Bravo O.J . for the dude to call me a bandwagoner. hello 7.5 games up last week and where are we now 2.5 . wouldnt that sound an lets get with it alarm. obviously not with this braves team. just another day in the park, and the Phillies winning and goin for 8 in a row. wow. you guys are stupid to believe the way we are playing right now that lead will be gone by the weekend. we play the reds and the phillies will feast on this team. Alarm time folks. 9 and 15 in nationals park against one of the worst teams in MLB history.
Fudge monkeys. Lets hope that the trend reverses – we’ve lost 2 series to two of the worst teams in our division. Maybe we can play better against a team who is having a pretty good year in another division. Seems to be the way the Braves do things sometimes – playing to the level of the competition. How many times did we see that last year?
Okay, signing off to get some work done. See you tomorrow.
I think at this point Wren has to make a big splash with a trade. If for nothing else than to send a message to us fans that says they are serious about making the playoffs. I figured they would have another slump at some point this year, but nothing like this. It is starting to get scary. The Phillies are going to go into their game tonight pumped out and demolish the D’Backs. Something needs to happen, and fact.
Really bad pitching today in terms of giving the two runs right back by Lowe (kills momentum), and then Saito giving up the long ball to Dunn (kills any comeback hopes).
Oh, and everyone. Please don’t show your lack of baseball knowledge by laying this present state of affairs at the feet of Nate McLouth, a position that has batted in front of the pitcher all season long! For three months, the Braves were getting by on good-to-great pitching, great bullpen, and just enough runs to stave off losses – in that order. Now, the luck ran out Saturday night with Conrad’s slam. Conrad’s slam against Cincy started this run, and his slam against the Marlins ended this fortunate run.
Now, the truth comes out. Power and pitching wins Aug. and Sept. baseball games. Let’s see what the Braves do by Saturday the 31st.

