18 — number of home runs hit into the Dodger Stadium loge level seats since it opened in 1962, after Brian McCann hit blast there Sunday.
11.04 & .328 – ERA and batting average allowed for Jesse Chavez over his past 11 appearances, after the Braves right-hander gave up the game-ending single in the 11th inning Sunday.
– McCann had six RBIs in two games Saturday and Sunday, matching his RBI total from his previous 14 games. The catcher is having problems again with his vision and did not wear his glasses after his second at-bat Saturday night. He got a pair of tw0-RBI hits without them in that game, and he doesn’t need the glasses for day games.
His vision is problematic only under the lights in night games, and McCann isn’t sure what the answer is after getting a second Lasik procedure on one eye in October (he had Lasik surgery on both eyes two years before that, and only one eye had regressed enough for his doctor to recommend a second “tuneup” Lasik procedure in such a relatively brief period).
– Chavez has allowed 20 hits (five homers), 18 earned runs and 7 walks in 14 innings in a span of 11 appearances began on April 29. The Braves are 3-8 in those games.

Surely the Braves aren’t going to let Resop just get away as a free agent on June 15…especially when we are so short-handed in the pen at the moment???
Chavez needs to go down. I hope when JJ gets back to see KK in the pen as well. Medlen has pitched so well!

Using your absolute worst reliver before using your best reliever–epecially one who hasn’t pitched in four days is just dumb.
Bobby Cox dumb.
Never ever a smart late-game tactician, Cox today showed why….today was a bad loss.
If Dodgers beat Wagner, so be it. But to surrender so meekly, so stupidly but putting a head case with a strong arm…these types of winnable games come back to haunt you later in the yeay.

Abs, azbravofan is right…we had to save Wags for if we took the lead.
I do agree with you that putting Chavez in was an automatic loss. I called it as such at the start of the inning. The problem is…WHY IS CHAVEZ ON THE ROSTER? That’s the real problem. Because, in an extra inning game, you are going to have to put that weak link out there eventually. Cox just has to have a guy like this always around. (Kolb/Acosta, etc…)

Again Bad Trade. Sorianio would be better than even Wagner at this point considering he is looking like the Reliever of the year im the AL. All we did is trade for a guy that looks like Pedro…….(Not Martinez) from Napleon Dynamite.Heyward needs a day off and to keep Terry Pendelton AWAY from him. We need to trade for Alex Rios from the White Sox because McClouth has lost it and he is now afraid to throw the ball to home. Keep Kimbrel up this time

Chavez does look awful, but I get more excited every time I see Venters and Kimbrel pitch. These too look like they have the makings of a bright future. Dunn has been pitching well and Resop is dominating down in Gwinnett too. I say send Chavez down and bring up Resop. When Jurrjens returns drop Kawakami to the pen and leave Medlen in the rotation. I think they will option Kimbrel back to Triple A. When Saito returns Kawakami can be moved to Gwinnett to work himself out.

I think that’s a sign that things are looking pretty good for the res of the way. Lets get JJ and Saito healthy, keep Medlin in the rotation and hope that McClouth will either get his on base % up, or maybe for Schaefer to meet the expectations we all had for him last season.

on jesse chavez: no matter what, jesse will never be used in high leverage situations for the rest of this year so why have him on the team? we’ve all seen how bobby manages a bullpen. he finds 3-4 guys he likes and throws them ’til their arms fall off.
in fairness to bobby, we all thought scott proctor would be on the team by now and he’s….well, who knows where he is. however, we do have 2 very competent relievers in the minors in michael dunn and lee hyde.
jesse chavez should be dfa’d.

Booby Cox blew this one – why the hell put Mc Clouth in to hit for a pitcher who was keeping them in the game. Automatic out Mc Clouth did as published and the replacement pitcher was not the best for the situation. Torres put his best out there and Cox for some ungodly reason holds back on Wagner – no wonder we lost. Torres at least doesn’t have a brain fart as some managers are known to experience.

Perhaps the only two saving graces of this game are:

Pitching Chavez wasn’t the questionable decision. Taking Peter Moylan out after one batter was the mistake. I do understand the thinking there though – Cox wanted to hold them off at the time thinking there would be a good chance to take the lead so Wagner could come in and close it out. And truth be told, we DID have a chance to do just that, three innings in a row. After failing to get a run home 3 straight innings with men on base, twice with men on third, and once with only one out and a man on third, Cox really played it well. I would have let Moylan stay in there, but the decision was logical and could have gone either way. The pen held them at bay for longer than can reasonably be expected, and Bobby played it smart. The bats just didn’t come through when they had the chance.

here’s what i would like to see – if/when jurrjens comes back, mike minor promoted to be our 5th starter (i REALLY think we need a lefty in the rotation), kawakami moved into long relief, medlen moved into a setup role. medlen, venters and saito would be awesome setting up wags.

Looks like Chavez is the new Greg Norton. As soon as I saw him in the bullpen I knew the game was lost if he came in. If Bobby likes the guy let him correct his problems at Gwinnett. Braves can’t afford to lose another 3 or 4 games because Cox thinks the guy can pitch and the stats make it clear he’s not up to the job.

Chavez, most of us agree, has good stuff, but has location problems with his pitches. He pitches like he has no confidence. He needs help. Maybe he needs help from another pitching coach. He needs to learn how to pitch, both mental and physical conditioning are important. He needs one on one help in an instructional league. Jesse, you can still become a good, solid pitcher – for some club. (Braves?)

