Frenchy had mechanical issues…..so he went and saw the Texas Ranger’s hitting coach……..

What does that tell us ? Peter

Who knows, maybe he did not like what he was hearing and went to find someone that would tell him what he wanted to hear. Whatever it was he still pretty much sucks.

Wayne, from the outside looking in I feel pretty sure some of these Yunel injuries are hoaxed. Watch him in the batters box and on the field and it’s pretty clear the guy has some mental things going on.

I KNOW, they play like that where he’s from and I like his fire a lot. It’s the other odd and childish things that are annoying to a fan, or at least this one.

How about a relief pitcher eval at the 1 month mark of the season.

Gonzo and Soriano vs Wagner, Saito and Chavez.

Unfortunately, Gonzo has been in 3 games and is DL’d w/ a shoulder problem. Soriano is doing very well in TB, w/ 5 for 5 in save opportunities.

Wags, Saito and Chavez have all performed well for the Bravos.

I like our deal so far.

Serious Question: What does Liberty Media do with the money from the revenue sharing plan? There were reports that each team gets about 30 million. If that’s so, is it being used on the team? All the KJ longing is well, I don’t know what to say about it. His fans will swear up and down that it was a mistake to let him go and that we could use his numbers now and his opponents will point out his streaky play and his 2009 season and say good riddance. Me, I don’t really care what KJ is doing because 2nd base really is the only position all year we have had no problems with. Outside of Martin and the rookie everybody else really has not produced the way we thought they would. Some bad luck mixed in with bad play has resulted in a 9 game losing streak in a year that the players have said they wanted to send off their beloved manager in the right way. Its not to late to turn it around but they are quickly approaching it. Phillies and Mets playing each other, if you win you’re guranteed gaining ground on someone. Take it one step at a time, win a game and go from there.

My hawks on the other hand, talk about dissapointing. Great season but they are trying to waste it against a team that if they played up to their potential against them this series would not have gone past game 5. Now they have to win on the road and force a game 7. Can they do it, of course, question is will they do it. Will they grow up on the road and stop complaining to the refs, settling for bad jumpshots, and turning the ball over, and leaving guys open for wide open shots. Here’s hoping that at the end of the night my hawks and my braves are 2-0.

I actually like the lineup considering the players…if they start performing, we all know what it should be when Esco comes back (based on the fact Chipper will NOT be moved out of the 3rd spot by Bobby…next year, yes)

Nate
Prado
Chipper
Mac
Esco
Heyward
Glaus
Melky/Diaz

FUWren

April 30th, 2010
5:51 pm

3-4-5…Chipper, McCann, Glaus…probably the worst trio in the majors. Certainly they are right now based on year-to-date performance. So let’s say they pick it up and do some mean reversion. What can we reasonably expect? 15 HRs from Chipper? Maybe 20 from McCann? I don’t expect Glaus to be in the lineup this summer, but if he is I guess that means he’s hitting well, so maybe 20 from him? If these guys don’t hit for power their value goes down substantially, because they have no speed at all.

Glen W

April 30th, 2010
5:52 pm

I’m not ripping on our players like some of you folk… but I must admit that I am tired of seeing Glaus hit behind Mac. No 1: its not helping Mac a bit. No 2: even when Mac gets on, he’s not on for very long.

3-4-5…Chipper, Heyward, McCann … that has a better look to it imo. At least we don’t clog the bases and have 3 double play threats in a row. Plus you give young Jason some protection instead of having him hit in front of Melky or McClouth every night. I dunno, no matter how you order them, bad players are still bad players, but I feel like moving your most productive hitter higher into the lineup and giving him maybe one more at bat per game is always a good thing.

John Heyman took a shot at the Braves clubhouse today. He said they have a bad mix of guys in there. He also said that in spring training they have one clubhouse for the veteran and regular guys and another for the fringe guys. He didn’t think that made sense and he doesn’t see it elsewhere. He also said that back in ST he asked Heyward which of the Vets was helping him or taking him under his wing and he said Heyward looked at him like he was from Mars and had no answer. He found that very telling Hmmmm…… Sounds like a clubhouse we used to talk about on here all the time.

He closed with that Cox is absolutely at his wits end with Escobar and that no matter what Cox tells Yunel to do he does what he wants anyway.

I don’t like Infante or Melky. From what I’ve seen, the patoon ain’t working out. I’d play Diaz and McLouth and sit Melky. He may be better than Diaz defensively but that ain’t sayng much. Melky’s a stiff. Last year during the streak weren’t they pitching KK in long relief. KK pitches well enough to lose.If they couldn’t dump Lowe couldn’t they have dumped KK instead of Vasquez. Javy was second in SOs in the NL and arguably their best pitcher. Who knows if Viscaino is gonna pan out. one thing for sure Melky sucks.

Roy Hobbs – Their career numbers are almost identical? Seriously? Their SLG % is almost identical. Prado has KJ by 50 points in career batting average and over 30 points in career OBP over Kelly. That ain’t even in the same ballpark (so to speak).