Ok bloggers, why weren’t that many people questioning the logic of Frank Wren when he said the Braves thought they could address the CF situation in house?
Ain’t no successful, in house, answer to this pathetic offense.
So as Bobby says, it’s about winning series. If you win series, then no worries.
Well the Braves just lost 2 series in a row and the Phillies are streaking.
If the Saturday deadline comes and goes and the Braves don’t make a significant move to improve the outfield, then they are just telling the fans they aren’t serious about winning this year.
Wow, back to back series lost against the NL East. Not a good run, but I have to think that this game was lost with Lowe’s decision to pitch to the 8th hole hitter with a base open and the pitcher on deck and one out.
With a team struggling to score runs, after just tying up the game, your $15MM a year pitcher has to execute better.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO to this God awful offense, to Derek “The Thief” Lowe and to all the Braves players that need to get their head out their asses!
Wren had better get his team a hitter or they could do a serious nosedive right in font of his smilin face! They look to be doing exactly that already.
Let me know when we make a trade so I can watch again. If these last 6 games don’t show Wren that we need a BIG STICK, I don’t know what will. Lost 2 straight series, no clutch hitting…. UGH!!
If the Saturday deadline comes and goes and the Braves don’t make a significant move to improve the outfield, then they are just telling the fans they aren’t serious about winning this year.
Or, you know, it could be something silly like there wasn’t much out there to improve the team.
as long as you keep trotting Lowe out there and continue to bat Glaus in the #4 or #5 spot, the lead is just gonna keep shrinking. these guys are in crucial spots for this team and they are not delivering at all.
I’ve got an idea. You naysayers go be Phil fans, and then we poor, deluded optimistic Braves fans (who are still leading the league) will be happpy too.
IF Wren really believes we will win the east with such inconsistent hitters, well, good luck…Watch what will happen when the Phillies come to washington (without Victorino and Utley) this weekend.
so we lose 2 of 3 to the fish…..not life or death…..but then lose 2 of 3 to the Nats……and loos TERRIBLE in doing so! We better wake up fast or these damn Phillies are going to blow right past us. Especially when there playing S*** teams!
PLEASEEEE win the Red’s series!!! I have a bet with an annoying reds fan who thinks just because they are having one decent season they are the best team ever!
I love how everyone wants a trade but doesn’t want to give up prospects. Just keep playing for the future and you will never ever win in the present. The goal is to win it all. Look at the Blackhawks. They hinged it all on one season and got it done. Now they will regroup for two years and get another one. It is the way that you do it nowadays.
Them’s the breaks, kiddies. A wise man once told me, “some days you’re the windshield, some days you’re the bug.” We’ll see if we can get some new windshield wipers on July 31.
2.5 back and tomm will be 1.5. this team sucks right now. welcome back april and beginning of may.. and Jay Yes capps just closed out the braves twice .. we scored a total of 6 runs in 3 games off this nationals pitching staff. pretty sad.. 2-4 on the road so far and about to get swept or lose the series again to the Hot Reds. Votto Philipps and company are waiting..
Adam Dunn just showed you today in the eighth inning the value of a LEGIT #4. With one swing of the bat, you turn a tight 4-3 lead into a better 5-3 lead going into the ninth. THAT’S what the Braves have been missing from their regular lineup, and will miss dearly in the next month.
That little anecdote you mentioned earlier about stringing hits together? Cute stuff.
Playoff teams, as a rule, win with power – and guys you depend on to drive in runs in bunches. Don’t let the anomalies of baseball rule common sense. Wren did the team a lovely when he took a flyer on Glaus.
Stack Troy along the tinder that was Garrett Anderson and Raul Mondesi, please.
Wren is more than likely nit picking and balking at any offers he’s had to this point concerning trades. He’d better realize that this team needs a masher in their lineup and quit trying to be slick and sly with a trade, trying to pull one over on anither GM. Not saying that’s what he’s doing, none of us obviously know exactly, but he seems really, really timid when it comes to trades.
This team just plain sucks on the road. Legitimate playoff teams do not lose 2/3 to the Nationals.period
Embarrassing. Unacceptable to lose 4 out of 6 to Florida and Washington.
Again with the southern college football fan mentality… The Braves don’t drop in the rankings by losing to lesser teams, folks. In baseball, the standings go by overall win-loss record. Got it?
I’m pretty sure plenty of legitimate playoff teams have lost 4 out of 6 to teams as bad or worse than the 2010 Marlins and 2010 Nationals. If you don’t realize this, you may want to consider another sport because you’ll never grasp baseball.
I seem to remember another NL East team about a month ago winning a bunch of games in a row and getting within 0.5 games. Obviously they should be leading by now, right?
MiaBchBravesFan, yeah. Glaus did nothing to put the team where it is now (still in first place, by the way, for all of you who apparently can’t find the standings online).
@ Brian from SC, I agree with you, I just don’t think that there is much out there that will truly address the Braves needs. People are talking Bautista, but come on, really? Willingham, solid ball player, but the difference needed to win a World Series? Don’t think so. And the list goes on. The Braves have come this far playing as a 25 man, all hands on deck roster, and I think that’s the only way they’re going to compete going forward win or lose.
Nobody picked the Braves to be in first place this late in the year, and despite their rough patch, and the Phillies going well, it’s still going to take three more losses by the Braves to unseat them.
I’m guessing that Frank Wren still thinks we can win it all with the team as it is. I love what Glaus has done for the team, but he’s not superman. Neither is Chipper anymore. McCann plays the physically exhausting position of catcher.
Our infield seems soild and can produce what they are expected to – only that numbers have to be adjusted for age, but still ok – Meanwhile, with the exception of J-Hey, what do we have in our outfield?
Moving Heyward to CF does not bother me in the least, but who to put in LF and RF that can hit with power against both lefties and righties?
C’mon Frank – please do your job! Get us the outfielder that we have needed for years.
tristan, I hope you’re kidding about Lowe. He’s a piece of sh** is exactly what he is. He knows how to pitch, he’s just fat and probably isn’t taking his ADD medicine. They give him a lead and he chokes it away the very next inning.
HA, that’s the trend with this big goof …. give him some runs and he’ll be dammed if he’s gonna hold on to them. I really, really, really, dislike that man. He’s a complete waste of money if I’ve ever seen it.
Nicely done Braves! Just what the goofy Phillies needed, more momentum. They pickup a top of the rotation guy the same day that the Braves look like they couldn’t care less. What happened to the fire and intensity????
Much more baseball to go. As much as a 7 game lead reminds us of the 1990s, it’s not the 90s. The two-time national league World Series representative Phillies are going to make a run of this, but the Braves are too. But, we have an excellent bench, good pitching, and mostly a solid starting lineup. Though, a power hitter sure would be nice. I don’t know what the answer is to playing the Nationals. Looked like the Nats were the banner on top of their flagpole this series, rather than on the bottom.
Shaun: with all due respect, if you consider 4 weeks OUT OF AN ENTIRE SEASON TO DATE of productivity worthy of your regard for Glaus, then you are certainly a better fan than I, my friend.
Check the splits. Three weeks in May, one in June. The rest of the season?
: Agreed. Like Wallace more, but adding Gose may also mean Toronto believes they are dealing Bautista soon, or planning for their long-term future without Vernon Wells.
I think Wren knows he’ll need to make a deal. With today’s loss, I think it’s putting it into perspective for him. It’s Bobby’s last year, I doubt nothing will be done to increase the chances for his last year.
“You really should shut up about Lowe. He has ten wins. How many does Oswalt have?”
looking at the number I’d easily take Oswalt over Lowe.
Oswalt has a better ERA than Lowe (almost the same number of innings pitched), given up fewer hits, earned runs, fewer walks, more strikeouts.
I’m tired of hearing Adam Dunn can’t play defense ! Go get the damn man if he is available ! Give them Medlen ! And if the Rockies are sellers, Go get Dexter Flowler ! Give it to them, whatever they want !!
the reason this is so much more of an uphill battle for the Braves now is because our team was constructed in such a way that all cylinders have to be clicking for it to work. today was a great example – we got a few runs, but if you have a clueless pitcher like Lowe out there, it’s over.
the Phillies don’t have that problem – their offense is solid and getting better, and they now have arguably the best 1-2-3 starting pitchers in baseball. if their offense blows it, their pitching probably makes up for it, or vice versa.
the Braves don’t have that luxury. pitching and offense have to come through every night to a certain level, and right now it’s not happening. in May and June they were finding ways to win… now it feels like they are finding ways to lose.
bottom line is that a lot less has to go wrong for the Braves for them to start losing than it does for the Phillies. their team is just more well built than ours, partially because they have such deep pockets. it sucks, but it’s the truth.

Oswalt has a better ERA than Lowe (almost the same number of innings pitched), given up fewer hits, earned runs, fewer walks, more strikeouts.

the reason this is so much more of an uphill battle for the Braves now is because our team was constructed in such a way that all cylinders have to be clicking for it to work. today was a great example – we got a few runs, but if you have a clueless pitcher like Lowe out there, it’s over.
the Phillies don’t have that problem – their offense is solid and getting better, and they now have arguably the best 1-2-3 starting pitchers in baseball. if their offense blows it, their pitching probably makes up for it, or vice versa.
the Braves don’t have that luxury. pitching and offense have to come through every night to a certain level, and right now it’s not happening. in May and June they were finding ways to win… now it feels like they are finding ways to lose.
bottom line is that a lot less has to go wrong for the Braves for them to start losing than it does for the Phillies. their team is just more well built than ours, partially because they have such deep pockets. it sucks, but it’s the truth.
