I hate long, long-distance calls. Could not avoid it. I left at 4-4 and came back to a come-from-behind win. Grateful for the win, just wish I was following on GameDay.
I just LOVE simple solutions to complex problems!
Here’s a solution to all the controversy over full-body scanners at the airports.
Have a booth that you must step into that will not X-ray you but instead will detonate any explosives or explosive devices you may have on you! It would be a win-win for everyone.
There would be none of this crap about racial profiling or accidentally accusing an innocent person, and it would eliminate all those long and costly trials.
I still want to see McLouth’s homer mlbtv messed up and missed one half of an inning, guess which one. At least it came back and showed the end.
May 14th, 201011:12 pm
I really like Hinske. He always seems to be the first guy to high 5 a someone when they do something. You see him pumping up nate on the way the dugout after homer? He really gets into it.
Ha Wayne, but Richards has looked like death on a stick for about 15 years.

If we can get average years from our offense, we can still be in the mix this year.
Nice to see Marteeeen back the last few games!
What is going on with Chipper?? I guess nolie might be right, maybe he just got old. (but it beats the heck out of the alternative!)
Marteeeeeeeeen! I’m so late.
Soph, Mixxo and I were worried about you. He thought you fainted. I thought you had a malfunction of your “e” key.
May 14th, 2010
You’re only as good as your next day’s pitcher. With Tommy and Timmy going the next two days, I’m feeling pretty good.
@SoWeGa Fanatic – I am too, and they are both on my roto team. Looking for big points.
May 14th, 201011:14 pm
9 and 4 since the dark days which we need not mention. finally some clutch hitting. bats waking up. decent pitching. (bummer about JJ’s hammy, but we can survive, as long as they don’t try to give his spot to JoJo.) this squad is starting to look like the one i thought we’d see.
Daybed Wagmoe -
Are you calling me a hater? I just can’t stand the raiders
I can’t remember who dubbed him “Skeltor” but it might be the best nickname ever!
I’ve really warmed to Hinske. Love his passion and energy.
Oh, and the guy can hit a little too.
May 14th, 201011:15 pm
YES! – We have a pulse
MFin04 – you can watch it via the highlights button on mlbtv. that’s what i did
If not for that 9 game losing streak, the boys would be leading the division.
May 14th, 201011:16 pm
Getting intentionally walked may bring Melky out of his funk.
No kidding. Laughter is the best medicine.
cabravesfan — juss playin’. but i do like that slogan.
So, a decision for Cox — do you start Escobar tomorrow night in place of the red-hot Infante? He probably will, but that’ll at least give us Infante off the bench, which could be useful.
The highlight of it won’t play either….it just says…waiting for game to resume or something…
Great win. But man alive is that D-Backs Bullpen fugly.

I’ve really warmed to Hinske
I’m torn…I want to get attached to him, but I’m scared he’s nothing more than a backup on a hot streak.
I felt that way about Prado last year and I was wrong then
hinske isnt coming out of the lineup anytime soon and mclouth is playing stellar defense and his last two at bats tonight buys him at least a week, one would think. that leaves the melk man on the bench and out of the lineup, right?
MFin04, they showed the replay in the ninth at least.
May 14th, 201011:19 pm
The proper guy was at the leadoff spot , they execute some small ball – and waddaya know
pull out a win late to get themselves a 4 game streak
It aint rocket science
Wow – my good luck in coming home to watch worked a second time!
not sure how that is a problem jeffrey. just enjoy the hot streak.
May 14th, 201011:20 pm
OK. VJ for MVP.
MFin04, yup. I missed it too. That’s twice this year, that game tying HR have been “missed” and not broadcast by mlb.tv.
They Heyward HR in SF (after Glaus hit the long HR), never got aired live on my broadcast either.
It’s coming from the Braves end of the feed. I’ve NEVER had anybody else’s feed lock up on me. But it seems like it’s the Peachtree feed that has more technical difficulties.
Coincidence? Perhaps. But it’s realy frickin annoying, I can tell you that much.
May 14th, 201011:21 pm
Tonight´s Most Valuable Players…………….Melky Cabrera………..he´s got to be, just because of his great AB in the 9th……… unbelievable way to get a walk under pressure………what a pesky AB…………pure talent right there.
