Braves vs. Dodgers: hottest teams in the NL meet

LOS ANGELES – As I sit here typing, I’m thinking that the view from my downtown hotel — the famous Hollywood sign is right there in the distance — is almost as nice as the view the Braves have from the top of the NL East standings.

I said almost.

Sizzling-hot Braves meet equally hot Dodgers in four-game series.

Sizzling-hot Braves meet equally hot Dodgers in four-game series.

The rejuvenated, streaking Braves have moved their show for the beginning of a tough and important 11-game road trip that starts tonight just a few traffic lights away at Dodger Stadium. It will not be an easy three-city trek.

Because as you probably know, Los Dodgers are just as hot as Atlanta, and Minnesota (third leg on the trip) has the same 31-22 record as the Braves and Dodgers.

The Bravos have a four-day series in the desert between those two series, against a Diamondbacks team that is, … well, OK, they’re real bad. But they’ve lost 10 in a row and are probably due for a decent little run. Maybe.

Anyway, back to the business at hand.

You want strange coincidences, we’ve found them. Not only do the Braves and Dodgers have the same record, they took remarkably similar routes to those records.

Raul Ibanez prevented Troy Glaus from homering in a fourth consecutive game on Wednesday, but couldn't prevent Braves from sweeping Phillies.

Raul Ibanez prevented Troy Glaus from homering in a fourth consecutive game on Wednesday, but couldn't prevent Braves from sweeping Phillies.

At the end of the day on April 29, the Braves had lost nine in a row to fall to 8-14, while the Dodgers had lost five in a row (and seven of eight) to fall to 8-14.

Since that day, the Braves and Dodgers have each gone 23-8. Both teams were 9-14 in April, 20-8 in May and 2-0 so far in June.

The Braves have held opponents to three runs or fewer in eight consecutive games during their current winning streak. The Dodgers have held opponents to one or no runs in five of their past 11 games.

The Braves have a 3.36 ERA during their 23-8 run, and the Dodgers have a 3.35 ERA during theirs. But the Braves have hit .276 with 176 runs and 30 homers in 31 games, while the Dodgers have hit .258 with 140 runs and 22 homers.

The Dodgers just swept a series against Arizona while scoring only seven runs in 33 innings, including consecutive 1-0 extra-inning wins Tuesday and Wednesday.

I was driving in my rental car on a traffic-clogged freeway near Dodger Stadium yesterday listening on the radio when Garret Anderson got his game-ending hit in 14th inning, thereby releasing tens of thousands of Dodger fans into rush hour traffic (it was a 12:05 p.m. start, a rush-hour finish).

Anyway, the point is, L.A. has many miles of various freeways that are as bad or worse than Atlanta’s Downtown Connector at rush hour, that every dog finds a bone once in a while (Garret went 1-for-6 yesterday and is batting .157 overall), and the Braves are about to face some very good pitching.

Dodgers starters in the first three games all have at least five wins and ERAs under 3.75: Hiroki Kuroda (5-3, 3.55) tonight, lefty Clayton Kershaw (5-3, 2.95) on Friday, Chad Billingsley (6-2, 3.74) on Saturday. On Sunday, Braves ace Tim Hudson (6-1, 2.30) faces Dodgers rookie standout John Ely (3-2, 2.54).

Joe Ely was friends with the late Joe Strummer, but is not related to John Ely, as far as I know.

Joe Ely was friends with the late Joe Strummer, but is not related to John Ely, as far as I know.

(Ely really should warm up with Joe Ely’s “Letter to Laredo” playing over the Dodger Stadium sound system. But that’s just my opinion. By the way, bet you didn’t know Ely (Joe, not John) sang backing vocals on The Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go?”)

Moylan urges Wags to reconsider: A couple of weeks ago I was talking to Peter Moylan about Billy Wagner and how it didn’t seem like he’d lost his edge since announcing he planned to retire after this season.

“Oh, no,” said Moylan, one of Wagner’s biggest fans. “He still loves it. You can tell he still loves it. And I’m still convincing him every day, trying to get him to come back another year.”

