aggravating. Escobar has been totally worthless this year. guy has walked two people, first pitch to you is a ball, and you swing at the next pitch, which is high. amazing.
nolie – you’re not gonna tell me that Escobar is a better hitter than Infante are you? And I’m not talking about stats that you can throw at me for the last umpteen years – I’m talking about who’s produced consistently THIS year.
By the way, I agree that Escobar is better defensively – but sooner or later we’re gonna need some offense from SS, especially if we don’t upgrade ourselves in the outfield.
i would have no problem with them trading Escobar in part of a package deal to get another outfielder. i’m not saying they should be shopping him, but if you can get someone quality for him, i’d totally do it.
his stats are down, and that’s undeniable, but it’s more than that. so far he’s just consistently been the weak link on this team. this team has been fun to watch because they seem feisty and hungry to win, and Escobar still seems stuck in the lazy, “anything goes” mode that drove everyone crazy about the Braves the past few years. i was at the game the other night when he made 2 errors and he just looks like he’s totally clueless out there.
Does anyone here not remember when Infante has played shortstop…he’s not so slick in fielding. Yes he’s not going to be as good as Escobar…but he had a lot of errors playing there before…idk the stats….look um u yourself…lol
Take this whatever way you like it but Roy Halladay is 9-7 this year and Derek Lowe is 9-6. If that isn’t one of the better reasons why wins and losses shouldn’t be looked at as the end all I don’t know what is.
shmoe: pretty cool, huh? I never thought they’d make it, not even in the outermost reaches of my fandom. I was just hoping F(ree)S(hoes)U(niv) would make a decent showing so the rest of my family would be happy.
I’ll have to visit that sports knick-knack the next time I’m in Columbia.
Yunel’s game has sorted itself out except for the extra-base hits. Over the last month, he has been very solid offensively and defensively. Just needs some doubles sprinkled in and the occassional homerun would be nice too.
his stats are down, and that’s undeniable, but it’s more than that. so far he’s just consistently been the weak link on this team. -cheshire
How someone can say this with Nate McLouth on this team I don’t know. Escobar is having a down first half, but Nate McLouth, although on the DL now, has got to be the biggest dissapointment and weak link on this team since he’s been here, thats unless you think we got him to put up the numbers he’s given us. Not to mention he pisses Joe Simpson off everytime he doesn’t throw the ball in.
vuvuzelas are event getting annoying to me and you all know how much I love football, I am kind of getting burnt out tho, its been non-stop since last august..I need a little break.
Jake, i guess i’ve sort of forgotten about McLouth since we haven’t seen him in awhile. But yeah, he’s been horrendous too and definitely worse than Escobar. But saying McLouth has been worse doesn’t mean Escobar hasn’t been weak.
Someone may be able to provide some statistical evidence that Escobar is amazing this year and is totally pulling it together. I watch almost every game though, and i just feel like he’s been consistently useless so far this year. I can’t remember him coming through yet in a pressure situation.
McLouth most certainly has been the weakest link on this team for the last year – no argument there at all. But .248, zero power, and 18 RBI from the starting SS isn’t exactly great either.
Yunel’s OBP is still almost .350…it’s not like he’s been completely worthless with the stick. That’s decent value from a SS, good defense and a .350 OBP, especially with Yunel capable of much more. No reason to think he won’t have a big second half IMO.
Yeah, I’ll take Joe’s side on this one. At least throw it in, take your chances. It is frustrating but it appears to me its just a little bit more frustrating to Simpson. To be fair I think he is dumbfounded by it most of the time, especially when he cut in front of Jason that time only to hold on to the ball.
ok, Bravos. How about some runs. It would be nice to give Bobby the luxury of pulling JJ at around 85-90 pitches, not pushing him too much in his first start back.
The middle inning guys have not been all that solid lately. A 4 or 5 run lead would be a luxury, tonight especially.
Does the blue lot at Turner Field have any of those permanent charcoal grills you find at campsites? I remember them being there but I could be misremembering.
Freddie Freeman 1-2 with a 2B tonight. Coming in to tonight’s game, his season line is .279/.342/.470. Not too bad for a 20 year-old in the International League.
Nate not making throws has convinced that at least part of his problem is mental. When he is at the plate, I see it in his eyes too. I know that physical issues can lead to mental issues. Hard to really say though.
