Only Marteen, Hudson, Wagner are having true all-star seasons and should be the 3 Braves in the game. McCann is solid, but not a great season. The NL lacks in the catcher category so he goes. Heyward was an all-star for the first 6 weeks, but really dropped off. Glaus is very good, but way too many first baseman with stronger numbers. Nice honor for Omar, but a guy like Joey Votto must be shaking his head
July 4th, 20102:01 pm
July 4th, 20102:02 pm
GREAT!! Glaus deserves to be on the team too. 30-24

July 4th, 20102:10 pm
David, get a hold of Infante yet? Does he have any quotes on his selection?
I’m very happy for Infante. I believe he can contribute in the All-Star game. Bring him off the bench when you have runners in scoring position, and he can help the NL’s chances of winning this thing.
July 4th, 20102:12 pm
Heyward as an all star, really. The Braves are going to push so hard for this kid to be the next face of the franchise, like they did with Francouer. I hope he doesn’t end up having to go to another team to get a way from the undeserving pressure put on him by the Braves horrible marketing like Francouer! The Braves want a new face to replace Chipper so bad they are bringing kids up to fast it is almost a disgrace. I agree with TC from CA.
July 4th, 20102:14 pm
Heyward should NOT be an All-Star. He’s hitting .250. Not sure how in the world he was voted as a starter. And Braves fans, I know you want Wagner on the team, but vote for someone more deserving. Vote Joey Votto. He actually is having just as good of a season as Pujols and very will could win the MVP this year.
July 4th, 20102:15 pm
The braves do not need to make any trades!
July 4th, 20102:16 pm
Why the players voted Adrian Gonzalez as a reserve at 1st base is beyond me. Votto leads him in just about every single offensive category.
July 4th, 20102:19 pm
Infante!!! Seriously!!! Get it, O
July 4th, 20102:21 pm
we have the dumbest fans… wanting to vote for the other team to give our players “rest”… how bout we reward our hometown guys, especially in their last season, of a HOF career
July 4th, 20102:23 pm
Votto can pitch?
Matt the Brave
I’d love to see Glaus on the team, but 1B is one of the deepest positions in the NL. It’s not really that he wasn’t deserving to be on there, it’s just that Manuel has a lot of options. I’d rather Glaus rest his cranky knees over the All-Star break anyway!
July 4th, 20102:24 pm
Couldn’t help but notice the two Rangers that we once had on All Star Roster. Bad Trade for sure.
July 4th, 20102:26 pm
Dumb Fans, how about we vote for the most deserving player, regardless of what team they’re on.
Heward has been hurt TG since the thumb injury.
July 4th, 20102:27 pm
GLAUS GOT ROBBED. HE’S BEEN CARRYING THIS TEAM(BESIDES PRADO) I WONDER IF HE’S ONE OF THE REMAINING PLAYERS THAT CAN BE VOTED?
The only 3 players for the Braves who deserve to be on the team are Prado, Wagner, and Hudson.
Glaus did not get robbed. He’s just at a position where there are a LOT of players having a good year.
bowilly, Braves did get one of the all time great power switch hitters for 2 seasons. Just because team didn’t win WS doesn’t mean it was a “bad trade.”
July 4th, 20102:31 pm
Im betting that Wagner just wants to go home for the Allstar break
Braves need to trade for an OF BAT in a hurry…
July 4th, 20102:32 pm
I believe Wagner should be in the All-Star game but I just can’t vote for him over Joey Votto, who’s having an All-Star caliber year.
July 4th, 20102:33 pm
an MVP caliber year i meant to say
July 4th, 20102:38 pm
very excited to see so many braves make the team! Wouldve been nice for glaus to make it, had he been a little hotter heading into break he may have had a better chance. But still excited for all others, ESPECIALLY prado!!
July 4th, 20102:44 pm
Agree on the Rangers comments…Feliz (AL Leader in saves at 21yrs old) and Andrus (unbelievable SS at 21yrs old) really stings. These two guys are big reasons why the Rangers have one of the best records in baseball. They will b fixtures on the All-Star team for the next decade! Thank goodness Salty did not pan out or this trade would be one of the most lopsided in baseball history. Would give anything to have these two guys back. If you have not watched them play for the Rangers, watch the All-Star game and see what I am talking about.