Jeff Pearlman in SI wrote today:
Though he began this year as the Braves’ Opening Day right fielder, Heyward was never alone. On the bench he has Bobby Cox, one of the best guardians of talent the game has seen. In the clubhouse he can confide in Chipper Jones. And Billy Wagner. And Derek Lowe. And Tim Hudson. And Eric Hinske. If he struggles, there will be consoling words and extra cage time. If he surges, Jones will surely remind him to stay humble and inevitably expect a dry spell. Maybe, should his average continue to linger in the .230s, Atlanta will return him to Triple A for more seasoning. Maybe not. Either way, the Braves are the perfect organization for the seemingly perfect prospect.

But he then notes the following:
A betting man would place Heyward in the All Star Game . . . Sports, however, have a way of surprising us. Twenty-seven years ago, another young, can’t-miss outfielder made his major league debut for the Braves. His manager was Joe Torre, his teammates included good guys like Dale Murphy and Claudell Washington. His nickname: The Phenom. What eventually happened? Over eight up-and-down seasons, Brad Komminsk batted .218 with 23 home runs and 105 RBIs.

Well its a good thing its Bobby’s last year right? Seroiusly, unless Escobar has taken Bobby’s dogs hostage and is threatening to execute them if Bobby benches him again, I think these two can make it together to the end of the year. Escobar forgetting how to tag up at 3rd is not the biggest issue with this team. I feel like all this crap is just a distraction for how sorry this lineup has been playing. You want to talk about how bad Yunel is doing offensively thats cool or anyone else thats fine. Thats the problem with this team. but hey no sense letting our observations get in the way

And, as usal, Anders may “observe”, but he seldom “sees”. Heyman’s “observations” lead me to “observe” that (1) with the size of ST rosters, rookies and fringe guys are lucky to have a seat to sit on, let alone worry about its positioning; and (2) that Heyman may have been around Dayn Perry too long; or (3) he’s one of the fools who thinks he could find “clubhouse chemistry” without GPS, let alone recognize it.

Writers can always fall back on a lack of whoop-and-holler in a locker room as a story line, because they know fans are gullible enough to believe its absence or presence actually means a good bleep to the success of a team.

And Anders, of course, is just being the trolling d-bag that he has been, is now, and forever will be. Only natural that he would bring it up, and speak of it as Gospel.

The Ghost of Greg Norton

From an interview with Terry Pendleton in the Belleview News-Democrat:

Q: Is it fun being the Braves’ hitting coach?

A: Right now, it’s not fun (laughing). It’s tough. I enjoy working with the guys. I enjoy the challenges of trying to assist them in figuring some things out. (Former Braves general manager) John Schuerholz had to call me three or four times to even get me to take the job. I kept telling him no. Being retired for three years, you think, ‘Well, I’ll go out and play a lot of golf.’ I didn’t do that. I enjoyed being home with the family, but at 39, 40, you need to do something. Getting back in the game was definitely a plus for me.

On managing:

Q: You’re considered a front-runner to replace Cox. Do you want the job?

A: Absolutely. That is something I would love to attempt to do –whether it’s in Atlanta or another city. Whoever steps in those shoes has some huge shoes to attempt to fill. That will never happen. There will never be another Bobby Cox. (But) I would love the challenge. The part I would have a problem with is patience. Bobby has more patience than most grandmothers. That’s awesome to have. I think I’ve learned a little bit of that –at least I hope so –being under Bobby.

For the record Anders, I had braves picked to finish second in the division with the Phillies 1st, Marlins 3rd, Mets 4th, and Nats 5th. To early in the season to see any reason why this still can’t happen. Kudos to Heyman for picking the braves to win this division and not for going the consensus route, but I really can’t recall many fans picking us to finish 1st, but thats just my memory of it.

@ Peter – “Heywood at #4 is way too much pressure on the young guy…….” People that say that are so funny. He is playing baseball not doing heart surgery. Do you think hitting behind base clearing Glaus and in front of mendoza line anyone ISN’T pressure? He’s a big boy in the big leagues and i’m sure if you asked him he’d love to bat cleanup. Hell, he is carrying the team now anyway, what more pressure is there?

I’ll show my cultural ignorance in stating that I have no idea who Luke Wilson is but if he can play firstbase and hit better than our sack of dirt Glob, sign Luke up at once.

It’s bad enough that the Braves have lost nine games in a row, but it only makes it worse that (if we choose to watch the game) we have to listen to Chip Caray tonight! FIRE CHIP CARAY (and Joe Morgan and Tim McCarver, too)!

Soph says he does those AT&T commercials, if he has any real talent he could act like a first baseman.

I so hope the Braves win tonight. I really don’t think this team is built to win the WS this year but I do think that next year could be a great year for them. If I were the GM of this team, I’d see if I could renegotiate chippers contract down and tell him he’s going to be our bench player if he wants to stay. I love the guy but he’s killing us in the field. I’d drop Glaus, Melky and Diaz. I’d see if I could resign Wagner for another year but drop Saito. Than I’d try to trade McLouth just to dump some payroll. Than I’d see if I could sign Carl Crawford with all the money I freed up. After that I’d bring up Freeman and Schaffer. So my position players would be McCann C, Freeman 1B, Conrad 2B, Escobar SS, Prado 3B, Heyward RF, Schaffer CF and Crawford LF. Now with that line up I’d and our pitching staff I really think they’d be unstoppable.

BravesFan1231, Wagner says this is his last year. When was the last time Conrad had a hit in the big leagues, June, July?
