A bullpen ERA of 7 or 8 is about equal to what? Giving up 2 runs a game. I don’t think 2 runs is going to do it.

its only equal to 7 or 8 runs a game if their bullpen is out there for the full 9 innings… so yes, Min04 is right. if they are only out there for 3 innings then its like giving up a couple of runs…

For those not following on TV:
The last time the Braves came back from a deficit of at least 4 runs after the 6th inning was June 2, 2009 against the Cubs last year. The Braves were down 5-0 entering the 8th inning and came back to win 6-5, scoring 3 in the 8th and 2 in the 9th. Jeff Francoeur hit a walk-off, two-run homer off Kevin Gregg.

I’m not sure why everybody assumes we are gonna score a bunch of runs tonight. Guy has an ERA just above 3.00. That’s pretty darn good for a guy who pitches in that offensive haven. Plus the Braves are likely all hit out from the Brewers spurt. Hoping for a reverse jinx here

Steve, Pens were exhausted and Crosby just didn’t have a good series. All that being said, that was a game where you just needed Fleury to step up, and it just didn’t happen for whatever reason. Most important thing for 2010-2011 for them is to get a full consistent season from Fleury. I mean, it’s never really happened for him. Malkin, to a lesser extent, needs to have a great, top ten in points type year. I hear people saying on Pens blogs that they should trade Staal or Malkin for a winger…..I think that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Their strength up the middle(Crosby, Staal, Malkin) is what makes them who they are.

Kawakami probably deserved a better fate tonight. Our pen has a pretty good ERA, but they seem to let a lot of KK’s inherited runners score. Dude has deserved better.
Medlen is looking like a stud! If he puts in another good start against the Mets, KK might end up being the 5th man.

Efrim–I agree, but I do think they rely too strongly on Crosby and Malkin because they do lack a bit of depth, but that’s ok for the most part because you have Crosby and Malkin. I know you probably like Fleury, but I think he’s a bit of a headcase. He’s too talented to be turning into a sieve as often as he does. He would just make me nervous were I a Pens fan.
What do you think they’ll do with Gonchar?