July 4th, 20102:54 pm
So Heyward’s .250 average doesn’t deserve a spot, but Molina and his average in the .230s does. That’s just the way the system goes when it’s a fan vote. It’s not the most deserving that get in, it’s the most popular and the guys from the big-market teams.
Coach (2011 or Bust)
Yes Sir, Elvis Andrus is gonna be a gold glove SS for many more years to come. As for Feliz, the kid has an electric arm and Salty may yet pan out.
As for our Bravos, five all-Stars is outstanding and Billy Wagner deserves to join them. That said, this team is good enough to make the post season as is. Add another bat and they will be a lock to win the division, and I never thought that I would ever make such a statement about the 2010 Braves. They have exceeded my expectations to date.
July 4th, 20102:56 pm
We should just be happy that our team has one of the best records in baseball at the break and that the fan vote (Heyward), player vote (McCann and Prado), and NL manager vote (Hudson and Infante) recognizes what’s going on in Atlanta.
July 4th, 20102:58 pm
DOB – How does Broxton (LA) make it before Wagner … the Dodgers already had a player make it (Ethier) and so Broxton wasn’t necessary to give each team a representative. Wagner’s numbers are substantially more impressive across the board and it really would have been a story book ending if the Braves can’t talk him out of retirement. Can you explain what Manuel’s thought process must have been?
Mr. Turnip-Green Jeans
Love the Infante pick. Took lots of guts for Charlie Manuel to make that call. He went with what he’d seen of Omar. Have a whole new level of respect for Manuel.
July 4th, 20103:01 pm
I am glad that the Braves will be well represented in the All-Star Game but Omar Infante making the team is an embarrassment. He is not an All-Star this year and does not deserve to be going.. How can you take a non starter over Votto 19 hr and 57 RBI? I am not a Kelly Johnson fan at all but he deserves it more than Inanfte… I am a Braves fan through the thick and thing but thats just my take.
July 4th, 20103:03 pm
Troy just picked the wrong time to cool-off.
July 4th, 20103:04 pm
David, one thing forgotten, is Bobby Cox going to be on the coaching staff to celebrate his retirement?
July 4th, 20103:21 pm
great job omar! congrats huddy! 45-42
July 4th, 20103:22 pm
Can some of you stop whining about the Braves having too many all stars? In previous years we never were able to get in our deserved players because of poor attendance and general apathy. You should be happy for your hometown team. I can’t believe some of you are Braves fans.
Braves Fan Since "80
July 4th, 20103:31 pm
Infante should be the third baseman for the Braves…. Chipper is Kelly Johnson-like these days
July 4th, 20103:35 pm
Chipper is a hell of alot better than Kelly Johnson!
July 4th, 20103:38 pm
I’m sad Wagner was overlooked. Another All-Star selection might’ve helped solidify his HOF status…
Ofante should be the starting shortstop for us he is much better defensively and hitting than Escobar- Typical Bobby Cox that’s why this is his last year. He did the same thing with Prado last year until Kelly Johnson kept batting like 190 and almost did the same thing this year with Nate Mclouth alternating every game eventhough he was batting 175 and Melky Cabrera was hot and just as good of a cf- It took Nate almost killing Jason Heyward in a collision to get him out of the lineup. I am tired of Bobby Cox getting credit for Troy Glaus- There was no option for Bobby and he had no choice he had to ride him out until at least the All Star break since Frank Wren had signed him for first base. They had to evaluate him before they chunked him to the bench. Bobby is horrible= Bobby can’t make adjustments when things go south and mark my word come playoff time or a key game he will lose it for us by his management decisions like he did against the Dodgers this year and for example keeping Tommy Hansen in the game for 3 innings against the white sox and letting them rack up 13 hits and 9 runs – Every body could see that he just didn’t have it that day we would have had a chance if Bobby wasn’t worried about hurting somebodies feelings and put in the bullpen- They were teeing off on him and it was almost too painful to watch. I am proud of the Braves but this has more to do with Frank Wren’s moves than Bobby Cox’s managing. Freddy Gonzalez would have Omar Infante playing every day and Escobar would be sitting the bench and Nate Mclouth would have to be pouting on the bench. I can’t wait to see a manager that rewards players for the good performance instead of playing favorits. Go Braves!
