With the Philadelphia Phillies reportedly completing a deal for Roy Oswalt Thursday, and Oswalt expected to OK the trade, the Atlanta Braves are on the spot. They’ve been looking for a center fielder without much luck at this stage and to stay one step ahead of the Phillies, a move might be necessary.
It doesn’t appear they have any interest in acquiring Adam Dunn or Prince Fielder, but they have shown interest in outfielders Corey Hart and Josh Willingham. We’re not sure whether Washington is willing to move Willingham, but the Brewers would like to trade Hart in a sell-high scenario.
The Braves also could look into infield insurance in case Chipper Jones is unable to stave off another visit to the disabled list, and adding to the rotation is never a bad thing, but we haven’t heard the Braves mention on the trade market for starting pitching.
People often forget why we ended up with Lowe…our pitching staff was fragile. So they went out and got a guy to soak up a ton of innings. He’s done that.
He’s also only as good as his run support unfortunatly.
Well, I don’t think Gonzalez or Smith are available. They want to trade Hawpe, but I doubt they find any takers. That leaves Fowler and Spilborghs. Spilborghs is OPSing .829 this year in 200 ABs and can play some center. Fowler is a “toolsy” guy and I doubt they would trade him. I think if we can get one of their OF, it will be Spilborghs.

Really it’s not Lowe’s fault. Someone kidnapped the real D. Lowe and the player out there pitching is really the Phillie Phanatic disguised as Derek Lowe.
It is unfortunate that I have placed Lowe in the same realm as Kawakami. I expect them to lose and am pleasantly surprised when they don’t. I know there is alot of game left and I am still hopeful, however, I am not confident when Lowe pitches.
People often forget why we ended up with Lowe…our pitching staff was fragile. So they went out and got a guy to soak up a ton of innings. He’s done that.
Like hell he has. If anybody should be made to pitch deep into games even if he’s losing it’s Derek Lowe but Bobby treats him like he’s freakin’ Steven Strasberg.
It’s a joke. I still can’t believe he took him out after eight innings against the Phillies on opening night last year. He was at 92 pitches or some s***. Two little weak ground balls get through, otherwise he had a perfect game going.
No, gotta save the starters. Bobby sure did a great job of that last year. He saved them all from having to pitch in October.
Personally, I like how Lowe comes right back out after his offense finally wakes up and just steps on the other team’s throat. “Not on my watch” he says. And he gets that offense right back in the dugout again. Good stuff.
Fight back and score a couple to tie it up…… then Lowe gives them back in the very next NAT at bat. That’s almost a death sentence that spells a loss in any game. Score important runs and give them back immediately.
I hope with all my heart and soul that we can hang on and make it to the postseason – but I’m not convinced at this point. And it really hurts to say that.
You gotta hope Lowe didn’t just zap the energy out of the guys right there. Dangit those innings can kill momentum, giving runs back right after you tie it up. They need to keep plugging away againt Olsen though, he’ll give them some chances.

i know i’m piling on here, but I am just consistently stunned at how worthless Derek Lowe is. If this idiot could just do his job with some degree of competence, I would fee SOOOO much better about this team’s playoff chances. You knew as soon as Diaz got those 2 runs, Lowe would give them right back. And if a guy is getting paid $15M, it doesn’t seem like it’s too much to ask for him to just OCCASSIONALLY shut the other team down. Instead, you get 6 innings of giving up 4 or 5 runs, a complete inability to protect any lead he’s given, and depletion of your bullpen.
I would do anything to get this guy off our team. He does nothing to help, and he’s just a financial drain. If we do somehow make it to the playoffs, SURELY he doesn’t get to start. Although I am talking about the team that thought it was okay to play a guy batting .168 in centerfield through late July, so who knows.
