Ethier is back on DL?
McFann ;Ô; ;Ô;
June 3rd, 20104:51 pm
Thanks for the new Blog, Chief!
Yes, it seems strange typing McCann’s name between those others in a stat about RISP hitting.
It’s disgusting…SOMEday, it won’t have to be like this anymore…
what happened to the Wren haters?
June 3rd, 20104:52 pm
MAN, that was a long blog entry, DOB. But good work on it.
Agreed. I remember them moving Millwood when he was 1 year from free agency for Johnny Estrada.
And even he probably would not have been moved but for Maddux accepting arbitration that year. Soriano was not the first pitcher to monkey-wrench an offseason in that fashion, LOL.
This blog was hiding… Go Braves! Make it 9 tonight F-LA
June 3rd, 20104:53 pm
Funny stuff about Man Ram…..what a joke….until he gets to the plate anyway.
That said, 3-8 roadtrip…..but I’ll take it.
June 3rd, 20104:54 pm
Ethier has played the last 3 games.
June 3rd, 20104:55 pm
Eric: No, Ethier’s not on DL. Unfortunately for Braves. I’d already written that graph a while back, forgot to change it before I stuck it in blog.
one of my 3 favorite all-time. is this another song he wrote before he turned 20?
was driving in my rental car on a traffic-clogged freeway near Dodger Stadium yesterday listening on the radio when Garret Anderson got his game-ending hit in 14th inning, thereby releasing tens of thousands of Dodger fans into rush hour traffic (it was a 12:05 p.m. start, a rush-hour finish). – DOB
I was watching the game on MLB Network…based on the stands, it might be more appropriate to say that they released “tens of Dodger fans into rush hour traffic.”
Also, did Ethier go back on the DL? He was playing yesterday, but it’s possible he got hurt again and I didn’t hear about it.
June 3rd, 20104:56 pm
It’s inevitable that when things are going bad – and things were pretty darn bad for the Braves – fans will want to hold somebody accountable, whether he’s deserving or not. Wren had signed Glaus, and Glaus was stinking it up. Wren had traded “our best pitcher,” 3 out of our 5 remaining pitchers were struggling mightily. Clearly these moves are now seeming to pay off, but at the time to the casual fan it made Wren look like a doof.
Sorry, posted my question on Ethier before I saw DOB’s correction. Also, thanks for the new blog!
June 3rd, 20104:59 pm
Yes. I get to go to a concert, and not miss any baseball.
Drive by Truckers are playing a free show in Knoxville, TN on June 17th.
June 3rd, 20105:00 pm
Phillies run production
before and including Colorado
5.4 runs per game
3.2 runs per game
3 of these games after Colorado came against Milwaukee whose pitchers would give up 6 runs to a little league team and the 4th was against Pittsburgh and Charlie Morton
take out the 35 runs scored in those 4 games
1.7 runs per game
record 4-11 against teams with a real pitching staff
Not quite as potent a line-up when they cannot use the spy binoculars in the bullpen.
The dodgers are hot, but they’re not equally hot. Our win streak = 8, their win streak = 4, therefore, we’re twice as hot.
Just read this in a story:
it appears the Pac-10, which has its meetings in San Francisco starting this weekend, is prepared to make a bold move and invite Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Colorado to join its league, according to multiple sources close to the situation
First of all, WOW! Second, it’s a bit of a stretch to say that schools in Texas and Oklahoma are near the Pacific coast.
June 3rd, 20105:01 pm
Oh, and welcome back DOB!
June 3rd, 20105:03 pm
I can’t stand Matt Kemp. I think I made that clear the other day when I was saying how he had the most arrogant smirk on his face during that little p**** bickering fight between LA/Arz. Lets get a big lead and drill that punk in the ribs.
MEDLEN will have over 10 family memebers in the stands tonight. And severa in Ariz for his Tuesday start. GO BRAVES. Boomer–Do this for Mean Jean the Floatin Machine
They also have scored 2 runs over their past two games, both of which went into extra innings. But their pitching held the Diamondbacks scoreless for those games, so I guess it evens out.
June 3rd, 20105:04 pm
It’s May 34th and its sunny outside and I’m ready for winning Braves baseball!
June 3rd, 20105:05 pm
I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for that (Pac-10 expansion) to happen But those teams were chosen, I’m sure, because they are obviously significantly better then the options closer to the coast and the league does want to raise it’s competitivness, at least in football.
I had to giggle at the “nearby Norwalk” comment in the blog…guess it depends on your definition of “nearby”
June 3rd, 20105:06 pm
Long, but very good article DOB…you must have time to kill. If so, stop over at Chassens and have the chili and iced tea, and put it on my tab.
June 3rd, 20105:07 pm
Yeah, Meds looks like a 12 yr old. No doubt. He looks so much younger in public too because he’s got somewhat of a skater boy style. Here’s the photo of the wife with Meds when we met him.