July 4th, 20103:41 pm
DOB, do you have a word count requirement — just asking due to the repeats at the end about J-Hey’s injury.
Omar shouldn’t be there. What a joke. I have a lot less respect for Manuel now.
July 4th, 20103:44 pm
While remembering AL All-Stars who were traded away, a trade for which Atlanta now has nothing to show, don’t forget Adam Wainwright, who is a Cardinal’s ace today courtesy of the J.D. Drew trade.
July 4th, 20103:47 pm
Infante is just like Omar was last year a star who needs to be put in the starting lineup and Manuel recognizes it by his performance against him and others. He has more respect for him than Bobby. Dave is the first time a utility/bench player has been put on an all star team? If so, this is more of an indictment of Bobby Cox’s management skills- How do you justify keeping a guy on the bench that is batting almost 70 percentage pts higher than your starting short stop? Its not like he can justify it and say that Escobar is some defensive gem or a base threat. Its just ridiculous that he doesn’t reward the guys that are busting it for him.
July 4th, 20103:48 pm
Meant like Prado was last year..
July 4th, 20103:56 pm
One final All-Star spot available for fans to vote in online. Vote at often as you like for Billy Wagner here: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2010/fv/ballot.html
July 4th, 20103:57 pm
BravesFan73, you started out well and digressed when you rationalized that Saltalamacchia’s performance to date takes some edge off the Teixeira trade. Keep in mind that Saltalamacchia is still young and may well develop into a solid player. Same for Harrison.
The Teixeira trade ranks as one of the truly dumbest moves in the history of the Braves. If you could check back on these forums you would find that I pointly condemned the trade before it was finalized. I was roundly criticized and vilified by most other posters.
I now find that many are realizing the level of incompetence exhibited by management in making the trade. Hindsight is usually 20/20. Fools have hindsight.
By the way, I could make the same post in regard to the Drew trade. Anyone who didn’t see the longterm damage of that trade, IN ADVANCE, has little knowledge of baseball talent. Of course, he is a good fair-weather cheerleader.
So, Am I being crass enough to say I told you so long age? Bet on it.
July 4th, 20103:59 pm
Amazing. Infante makes the All Star game and deservedly so, but is not in the lineup today. Diaz in LF. Come on Bobby. There is still time for Bobby and Wrenn to blow it and they are working on it. Really expect Blanco to be sent to the minors as soon as McLouse comes back. Money invested, you know. Never mind who is gettting the job done.
July 4th, 20104:00 pm
Infante the beneficiary of Selig’s decision to expand rosters – waters down the talent, but what the hell?
Wagner is deserving and is one of the players on the ballot to be voted on by the fans as the “last man in” – so start voting for WAGS!!!
July 4th, 20104:08 pm
For the people saying it is a joke for Infante to be on the team, there is a good reason he is. This year there is a designated ‘utility player’ spot up for grabs, and wouldn’t you say he is the best utility player in the NL? Votto isn’t a utility player. Thats like complaining Troy Glaus didn’t make it when David Wright did.
July 4th, 20104:11 pm
buckhead benny sounds like you have a case of the sour grapes or something…
escobar has a track record, he isnt going to improve by benching him… omar is a great super sub (and thats one reason he was picked with the new one player may re-enter the game thing… he plays lf, cf, 3b, ss, 2b, and in a pinch c) and while he has always played well, i dont think you can blindly say stick him in the starting lineup and that would contuine… look at diaz who is a good player in a platoon or every spot start, but who cools off drastically when hes starting everyday (or look at how hinske has cooled off recently)…. some players are just super utility guys… and why doesnt he deserve an all star game nod for doing his role the best in baseball… it took guts for manuel to name him and i think it shows the nl is playing to win this year… and benny saying cox shouldnt have left hanson in for a 3 inning stint in the stupidiest more short sighted thing ive heard in a long time… first you never know whats going to happen after a bad inning or two, but secondly you cant just throw your bullpen out there willy nilly in the 2nd inning… else you’ve tired them out for days and then you affect other games… you’ve got to try to get some innings from the starter or your bullpen is going to be exhausted by the end of the yr…. cox cant win for losing in that argument because if he put in the bullpen yall would be complaining about how he over works the bullpen and by the end of the yr they are worn down…. cox is a hall of fame manager for a reason… let him do his job and just sit back and enjoy the team that is one of the best in the league this year
wow, Infante?? Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited about it, I just never saw him as an All Star
July 4th, 20104:17 pm
GREAT NEWS for deserving Braves. I have a question though, why was the call-up of Donnie Murphy listed as a story this week? For a minute I thought he was related to Dale since it got so much pub. Who is this guy and why did a minor league call-up from a division rival make the AJC??
