Cody Ross was taken off the trade block when Chris Coughlan ripped up his knee throwing a shaving cream pie. He’s no longer an option, or at least that’s what Marlins’ GM said a few days ago. Now, if Braves throw 5 minor leaguers at them, they’d probably change their minds… but personally I don’t think Ross is worth more than one good prospect or two mid-level ones. He’s just not an impact bat. Spilbourghs… I’d be more comfortable if he had proven himself as an everyday starter type guy. He’s always been part-timer and platooner.

Lollygager–still, he can play CF and has shown a decent bat when he’s played. He’s not perfect, but who out there is? Like I said, Wren wasn’t kidding.

Great. Now Venters isn’t getting suspended after Bobby was declared a genius for using him 2 innings the other night and then again? LOL.
In all seriousnous, that’s great news. Hope Bobby gives him a day off soon.
How frickin stupid do you think Ken Macha feels right about now? I actually think the umpires not tossing the Brewers pitcher (and Macha) the next day, played into it.
But what about Bobby? If Venters suspension was completely thrown out and the fine reduced. What “refund” do the Braves get on Bobby sitting out. His suspension should have been over-turned as well, right?
Maybe he’ll get a “get out of jail free” card, and can come out and completely get in an umpires face, get ejected (all for show of course) and then get to stay in the dugout.
I think Macha should have to sit out a game now, for being such a whiny little bitch over something that the league decided wasn’t that big of a deal.

JerseyGil, man I love Trout, he runs more than Crawford, but no way they trade him for 2 months of Troy Glaus. Anything the Braves get for Glaus won’t be expectacular, but the Angels need a 1B, and I want Freeman in Atlanta, so it fits.

yeah, I meant to qualify that Spillborghs statement… I wouldn’t be opposed to giving him a try, but I’d hate to see us give up too much in that deal. He’s the Colo. version of our Matt Diaz- he hits like wildfire in part-time role, but then maybe runs into trouble as every day guy. Wouldn’t give up more than one guy for him…

The Orioles trade OF/1B Luke Scott to the Braves for SS Mycal Jones and RHP Stephen Marek.
Scott isn’t a sexy name, like Dunn or Lilly or Houston’s Lance Berkman, but he’s as likely to help a new team as any of them are. After getting a late start in the majors, Scott has a career line of .267/.350/.504, spending half his six-year career in the brutal AL East. He’s having his best season since 2006, batting .283/.353/.558 while fighting nagging injuries. He’s a left-handed batter with a track record of hitting lefties, and perhaps best of all, he comes with a low price tag and isn’t a free agent until after 2011.
The Braves just demoted Nate McLouth, who’s having a disastrous season, and continue to fake their outfield situation, turning back to Melky Cabrera to man center field while using a rotation in left. Scott would help bolster that group while also providing, with Eric Hinske, alternatives to the sputtering Troy Glaus (four doubles, no homers in July) at first base. Scott’s disciplined approach at the plate fits a lineup loaded with veterans who know how to work the count.
The Orioles have a ton of nearly-ready starting pitching but little else. Jones, a 23-year-old shortstop, is raw (37 errors, 88 strikeouts in 95 games at two levels this season) with demonstrated skills. It’s an upside play for the Orioles, who also get back a reliever, in Marek, with a track record of minor-league success to upgrade the weakest part of their major-league roster.

Braves obviously made convincing case in hearing Tuesday, where team officials/coaches spoke and video was shown of other Venters errant tosses (to demonstrate that occasionally the kid just gets wild).

Efrim: I think it’s almost a certainty that Kawakami is traded and the Braves pick up part of the tab. Or they acquire a bad contract too, and it’s just a swap of those.
I could see KK being traded. I just think it might be a stretch to assume the Braves will send money in the deal. That rule right there is the only one yet to be squezed. The NTC was squezed with Javy, but paying a player to go away… We’ll see. I’m thinking a swap is more likely.

Why wouldn’t the Nationals do all this trades before the series against the Braves. No Mat Capps, and no Adam Dunn. Now the phillies will face them without Strasburg, without Dunn, and without Matt Capps. I hope at least Jackson gets to make a start against Philadelphia.

SCBravesFan, BravoMan – While the possibility of Freeman sharing time with Glaus may appeal to some, bringing him up to the majors will require clearing a spot on not only the 25-man roster but also the 40-man roster. Who would you drop? Surely not Conrad who is a force off the bench and with Chipper’s constant nagging injuries. Would you go with four outfielders, count Infante as your fifth outfielder, and waive Clevlen, I suspect? Maybe so. I’m just sayin’ it’s not as simple a process as some might wish.

My point is, it does not seem like it makes much sense. Frank Wren has acknowledged the problem is the outfield, yet if he really felt like he could fill it internally, why hasn’t he called whoever up right away?

The Haren trade netted very little for the D-backs because Haren is still owed two years on a $44 mil contract that had escalators. I am sure that the D-backs also had to eat a little money in the deal.

Translation:
Because I ineptly signed Lowe, KK, and Glaus, as well as traded for McLouth, I do not trust myself as a master MLB trader or moreso, signer of free agents. I am better at player development more than anything else, and I do not wish to be blamed for a “Teixeira II” debacle, given our team’s many needs: LF, CF, 1B, and either SS or 3B, since both are not hitting with any degree of consistency.