June 3rd, 20105:08 pm
Have you eaten at Philippe’s yet? Great LA tradition
Are you going to any of these games?
June 3rd, 20105:09 pm
DOB, all things considered, where do you rank Griff Jr among his generation and all-time?
Holy cow! He does look young enough to be my younger brother! Haha! Thanks for posting…
VJ and I are going on Saturday
Sweet walk-off ding dong for Carlos Lee vs. the Nats after Guzman chokes in RF on the third out of the inning for the W.
June 3rd, 20105:10 pm
cabravesfan–I may still see you Saturday night. Tonights is the game for me though
June 3rd, 20105:11 pm
Here in Virginia, we know Enter Sandman very well. Virginia Tech uses it for their entrance for football games. We are very proud of Billy, and hope that he will indeed stay another year.
Nice, the Nats just got swept by the Astros.
T for Texas
You seriously crack me up, man. I have to agree that the “I could care less…” grammatically incorrect statement of indignation, only fosters more indignation, creating a global indignation surplus.
June 3rd, 20105:12 pm
SoCal Mom -
I would have loved to see Meds pitch but we didn’t get to pick the game (Not that I mind seeing the other SoCal kid pitch on Saturday…)
Brian from SC
You know what would be cool…if we swept LA and the D-Backs get swept this weekend, then our series next week would be between a team that has won 12 in a row vs. a team that has lost 13 in a row. I bet that’s never happened before.
June 3rd, 20105:13 pm
If you haven’t had a chance to watch that, it the best of the MLB. We get on these guys all of the time about not respecting the wonderful opportunities they have. But it certainly does not apply to all of them.
Good stuff. On the AL side, I’m rooting for the Tigers the rest of the way.
I may go Sat since his parents will be in towwn, and I could actually spend some time with him before the game
June 3rd, 20105:16 pm
Cabravesfan: No, but I did it a killer smoked-brisket pizza at Cheebo on Sunset Blvd. yesterday.
DOB–Make sure you head to the park plenty early–with the Lakers playoff game at 6 it is going to be a madhouse onthe freeway
June 3rd, 20105:17 pm
Why in the world was Christian Guzman playing RF in a 9 inning game? Riggleman over-managing a little bit there?
Extra tough given that Guzman had driven in the would-be winning run in the top of the 9th.
Oooooo LA! In and Out Burger, yummmmmmmmm!
June 3rd, 20105:18 pm
It’s a great old place that recently celebrated it’s 100th year…home of the French Dip (although they have other things that are equally as good) and 9 cent coffee
Why in the world was Christian Guzman playing RF in a 9 inning game? Riggleman over-managing a little bit there? Glen W.
Excellent question. Who knows?
June 3rd, 20105:19 pm
He won’t have to take the freeway if he’s downtown already
June 3rd, 20105:20 pm
When’s the last time you ate somewhere on the road that sucked?
Good grief Guzman had played 31 innings in RF this year coming into today.
June 3rd, 20105:22 pm
At least you’ll get to see Hanson pitch! Hope it’ll be a good one!
Where will you be sitting?
June 3rd, 20105:23 pm
Nats struggling to make Bernadina their RF, but he hasn’t taken to the opportunity so far. .241/.295/.402
June 3rd, 20105:25 pm
YAWN……Just back fromthe office an think I’ll go take a nap. Lakers-Celtics at 9 AND Braves-Dodgers at 10. Ummm…sounds like a 1am bed-time. Gotta nap….I’m getting old!
but he hasn’t taken to the opportunity so far. .241/.295/.402
That’s not good for an outfielder? Huh?
June 3rd, 20105:27 pm
I love that video of Jim Joyce getting the lineup card! I do feel bad for him…so glad the fans clapped for him today. And I really liked it when he and Galarrga patted each other on the back!
We are about 10-12 rows back almost directly behind home plate
June 3rd, 20105:29 pm
Not sure why they would want to move and be in contention annually with SC and some of those other schools for a Conference Championship. Isn’t there enough of a fight where they already are?
June 3rd, 20105:30 pm
Oh yeah, to comment on Ol Frank Wren and the job he’s doing. I Loved a lot of his moves (Glaus, Hinske, Wagner, Saito and even getting Melky AND yprospect Vizcaino). I characterize Wren as a GREAT Yard Sale Shopper and a like my wife with the Credit Card on pay day when it comes to the Big Money items…..just does not have the eye for High Dollar Values!
June 3rd, 20105:31 pm
LOL. All a matter of perspective…
DOB did you pass Deadman’s Curve? Its right past Doheny on Sunset LOL
June 3rd, 20105:32 pm
I’ve never sat right behind homeplate, but my favorite place to sit is where we sat for BMac’s rehab game–GREAT seats! Though if it were at Turner Field, I’d wanna be on the other side so I could spy on the Braves’ dugout…
cab, wear a I love Marteen shirt so we recognize you! Tell VJ to wear a W&M shirt.