If Wagner keeps pitching like this, the rest of the Braves and some team officials might also ask the veteran left-hander to reconsider.

Because Wagner is seriously dealin’, folks. Since a six-day stretch in May during which he twice gave up a run and two hits, Wagner has allowed just one hit in his past seven appearances, converting five of five saves in that span.

Opponents are 1-for-20 with two walks and nine strikeouts those seven games.

For the season, Wagner has 33 strikeouts in 21-1/3 innings, the second-highest strikeouts-per-nine-innings rate in the NL at 13.92.

Opponents are hitting .164 against him, tied fifth-lowest among NL relievers.

“And he’s throwing 100″ miles per hour, Moylan said. “It’s crazy. It’s awesome.”

Wagner is 38 and missed most of last season recovering from Tommy John elbow surgery. And yes, he’s hit 100 mph with his fastball several times this season, according to some stadium radar guns.

He’s routinely hitting 96-97 mph, basically throwing as hard as he did in his early 30s.

Moylan says he tells cowboy Billy Wagner every day to come back and pitch in 2011.

Moylan says he tells cowboy Billy Wagner every day to come back and pitch in 2011.

His influence has been felt not just in the bullpen, but throughout the clubhouse. Guys see him never turn down the ball, never ask for days off, never beg out of a tough spot, like after the rain delay last week when he’d already warmed up and gone to the mound before play was halted.

Other pitchers follow his no-nonsense approach and see him not make excuses when he blows a save, not avoid the media or take on any sort of you-only-talk-to-me-when-I-stink attitude with reporters.

He’s the real deal, folks. No B.S.

His home-field entrance, complete with Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” blasting and the flames blazing on the video board, sends as much of a charge and a confidence blast through the Braves as it does through fans at Turner Field.

Moylan also has his own intro music at home games, but it’s usually not played for very long because he often pitches in the seventh inning and there is a promotional message played on the P.A. system between innings before a snippet of his song, AC/DC’s “TNT” is played during his final warmup pitches.

A few weeks ago Moylan entered a couple of games in the middle of an inning and, as a result, got something close to the full-blown entrance that Wagner makes.

“It kind of gives me the feeling like Wags would get when he comes in, because they do it every time when he comes in [at home],” Moylan said. “It’s boom, here it comes.

“I’m running out there thinking, holy s—, this is unreal. I know it’s probably a little bit immature, but to run out, with your song going, video on the board, crowd yelling, it’s a tight game, runners on – it’s awesome.”

Did that sort of thing make Moylan want to be a closer in the future even more than he already wanted it?

“Yeah, of course,” he said. “Everyone wants to be a closer.”

However, he quickly added that he likes the setup role he’s in, and would never put pressure on anyone to change his role. He knows the Braves have Craig Kimbrel waiting in the wings anyway.

Besides, Moylan would prefer that the closer job not become available in 2011.

“I still want Wags to come back next year,” he said.

By the way, Takashi Saito also ranks among NL leaders in strikeouts per nine innings at 12.75. He’s got 34 K’s in 24 innings. Another Wagner contribution – he’s the one who strongly recommended the Braves sign Saito.

Medlen returns home: When he takes on the Dodgers’ Kuroda tonight, Kris Medlen will make his first start at the stadium where he used to attend so many games as a kid.

Medlen grew up in nearby Norwalk and used to come to Dodger games with friends. He also watched plenty on TV with his grandma, who was a huge Dodgers fan.

Southern Californian Medlen makes his first start at Dodger Stadium tonight.

Southern Californian Medlen makes his first start at Dodger Stadium tonight.

He’s pitched twice at Dodger Stadium, two relief appearances in back-to-back games last August when Medlen allowed only one hit and one walk in 3-1/3 scoreless innings, with six strikeouts. Braves won both and he got the win in the latter game Aug. 8.

