Jair Jurrjens threw a bullpen session before Saturday’s game against the Pirates but could still be several weeks away from returning to the Braves’ rotation.
After being cleared by a doctor Friday to step up his rehabilitation from a strained left hamstring, the right-hander said he felt good after throwing off a mound.
“JJ had a really good day,” Braves manager Bobby Cox said.
Cox said Jurrjens would have to throw three or four more bullpen sessions and some simulated games before making a minor-league rehabilitation start.
Jurrjens, 0-3 with a 6.58 ERA in five starts this season, injured his hamstring preparing for a start against St. Louis on April 29 and had to be pulled after one inning. He suffered a setback while running in Milwaukee earlier this month. An MRI didn’t reveal a significant tear but enough swelling to cost him more several weeks.

Major League Pitchers are the biggest pansies. A “strained” left hamstring? And every interview he says ” I feel great”. WTF?!!!!
Then get out there and pitch. People would be absolutely killing Chipper Jones if he were out with the same injury. It’s outrageous.
Bob Horner could pull anybodys fastball

Snickerz—-you are showing your ignorance. do you realize how important a pitchers legs are? if he pitches with this problem it can lead to more problems…duh

Maybe I am being ignorant but it seems pretty weak to me. Other athletes need their legs but they would not be out for so long with this particular injury. I mean all told it looks like he will miss close to 2 months. Shouldn’t there be a broken bone or something.

A pitchers legs are hugely critical. It’s where your drive to the plate is generated. If a pitcher can’t generate good drive off the rubber and explode to the plate, his fastball is doomed and everything else follows. And no, a significant muscle strain and definitely a tear can take all season, or better yet the entire off season to heal thoroughly. I can tell you that from personal experience. Still gives be problems til this very day sometimes.

JJ is way to important long term for the Braves to rush him back..and they aren’t, which is a good thing.
Resign or Re-sign?

Will be good to get JJ back, whenever it is; but Medlin is pitching his way into the rotation while JJ is out!

Good to hear JJ getting back to pitching. He could make a huge impact when he returns. I wonder who will come out of the rotation when he returns. I mean I know most people want Medlin in there, but maybe KK will hit his stride and be successful.
