.
does anyone know the terms of Lowe and Kawakami’s contracts? how much longer do we have to keep paying these guys, and how much $ is tied up in them in 2011?
If we lose the division, don’t think for a moment we will win the wc. Too many teams in the NL like the dodgers, giants, reds to contend with. I don’t think hart or wilingham will be the silver bullet, either. The braves are a good team, but not a great one. Hudson and prado are our mvps. After them, its a crap shoot. We just don’t have the deep pockets to do it anymore-especially since d lowe, kawakami, and mclouth are robbing us blind.
With Philly getting their second breath and trying to add a top pitcher to their rotation, they are making their move. The Mets are getting healthy again with Beltran back in the lineup.
The Braves need an outfielder but they also need to show the league they are playing for the pennant. The status quo we have, which obviously isn’t bad, is still not going to get them to the top. I hope I am wrong, but I believe I may be right, in that the Braves do not have the outfield to win a pennant. A lot of games, but not enough.
The infield is fine. I would like to see Hinske and Glaus platooning at first. Troy is wobbly on his knees and slumping again. Infante could be used more to spell Prad, Gonzo and Chipper.
With Diaz and Cabrera platooning occasionally in left and with Jason either in center or right, the whole is obvious. We need a solid outfielder to compete at the top.
Pitching is not going to change. The Braves are not going to pay millions for a starter.
Lets hope Wren and Bobby are working in the next 48 hours to get a QUALITY outfielder to kjeep us on top.
the problem is, what can Wren really do at this point? the Phillies can get Oswalt because they have $$$. Liberty Media isn’t going to let Wren spend more $$$, and definitely not what it would take to get any sort of player who could counter the Oswalt acquisition.
the real tragedy here is the amount of $$$ we’ve wasted on players who are doing nothing, and are actually hurting the team – Lowe, KK, McLouth. we are basically paying those guys to help us lose games.
Wren’s only option is to trade away minor league talent, and i’m not sure that’s a good idea. I don’t want another Teixiera situation on our hands. Unfortunately I think the only thing he can do is hope this team somehow remembers how to play baseball again and continue to look to the future.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention about Pastornicky. He looked better to me than Hicks did when I saw him in AA, for what that’s worth in my expert analysis. Saw Diory Hernandez too, but don’t remember much about how he looked. I remember I wasn’t impressed with Hicks.

To keep him in Gwinnett would, IMO, may stunt his growth and development as a hitter. Freeman for 1B!!!!!
The line on D Blow so far 4 earned in 5 innings @ 15 mill per year. He hasn’t gone past the 5th inning in 6 games and the Braves are 1-5 in those games. His cost per inning is way too high.
We still are missing the big bat. It would be nice to get someone who can fill a power hole though I would be happy with someone who gets on base a lot. Since Bautista can play OF or 3B he, I am sure, is being looked at but he is a buy hi type guy. The Braves could buy on the low side for Chris Young and Matt Kemp.
With LaRoche being such a second half king and the Diamond Backs looking to unload, do the Braves try to bring over Chris Young and Adam LaRoche? They could trade Glaus to the Rangers or somebody for a prospect

Oswalt’s ERA over the past three seasons is 3.71…and the Phillies are giving up prospects to pay him $16 million next year. They never should have ditched Cliff Lee. They’ve been flailing ever since.
i don’t know, i don’t really feel like we’re missing the big bat… i just feel like guys aren’t producing consistently at all. A big bat would be helpful, but you wouldn’t need it if Glaus would start playing semi-competent baseball, you had some idea of what you were going to get out of 3rd base, and you had a centerfielder who wasn’t essentially a 4th outfielder on most teams.
I don’t think you HAVE to get a Ryan Howard-esque power hitter, you just need some of these guys to do their jobs. If that happened, the need to get a bat would go away. That’s what happened in May and June, and the team was great. But when you have so many automatic outs in your lineup like we currently have, you get shut down by below average pitchers like we seem to do on a weekly basis.

i don’t know, i don’t really feel like we’re missing the big bat… i just feel like guys aren’t producing consistently at all.
