this year’s trade bait,,N. McClouth, M Diaz, M Cabrera, D Lowe(if we could be so lucky-not), S Proctor(when he gets ready), J Chavez, and maybe T Glaus(depending on where we’re at in June)..at this point of the season, it doesn’t look to appetizing to other teams, does it?

Tomas,
It’s not Berkman’s defense that concerns me. It’s Berkman getting injured while trying to play defense that I want to avoid.

The yanks could probably use Berkman. A lot better than Nick Johnson if he can stay healthy. That’s the rub. Can he stay healthy. young DH players are hard to find. Good glove and no bat don’t make it very far in the minors so they usually don’t break into the bigs with the bat only. Brooksy wouldn’t be in Atlanta if he couldn’t throw the leather like crazy. Like his attitude…gutsy guy…kind of like Keith Lockhardt…in the minors forever and gets a break.

Look at Hinske, he isn’t exactly covering a ton of real state but he gets the routine outs, and nobody cares because he has been hitting. Same thing with Berkman if you ask me.

With the way the Braves are sending Schafer to minor league affiliates close to Atlanta kind of gives me the feeling it will be a rehab stint and soon as he is ready, which he seems to be progressing well, he will coming back to the Show really soon especially if CF continues to struggle. Schafer has been hitting well and playing good defense so the wrist seems to be getting stronger…good news.

jack bull,
Listing all of our underperforming players does not justify the team’s “trade bait”. If the Braves do fall out of contention and find themselves serious sellers at the deadline, then add Billy Wagner, Takashi Saito, Eric Hinske, Omar Infante, and Peter Moylan to your list (and take Chavez off….he’s not even into arbitration years yet). None of those pieces are going to get a huge prospect, but they could definitely bring back useful pieces for the future.
That being said, I see very little chance the Braves are sellers by the deadline, even if maybe they should be.

You do realize that if we’re doing well enough to be in the race by the trade deadline that we will have had much better performances from those who ain’t now?

Lew, as I said, he had knee surgery this year, came off the DL, and hasn’t had problem since with the exception of a minor groin issue. For the players he Houston writer suggested and the money they’ll give, Berkman would be a free gift almost. Where would he play?? He played the outfield for all those years, just because he had knee surgery doesn’t mean he can’t do it anymore. Besides he got knee surgery to fix his knees, so he should be running without pain.

Braves lineup if it didn’t make it over here from my tweet: 1. Prado 2B, 2. Heyward RF, 3. Jones 3B, 4. McCann C, 5. Glaus 1B, 6. Hinske LF, 7. Infante SS, 8. McLouth CF, 9. Kawakami P.
Bobby said it was the lineup he was thinking of going with before Chipper had the groin issue in Milwaukee. So you get your wish to see Martin Prado in the leadoff spot and this gets Heyward’s speed up higher in the order.

MRI showed no further tear but he’s still got what Jurrjens said was “blood in the muscle.” He’s been told he’ll need three weeks for that hamstring to heal and likely won’t start throwing until after that point. So he’ll need time to build back up. Looks like mid-to-late June for a target return date.

Batting Heyward 2nd is idiocy!!
Prado has been ideal in the 2 hole. why change what IS working. Heyward has been our top RBI man. With no hits coming from the last 2 spots in the order and only Prado in front of him, he will have very few opportunities to drive in runs. He belongs in the 3 hole now — he is ready, but on this team he might be used to best advantage hitting 4th — ahead of the slower Glaus and McCann, and in a position where there might be runners on ahead of him. If Infante is playing short tonight, he should lead off!

“I would love to hear from others the possibility of Escobar being moved, and what we gain/lose with Infante as a regular at SS.”
Escobar seems to brood a lot and doesn’t seem to communicate well with the other players. Not sure what’s going on in the locker room, public perception isn’t always accurate, but I would think he would be more comfortable on a team with a clique of Spanish speaking players he gets along with.
That said, flaws and all he’s an above average shortstop offensively and defensively; highlight reel at times. Which is why it’s so exasperating watching him make mindless mistakes. The only way I’d move him is to get an overwhelming offer in return; if the Braves drift out of the race I’d want a can’t miss shortstop prospect from a contender wanting Escobar’s experience now plus an above average everyday starting outfielder or a Jurrgens type pitcher. Can’t get that, trade Cadahila to get Escobar a wife or girlfriend to calm him down and provide some focus.
Infante is not an everyday shortstop. Below average athleticism, range, arm, DP turn skill. Over the long haul he hurts the pitching staff; we saw some of his limitations recently. He can hit, though, in the context of a middle infielder.
Many people don’t seem to understand (or don’t want to understand) the immigration issue for most people advocating law enforcement is NOT AT ALL about left vs. right politics or race or lack of compassion. It just isn’t, and people are beyond fed up with the politicians and race-baiters spinning it that way. We just blogged about the biggest factor in the Braves rise in attendance being Jason Heyward. We love Escobar, Jurrgens, etc. We’re all over Chipper and McLouth for not upholding their end. Sports transcends race and nationalities (as does our culture in general if you’re really honest about the situation); we’re WAY past profiling and incidious racism. The foreign players understand to go home when the season is over and their visas expire, understand to renew them to get back here for spring training. We’re glad Escobar is here (presumably legally); we’re not checking papers before the national anthem. We don’t want or need MLB or player’s association boycotting All-Star games; frankly, the prospect is offensive.

