253 games between grand slams for Braves

253 — number of games the Braves went without a grand slam before Martin Prado hit one off Brewers lefty Manny Parra in an 8-2 win on Monday night.

The Braves went more than 8,600 at-bats between grand slams,  since Brian McCann hit one off Philadelphia’s Brad Lidge on July 25, 2008. The Angels were the only other team that didn’t hit a grand slam in 2009.

The streak by the Braves had been the longest active streak in the majors, and by a wide margin. The next-longest belonged to Kansas City, with 136 consecutive slam-free  games before Monday.

Why does Chip Caray keep calling it a “grand slam home run?” His redundancy is redundant.

Why do announcers call a double extra bases? It’s an extra base, for gawd’s sake. Try a triple for extra bases!

A great victory followed by a loss tonight, thats Braves baseball.I for one will be surprised if they win, they have no leadership on the team and have shown that they are to willing to accept the fact that they don’t have a hitting coach that can relate to the players on an individual basis.

Yea!!!!! Great one-game winning streak. Bobby sounds like they are only one game out of the World Series. This is a pitiful bunch coached by a pitiful bunch of coaches.

Hopefully, it won’t be another 253 games until the next one. It was good to see the hitting. I hope it wakes them up in time to face the next teams at home — the DBacks, the Mets & the Reds. MUST win the next 3 series – especially against the Mets – to hope for any rise in the division again. I hope the boys will play real well over the next 50-60 days to be within shouting distance of the division lead by the All-Star break. But, baby steps first: Win this series, win the DBacks series, etc., etc.

IT seems the Braves have lost their way offensively. Did anyone else notice that there have been many days recently where the Braves field a line up with five players hitting below .200. I know that is partly because of injuries but it is still unacceptable. I hate to be the one to say it because I loved him as a player, but Terry Pendleton has to go. Not only do they not hit well, but as DOB pointed out they have no grasp on fundamentals like bunting and sacrificing. This shows a lack of attention to detail. Bunting is simply not that hard to do well with a little practice. I know this personally because I was a below average hitter in high school but with a little work on things like bunting I was still able to contribute offensively. It seems to me that maybe the players are tuning out TP. Once this happens to a coach, even if his message is right, he has to go for the team to succeed.

With Chipper down again it seems, please don’t insert Conrad. Time for Henske to play third and keep Chipper out til he can actually run. It just pains me to see Melky, Diaz, & Nate continue to look bad, when Henske a better hitter than all three sits. Plus he’s a better fielder than all but Nate.

LOL… it’s amazing how people can complain after an 8-2 win (b/c they didn’t get a hit till the 4th or 5th inning or whatever) really? Are we going to slice and dice every game they win, or just be happy they won?

I will pay to watch the Braves lose if they play hard. I will not pay to watch them play T-ball and lollygag. They had a good game last night, and they have some good pitching, but they are still a lousy baseball team consisting primarily of guys who would rather be doing something else.

The Braves need to take advantage of May: Brewers (2), D’backs (3), Mets (2), Reds (2), @Pirates (3), @Fla (3), Pit (4). With the Mets losing last night, none of those teams are ranked higher than third in their respective divisions. June gets pretty tough again with Phillies, @LAD, @Ari, @Min, TB, KC, @ CHW, DET, Nats. Now’s the time Braves. Let’s get hot and stay that way. If we don’t take advantage of May, then we will be out of it by the All Star game. The Braves have played some of the worst baseball in the first 30, but there is still a lot of baseball left. Couple that with an easy May schedule, and there’s still reason to be somewhat optimistic. If we can get hot in May, then we can handle that June schedule.

That was a great shot by Prado. I yelled yea at my tv for 15 sec. I mean one of those long, its about time yells that u do at the tv and everybody runs in the room to see whats goin on.
I told somene that the Braves haven’t had a GRAND SLAMMER since the 90’s. (lol)

Tommy Boy Hanson was the bomb.
We the fans cant do much except complain/blog/biech about upper mgmt, but it sure is good when the ballplayers play like we expect them to.
MARTIN PRADO. That was just pure fun. I wish u guys got to be happier in the dugout but I guess you cant gloat when ur giving a beatdown.
The players have got to just play for each other now. Keep pushing for great shut down defense. And Chipper be happy for ur teammates even when ur stinkn& or/hurt. Be the LEADER. These guys look to u everytime they come back to the dugout. These guys know ur a hall of famer and the greatest Brave ever.
Cmon guys…..one at a time.
Booyah or hooyah……… whateva the soldiers say.

I agree with Larry. Too many games left to play. I believe we are going to get back in the groove of things and come out on top! I think Troy, Nate and yes, even Melky will end up being the strong hitters for our team. J-Hey is already doing a great job for us, no worries there. Everyone is getting so pesimistic about our team. We have a great team…just give them time.

Go Braves!!!!

I wonder how many times in the last 253 game has some one come up to bat with the bases loaded? I wondered why I always have that hopeless feeling when we load the bases.

Has anyone noticed that the recent epidemic of losing games, bad baseball and injuries has all happened since the team pulled that little stunt of emptying the dug out after the dramatic comback against Philly. I think we have ticked off the baseball gods and need to make amends. I think we need to make a sacrifice to the Baseball Gods to make them happy. Maybe pouring a beer over home plate, or creating a bonfire by burning the bats of everyone who is hitting below .270. Right now I start wearing my rally hat in the first inning. Is that stupid Chick Filet cow still at the stadium, if it is we could always pull it down and burn it; that might make the Baseball Gods happy.

Braint

No Crying – If they burn the bats of everyone hitting under .270 the fire would be seen from outerspace……FEMA would need to be called in.

These guys want to fire one of the three best managers who ever lived, saying he is no good.I wonder how they would do if they could run the team for an inning or two.Glaus is coming around now and barring injury, will be tops the rest of the season. They will say that Sey Hey is no good when he hits aslump, which he will They all do at times.