Medlen is 2-2 with a 4.65 ERA in eight starts over two seasons, but has pitched much better in the starting role lately. He’s 1-0 with a 3.50 ERA in three consecutive rotation turns in place of Jair Jurrjens, and came within one out of having three consecutive quality starts (he held Pittsburgh to two runs in 5-2/3 innings on May 23; six innings are required for a quality start).

In his past 10 appearances (four starts), Medlen is 2-0 with a 2.59 ERA.

Kuroda didn’t face the Braves last season, but plenty of them can still remember what he did against them in 2008. Kuroda made two starts against the Braves that season, taking a loss while allowing two runs in six innings on April 20, then dominating Braves hitters in a one-hit shutout on July 7.

In the latter game at Dodger Stadium, he had 10 strikeouts and one walk in nine innings. In two starts against the Braves, they’ve hit .148 against the righty.

However, Kuroda has struggled some lately and has a 5.34 ERA in his past five starts, after going 3-1 with a 2.08 ERA in his first five. He gave up seven runs (five earned) and 10 hits in his last start Saturday at Colorado.

Speaking of last year’s series: Most current Braves also are at least a little bit familiar with Kershaw, who pitched seven scoreless innings of two hit ball with a whopping 10 strikeouts on Aug. 8 last season in L.A.

The Braves ended up winning that game and taking the last three games of that memorable series at Dodger Stadium, after losing the Aug. 7 opener 5-4 on Andre Ethier’s walkoff three-run homer against Rafael Soriano.

The Braves outscored the Dodgers 19-8 in the next three games, including back-to-back extra-innings wins Aug. 8-9 (12 innings and 10 innings).

The bad news for the Braves is, they’ll not avoid facing Ethier in this series. He’s back from the DL, and has hit .333 with a 1.032 OPS, four homers and 16 RBIs in 23 games against the Braves.

He really does look young: Forgot to mention this Wagner story, from an interview I did with him about the Braves bullpen a couple of weeks ago.

He was talking about how the Braves have such a variety of guys, young and old and from all over the place, and how they have some real characters who all get along well.

“We were in St. Louis and my brother came out there to see me,” Wagner said in his rural Virgina drawl. “We were sitting down in the hotel lobby and I was talking to my brother and his wife. Medlen comes by and my brother goes, ‘Hey, can I meet him?’ I say, yeah.

“So I call him over and my brother goes, ‘How old are you, 12?’ And he’s just laughing.”

No Brave lights up Dodger Stadium: It seems odd that the only current Brave with better than a .250 career average at Dodger Stadium is Nate McLouth, who has a .256 mark in 14 games, with two homers and six RBIs.

You might have heard, he’s not hitting much at any venue of late.

Injured ring ringer could sideline Jones for part of Dodgers series.

Yunel Escobar has a .250 average with no homers in 11 games at Dodger Stadium, and next is Chipper Jones at .249 with 12 homers and 33 RBIs in 54 games, with a relatively puny (for him) .351 OBP and .463 slugging percentage.

The currently en fuego Troy Glaus, another Southern California native and former Angels star, has a .244 average with seven homers in 90 at-bats at Dodger Stadium.

David Ross also has seven homers in 159 at-bats at Dodger Stadium, though just a .208 average and .293 OBP.

As for Chipper’s right ring-finger injury, we’ll know soon whether he’ll be out of the lineup tonight, but it seems a safe assumption. He said it hurts more batting lefty than righty, so he might wait to play against the lefty Kershaw on Friday and possibly pinch-hit in other games until it feels better.

Don’t think the Braves won’t miss him, either, despite his struggles for a good part of this season. Not like they used to miss him, but they’ll miss him.

He’s hit .277 with a homer, 12 RBIs and a .393 OBP in his past 14 games, including a .364 average with seven RBIs in his past seven games. He has a .481 OBP and .545 slugging percentage in that latter stretch, and also made some fine defensive plays in the past week.

With runners in scoring position, Jones leads the Braves with a .371 average (13-for-35) and .589 OBP with runners in scoring position.

The Braves are tied for fourth with a .273 average with RISP, and lead the league with a .396 OBP in those situations.