July 4th, 20104:30 pm
It’s obvious that Omar Infante made quite a good impression on Phillies manager Charlie Manuel this season. It looks like Charlie is going to have the big O in Anaheim very soon. I think Anaheim is near Chatsworth, right?
Never thought I would be writing this...
July 4th, 20104:32 pm
Will Charlie Manuel select Bobby Cox as one of his coaches? It certainly is an honor he deserves in his swan-song year.
July 4th, 20104:40 pm
Braves are in first place by 3 games, have 5 players selected to the All-Star game–and some fans, who know a lot less about baseball than they think they do, can’t find anything to do but complain about the job Bobby Cox is doing. For godsakes . . .
Yes Infante deserves to be in the All Star Game because he is the best utility postition player around which is one of the slots on the roster. Wags deserves it but can’t vote him in over Votto.
July 4th, 20104:41 pm
Oh come on!! Omar Infante!?!? Thats the most rediculous thing I’ve ever seen!! How can you leave a guy like Mat Latos of the team, but put OI on it?? And you’ve got the Padres, with the best record in the NL, only having 1 player on the team?!?!
July 4th, 20104:43 pm
Latos, Bell, and especially Votto absolutely should be there!
July 4th, 20104:46 pm
McCann also should have been left off this year. I know the NL is short on quality catchers, but he’s hitting what? .255??
July 4th, 20104:51 pm
guys GET OFF THE NUMBERS!!!!
McCann IS AN ALLSTAR because you can’t name anyone better than him IN THE NATIONAL LEAGUE AT CATCHER
Do you guys understand that?
The 2 BEST catchers in baseball are Mauer and McCann AND McCANN WAS VOTED IN BY HIS PEERS! That says all you need to know
I think the selcetion of someone as versitile and gritty as OMAR is a direct reflection of Charlie Manuel trying to seriously win the game, plain and simple! So good for Infante
July 4th, 20105:11 pm
Oh come on!! Omar Infante!?!? Thats the most rediculous thing I’ve ever seen!! How can you leave a guy like Mat Latos of the team, but put OI on it?? And you’ve got the Padres, with the best record in the NL, only having 1 player on the team?!?!? – padres fan

July 4th, 20105:49 pm
Infante is the one pick that is causing the most consternation of the ten Manuel made…I guess Omar has not had enough at-bats to impress the masses…and, I guess that people will have to get used to guys flying in under the radar–bottom line for me is I am happy for Omar.
July 4th, 20106:11 pm
I BELIEVE BOBBY COX WAS ASK TO COACH THE ALLSTAR ,BUT HE DECLINED
Arthur Blank (i owns the falcoons)
July 4th, 20106:33 pm
Did anyone see Martin Prado’s HOT sister in the stands Saturday. WOW!!!
July 4th, 20107:43 pm
I hear so much crap about Omar, but where is the outrage for Yadier Molina? Miguel Olivo isn’t even on the last five ballot and his numbers smoke Yadier and Mac’s. Just saying, Olivo has a much bigger gripe than Votto.
July 4th, 20107:51 pm
guys GET OFF THE NUMBERS!!!!
McCann IS AN ALLSTAR because you can’t name anyone better than him IN THE NATIONAL LEAGUE AT CATCHER”
What about Miguel Olivo? My beef is more with Yadier than Mac. Pudge, Soto, Doumit, and even Paulino would have been better picks than Yadier.
July 4th, 20108:26 pm
Will somebody explain to Cox that the JV line-up just doesn’t work?? Heyward out and he sits Glaus and Chipper? Pathetic
July 4th, 20108:54 pm
Bravesfan2010 gives the best jobs!!!