Wow. The Nationals are 1 game back from the Phillies with a .571 winning percentage.
3-0 with Heyward “up” in the order.
You do the math.
May 14th, 201011:22 pm
This team could be really good, but Chipper has to come around or . . . sit? I can’t believe I said that.
I didnt see the game until the 9th………..what happened when KJ was introduced? I hope he got a nice O, the guy deserves it.
N8 – I think you did the math for us already. Give us another one!?
@SoWeGa Fanatic – I am too, and they are both on my roto team. Looking for big points. Roto Rooter
I KNEW it!!! I didn’t pick it up in the moniker until just then……not too smart, am I?
Hinske has his limits, but you ride him when he is hot, and hope it lasts a long time.
Maybe Infante gets the nod at second and Prado spells Chipper tomorrow night.
May 14th, 201011:23 pm
not to show too much empathy for the enemy, but you gotta feel bad for AZ fans. that bullpen is killing them. atrocious isn’t a strong enough word
Man, what a luxury to have a bullpen. Wagner gave one up tonight, but still, not bad when your starter goes 4 1/3 and you only give up one more run. Must be deflating for the D’backs to have a starter pitch really well only to see the ‘pen give it all back.
Also, yeah it’s only the D’backs, but they did take 2 of 3 from Philly…
May 14th, 201011:25 pm
N8, Did you actually go away during the early-innings racist rants? I was in and out tonight and did not see if you did as declared.
>>It’s coming from the Braves end of the feed. I’ve NEVER had anybody else’s feed lock up on me. But it seems like it’s the Peachtree feed that has more technical difficulties.
no, this time it was definitely mlbtv. i tried switching to the diamondbacks feed, and that wouldn’t load either. although maybe it was the a problem with equipment at turner field? i dunno. mlbtv is notoriously problematic
May 14th, 201011:26 pm
I wouldnt applaud him, but thats only me…
D-Backs bullpen is uglier than Lady GaGa
JC from DR
May 14th, 201011:27 pm
Great comeback by the Braves! Nice to see them win like that again!
Before the games tonight, the teams in the NL East had 20-19-18-17 and 16 wins, respectively. Makes for a fun season.
Phils & Fish win. Mutts lose. Nats are rained out. I can’t believe Livan Hernandez has a 1.08 era. He wasn’t that good when he was good.
May 14th, 201011:28 pm
We are 4.5 games back in what is shaping up to be the tightest division. The next closest spread in a division is 5.5 in the AL West, and after that, 7 games in the NL Central. We are doing well in a very competitive division. No reason to stress.
Moe, I did walk away. Then I had to leave to go get my kids around the 3rd inning and came back in the 7th.
I don’t have time for that shyt. I can tolerate a lot of nonsense, and not much offends me. But that’s just over the top ridiculous and I’m not going to take part of it, even to scold the idiot.
Ignoring morons like that is the best medicine.
Lady Gaga isn’t ugly…she just has a dumb name and represents what’s wrong with pop music
Why even mention the stupid and ridiculous protests? To protest a baseball team just because they are from a state that is willing to enforce illegal immigration laws and attempt to gain back control of its citizens is pretty lame.
Are you a liberal? Are you are sportswriter that takes advantage of your position to bring in highly political issues? We are here so we don’t have to listen to liberal media or read liberal garbage. The only section of the paper I read is the sports section. Gee, so glad you are here to talk about 3 people protesting the team over a political issue.
May 14th, 201011:29 pm
Wow – my good luck in coming home to watch worked a second time! (VJ)
The good news: jeffrey d has figured out a way to insure a Braves’ win.
The bad news: Everyone at work is going to think that your and idiot!
That being said, here’s a 12-year old performing one of her songs brilliantly on the piano
May 14th, 201011:30 pm
jeffrey d – seriously? She looks like the tranny.
livan’s previous three years opponents batting average.308, .342, .308. this year? .187. not gonna last.
Gotta Roll 2 the club, but I will be at the game 2morrow…!

May 14th, 201011:31 pm
I’m so proud of you for admitting that.
PWillie, read Carol’s blog lead-in.