They have seven players hitting over .300 with runners in scoring position – Jones, Jason Heyward .370, Omar Infante .355, Eric Hinske .346, David Ross .333, Martin Prado .314, Glaus .304.

Infante came through with the big hit Wednesday, now Braves might need him for a few more games in place of injured Chipper. (Curtis Compton photo/AJC)

Infante came through with the big hit Wednesday, now Braves might need him for a few more games in place of injured Chipper. (Curtis Compton photo/AJC)

Three players have dragged down the average with RISP: McLouth .182 (6-for-33), Brian McCann .190 (8-for-42) and Melky Cabrera .200 (9-for-45). Yes, it seems strange typing McCann’s name between those others in a stat about RISP hitting.

Glaus climbing charts: The resounding Glaus resurgence has moved the NL’s May Player of the Month up to third in the league with 40 RBIs, including a league-high 13 in the past 10 days.

Since May 1, Glaus has hit .333 with seven homers, 31 RBIs and a .982 OPS.

Of course he’s taken it to another level lately, going 9-for-25 (.360) with three homers and 13 RBIs during his current eight-game hitting streak. And if Philly LF Raul Ibanez hadn’t robbed him of a homer Wednesday, Glaus would have a home run in four consecutive games.

Remember when Glaus was getting booed at Turner Field in April? Back when he hit .125 with one homer and two RBIs in 10 April home games?

In 15 May-June home games, Glaus has hit .415 (22-for-53) with five homers and 19 RBIs.

Mannywood? Yeah, whatever: Had to share with you this paragraph from the Los Angeles Times game story following Tuesdyay’s 1-0 win against Arizona, describing a benches-clearing incident after Russell Martin slid hard through second base breaking up a potential double-play and hit the foot of Arizona’s Stephen Drew.

The Times reporter wrote: “Soon, the benches cleared. Then, the bullpens. Finally, Manny Ramirez trotted onto the field, in time to join his teammates on their way back to the bench.”

By the way, Ramirez is 5-for-36 with two homers, 10 strikeouts and one walk in his past 13 games.

For the season, he’s hitting .283 with four homers and an .836 OPS, down from last year’s .949 OPS and his 1.031 OPS in 2008, the year before his PED suspension.

His career OPS as of today is exactly 1.000.

Prado’s star rising: All-Star candidate Martin Prado has hit .367 (29-for-79) with a .398 OBP and .519 slugging percentage in the leadoff role, which has been as big a boost for the Braves as anything including Glaus.

In his past 23 games, Prado has hit .343 with three homers, 20 RBIs and a 22 runs. He has five multi-hit games and a .424 average during his current seven-game hitting streak.

Etc.: The Braves are 14-2 in their past 16 home games, with a .302 batting average 3.31 ERA. They’ve average six runs per game in that stretch…. On the road, the Braves have won seven of their past nine, including a sweep at Milwaukee and 2-1 series wins at Pittsburgh and Florida…. Atlanta is 15-12 in its past 27 games against Philly.

Braves' sweep of the skidding Phillies opened 2-1/2 game lead in NL East.

Braves' sweep of the skidding Phillies opened 2-1/2 game lead in NL East.

♣ Diversions: The Phillies have hit .197 with two homers and 14 runs scored during their 2-9 slide, so it’s understandable that manager Charlie Manuel might have gotten a little upset yesterday upon seeing a lot of his guys watching the movie “Gran Torino” before the afternoon series finale with the Braves.

Bu,  man, can Clint Eastwood make a movie, or what? I say this because I watched Invictus on the plane to L.A. yesterday. Don’t know how I failed to see it when it was in theatres, but it was tremendous. Gave me chills for much of the last 45 minutes or so, it was so emotional and uplifting.

Speaking of diversions, made a trip down to Amoeba Music in Hollywood last night. One of the great record/CD stores in America, just massive amounts of new and used product. If you can’t find it there, good luck finding it anywhere.

