I don’t think a small trade is actually going to improve this trade. We have all of the small pieces in place. We need more a difference maker type of trade…if we decide to make a trade. Otherwise, I’m just not sure your really going to improve this team much over what we already have.
I don’t believe McCann is below league average at throwing out baserunners.(Just a guess) And what he gives us offensively is being the best hitting catcher or thereabouts in the league.
Pudge put on a clinic because he is one of the best defensive catchers ever. He will be in the Hall of Fame five years after he retires. Expecting McCann to be anything like him defensively is wishful thinking.
You know McCann wants to be the best but it’s tougher to come out of the crouch when your tall. Pudge is like Johny Bench built closer to the ground and quick. At 38 he is the energizer bunny when it comes to production.
JJ4NLCYI can’t count the times when a bullpen pitcher like Saito or EOF have struck a guy out in a tight situation and point to McCann for calling a great pitch. He KNOWS his pitchers.
Heck yeah! That’s one reason why he’s staying a catcher.

Given the value of McCann’s current contract, he’s definately a keeper. Aren’t we lucky that Frenchy thought so much more of his ability than did Brian.
On Mitchell: “Considering he was on here questioning whether JJ was ready to come back”
Lot of folks on here were questioning if JJ was ready considering his rehab starts were less than spectacular. Probably many things you could question about Mitchell’s comments, just don’t think that was one of them.
Really great to see JJJ return the way he did last night. Hopefully the time shut down allowed his shoulder some much needed rest and that issue won’t crop back up again any time soon.
Tough series coming up against the Marlins with the Braves facing their top three pitchers. Glad the series is at Turner Field where the Braves have played some really consistent ball.
And I kinda like Pudge, too. Great defense, really good bat…and he’s still going strong. There actually aren’t a whole lot of catchers that I really don’t like, I mean, with Mauer, it’s slightly just a put-on. And I’m jealous of all his doubles this year…
I think Russell Martin is the only one that I know well enough to honestly just not like. He bugs me.

Totally. No offense, Jeff, but…

They seem really high on the 19 year old at Rome (Bethancourt). Know one has any idea what the team looks like in 3-4 years. JJ’s probably pitching in NY. Ridiculous to get that far ahead as a fan, but you know Wren considers the future health of the organization on a daily basis.
I agree, no one knows what’s gonna happen in the next few years. I just keep telling myself BMac’s gonna be a Brave for life. I could totally see that happening unless the teams decides to trade/not resign him. I think he’d go all Chipper on them and take less money to stay here.
Still bumming about Vizcaino, really hope the kid doesn’t have to end up having surgery. Although it’s far better to have elbow problems then shoulder issues at his age. And maybe this injury keeps the guy in our system past this year? Just looking at the bright side.

Oh, jeffrey! I think it was yesterday that you brought up how Lowe comes to bat with that apple bottom jeans song. I’m guessing he picked that song because in the song they’re like get low, low, low, low, low, low (I don’t know how many low’s but there’s a lot of them).
Haha, thanks…it’s not so much meeting people that worries me–it’s the reading.
CB–
Aw, thanks! I guess I just don’t have enough confidence in my…whatever you call it…reading comprehension. Sure, I cann usually understand what I’m reading, but will I remember it 5 whole minutes later?

Ah-ha……
Sopheeeejeffrey’s my Marteeen disliking alter-ego.
McFann – a good friend of mine was homeschooled, and she had very protective parents (wasn’t allowed to watch The Lion King). She was nervous about going to college too, but once she started going, she loved it. Found a great group of friends and a nice guy….now I hardly see her
I read many of you discussing McCann and his catching ability. He calls a good game and is a good receiver, but his throwing ability is sub par. The strange thing is that it is all a mechanical problem. All too often McCann comes out of his crouch too early, this causes his throws to sail, his front shoulder to fly open, and his velocity decreases. This is why his throws are often high and to the right field side of the bag. I was a catcher in college (small division II school) and its like football in that “the low man wins”. A catcher has to stay in his crouch and use his legs, this is where the power comes from and puts you in a better throwing position. David Ross on the other hand has perfect mechanics and I think it would benefit McCann to watch Ross throw.
Wasn’t allowed to watch “The Lion King”?? Dang…that was the first movie my Brother and I saw in the theaters!
She was nervous about going to college too, but once she started going, she loved it.
I’m sure when my time comes, I’ll wind up liking it…but if I started this fall I might go into panic mode. My other problem will be dealing with missing so much of…[gulp]…the Braves!
Found a great group of friends and a nice guy….now I hardly see her
Did somebody actually sat het Jose Guillen? Yeah, just what we need, a big mouth, big contract and not nearly as good as he obviously thinks he is.
That will NEVER happen!
Matt Kemp is a different story. But I think something like that would be worked out in the offseason because it’s a deal that would acquire time and thought. Plus they’d be selling low with him at this point.
My other problem will be dealing with missing so much of…[gulp]…the Braves!
I rarely ever have to miss a game. If you have work that needs to get done, you can do it with the game on in the background…assuming you can concentrate on other things while the game is on.
I read at the beginning of the season that Ross has been helping McCann with his throwing mechanics. That might be a big part of why McCann’s done so much better this year than in years past.
mcfann, i think ive told you this before, but my wife was homeschooled. she went to college and did great…3.9 GPA as an undergrad, and as of today, she is finished with her master’s degree. 4.0 GPA in hers masters program. smart girl. i mean, she married me, afterall :- )
McFann – she started at Perimeter, which is a real small school (although I think it’s UGA’s Gwinnett campus now) and not very intimidating.
And in my 4 years of college, I never had a class at night that would make me miss a Braves game.
….I did, however, have a lady friend who was a big nerd and went to all these late night tutorials on the part of campus with no streetlights across from the parking lot of sketchy vans, so I’d have to leave games sometimes to walk her back.
You mean that you are not ready for all the hardcore partying, playing baseball, girls boys, staying up late, graduating eight years later, then getting married, finding a real job, etc…Wait, let me reflect on that a minute…Strange, that sounds like my life, but let me edit for McFann.
Freedie Freeman is gonna be a good one…280/346/472….at the age of 20 in AAA…8 hr, 20 2b’s
He’s come on strong lately. He scorched the ball in June: .318/.411/.511/.922 with 11 XBH including 3 HR. Overall though he looks like he struggles against Lefties…
cab – Seriously!…the professor handed out a piece of paper (I think it was called a syl..a..bus…) with exam dates and what to study, said nothing about actual classes…just pointed me to the baseball field and said practice…or was that the coach? Hell if I know anymore…
My Brother made all A’s and B’s in his first semester or whatever you call it…first year (which was this past school year). Haha, but unlike me, he even reads when he doesn’t have to!
jeffrey d–
Oh yeah, I’d definitely have to go to a small school, too!
And in my 4 years of college, I never had a class at night that would make me miss a Braves game.
I’d have to do the same…might miss the occasional DGANG, but that wouldn’t be the end of the world…
I’d have to leave games sometimes to walk her back.

Oh, jeffrey! I think it was yesterday that you brought up how Lowe comes to bat with that apple bottom jeans song. I’m guessing he picked that song because in the song they’re like get low, low, low, low, low, low (I don’t know how many low’s but there’s a lot of them).

Look for a rental here pretty soon.

That will be easier to do when Ross (or whoever the backup will be at that point) is catching.
I could prob’ly do some stuff with the game in the background…I’d just have to cut out Blogging.
