i think if you are gonna do the wait and see approach, don’t you have to bring up a reliable arm for bobby to use in his place.. such as resop or kimbrel or even dunn.(send back martinez) with saito cox has 5 guys he trusts in the late innings, without him it’s down to 4. that’s three worthless spots in our pen. similar to last year with reyes, bennett, and acosta.
Now that you mention think about it, “TNT” probably isn’t the best song for a relief pitcher entering a pressure situation with runners on base, you know what I mean?
Yeah, I would consider changing it to “Dirty Deeds.”
DOB: Venters gets credit for the strikeout, along with the save
That’s interesting. There was a situation not more than a few days ago where a pitcher, can’t recall who, came in, mid-at-bat, and finished off a walk. The walk was charged to the other pitcher. I believe it was a Phillies game. So the rule is, the walk goes to the first pitcher, the strike out to the second? That’s a win/win.
I’d be happier if the K went to Saito and the Save to Venters… mainly because it would flow in line with some of the weird stats in history… four K innings. A save without recording an out, etc. (actually in that circumstance it’d be a save without Venters being involved in a single play. Reading the box score it would appear he just stood on the mound and got the save. He could use that to build his rep. Very imposing.)
you recently mentioned Farm Burger in the Atlanta area .. and you are now in the land of In-N-Out-Burger. Could you shed some light on those chains .. for those of us who haven’t experience dining at either of those establishments … maybe a compare/contrast? Also, If you had three burger places in a row .. near you house .. Farm Burger .. In-N-Out .. and 5 Guys .. would you have a favorite .. or would each place win out on certain occasions?
Charlotte Observer, as much as I love In-N-Out Burger, and as good as 5 Guys is as well, they can’t hold a candle to Farm Burger. In-N-Out Burger is great and cheap and fresh, but Farm Burger’s one of the better burgers I’ve ever had. Different experience. Far more substantial burger, cooked perfectly, higher grade of beef, better bun, better fries, better cheese and toppings. Just better. And a lot better atmosphere (but you don’t go to In-N-Out for atmosphere, if you go inside at all (they have the drive-thru option there).
It costs about twice as much to eat there, but still very reasonable for the amount and quality of food. You’ve done some research online, so you’ve seen how unique is the whole concept behind Farm Burger.
If I was in a hurry and didn’t want to spend much money, I’d go to In-N-Out. And since they are all over the place out here, they’re convenient. And don’t get me wrong, I think In-N-Out tastes great. My favorite burger chain, or right there with Fat Burger. 5 Guys is real good, too. But Farm Burger’s a whole different level.
Best burgers I’ve had were at Port of Call in New Orleans and Le Tub in Hollywood Beach (Fla.), and Farm Burger is pretty close. I’ll have to go a few more times before deciding if it belongs quite in that class, but it’s at least close.
I’m joining late today, but see that Don (incredibally) is at it again. I guess his head has not exploded yet after all.
It’s hard to believe he could be cranking out the same old line, when what Cox and the Braves are doing is succeeding so well.
It’s like “if we could just get rid of that fool Bobby, we’d be playing much better, and probably be in first place right now. In fact, we probably could have won at least 9 games in a row by now, if only we could get rid of Bobby”.
Don, you are embarassing yourself, and are too dumb to know it. Better to be thought of as a fool, than to open your mouth and prove it. I say this, even though I don’t believe in personal attacks on other bloggers. With you, I just can’t help it.
I think Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes would be a great intro song for a reliever. I’m gonna fight em all, a seven nation army couldn’t hold me back. The beat to that song is great and would sound cool blasting through the stadium speakers while the reliever is making his way in.
Of course it would be even better if one of the players in the lineup were using Seven Nation Army as their intro song coming to the plate. Then you would get to hear it 4 or 5 times a game.
FlintRiverFunk: if only the fellas would allow us to pick their songs, rather than dipping from the same pool of about 20 tired songs that are so overplayed at sporting events….
DOB–So are the players given a list of songs to pick from? If so, that kinda stinks. Most of the songs that I would pick if I were a player probably wouldn’t be on that list. OK, jeffrey d wins the trivia, since he was the only one that guessed. The actual number of current and former Braves who have appeared in 2010 is 80, 49 of which are not current Braves. Seeing that Bruce Chen was still pitching got me thinking about it. Here are the guys who played for the Braves the longest ago who have appeared in a MLB game this year, with year of their Braves debut:
1. Chipper Jones, 1993
2. Andruw Jones, 1996
3. Kevin Millwood, 1997
4. Bruce Chen, 1998
4. Wes Helms, 1998
4. Mark DeRosa, 1998
The most random name I found (in other words, I have no memory of him) was Joe Nelson, a Braves draftee who appeared in two games with the Braves in 2001, didn’t pitch at all in the majors in 2002, 2003, 2005, or 2007, but finds himself in Boston’s bullpen this year at the age of 35.
Not sure if this has been posted already–Kotchman just broke record for errorless chances at 1B.
Seattle’s Casey Kotchman has broken Kevin Youkilis’ major league record for consecutive errorless chances by a first baseman with 2,003.
Kotchman set the mark in the second inning Thursday night against Minnesota, breaking Youkilis’ mark when he cleanly caught Josh Wilson’s throw to get Nick Punto to end the inning.

The Braves have not hit double digits in strikeouts (batting Ks, that is) in the last 20 games. If they can keep from doing so against Kershaw and the Dodgers tonight, they will have their longest such streak since 2003. They are in 16-4 in these 20 games, by the way…
Don’s posts are pretty easy to avoid – not very short and dont have the extra eees. And even for a deranged person who couldnt find a silver lining in a silver cloud, his tone is quite bearable. Not like PL.
I agree with BAS though, all these extra ees are making the post-identification a little more difficult. All for a good cause though.
Last night was the 14th game this year that the Braves hitters walked more than they struck out. I thought that would be the most in baseball, but the Twins have actually done it 17 times. Very impressive. The Padres (11) are the only other team who have done it more than 9 times. The Braves are 11-3 in those 14 games.
Bruce, Cox told us before the game that Wagner was probably going to get the night off (I noted in here in comments before the game started). He pitched Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday. That’s pushing it for a 38-year-old who missed most of last season after Tommy John surgery.
The Braves have had at least 10 baserunners in 24 of their last 25 games. Darn that one blowout loss to the D-Backs, or that would be an impressive streak.

Hey man, muchos apologies for the Vin Scully quote last night. I thought you were giving me a hard time for quoting him during the game last night, so I thought I’d mess with you. However I got flagged 15 yards for unnecessary roughness on the play. Really, sorry man, I shoulda put a little winking smiley face on it or something. Or I guess I coulda wrote something that was actually funny.

FlintRiverFunk Maybe McCann doesn’t want to block the plate because he’s worried he might scratch his glasses. I kid, I kid….
Yeah, you are. He doesn’t even wear his glasses to catch.

I think McFann needs to go to the AAA blog to work things out. We can’t have her yelling everything at this level.

But the Twins are also on pace to set an MLB record for most double plays.

I hope he picks it up soon or his all-star streak will be broken.
Perhaps he will get going if you wore a Can to the next home game. Or wear it at home while they are on the road.