Picked up a used copy of The Duke and The King’s Nothing Gold Can Stay that came out in 2009 (the band is one of the Felice Brothers and friends), and played it the rest of the day driving in the car. Terrific country/rock. Also got new ones by L.A. bands Everest (reminds me of some earlier Wilco) and Helen Stellar, and a new one by indie rock/hip-hop artist Sage Francis.

Speaking of L.A. artists, here’s one by the late, great Warren Zevon. You can hear the song (and read a few things about the man) here.

“POOR POOR PITIFUL ME” by Warren Zevon

I’d lay my head on the railroad tracks

And wait for the Double “E”

But the railroad don’t run no more

Poor, poor pitiful me

Poor, poor pitiful me

Poor, poor pitiful me

These young girls won’t let me be

Lord have mercy on me

Woe is me

Well, I met a girl in West Hollywood

I ain’t naming names

She really worked me over good

She was just like Jesse James

She really worked me over good

She was a credit to her gender

She put me through some changes, Lord

Sort of like a Waring blender

Poor, poor pitiful me

Poor, poor pitiful me

These young girls won’t let me be

Lord have mercy on me

Woe is me

Well, I met a girl at the Rainbow bar

She asked me if I’d beat her

She took me back to the Hyatt House

I don’t want to talk about it

Poor, poor pitiful me

Poor, poor pitiful me

These young girls won’t let me be

Lord have mercy on me

Woe is me

Well, I met a girl from the Vieux Carre`

Down in Yokahama

She picked me up and she throwed me down

I said, “Please don’t hurt me, Mama”

Agreed. I remember them moving Millwood when he was 1 year from free agency for Johnny Estrada.

And even he probably would not have been moved but for Maddux accepting arbitration that year. Soriano was not the first pitcher to monkey-wrench an offseason in that fashion, LOL.

I was watching the game on MLB Network…based on the stands, it might be more appropriate to say that they released “tens of Dodger fans into rush hour traffic.”

Also, did Ethier go back on the DL? He was playing yesterday, but it’s possible he got hurt again and I didn’t hear about it.

what happened to the Wren haters?

It’s inevitable that when things are going bad – and things were pretty darn bad for the Braves – fans will want to hold somebody accountable, whether he’s deserving or not. Wren had signed Glaus, and Glaus was stinking it up. Wren had traded “our best pitcher,” 3 out of our 5 remaining pitchers were struggling mightily. Clearly these moves are now seeming to pay off, but at the time to the casual fan it made Wren look like a doof.

3 of these games after Colorado came against Milwaukee whose pitchers would give up 6 runs to a little league team and the 4th was against Pittsburgh and Charlie Morton

1.7 runs per game

it appears the Pac-10, which has its meetings in San Francisco starting this weekend, is prepared to make a bold move and invite Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Colorado to join its league, according to multiple sources close to the situation

First of all, WOW! Second, it’s a bit of a stretch to say that schools in Texas and Oklahoma are near the Pacific coast.

I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for that (Pac-10 expansion) to happen ;) But those teams were chosen, I’m sure, because they are obviously significantly better then the options closer to the coast and the league does want to raise it’s competitivness, at least in football.

Extra tough given that Guzman had driven in the would-be winning run in the top of the 9th.

Regarding our conversation yesterday: I have made a personal decision to view Mac’s poor start with RISP as his way of banking run producing hits for the end of the season–when we are in a race for the postseason. I grew up out west and I must say if you are a Sports fan that is the place to live. Baseball games can start as early as 10 am and last until 11pm some days. During football season games start at 10 am and we could watch the super bowl and still go to bed at a reasonable time. Everytime my Braves go out west or the NBA season starts (clipper Fan) I get that longing to move home. DOB, you’re probably thinking, “Oh, but the weather, the glamour, the girls, the sunset strip…” It gets old after about 3 years. I have no idea what effect a nuke would have…but I seriously did hear this dude on TV talking about how the Russians have used nukes to fix some similiar leaks off their shore…that the nuke melts enough of the earth that it seals the well.