Dunn and then Resop, in that order…but I believe Resop will be traded as Jurjjens comes back and KK gets bumped to the pen…
KK will not be optioned to Gwinnett, not with his ERA as “low” as it is….for a #5 starter his #s aren’t horrible, save for the salary #. Which is the real reason he won’t be optioned…we are trying to save ourselves the Kei Igawa embarassment.
Martinez needs a bus ticket. He obviously doesn’t have the trust of anyone.
Simple moves for the short-term: Dunn for Chavez, Resop for Martinez, Saito for Kimbrel…trade Resop for something when Jair returns and after a couple auditions, option Martinez (if possible) and recall JoJo for long relief…
In the end of it all, you really have to decide who is doing better: Kimbrel or Dunn….
Wags, Saito, Moylan, Venters, O’Flat, KK, and then the last spot filled by Kimbrel, Dunn, or JoJo…
Valdez’s visa problems also hurt us here…it’d be another option.

I was watching the game on the tube, or flatscreen, and Joe Simpson called it, before it happened.
He said, the one thing you don’t want to do is, speed up the batters bat, with an off-speed pitch selection, when the batter has just entered the game and is swinging late.
And that is exactly what the catcher did when he called for Chavez to throw that slider.
Maybe Joe should have a conference with McCann, and see if he can teach him to start calling a better sequences of pitches, from behind the plate.

When Chavez came into the game, the outcome was very predictable. The guy has great stuff but if he can’t harness it, then he shouldn’t be playing at this level.
And, for those of you who are calling for the Braves to bring up Chris Resop, be careful what you ask for. If memory serves, they had him a couple of years ago and he wasn’t very good.

I agree that Chavez is certainly not pitching well enough to keep his bull pen spot and the Braves will have to make a decision (which probably take care of itself soon).
The decision yesterday to bring Chavez in was certainly debatable at best and conventional wisdom holds that you don’t bring in your closer in a tie game (especially on the road in extra innings).
My challenge with Bobby’s decision is two fold. He rarely goes with conventional wisdom and we all knew that once Chavez came into the game, it was pretty much over. I probably would have taken the chance on Wag’s coming out and pitching bottom of the inning and giving your team a chance to win.
For those of you who disagree, your argument is moot because the Braves lost the game. Your theory of “keeping your closer on the bench” didn’t produce the results that “conventional wisdom” holds. Why not go against the grain, at least give your team a chance, and if you lose, lose with your best chance (then just giving the game away).

If Wagner comes in and Braves loses in that inning or next it’s even worse. Then it’s the same outcome and the closer pitched an inning. Letting Charvez pitch wasn’t probably ideal but it’s his job to hold. It would have been better if Braves scored one more run in 9 innings. It’s a team loss period.

How did Cox lose the game yesterday?
It was Hudson that gave the 3-run lead back in the very next half inning.
It was Hinske and Yunel that didn’t get Glaus in from 2nd base in the 5th inning when Ely was just hanging on.
It was Melky who K’d on ball 4 in the 10th.
It was Infante and Heyward who K’d with the go-ahead run on in the 11th.
Cox was left with Chavez, Kimbrel, and Martinez in the pen (needing to save Wagner to close if the team took the lead). Martinez was never an option. Cox went with the more experienced reliever, fearing Kimbrel would do the very thing that Chavez did — walk the leadoff hitter.
Like someone earlier said — this was a team loss!

Soriano for Chavez and Vasquez for Cabrera have to be two the worst trades of all time. Melky was the throw-in in the Vasquez trade. Vizcaino and Dunn were the two main players we got back. That trade has to be judged 2-3 years from now.
The Braves decided to sign Wagner and Saito instead of Soriano and Gonzalez. They did not expect Soriano to agree to arb. When he did, the Braves needed to trade him. Maybe they could have held out for a better deal, but all the clubs knew the Braves were under the gun and were not going to give up much more in return.

The Braves don’t want to admit that Chavez for Soriano was a big mistake (even if under the gun) so they refuse to demote him. I mean, why struggle all year if he could get it done and be out for only a month or so. Better to have Ross in at 100% and Sammons back him up than Mac be 80% all year.

Chip Carey is the reason I watch the game and listen to the radio. Simpson and Boog were great…..Simpson is great, but when you add in Chip, I can’t stomach the broadcast. Sorry Mama…your boy sucks.

Chavez?! Chavez?! Get him outta there along with that no hitting Nate McOut. They’re both a direct result of Wren’s incompetency.

“Wren’s incompetency” is directly responsible for signing Glaus, Hinske, Wagner and Saito. Without these key players, this season would NOT be what it has been so far. Why is it Wren gets the glowing blame for any player he signs that struggles, yet receives none for the ones that shine? Baffling….

Dunn is still in AAA because the Braves would rather have 4 righties and 3 lefties in the pen than the other way around. He was sent to AAA to work on his command and to get more regular work — The numbers indicate that he is ready. With Wagner closing and Venters looking equally good against LH and RHhitters. It doesn’t seem to matter whether there are 4 lefties or not. We would be a lot stronger for the next 2 weeks with both Dunn and Kimbrel here than with the invisible man.

Sorryanno was just not that dependable.
Does anyone else remember the game last year against the Phillys.
Hanson had a shutout through 8 innings, with plenty of gas in the tank to finish them off, then Mr. Bobby took him out, so Sorryanno could get a save. He threw a game ending HR pitch to Howard for a Braves loss.

I can’t understand all this complaining about Chip.
It’s not like he inherited the announcing job.
He got it because of his pure talent and very loquacious manner.
And as far as trivia goes, no one is more trivial than my boy is.

I’m not worried about Sorry-ano; He will implode at some point. He can’t keep it up.
The main concern is getting Chavez off the active roster – get him outta here.
As for Proctor; he has just suited up for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and is on the Pelicans 25-man roster.
