If Wren does things internally then what he should do is this….
Let Glaus rest for a week and don’t start him. In the meantime play Hinske at 1B during that stretch (Hinske is heating back up) and only have Glaus come in for pinch hitting. By having days off Glaus can rest which can clear his mind and that should help him get going again. Then play the hot hand at any of the positions at any given time. If Chipper is struggling and Infante is hot, play Infante for an extended period of time. Have Diaz in the lineup everyday as long as he continues to hit.
However that seems less likely to happen, so a trade needs to happen to negate that.

Dawg ‘88: I totally agree. I am now of the mindset that the future may be now. Bring Freeman up and let him have fun at 1B. Bring Kimbrell and Minor too; put Minor in the rotation in September and make a six-man rotation, so veterans like Hudson and Lowe-tard can get an extra day of rest. Who knows??? The infusion of youthful enthusiasm may provide a spark. I am now declaring The ATL a “No Trade Zone” until December/January, where better trades can be made.

Have the naysayers and stat-quoters looked at Oswalt’s numbers at Citizen’s Bank Ballpark and the other bandbox known as Minute Maid? Just asking. (instead of quoting head to head stats like we’re friggin’ football teams)
The LA Dodgers problem is for real. ESPN the magazine did an article on how they’d probably sell off all their young talent because of this nasty divorce. Hard to believe but true.
Whomever said they didn’t feel the Braves have played as well as they can this year… You have to be kidding me??? The Braves have overachieved with this lineup.
Mr. Wren has 2 days to make a move. Is the deadline still 4PM?

How you figure that? Astros are sending 11 mil to the Phils to pay part of Oswalts salary. Hap is 28 years old and coming off arm problems. No huge expense sending prospects.
Phils get Oswalt and still keep Werth due to the terms of the deal with Houston paying much of the freight.
Braves won’t trade any prospects so they won’t get any help.

At least we have a bunch of minor leaguers, who may contribute dome day. Isn’t that the point of baseball, to collect as many good prospects as possible, and hope they pan out??

Hanson is a keeper, UNLESS they it is swap 1-1 deal. BUt still we have Hanson controlled for almost 5 more years. The kid has his struggles in the first 2 innings, but after that he is unhittable

Actually, the Braves have actually fared well against Oswalt. He’s 0-3 with a 7.58 ERA in seven regular season starts against the Braves for his career, his highest career ERA against any team.

The Braves used to always be in the top 2 or 3 teams in payroll in baseball, during most of the 90s and early part of the 2000’s. The Braves have to stop being so cheap.

Here is where MLB has waited to suspend Venters. Probably give him 3 games (all while we are in Cincy). Boy did Selig pan this out great. He looks decent because he reduces a game, yet hurts Braves most, when they are losing the division and in a hitter friendly ballpark against a first place team. Selig bent the Braves over!!! Of course I am just speculating.

Finally figured all this out…
Frank is freaking out because Mississippi has lost 3 in a row and Teheran had his doors blown off last night.
Much more important than improving the big club. I may be one of the few around here who likes Major League Baseball.

Yeah, Hanson’s “unhittable” after the first few innings. Trouble is, it’s 5-0 by then and this anemic offense is rarely going to overcome that kind of deficit.
He’s Bush league until he rectifies that problem.

Where is Dave O’Brien ? I don’t care for this new person too much.
Braves need to get another quality bat in the outfield now. I would go for Jose Bautista, since we have already made a trade with Toronto they have a list of players they want, make the move. He can play third base to, so if Chipper retires? Bautista, could move to third. He played in the National league for 3 1/2 years, so he knows the pitching. He would be a good choice, adds power has a high OBP going this year. Thoughts anyone?

I understand you cannot as a GM make a panic trade. The guy needs to be smart about who he trades, the salary he’s going to be taking on, etc. Sometimes I think that our GM is one of those that works hard to pull one over on another GM rather than just going for it, though. Just the way I see it from my view.
They already wrote the other day what Wren said and that he’s pretty much hung up on GM’s asking for their asking prices. I like him looking out for the future of our team and all, but I hope he doesn’t shoot his own foot this time by being too timid.

Time for a reality check folks. The Braves team we just watched over the last week is the Braves team most of us expected to see…. they lost both series. We’re in first place only because we got extremely hot while the Mets and Phillies struggled mightily…. it can’t last with this level of talent. Yea, the pitching is solid (but Lowe, Hanson, and Medlen are all inconsistent now) but we’ve been riding Prado all year, Heyward got hot but now looks like the rookie he is, Chipper is thinking about Huntin’ during the game, Glaus is the mediocre player we expected to get, and well… this is the result. I’m not giving up on them, just trying to be realistic. I agree with those that say bring Freeman up now… might give them the spark that they need. To me two big mistakes were made:
1 — Moving Medlen to the bullpen after the all-star break… he was on a roll and that just screwed him up;
2 — Giving McClouth another chance that he DID NOT deserve, while sending Blanco down yet again. Let’s keep in mind that if KJ had stayed decent Prado would still be riding the bench. Blanco proved he could play, yet they sent him down. Dumb.

Make, I’m not sure about how valuable Bautista would be in the future. He would be great for this year because he’s having such a good year, but he doesn’t really have a proven track record. He probably won’t ever have as good of a year as he’s having this year.

Seriously, when you go shopping for a car- do you buy the first one you see for the exact price you see on the sticker? No, you don’t (at least, I hope most of you don’t). You shop around and see which dealership is willing to come down on its price. Same thing’s going on here.

All this trading going on with the Phills and rumors going around is probably pumping those players up even more. We’ve been struggling a little, so they can probably smell it. Especially Howard with that big ass nose … he can smell food cooking 200 miles away.
Oswalt doesn’t worry me. If they get Bautista? I’ll be worried. Playing in that little park in that lineup and they could run away with the division again.

I, for one, am quite thrilled Wren didn’t jump at the chance to add Cantu, Tejada, or Podsednik. Sometimes doing nothing is the right move. We’ll see if a piece becomes available that can actually make the team better.