Of course, this would also probably turn some fish into Godzilla, and then a couple of our pitchers would freak out.

Yeah, Dempsey’s the bomb. He and Landon seem to be playing well together, too. The team looks like it has good chemistry like the 2002 team. I find Findley to be pretty predictable when he gets the ball. He always takes it to the end line and goes for a cross. Good defenders are going to shut him down.

yup I agree Beast, I am not a fan of Findley, I would rather have had Ching, hold up someone who could kill the game if we were ahead..but we saw how Dempsey did vs Turkey as a striker, he wasnt even in the game, he seemed bored..he needs to be in the midfield with Landon, and if we could get the final 16 awesome!!, I have good faith we can win it all if we play to our potential and everyone does their jobs..I mean we had Brasil on the ropes for 1 half, if we didnt give away 2 cheap goals, we woulda won that game..I totally blew off my ex-girlfriend at the times birthday for that match, ah well.

As well you should. How could you not watch that game after we beat Spain? Torres said after the game that U.S.A. is as good as any team when they play well and together. As long as the D holds up we should be fine. England always finds a way to not show up, and even if we have to play Germany in Rd.2 they have no Ballack and no D.

Colin

haha exactly, I didnt care girls come and go…yup we could beat Germany for sure! and Spain is my favorite to win it, my heart favorite USA and if the US goes out Argentina..I don’t want Brasil to win, I hate their cocky attitudes.

I’m going to be most interested in how the back line performs. In 2002, once they got Agoos out of there, the back line was a huge reason why they beat Mexico and why only a superhuman effort by Oliver Kahn kept the US out of the semis.

jeffery d, c’mon, you gotta pull for the little guy. I do understand SEC fans who are uber critical of other schools because, well, why not be? Just not my personal belief. If BSU gets past Va Tech, then they’re probably gonna play in NC game. The preseason poll set it up to happen. If I have to watch Ohio State get pummeled again, then I will be greatly disappointed.

For me, nothing will replace the 1991 Twins (followed them all the way from their dismal April through the 15-game winning streak in June up to that epic series with the Braves), but the 2007 Dragons came damn close. On what felt like a last hurrah (It was a veteran-laden team, and we all knew Kenshin and Kosuke were MLB-bound soon), the Dragons tore through the Central League playoffs (9-1) and erased a Cubs-like 53-year title drought by throwing a perfect game in the clincher.

At a time when we are besieged by extremist, take-the-low-road differences of opinion and voices that feel the need to scream obscenities, Joyce, Galarraga and Leyland demonstrated the best of instincts. Chipper’s Life before, during and after an AB:

Before the AB:
Chipper to himself: Ok Chip, remember, do not swing at anything if possible, specially at those outside pitches, wait for the walk. Remember it.
During the AB:
Chipper to himself: Ok old man, dont swing at anything outside, you know what’s gonna happen… here it comes, remember, don’t do it… here… aaah *makes a weak, one-handed, short, unbalance swing, hitting a tapper/grounder right at the second baseman for the out/4-6-3 DP*.. Damnit!
After the AB:
Chipper to trainers: I think I hurt my ring finger.
Trainers: How?
Chipper: Well, while hustling (smirk) down the line I felt some pain in my superior oblique muscle, I tried to stop running and that’s when I pulled left my groin.
Trainers: I thought you said you hurt your finger, how was that?
Chipper: I dont know, I tried to signal you guys with my hand to come check me out, and the finger just broke.

If Minor is sitting 91-93 like the new reports say, then he’s a potential no.2 if the command goes back to the superb stuff he’s previously showed. If the velo is the same as in college, he’s at best a 4. He still needs some work in the minors, tightening the stuff, getting used to pro ball, that kind of thing. He’ll be ready soon, though.

Player B is hitting .286 with 10 homers and 42 rbi

Player A is Jason Bay and the mets signed him for 66 million for 4 years while Troy Glaus was signed for 1 year 1.75 million. I think its fair to say Wren got a steal.