July 4th, 20108:55 pm
DOnt take your guns to town son, leave your guns at home….in the oven!! Heres your sign!!!!!!!!!!!
July 4th, 20108:58 pm
Agree that Cox shouldn’t have sat Chipper and Infante. Glaus was not ready to go. Cortisone shot. May be ready tomorrow night.
July 4th, 20109:45 pm
i know i catch it for calling this blog the idiots blog but theres just no other name that applys lolfinnaly though somone is bringing up that maybe mr wren might not have the market cornered on bad moves and yes i know elvis andrus was never going to play for us over esco ohhh reallyyy??? i guess we dont need a defensive gem who steals 2 0some bases in half a season and is out hitting our current sss who by the way not being a racist udiot i happen to love and yes i know 21yo relivers throwning regualarly in the 102,103 range are a dime a dozen and if you belive that crock you also believe atthe ajc company line about js being a baseball geniusohh man dont make me bring up david cone for ed hearn again lol
July 4th, 201010:07 pm
I’m happy for both Infante and Prado, they deserve it.
What about Troy Glaus? Is he going to be this year’s snub?
July 4th, 201011:11 pm
Surprised that the Braves had 5 All-stars. Oh well. Also surprised that Chipper was not one of them. Hope this years All-Star games is a great one.
July 4th, 201011:25 pm
Why doesn’t anyone see what the Infante pick really is…legal tampering on the part of Manuel. In other words, Manuel is letting Omar know that he would be an everyday player for his team, even though Omar cannot crack the Sunday afternoon Cox JV lineup. A player gets labeled as a “utility” guy if he is not considered a major prospect coming through the minors. Cox wasted a year of Prado’s career because Prado was a “utility” guy and Kelly Johnson was a suppossed top talent. Cox is not a genius.
July 4th, 201011:29 pm
I hope Omar surprises everyone and gets the clutch hit that wins the game for the National League! Go Omar—you deserve this honor!!!
Walker, Texas Ranger
July 5th, 201012:23 am
Where are the “experts” that were talking about Elvis wasn’t as good as Yunel. This is the worst trade ever. This just officially passed the Len Barker deal.
July 5th, 201012:26 am
Omar Infante’s trade value just went up big…
Walker, Texas Ra
July 5th, 201012:27 am
@ Siskel, agree McCann better than the rest. Too bad he won’t play till the 9th if at all
July 5th, 201012:29 am
McCann was voted in by the players….Omar was chosen by manuel…..Bruce Botchy and Bud Black are the NL Coaches for the All-Star game…Prado was chosen by the players…so call braves fans are whiners…Yes, Glaus deserves the nod for the all star game…Wagner has a chance this week from the fans voting….I’m happy to see 5 braves make the all-star team since 2003(103 wins that year); Bobby Cox is one the greatest managers this game has ever seen….LaRussa manage his wins with 3 clubs…Torre 4 clubs..but Cox 2 clubs but more consistently with the braves he has made a major mark on BASEBALL. Regular season DYNASTY(14 straight Division Championships) but people forget; the BRAVES was a NATIONAL LEAGUE DYNASTY(5 National League Championships)….Cox could have won more titles namely ‘96….but we certainly can’t fault COX for Lonnie Smith base running BLUNDER in the ‘91 WS, or the Devon White Catch in the ‘92 WS that turned into a double play….or even getting swept in the ‘99 WS.
July 5th, 201012:32 am
July 5th, 201012:51 am
I’m very happy for Omar Infante and I think chances are great that he’ll produce a key hit to finally break NL’s losing streak. However, I’m just shocked that Votto and Zimmerman are not on the team. Votto is a lot more worthy than Howard (or even Adrian Gonzalez) while Zimmerman is more deserving than David Wright.
I’m still voting for Billy Wagner, however, especially since this is going to be his final year.
July 5th, 201012:52 am
Just need four more Braves and you can have an entire Braves team, lol. Then we can show the American League who is boss.
July 5th, 20101:22 am
Elvis Andrus Pedro Feliz blah blah blah. Mark Teixiera won a World Series last year, and probably has another 1 or 2 in his future. I’m OK with the Braves current SS and closer, who has 52 L, 19 H and a 1.35 ERA in 33.1 innings, and also leads all NL closers in WHIP and opponents OPS. And Craig Kimbrel, our closer next year, has 43 K, 14 H, and a 0.95 ERA in 28.1 innings at Gwinnett. I think we’ll be OK in that department. And amidst all this talk of “the worst trade ever,” does anyone stop to think that the Braves were 15 games over .500 at the halfway point of the season? So what, would we be 20 games over with Andrus and Feliz (and Salty, who’s worthless)?
