“i don’t see why Infante couldn’t fill in for Escobar.”
Maybe he could. So in the best case senerio he does. With Infante at SS and Escobar traded. Who fills in for Chipper when/if he goes down? Who fills in at SS if Infante goes down? What I think is a more logical situation is to deal from our pitching surplus or our farm team to upgrade our talent at CF.
ChoppinmamaI know I was paying close attention to this at-bat, with my television on the game channel just in case this HUGE milestone was actually reached AND it would put us ahead in this game.
Thanks a lot.
Nah, I enjoyed it! Story of my life following his career. I was too friggin’ nice to ask for the channel to be changed back. I don’t know how long it’s gonna take me to forgive myself…
Rest easy, I won’t mention this terrible thing again.
Choppinmama, so you think I should be seeing something that I’ve not seen? Have you seen him favoring his thumb? If you have, then more power to your ability to observe, but I haven’t seen it. This is what I do. When I see Heyward struggling the way he has and knowing that his thumb has been mentioned as the culprit, I tend to watch for signs of it bothering him. I honestly haven’t seen it. And if he truly does have a thumb injury, why on God’s green earth would you continue to play him and make the condition worse? Doesn’t make sense.
AHG!! I can’t believe I didn’t change the channel!!!! I didn’t know they were taping what they were watching!! They didn’t know BMac was coming up! WHY DIDN’T I SPEAK UP??? WHY?? WHY???
I’m not a Adam Jones fan at all. Nick Markakis was suppost to be the main man with the O’s signing a 6 year 66 mil contract, but it was reported that they expected more from Markakis, he isnt a leader, he hasnt been hitting for power, more of a doubles line drive hitter. Plays excellent defense, and runs well. But hasnt been the number 3 hitter they hoped for. idk… I do know they Said they wanted a Shortstop in return for Wiggington.
i see what you’re saying braveslifer and i’m not denying the importance of infield depth… i just think that if you have the opportunity to upgrade a starting position, that’s more important. but agreed, you can’t do it without making sure you answer the questions you are asking. i would just hate not to upgrade a starting position because someone in the infield “might” get hurt.
I didn’t know that about Markakis. There are plenty of other teams that need a shortstop. The orioles were the only non-contender I could think of. A list of teams would be the orioles, royals, indians, tigers, angels, mariners, astros, pirates, giants, and padres. What do you think escobar is worth?
CJ seems to have reverted his hitting approach back to 2008 when he just seemed to make good contact and not try to hit the ball out of the park. Hopefully he can get the average back up to the .300 level and might be a good #2 hitter if that is going to be his approach.
Jerry: I was being sarcastic, really meaning that what little you see of him during game footage won’t tell you anything about his thumb situation. The guy is being stoic. He’s not gonna whine about the pain and ask to sit out. And we all know the mangers are just like the players, unless the hurting part is about to fall off, or you actually can’t run out onto the field, you’re NOT giving up your spot on the roster.
Nobody said anything in baseball has to make sense.
i don’t care if he plays Heyward or not, but you can’t keep him in the #2 hole. the guy’s batting average has fallen 50 points in the past 6 weeks, OBP 40 points, and slugging % over 100 points. put him in a less pivotal spot in the order until his thumb and his head get back to where they need to be.

That right there tells you he needs to go on the DL
Can we really assume that struggles like these are all because of the thumb? I mean, I’m not doubting he’s hurt, but I don’t think you can blame a .500 OPS for a month on his thumb. Guy is just really slumping, period. And he’s 20, so it’s really to be expected……but that doesn’t mean that you have to continue to bat him second…..and not rest him…..even once.
See, this is what’s going to make the difference. Billy Wagner sets us apart from the Phillies and Mets.