June 3rd, 20105:33 pm
what happens on the board if the Dodgers sweep us?
June 3rd, 20105:34 pm
Danga-When Prado bats, hold up a sign with a bunch of EEEEEE’s and distract the Dodger’s pitcher.
June 3rd, 20105:35 pm
noleeee-Mass suicide and a bout of major depression leading to a boom in sales of tranquilizers?
what happens on the board if the Dodgers sweep us?
something about famine, locust and the mayan calendar…
McFann ;Ô; ;Ô;
I saw that and I got a bit misty-eyed too….still have a lump in my throat.
Can’t help it. Even through all the hate I get here, I’m a sensitive guy.
June 3rd, 20105:36 pm
Wailing and gnashing of teeth.
June 3rd, 20105:37 pm
For comparison: Melky .235/.305/.295, Heyward .287/.412/.563
Not sweatin’ it doode, we’ll win one out of these four. No problem.
That weren’t me Lew. Though my brother and I do have killer seats for Bobby’s last home game (in the regular season). I think CAB we’ll need to be the one with the sign with a bunch of e’s.
I would if I had one
I love horse tranquilizers
June 3rd, 20105:38 pm
I might pass out before the game starts, I’m too drugged out HHHHH- That burned ouch.
June 3rd, 20105:39 pm
T for texas, it was just a joke as Bernadina is out hitting 2 of our 3 regulars out there (until Hinske started playing).
I had a hunch that Heyward might be doing a wee bit better.
I would also do that if they allowed signs into Dodger Stadium…
June 3rd, 20105:40 pm
McFannie, Hey honey, wanna have a date?
cab,uh,white shirt and magic marker means I love Marteen.lol
June 3rd, 20105:41 pm
Buck thgis bLog Ive had enough. Give me death.
Sorry Glen, didn’t mean to condescend…sometimes hard to ferret out the sarcasm from the cluelessness.
June 3rd, 20105:42 pm
You have heard what they do to opposing fans, right?
June 3rd, 20105:43 pm
Sorry Glen, didn’t mean to condescend… sometimes hard to ferret out the sarcasm from the cluelessness.
No worries at all. And if I stick around long enough I eventually say something stupid enough that will warrant someone correcting my clueless remark.
*comment under serious scrutiny*
Mixxo Can’t help it. Even through all the hate I get here, I’m a sensitive guy.
Oh yeah, I got teary-eyed, too.…and I haven’t hated on you much this year, have I?
PS–How are those babies doing?
BUCk- I need peope to tALK to Mee. I need attention or i get real depressed. TALK TO ME. Love me PLZZZZZ
June 3rd, 20105:45 pm
cabravesfan, wear a panama hat and take a radar gun and hold it up. It will confuse everyone watching on TV when you see two of them.
The Manny tidbit about meeting his team mates coming back to the dugout ain’t surprising. Made me giggle.
June 3rd, 20105:46 pm
gotta say that the first version of that song I heard was the Teri Clark version… man she had a huge neck! When my kids were toddlers, they loved that song just because of the chorus!
Man, this is gonna be a heck of a series! Wish I could watch. I do appreciate whoever provided the link from the Cleveland, TN station… at least got to listen.
June 3rd, 20105:47 pm
I guess it would be one of them, but people would still be confused. Brito hasn’t been there seen they put in the luxury seats, I think.
June 3rd, 20105:48 pm
…LOL. You know, I often wondered if anyone had ever noticed that… haven’t seen the guy lately, though. Looked for him last time they showed a dodgers home game, and didn’t see him.
gotta get at least a split in dodger town.
I have a feeling Medlen is going to lose tonight.
hope i’m wrong.
Danga-Misread the heading and thought you psosted it. Anyway, EEEEEE’s need to make an LA appearance tonight and many votes cast for Marteeeeen..
June 3rd, 20105:49 pm

June 3rd, 20105:51 pm
Regarding our conversation yesterday: I have made a personal decision to view Mac’s poor start with RISP as his way of banking run producing hits for the end of the season–when we are in a race for the postseason. When he has massive RBI totals in August and September we will know where all those hits with RISP, that he isn’t getting now, have been.
McFann ;Ô; ;Ô; – Oh no Hon, not at all….we’re good you & I. ♥
Not good news on the babies. I looked in on them the other day and they looked dead….real dead. Also, one of the eggs hasn’t hatched of no sign of the parents. Only thing I can think of is, there seemed to be some mold on the inside wall of the nest before they hatched. We’ve had a ton of rain lately and I was x-tra careful not to water the eggs when I watered the plant. I just don’t know. Poor things.
June 3rd, 20105:52 pm