For all the “bad” trades the Braves may have made (and I seem to remember everyone wailing about losing Salty, not Andrus or Feliz, in the Tex trade), they’ve also traded for guys like Fred McGriff, John Smoltz (remember Doyle Alexander?), Tim Hudson (Charles Thomas, Juan Cruz and Dan Meyer), Jair Jurrjens (Edgar Renteria and Gorkys Hernandez)…Seriously, the doom and gloom over “failed” Braves trades is old and nonsensical.
July 5th, 20101:23 am
Edit: 52 K, not 52 L. 52 L for a closer at the All-Star break would be really bad.

have you guys seen how OMAR INFANTE is being ripped into for making the all-star game? It is front page on YAHOO under the article titled “Worst All-Star Ever”
how terrible is that?!
son of horner
July 5th, 20109:06 am
andrus is no elvis, he is a rafael belliard though. slick fields, but 328 slugging percentage? 22 steals but 10 caught stealing? he may end up great, but right now he isnt one of the “best of the best”.
so I am not too concerned about giving him up, not yet.
wainwright, now THAT one hurts.
The understanding I have about the Infante pick is that Manuel wanted a utility guy who could play multiple positions. With that context in mind, yes, Omar Infante was chosen.
I don’t think anybody can argue that Infante is about the best utility guy in the league and he’s made some HUGE contributions to the success of the Braves this season.
July 5th, 20109:24 am
The fact Cox refuses to play Infante as a regular doesn’t diminish his performance. Check the ratio of AB to RBI; comparable to McCanns – but Infante has a lot higher average AND seems to give the Braves a spark in the lineup. BC needs to get the sub 250 hitter out of the number 3 position and get his 300 hitters more at bats, including Infante.
July 5th, 201010:13 am
No matter who makes the all-star team, there will always been a handful of players who get ripped off. A guy like Omar making it is absolutely awesome. Yes, by the gross numbers Votto deserves it over him. But Omar is a utility player and Votto is an everyday 1B. Charlie Manuel is establishing a precedent, I hope, that we should consider the Utility players as well.
July 5th, 201010:24 am
Infante is a most pleasant surprise. I’m so happy for our 5 All-Stars, and so very proud of them. I received an email from MLB.com about voting for the “Last Man”, and Wagner is on that ballot. Apparently, there is no voting limit on this ballot as there were for the All-Stars which was 25. So, I’ve been voting away big-time. Hey…we could end up with SIX on the team instead of five. Wouldn’t that be something??
Here’s hoping our five (& potentially SIX) All-Stars strengthen the NL team and we actually WIN an All-Star game for a change! The NL is waaaaay overdue.
And yes….G O B R A V E S !!!! Beat those Phillies tonight!
July 5th, 201010:53 am
I’m tired of people always looking at offensive numbers when it come to sports. Look at the Defensive side of the ball also. Everybody is complaining about Infante, its not his fault that he doesn’t start for the team but he does play all over the field. he has played in a hell of a lot of games to be considered. if you complain about Utility guys getting selected, what do you have to say about a picture who comes in at the end of a game just to get 3 outs getting selected. Utility players in the NL are just as important as the DH in the American, the only difference is the Utility players play both sides.
July 5th, 201011:08 am
to the one fan on here who suggest that Arthur Rhodes doesnt deserve to be picked over Wagner….have you paid any attention at all to what Rhodes has done this year? Plus, this is his first pick ever, and he is 40 yrs old! He was moved to tears when told he had made it, cause he almost quit 2 yrs ago or so, cause he had a little boy who died prematurely. He has dedicated himself and this selection of being an All Star to his deceased son. Quite a moving story…Not saying Wagner doesnt deserve to go also, but good move on Manuel’s part for taking Sir Arthur. Just wish he had taken Votto too instead of a couple other choices he made. Votto shoulda been the DH, if nothing else. Maybe that will still happen.