N8–I completely understand. It is far worse than any number of people calling ballgame. I spent a little while just following Game Day. After KK was pulled, I thought I could come back. The rantings reappeared with Saito. I was then called away by a phone call. Reappeared a bit later to a win.
Makes it frustrating. I have started thinking of not checking in on KK’s starts.
May 14th, 201011:32 pm
We are here so we don’t have to listen to liberal media or read liberal garbage. PWillie
we are? I thought we were here cause we are interested in Braves baseball etc.
I know it probably won’t happen, but what about a lineup just for tomorrow of
Prado, Infante(LF), Heyward, Mac, Hinske(1B), Escobar, McLouth and Conrad(3B)
Give the hot guys another game or two.
MFin04 – haha!!
May 14th, 201011:33 pm
Agree with u, Biff.
May 14th, 201011:34 pm
how ’bout let’s not Wayne
Wayne, why sit Glaus?
I’m glad Conrad had some big hits, but I really don’t want him in the lineup
May 14th, 201011:35 pm
So is Yunel coming back? I kinda like our chemisrty now!
Tomahawkin–I am envious. Would love to go to a game. I think I will make it down there in early July in time for the home series against the Marlins. May make it to a game against the White Sox up here in June. We’ll see. Have not seen a game in awhile.
I agree with you and N8 on the racist pig. I used to try and do something but today I stayed off the blog for the first few innings and the game was far more enjoyable. I think I am going to do this everytime KK starts. Cant avoid Saito as much though. Wish there was a good way to put an end to that crap.
May 14th, 201011:36 pm
Looks like the Mutts are coming back to earth.
nolie, How you feeling? Any improvement? Hope so.

@Wayne – you are not only a smart guy but a knowledgeable one too (LOL!) And a good fan of the Braves. I just pray they make us all HAPPY by the end of the year! Have a good night guy and let’s get another one tomorrow.
May 14th, 201011:39 pm
Actually, I just want to see both Infante and Hinske in again. And I am pretty sure that Escobar will get the nod. I guess I would be OK w/ Chipper getting a rest and letting Infante play again.
I would sure love to see Chipper and Heyward get a lineup reversal. Would his ego be able to handle that at this point in the season?
Roto – I give you permission to start Glaussy tomorrow!
May 14th, 201011:40 pm
Snotboogie, I know. It is sad. I enjoy the blog, and it helps explain things which Game Day leaves very obscure, like Infante’s base-running error. But it is excruciating during KK’s starts. I want him to do well, but I find the blog to be excruciating during his starts.
Can you really say “we are doing well” when we are in last place?
I’d rather have to do it with Wendy O Williams for the Plasmatics
May 14th, 201011:41 pm
nolie, Glad to hear it. Are they doing anything more, since you’ve been on the IV for awhile now and still not over it?
May 14th, 201011:42 pm
May 14th, 2010
@Soph – Thank you, and I will have a long talk with him tonight about getting us some RBIs.
May 14th, 201011:43 pm
Amen. I have never done a roto team. No desire to.
I rag on folks who rant and rave and often refer to them as roto-fans, as they seem to be too darned short-term oriented. Never looking at the big picture, which is a heckuva lot longer than the AB, game, week, month or even the season sometimes.
I just have never understood that “ballgame” mentality.
It’s great that some of the backups have performed well – that’s what you want from them. But the best thing is to get the guys with above-average skills (based on their history) going.
If we’re going to compete for a title, we need Escobar slugging and playing stellar D, McLouth driving the ball and creating some havoc on the bases, Chipper driving in runs, etc etc.
Some of that may not happen, but our best chance to win consistently is to give them every chance to do what they’re paid to do.

I’ve seen you on here quite a bit, but I rarely post and have never thanked you for your continued loyalty to the only team that matters in the state of Alabama while you’re currently behind enemy lines.
On another note, I’ve been out of “Braves Country” the past few days and have been forced to listen to the radio broadcasts and I must say Jim Powell and Don Sutton broadcast a great game. I usually only listen to those guys for an inning or two when I’m on my way out and about or whatnot, but I haven’t listened to a Braves radio broadcast from start to finish since Skip and Pete, and this week I listened to 2 full games and thoroughly enjoyed every inning. Although I was a little disappointed that Jim used the patented “fisted” 2 or 3 times tonight, I think I may start muting the TV every once in a while and listen to the radio call. IMO, Joe’s always good and I like Chip “okay”, but a man needs a break from the over-the-top quirkiness every now and then ya’ know. Anyway, good night denizens and Go Braves!