Dumb line-up. I don’t like it.
You cannot keep building your offense around an injury-prone 38 year old. We have to stop putting Chipper in the position to be a major run producer. It would be amazing at this point if he ends the season with 12 homeruns.
Chipper should be moved down the order and should focus on being a singles and doubles hitter. That he knows how to do.
Jason shouldn’t bat second. For better or worse, Nate is our lead-off hitter. That’s where he should bat. He has better speed than Martin.
Anyway, if Bobby’s going to leave Chipper batting third then Jason should bat behind him, not in front of.
An ideal line-up would be:
Nate
Prado
Jason
Glaus
McCann
Hinske
Chipper
Omar
It’s time for Jason to take over.

I’m sure that we do things in Georgia that people in Arizona don’t like, but do you see them protesting the braves when they come to town? No. Why don’t we also protest anyone that travels here from Arizona? Have delta stop all flights to Arizona? Have Sonny mandate the death penalty seen on Georgia streets? Let me empasize that these are my own thoughts, but as one who works on immigration issues, I’m not so sure of a racist bent to the AZ laws. I believe, strongly, in the importance of immigration to the vigorous growth of our country, but there is a legal way to go about this. Those that have chosen to enter illegally don’t get much sympathy in my book. One may certainly voice concern about profiling, but at the end of the day, if you’re here legally, what’s the issue? Those here illegally are the ones who will face problems.
Just one man’s opinion, again, but not sure why there’s so much passion here over a law that seems to simply turn the tide against illegal immigration. Illegal is illegal.
Now, can we go back to baseball issues?

Let’s let him continue learning the ins & outs of the bigs at his own pace – he’s got enough on his plate without have the pressure of the team on his back as well.
Let one of our veterans “take over” – somebody like McCann, Escobar, Chipper…etc. who are certainly capable but currently NOT earning their respective paychecks.

Everyone needs to give this new lineup a chance, everyone seems to want to move Chipper out of the heart of the order. The man will get hot. Why is everyone still; complaining when we get Heyward and Chipper in the lineup at same time and now coming off a sweep and a Hot Glaus and a McCann you think would be breaking out here shortly and Hinske getting more AB’s. ncscoots, I agree 100% with that post at 6:43. I’m not crazy about having a RBI machine hitting 2nd, but I too understand why Bobby would want to try it for a little bit. I don’t think it’ll hurt because Glaus has been solid and I think McCann will start hitting here soon. But I can see them getting some kind of leadoff guy and maybe soon. Heyward will be hitting cleanup before too much longer, I predict. CJ will of course be #3 in the order as long as he’s a brave under Bobby Cox, imo.

Don’t think it amounts to a hill of beans in the big picture, though.
Nah, me either. I do wonder, though, how so many here think he’s going to produce more runs hitting behind 8-pitcher-Prado than Chipper-Glaus-McCann. I mean, that boggles, does it not?

Is anyone aware that the HEY! song played at all sporting events is by Gary Glitter who was a pedifile and arrested for having 4,000 hardcore photographs of children being abused? Find it odd that people cringe to Michael Jackson but party whenever this song comes on. Just saying.

I’ve seen a couple photos of the zoot suits (and kudos to Mitchell for The Who lyrics!! well done!) but we have all been sworn not to publish them. ….I’m working on it thought. I will try to persuade Cox and the boys to let the masses have a look. it’s too good to keep private.

I like Heyward in the three spot better but give Bobby credit for trying anything for offense.

It’s about Effing Time…At least he didn’t wait til Mid June like he did last year to get some straightening going on in the lineup!

flange, you aren’t asking me to do a lineup, are you, LOL?
I’d hit Chipper-Heyward-Glaus-McCann against righties, Chipper-Glaus-McCann-Heyward against lefties, 3 through 6. If Glaus cools off, or McCann heats up, I might change that slightly. Point would be to protect Heyward against RH and put him in the spot he’s liable to do the most damage, and use him lower against LH to lengthen the lineup.
There. You got me, lineup, LOL.