Yeah Colin but the mets knew what kind of park they had and it was their choice to sign him. Pitching was what they needed the most and it makes sense in that park and they chose to go with Bay. Sopheeee,

Love doubles & triples hitters. Much more polished ballplayers IMHO & much more fun to watch. Martin said the other day the game is different these days with the HR hitters. It was in the Charlie Manuel/Prado/All-Star game article on here the other day. Martin is much too humble. Manuel said players like Prado is what the game is becoming again (play different positions, can hit, etc…). The game is finding its way back to a healthy medium of small-ball/wait for the 3-run HR, again in the post-roid era, and it’s nice to see.

One thing DOB said on the air which I haven’t heard yet, is that Martin hasn’t had a lot of recognition because the league & baseball fans had only 1 offseason to think about him as the Braves full time 2nd baseman since he took over at 2nd last year midseason. He really had lots of good things to say about Martin.

Glaus is hot by anybody’s standards right now, but you know what? His .858 OPS (after the HR) is right in line with his career .855. He’s a very good hitter, who missed a year due to injury. I’m not saying I expected him to be this good, but we really shouldn’t be so surprised.

Vin Scully on Medlen’s high first pitch strike percentage:

Nah, I don’t see his command as good enough to be a 2, Rob. He leaves a few too many FBs over the middle for my liking, but he’s seemed to get away with them so far this season. Not too many, of course, but it’s something I’ve noticed. He’s been very good this year, but keep in mind that exposure has been limited, and I think it’s very hard to expect him to keep this pace up. Plus, his stuff isn’t overpowering and I think he’ll have trouble pitching past the 6th inning on a regular basis if he’s a member of the rotation because you see a lot of guys put tough ABs on him and force him to throw some pitches. Not tonight, of course, but in past games. Nitpicky, I know, but it’s something. Maybe he’s a 3. Who knows? He’s really valuable to the team, that’s for sure.

I would like to see him throw his curve more.

As the trade deadline nears and more teams will be looking for starting help, maybe Kawakami could bring us something good in return. Minimally get rid of the 7K a year salary.

Bobbeeee's Cox

Colin

June 4th, 2010

Bobbeeee's Cox

Being back home to pitch fired up Medlen….he pitched a great game. Just hope Pete does better than he did his last time out, when he gave up 3 consecutive doubles.

Mitchell

June 4th, 2010
12:30 am

Let’s go Peter.

chilidog75

June 4th, 2010
12:32 am

This might be the last time Moylan pitches in a meaningful game for a while. He’s just been really really bad against righties — and that’s who he’s paid to get out.

James

June 4th, 2010
12:32 am

Dangit. Why didnt Brian get on the plate. But first of all why didnt no one back up 3rd

Trey

June 4th, 2010
12:32 am

Mixxo we can still win.

Troy Glaus

June 4th, 2010

Medlen should have been on a shorter leash … that’s kinda on Bobby

Huh? He was pitching great. Dumb post.

JC from DR!

June 4th, 2010
12:33 am

That was out at home. But Bobby doesn’t agree with any extra replays. Good.

Snotboogieee

June 4th, 2010
12:33 am

Two things:

Nicely done by Dewitt to avoid the tag.
Everything moved runners up and DP chances bleak right now.

What a time for Heyward’s first major mistake.

Trey

June 4th, 2010
12:33 am

Worried Mind, they will not lose it.

I Wear No Pants

June 4th, 2010

David O'Brien

June 4th, 2010

Furcal’s groundout drives in third run of the inning. Potential tying run at third with two out and Kemp up.

James

June 4th, 2010
12:34 am

Well 3 runs charged to Meds

Brave4life- 1995 all over again

June 4th, 2010

MFin04

June 4th, 2010

Jason Heyward’s arm in right field is quite inaccurate isn’t it? And Brian McCann sure knows how to give up runs at home plate.

chilidog75

June 4th, 2010
12:35 am

Heck, I’d walk him. As poor as Moylan has been against righties.

Brave4life- 1995 all over again
