I sure hope our boy Yunel comes back invigorated, and not trying to fix his batting average in one weekend.

As well as Infante played in his absence, we still missed his D.

I was flying back home today, pondering a lot of things Brave, and a few thougts came to mind. Will McLouth and Escobar get their strokes back? I have no doubts about Mac, and Chipper is a real wild-card. Love the good OBP, but he is a shadow of his former self. We will have a rough time making the post season without a resurgence from Hoss.

If by the beginning of May, McLouth and Escobar are still struggling, would you go to the teams who might be sellers? Seattle? KC? Chi-Sox? Baltimore? Cleveland? and Houston?

A few names jump out as good pickups. Pence and Gutierrez. Reimold is young and unproven. Quentin and heaven help us, AJ from Chicago? Then there is Guillen (the clubhouse tumor, that could become malignant).

Would you folks send Escobar to Seattle for Gutierrez? How about to KC for Guillen and Gordon? Or maybe to Chicago for Quentin?

I would be hesitant to deal our frosted-tipped SS extraordinaire, unless we felt Infante could handle it for the rest of the year. I like Omar, but I am just not sure if we could afford to go the distance w/ him at SS.

Now for the Yunel lovers, please don’t castigate me just yet. Just throwing this out for discussion. If we needed 1 more bat, who else could you use to get one?

Well if the Braves end up losing this game, I’ll be disappointed but I can’t be upset. They’ve really played a solid game with good fundamentals, especially so far this inning.

How exactly did the Braves show good fundamentals up to that point in the game? Hell, that’s the whole reason I even started commenting one the damn game. I turn it on and the first thing I see is Omar Infante getting picked off second base with two outs and Jason Heyward at the plate.

To the best of my recollection, I haven’t really been particularly vocal on the old blog in recent weeks other than the usual comments on Bobby’s line-ups and some occasional jabs at my good buddy Chipper. At least personally, I haven’t really too worked up one way or the other. I’ve defended KK pretty consistently. I wasn’t even mad at Eric O’Flaherty for walking the lead-off Nationals batter in the 9th inning last Thursday because we’d already blown the game with those never ending double plays.

But when I see that crap… that pisses me off. Frankly, I seen enough of it. I’ve seen enough Braves getting picked off of bases and failing to put down a bunt or move runners over, hitting the other way.

They’ve really played a solid game with good fundamentals…

Fundamentals?! Did Salty Dog forget about the unearned first inning run that resulted from a Troy Glaus error?

I mean, errors are errors. They happen but that is a very puzzling statement.

I can only ask in my best Herman Edwards voice:

HELLO?

I gotta admit, after reading a lot of your posts, I am kinda glad the computer ate that one. Most of the time you are just blowing off steam in some mindless manner.

That was in reference to something I spent way too long writing, a post that eventually got lost due to my laptop freezing up.

It was actually quite a positive little comment that was admittedly layered in just a tiny bit of sarcasm.

I described it as “insightful and illuminating” as a joke you see because nobody got to see it.

I don’t think Wayne quite got that. I mean, even if it had been critical, there’s a good chance I would have attempted to inject a little levity in it. That’s usually my style

I mean, if I’m going to sit here and pass the time on something that a lot of people would consider a complete waste of time then I’m going to try to have a little fun with it.

It’s called sarcasm Wayne.

Jurrjens is a concern too.

Wayne, I’d personally put Prado up there with the better situational hitters, but of course I would cause I’m a Braves fan. But, from my view, this guy has come up time and time again in crunch spots or just in simple situations like getting a guy over or in. He’s good, real good.

I’m with those who think Chipper might need to think about ditching the heavy bat. He’s still got an eagle eye and that great swing, but he’s still JUST missing on some balls that he should be crushing. To me, possibly a lighter bat could help with that.

uga-brave

What do you think about Brian’s (and others) ascertion that Chipper should move to a lighter weight bat.

Personally, if Chip could turn things around by using a lighter bat, even if it curtailed his power potential, I would be all for it.

If Hoss hit 290-310 with his eagle eye, and only slugged in the low 400’s, I would be OK w/ that. We need more hits, not necessarily more HR’s.

I still think he would be perfect for the 2 slot to finish off his career.

TnBrian

May 15th, 2010
2:17 am

Ouch, I might have to side with uga-brave on the starters a bit. They really haven’t been exactly dominant outside of Hanson. Hudson has been better than OK, especially lately, but not dominant. Though hopefully we see more of that Lowe we saw last time out where he uses more pitches. He has a pretty good changeup that I’d like to see him use more.

I think the pen will continue to save the starters butts. You just wouldn’t want them burned out by mid-summer. Starters need to step it up, for sure.

uga-brave

May 15th, 2010

Wayne in Utah

May 15th, 2010

uga

Contrary to popular opinion, I think Lowe and KK turn things around and do a decent job as bottom of the order starters this year. And I am not overly concerned about Hudson at this point. While any of these pitchers could go down to an injury, most of the time, guys pitch to their career norms, up until they no longer have it.

Maybe it is wishful thinking on my part, but Lowe’s last start gives me hope. And the dude seems to find a way to keep the team in the games he starts.

I would be thrilled if he wins 14-16 games this year, with a 5.00 ERA.

I hope Jurrjens takes all the time needed to get that hammy back to normal. Those hamstring injuries can screw you up for a long azzed time. I strained my right hamstring about a year ago, and it still aches like a beach when I drive for long distances.

Chipper seems hell bent on always using a heavy bat judging from his comments where McCovey, I think it was, told him to use a heavy bat and never switch. Frustarting thing to a fan, and him I’m sure, is that he looked good the first week or so until the groin thing flared up. Shame.

2:24 am

I still think Chipper is hurting.

As bad as it might be with him out for 2 weeks, if he came back stronger, I would hope he would go on the DL and get healthy.

The way Infante and Prado are hitting right now, maybe this would be a good time for Chipper to heal himself. Keep Hicks up, and hope Escobar comes back strong tomorrow. (there is always that slugger lurking on the bench, Brooks Conrad!)

nolie

May 15th, 2010
2:25 am

UGa, I said it might be in the earlier post, I have no idea what it is. BUT, there is a difference between baseball and golf in that bat speeds can become too slow to be effective any more. I did NOT say that is what Chipper’s problem is.
