Youngster hit in head with batting practice homer

A four-year boy was hit in the head by a Jason Heyward batting practice home run before Sunday’s Braves game. After  receiving medical attention, the boy was diagnosed with just a bump on the head, news that came as a relief to manager Bobby Cox and several players who witnessed the incident. According to team officials he and his family were able to return to return to their seats.

Heyward autographed a baseball for youngster.

Why is this a story?

Why be out there during batting practice if you aren’t going to watch the ball? What’s way more dangerous is those fans that sit near the field down the 1st and 3rd base lines…bring your gloves!. Heyward has already hit several foul balls this year that have looked pretty scary.

Why shouldn’t it be? Heyward is the star of the sport, it’s unusal for somebody, especially a kid, to get hit on the head by a HR, and Heyward did his usual right thing and autographed a ball for the kid.

I’d take a shot on the head to meet Heyward and have his autograph. He’s a huge class act and the best thing to happen to Atlanta sports in recent memory.

Steve,
It’s a BLOG entry. It’s not as though they’re printing it in the paper.

Enjoy this wins because we are about to hit another losing streak. Braves are so predictable. It is so annoying. Lose 4 win 4 lose 5 win 3 lose 3 win 4…………. I will predict we might win today and then enter the twilight zone again for some 3 or 4 games. That has been our modus operandi last 4 seasons.

An injured child is much more of a story than the game could ever be.

I agree with Steve. This is pretty weak, but looking at what’s been put out today by the blogger, I guess this is all he had to go with. Why couldn’t of it been added as an extra to the Escobar blog to fill that one out, but to get its own entry..lol. Saying its a story just because it was Heyward who hit it shows how weak it is.

Too bad it wasn’t McLouth,Kawakami,or Melky that got hit on the head… I hope the kid is doing wel though !

I’d like for DOB or Bradley to interview Kelly Johnson and Jeff Francoeur and ask them why they think they started hitting AFTER leaving the Braves. Those would be interesting answers. I bet TP’s name might come up…

I was hoping Lowe was going to make Chopsui out of Matsui…

Skip should ask Glavine does he think they won so much because of Bobby Cox managing or because they had himself,Smoltz, & Maddux (3 Cy Young’s) every pitching 3 out 5 games ? I know the true answer but I’m sure he would probably say “Bobby was the reason.”
My dog could manage a team to a great winning percentage with 3 aces on it…

But seriously, it was those pitchers and after 92, it was Ted Turner’s big wallet that kept the Braves on top

A single off a ball bounced off the wall ? Damn is Glaus running in quick sand ?
They just said Glaus was hitting a hard .180
I only saw him hit the ball hard like 10 times all year. But I remember 50 slow ground ball outs to 3B & SS…

Braves have a pretty high payroll. Nothing like the Yankees,Red Sox,or Mets but nothing low like the Pirates,Royal, and Twins either..
Its not how much money you spend it is how wisely you spend it. The Twins prove that.

Oh Brother and Steve – He linked a tweet about something that happened at the park. I for one appreciate updates. Whether its info on Esco’s groin or the kid getting hit, I like getting Braves updates.

Hopefully your comments were in jest b/c they made you look silly. If you were serious then change your screen name and post better comments next time. Now I’m going back to lurking.

Skip : “He (TP) can’t hit for them.” Neither can a boss do the work for an employee but if that employee is making too many costly errors then the boss instructs the employee to correct the mistakes or replaces the employee. If the supervisor (TP’s comparable position) cannot get the employees (Braves hitters) going right then he gets replaced. The Braves are hitting today and have been the last few games. But just as the Braves announcers like to say “judge the season not only April”, let’s wait until July before we annoint these Braves the equivalent of the 70’s Big Red Machine with the bats…
Can you explain why the hitti ng coach isn’t responsible for 7 hitters not breaking out of slumps (up until the last few games) ? Or is his job to just sit on the bench and do nothing ?

McCann ’s other option besides getting out at the plate and caught in a rundown was to stay at third Skip…

Why do you come on this blog if you hate everything about the Braves so much? Are you really as miserable as you appear from your comments? Just an observation, but you might improve your quality of life by finding a team you like and being a fan, rather than a heckler.

Great win by the Braves today and great to see the offense coming back to life. Hope we win the series against the Nats after the day off tomorrow.

Brava,
I usually skim these comments but seldom post anything. That’s because of the several idiots and the couple of drunks. I know, it’s hard to tell them apart. You know the type though, creative thinking for them involves something rude, crude or something totally negative.
I can just picture them sitting there with ‘F5′ worn off of its key. (~;
Good times, bad times; I’m pulling for the Braves!

Road has been so miserable to braves, it is scary.

Surprisingly we can get to 3.0 GB of 1st place if the phillies win. But I think that we still need the muts to win, it will be better in the long run.

On the other hand, Im tired it seen our team play catch, I think this has affected the guys that have been around more time (chipper, Mc, matt, etc). You know, when you are behind it is tougher for them, I think it get exhausts their minds.
