Exactly right.

I do believe we’re seeing the “real” Braves right now. Win one, lose one, win one, lose two….

Sad, but it is what it is. Overachieved in May & June.

BravesFaninMD, I think CJ has huntin’ on the mind too. He’s always been laid back, but I’m shocked he seems as lathargic as he’s ever looked this year while his team has been in 1st for this long and it being his great manager’s final year. He has really lost his passion for the game it seems. Plus the fact this is probably his last season makes it even more strange on how bored he looks on the field.

If you say so BravesFan2010. Doesn’t change the fact that adding a player just to add a player doesn’t make the team better. In his tenure here Wren has been pretty aggressive and done his trade work under the radar. If there is a player that feels a need available, I’m sure Wren will go get him.

Thanks, glad to see someone can appreciate a level-headed approach to things here. I’m not trying to be personal or call anyone out… I’m simply observing and predicting that the same group that is raking Wren over the coals for his “inactivity” right now will be the very same group that praises him for the next big move and how we were smart to wait and not overpay. Like last year, too many holes for one trade to make a difference:

1B – Enough said.

3B – Chipper’s old, slow, inconsistent, & hurt.

LF – Diaz/Hinske – no power or consistency – not the answer.

CF – Cabrera/Blanco – no consistent hitting, speed, or power – not the answer.

Four positions that will not be filled by Saturday, but will affect the Braves negatively for the rest of the season.

C – McCann will tell you he is a better 5 than a cleanup.

2B – Now Prado thinks he has to do it all.

SS – we knew what we were getting with Gonzalez: glove, clubhouse upgrade, not much hitting/OBP.

RF – a Winner! who is staying within himself and performing admirably.

It’s pretty obvious by now that the Braves are going to pretty much live or die with the production (or lack thereof) from Prado, Glaus and Heyward, and getting unexpectedly good pitching from Hanson, Lowe and Medlen. Would another bat help? Of course, but it’s not going to solve all of the problems. Still too many holes to be a WS contender yet. Division or Wild Card maybe. But that’s about all. We just have to hope that thise team’s streakiness will turn itself around as it did from April and early May to mid-May thru the all-star break. One thought that I don’t remember seeing, but may have overlooked… wonder if David Ross has any 1B skills? He seems to have a couple of hits each time he’s in there, which is about once a week.

Some of you might not be mind readers, but I sure know what’s going to be said if they don’t get a hitter by the weekend:

“We feel our club as constructed is a playoff type team and one that can go far once we get there. We feel Glaus can get back to that hitter of May and that Diaz is providing a lot of spark in the lineup since his return. Heyward has also been impressive in his return from the DL. We also love our all around pitching.”

Danga

Heyward won’t be eligible for that kind of cash for 5 years if I understand this stuff correctly. By that time the Braves will have either a) locked him up to a long term team friendly deal or b) had plenty of time to plan their finances so that they are able to lock him up. Hopefully, Heyward becomes the next generation’s Chipper.

Just got more from Wren on standing pat at the deadline. It just keeps coming! Boy is this guy confident in this team:

“We feel with the way our two hitters at the top of our lineup have been getting on base that it’s only a matter of time before the middle of the order starts driving them in on a consistant basis. We feel Glaus can get back …..” oh, I already said that? “We feel with our depth on the bench that injuries are nearly the factor as it could be.”

I need to be one of those BS politicians, or just a lying ass GM of a pro sports teams.

BravesFan2010

July 29th, 2010
7:36 pm

There is just too much uncertainty surrounding this year’s team. Glaus is a big question mark. Heyward is great, but he’s a rookie so you can’t expect him to lead the team. Prado is having a career year, but how long will it last ? Lowe is getting older and not a very good pitcher anymore. Wagner is good, but he’s old and has struggled lately. Chipper is old and struggles defensively at times, and can’t hit like he used to. McCann is a good hitter but he’s not a very good defensive catcher. Hanson is good, but he struggles so much early in the game, and since he’s so young I worry about how well he would pitch in the playoffs with no playoff experience.

The only move the Braves need to make to keep up with or stay ahead of (like it will last) the Phillies is to drop kick Terry Pendleton’s @$$ out of town.

If there’s anybody in baseball who deserves to be fired, it’s not the Pirates’ manager, not the Astros’ or the Brewers’ or the Orioles’. It’s the Braves batting coach.

I’m sick of this bulls***. There is every reason in the world to get rid of him but the Braves sadly don’t carry themselves like a real business. A serious results oriented business would have fired him years ago. The Braves are like some hippy commune that just wants to make everybody feel good about themselves.

Does anybody seriously benefit from their boss kissing their @$$ all the time? If I’m Derek Lowe… well, if I was Derek Lowe I would quit effective immediately and refuse to accept any remaining money I’m owed by the team… I don’t get anything from Bobby telling reporters how well I pitched or what bad luck I had.

How is that constructive? The best teacher I ever had, I greatly disliked. He wasn’t a bad guy but he never patted me on the back or was particularly supportive in any way in a class that was required a great deal of out of classroom work. He absloutely got the best out of me because I wanted to prove him wrong and that I didn’t need his help. I really wish I had more experiences like that.

I’ve just never been the type of person to respond to the kind of excuse making Bobby Cox doles out on a daily basis. How does that make a player want to perform better when his manager will just end up covering for him if he F’s up?

To call Bobby old school is ridiculous. I’m surprised we don’t hear about him giving out little blue participation ribbons.

If the Braves were American Idol, he’d be Paula Abdul. We need a Simon Cowell.

And yes, I just said that.

Blame Liberty Media, as well as Frank Wren for two stupid signings – Lowe-tard and KK – and a moronic trdae for a mediocre bat – McLouth.