May 14th, 201011:44 pm
Compared to where we were two weeks ago, yeah we are OK.
Remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint.
May 14th, 201011:46 pm
Yes, we are in last place but in the tightest division. 4.5 games is nothing at this time of year. We are fine. I am not saying what will or will not happen. Just that, this far back is no worry in May.
FEAR – does that take into account that Wendy O Williams has been dead for 12 years?
May 14th, 201011:47 pm
Since I NEVER catch the TV guys, I guess I have no opinion of Chip and company (don’t even know his name). I do enjoy Don and Jim are very good, and fairly easy on the ears.
May 14th, 201011:48 pm
little shot gun blast never hurt anyone……hahaha
May 14th, 201011:49 pm
Gotta go out to dinner tomorrow night right at game time. Keep the light on for me.
Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better nolie!
May 14th, 201011:50 pm
Its so frustrating to continue watching Chipper hitting 3rd…………and knowing Cox will keep him there until the end of times.
Prado, Infante, Heyward, Glaus, Mc, Chipper, Hisnke, nate…………..
When yunel comes back I would switch Infante with Henski and yunel 7th until he or chipper get hot.
Smoltz has been awesome in the booth so far. would be interested in hearing him do a game with don, two HoF level pitchers dissecting things.
May 14th, 201011:53 pm
i liked his frog joke
Moe and Wayne,
You can say whatever you want, Im just tired to be the team playing catch………..annoying……..when ever you look at the standings……….no matter what time of the year is, we are 5 games out in the division, and then when we are out of it and start talking WC and you look at the standings, we are also 5 GB. It has feel forever like that.
May 14th, 201011:54 pm
@ Wayne in Utah – I feel you, but I don’t root for the Braves just for points. I am a Roto-player but also a longtime Braves fan. My father played in Negro Leagues with Hank Aaron on Indianapolis Clowns and played against him in Mobile, Al. We used to go to games in late 60s-70s and even went to his home. Met his brother Tommy who played longer with my father. I used to go to Braves games when EVERYONE could get a foul ball. I have lived in ATL since 1996. So you see, I am not as bad as you think and I consider myself a true fan even though I am a roto player.
not really Moe, just upped the dosage some on Wednesday. I’m hoping one more week will get it done. Still have not gotten the results back on the culture. He might change the approach or the particular antibiotic when that comes back.
Doc Holiday–Players love him for doing things like leaving Chipper third. Yes, he has been very frustrating there. But sticking with someone, while they work through a rough patch has made many players very dedicated. He is more beloved than almost any other manager. From a fan’s point of view, it might be a bit vexing. But anyone, in any profession hits a rough spot. Being tossed aside at the slightest weakness is not the way to produce loyalty or even a good performance.
May 14th, 201011:57 pm
nothing wrong with being a roto player, just so you realize they don’t play real baseball with the same approach
May 14th, 201011:58 pm
nolie, Well, I hope you are feeling better until the culture comes back. And either this antibiotic or another gets you better. Don’t want an ear infection laying you low.

I agree that the fantasy baseball attitude is what makes up this “ballgame” crowd and wanting to chop and change the lineup. But its not always the case. Fantasy baseball gives one a good chance of keeping in touch with players/trends/results everywhere and it is actually possible to separate the two if people are mature enough to understand the difference. Unfortunately that’s not the case with lots of these folks.
But you should try it sometime, quite a lot of fun especially if you are in a league with some of the bloggers on here.
Nobody is throwing chipper aside……. he is what he is, a 38 year old coming downhill………..Keeping him in the middle of the order is not fair for other players that are giving it all (prado, hinske, heyward, etc). If chipper is a man, full of greatness and humble, he would understand what is best for the team and his teammates, and Im pretty sure having him in the 3rd spot is not it.
May 15th, 201012:01 am
i agree biff, he breaks down whats actually going on in the at bat for the pitcher and hitter. smoltzy is so much more enjoyable to listen to that carey.
