BOBBY COX
On Hudson: “I thought Huddy was going to throw a shutout tonight, the way he started. I really did. Quentin’s ball to right field was a rocket; I thought it was a line-drive out or a double, and it went out. But he scalded that ball. And the other one was really hit, so…
“He had great stuff. I really thought he was going to throw a shutout.”
On missed opportunities: “Yeah, we left some guys on tonight. I mean, we hit the ball. I think we out-hit them. We swung the bats super tonight. You don’t always get the RBIs every time, but we swung the bats great.
On Ross: “He got a foul tip right here [on right hand]. He almost hit a home run on his last at-bat, but I don’t know. It’s going to be sore tomorrow, I know that.”
On Chipper being held up at third on McCann double: “He couldn’t have scored on that. I thought the ball might be caught, too.”
On Saito: “For the first time in 17, 18 days, I thought he threw the ball well.”
On losing series: “Well, you’re not going to win all the series. We need to at least win one [game].”
BRIAN McCANN
On Hudson: “Huddy pitched a great game. These guys are swinging the bats really well right now. I thought Huddy pitched great.
“We think he’s going to throw a shutout every time he takes the mound. He’s been as good as its gets this year. They had one big inning.”
On not capitalizing: “Buerhle got into some trouble and was able to get out of it. We’ll get ‘em tomorrow.”
“We just didn’t get a bit hit tonight. We had a couple of times when we left some guys on. That happens when you face a guy like Buehrle. He knows how to pitch.”
On first series loss in May 10: “That’s baseball. It’s going to happen sooner or later. You know, we’ll come back out tomorrow and try to win.”
On getting picked off; did you think it was a balk? “If they don’t call it, it’s not a balk. But I mean, you’ve just got to stay on the base I guess. His whole body goes toward home plate and he goes over. I’ve never seen his move before. We had just got done talking about how good it was. It’s frustrating that that happened in the situation when it did. Because we could have started something big there. It’s a tough move.”
More on Buehrle: “The running game is shut down when he pitches. He brings a lot to the table. He knows how to pitch, knows when to pitch around you and when to come at you.”
TIM HUDSON
“I felt pretty good. Got in a little jam there in the fourth. Quentin’s a strong guy. He hit a good pitch. Wind might have helped it a little bit, but he’s a strong guy. They were up by one after that. And the second homer, man, I probably could have hit that one out of the park.”
“I feel like we should have beat ‘em. They ended up doing just enough to beat us, but we had opportunities to score all night. You’ve just got to tip your hat to Buehrle, the way he bobbed and weaved through there. He made some big pitches when he needed to, but we had scoring opportunities and just didn’t cash in.”
“It’s a team that got some breaks, a team that, you know, had a little luck on their side tonight. Teams that are hot might have that sometimes. But I felt like we should have won.”

OK folks lets get real..Jay Hay has been great for us as a Rookie this year, but he is just that a ROOKIE…i don’t know if he hurt or has naggin injurys , but hes not the same as he was the 1st. 5 or 6 weeks of the season..ITS time too send him back to the no.7 spot..I think theres to much pressure bein put on him right now, plus not even gettin a day off here an there…Don’t get me wrong he gonna be a great ball player..but he is trying too hard to make things happen in the 2nd or 3rd. spot, swinging at balls that he did’nt swing at at the start off the season,in plan english hes tryin to hard and he is Rookie…Cmon BOBBY don’t mess this kid up!!!!!sit him 4 a few games or move him back to the 7th. hole plan an simple…NUFF SAID!! EVERYONE HAVE A GREAT DAY AN>>>>GOOOOO BRAVES!!

Good job White Sox!!! Can’t the Sox just be a good team that just won 12 out of the last 13? Why are they stealing signs? Maybe they are just better, want it more, and are working harder than the braves right now?

They are starting to look like the Braves from the beginning of the season. Now the Mutts and a half game out for 1st place. Time to suck it up and start playing some great ball again boys, otherwise you will start looking at the top of the division on your way down to the cellar.

Before you reply to my post, I’m not mad or hating on Hudson.
I thought this was going to be a very tough series at Chicago this week.
Two days in a row our starting pitcher’s quotes after the game were all Bobby speak. Yesterday Hanson referred to bloopers and the Sox getting hits off the end of the bat, yet he gave up 13 hits and nine runs. Last Huddy says the other team got a little lucky, but he gave up two homers. So, I get tired of hearing that after a loss. I’d rather hear I just didn’t get it done than the other team got lucky.

CHIPPER NOT SCORING ON MCCAN’S DOUBLE IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF HIS POOR BASERUNNING INSTICTS( IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT BALL WAS NOT GOING TO BE CAUGHT) AND HEYWARD BEING TOLD TO BE MORE AGGRESIVE(WENT FROM GOOD EYE TO TERRIBLE EYE AT THE PLATE) HAS TURNED HIM INTO JEFF F.

Well the media says we can’t beat left handed starters and it looks like we can’t. I agree with the Heyward suggestion and even may like to consider giving him the day off and letting Hinske play. If you aren’t gonna DH Hinske, at least put him in the field. When he gets three or four at bats, he finds a way to get on base. He plays with emotion and we need that on the field. To put McCann and Larry the last two nights at DH and bench Hinske whom is hitting about 60 points higher than them is puzzling. Ross is injured today so Mac has to catch. Lineup:
Prado – 2B
Esco – SS
Larry – DH
Glaus – 1B
Mac – C
Hinske – RF
Melkdud – CF
Infante – LF
Broooooooks – 3B

Do any of you watch baseball. Trade prospects and JJ for Cliff Lee, why so we can suck forever? This team is going nowhere with or without Cliff Lee. Great trade getting Melky, are you kidding me. Players like Melky are a dime a dozen, a .260 hitter with no pop and an average arm. Yea, great trade, KK is alot better than Vazquez. I guess the Francouer for Church trade worked out great also and that McOut trade is looking good. Good thing we don’t have Kelly Johnson, and those 30 homeruns. We can’t afford to acquire anybody, we spent all our money on crap.

Not for long. Give it a thru the weekend man and the Braves will never see first again. No comparison between what we trot out there and the Mets and Phillies. Once Rollins gets back its over in the East, the Braves will finish 10 games back. We have four solid players, McCann, Prado, Hudson, and Wagner and a bunch of young promising talent. We pick up Glaus because he is cheap and no one else wanted him and don’t even have enough sense to get a club option for 2011.

I am amazed on the idiocy of some of the comments I am reading in this blog “Phillies & Mets are on your tails”…wow, that’s genius. They are on the Braves “tail” because they are in first place by virtue of playing outstanding baseball. Would you rather them be in third place trailing by 6 games?????
“Give it a thru weekend man and the Braves will never see first again”…Truly a literary masterpiece. Dude, are you for real. Baseball season is very long and there are certainly going to be ups and downs. I’m completely happy with the Braves level of play and performance so far. I am not certainly the eternal optimist, but I will take leading the division and playing hard nosed ball, over being in third or fourth place in the standings…Come on guys, you can’t be mad at your team for losing two games.

The biggest problem this series is Braves batters have become impatient at the plate. They are not taking multiple pitches per at bat nor are they fouling off numerous pitches per at bat. CJ twice swung at the first pitch! That`s a leader……..put Hinske in and sit Heyward. He is swinging at pitches before the pitcher lets go of the ball. Time for a wlee needed three day hiatus on the bench for the Rookie. Also, his defense is very average going to the wall. The first homer by Quentin should`ve/would`ve been caught with average effort by an average outfielder back in the 70`s because they never gave up on a ball. He continuously is late getting to the right place on a ball at the wall. Hinske needs to play for a week straight and let this kid sit for a while.
Braves batters……take a few pitches!

Now tell her baby here’s what we got spend, go out and have fun but x,y, and z with the $ we got. She then comes back with the greatest bargains with great value and we are still under budget.
FW-(Big Willy Style) $22Mill to spend= D. Lowe and KK
FW-(Yard Sale Budget) $20Mill to spend= Huddy extension, T. Glaus, E. Hinske, Saito, AND Wagner
Keep the strings tight on FW and we might just WIN something….BIG!!

I guess I didn’t see that foam finger that says “We’re Number One in June”. I will look for Friday night at The Ted. All I am advocating is quit making stupid personnel decisions. Do not trade any prospects. If we are going to make trades then trade Glaus, Wagner and Satito for prospects. We have the best young talent in baseball, for goodness sake keep it and add to it. We can be great in 2012 if good decisions are made. If I see old Frank trade our young talent so this team can do a little better and not win it all, I will hire CPJ to punch him in the face.

agreed…sit Heyward for at least a week…the change is sad to see…is it the thumb or isn’t it?? DOB can you elaborate?
and yes, have someone teach him how to play right field…he remains a superb base runner and an above average base stealer…
I hate to be saying this, I was/am a huge JH fan but now i wince to watch his at bats…it’s not the stats so much, its the way he’s swinging…he’s apparently lost the ability to scorch those line drives to left – when he goes there now its lazy high bloops…pulling almost everything, hardly ever a clean really hard hit ball – there used to be many…and if it is the thumb just what sort of bad habits is it getting him into?
This is not remotely the same guy…get him back, please.

I am suprised by all the resentment towards the Braves. They have been playing great ball and for the first time in, I can’t even count how many years, they are not giving up until the 27th out. Yesturday’s game they left a lot of runners on and didn’t execute very well but at least they are hitting the ball. I can remember the last couple years 10+ hits in one game was a rare occurence. It is happening regularly now. If Chip and McCann start hitting like their old selves, they will be unstoppable!

The frustrating thing about heyward is that he was so good at using all fields when he first came up. He always hit the ball hard and hit some homers to left field. Now, he tries to pull everything and I rarely see him hit the ball hard anymore. He stands so far off the plate he has NO chance to do anything productive trying to pull an outside pitch. Surely Pendleton is telling him to go to left field again. Hell, I’d settle for up the middle to start.
