Hi, Moe Berg. Sorry to be gone so long, but I’m trying to finish up some work. Hoping to get the rest of the weekend free for a little walleye fishing. It’s opening day.
You asked, Whose name was a vague homonym for ‘That’s Amore’?
I’m not sure how vague you mean, but how about a hint. Are you talking a baseball name?
uga-brave–I agree that we should not expect this much from a 20 year old. I like his numbers but think that a handful of veterans should be up there with him. At least he has them. Take away his, and the number of wins collapses.
I like what Chipper said about being patient and waiting for the Braves to get into a more manageable part of the schedule. I realize you can only say “it’s early” for so long before it gets “too late”. But the difference between this team and the 2006 team that lost 10 in a row is huge. Right now we’ve got guys (almost everyone) who are underperforming based on their career numbers. Most of those guys will even out. (not sure about Glaus but we’ll see) and when they do, the Braves will win in bunches because, barring injury, the pitching is solid. In 2006 we were running out the likes of John Thompson, Kyle Davies, Horacio Ramirez, Jorge Sosa, Ryan Langerhans, Scott Thorman, Chris Reitsma. Heck, Kenny Ray even tried to close for a while. Remember that? That team certainly underperformed, but they didn’t have a very high ceiling either as it turns out. This team will recover. We won’t see any 6-21 months. Will they make the playoffs? Too early to say….
What irritated me about Bradley’s latest is that he was giving NO hope whatsoever by saying last years Rockies team fell in an early season rut, but at least they had the talent all along and were able to pull though to the playoffs. GIVE-ME-A-F*****-BREAK!
Wren is the ultimate BS’er. Read the quote on how he doesn’t think the team is or was effected by the players dealt in the Tex deal because most of them would’ve been blocked anyways. For walleye, Moe Berg, prime time is dawn or dusk. However, around here and where I go, they’re usually not too cooperative until the lilacs are in bloom. That’s usually mid to late May.
Today, I’m not planning to go until noon, or so. Supposed to be 85 today. Just want to wet the line.
Tom O’Hawke–Up to 85. Nice. We are going to hit mid 70s and I thought we were doing well before a high in the mid 60s on the following day. I have not been fishing in years but liked it as a kid–went with my grandfather a lot.
OK, as long as we’re on the subject of Frank Wren fibbing, I’ll throw this in:
A Braves’ fan died and went to heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him. He asked, “What are all those clocks?” St. Peter answered, “Those are Lie-Clocks. Everyone on Earth has a Lie-Clock. Every time you lie the hands on your clock will move.”
“Oh,” said the fan, “whose clock is that?” “That’s Mother Teresa’s. The hands have never moved, indicating that she never told a lie.” “Incredible,” said the fan.
“And whose clock is that one?” St. Peter responded, “That’s Abraham Lincoln’s clock. The hands have moved twice, telling us that Abe told only two lies in his entire life.”
“Where’s Braves G. M. Frank Wren’s clock?” asked the fan. “Mr. Wren’s clock is in Jesus’ office. He’s using it as a ceiling fan.”
Moe, I once got too busy to fish also. Went a few years without enjoying the outdoors (my main reason for fishing … I throw them back). Once I finally got out there again, I asked myself, “WHERE WERE YOU?”.
now we can start a new losing streak today maybe 10 or 12. even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then. the braves r a joke, friday night ballgame and maybe 10000 people show up. maybe someone will buy the braves and move them to a new city.
Nice win last night against the Astros, but make no mistake, it was a Hanson win. The offense only generated six hits, meaning the slump continues. The Braves will need more Hanson-like efforts to overcome the poor hitting – that, or Braves’ hitters will finally breakout.

GT, what evidence do you have that would make you think that? He can be a little immature at times, but I don’t think he affects the other players in a negative way. It seems much more the opposite. The whole team, made up of very good make-up guys, has had an affect on him.
It seems when Bobby opens his mouth with some hitting tips guys listen. Heyward and McLouth seemed to have taken the advice. TP must have bad breath and all they focus on is that and not his actual tips.
pfunkatl – Without question! We’d be in some sad shape if not for Esco out there. Gotta give props to Omar for a pretty good job in his absence though.
GTSteve – yeah it was just an offensive outbreak without Yunel wasnt it? The Braves won last night because of three people – Hanson, McLouth, and Heyward. The Braves are a better team with Yunel, like it or not, and him sitting isnt the reason they won
The spell is broke and we’re going to whip out the hitting sticks today…Huddy has another good hitting and we move farther from the disastrous week we just had…It’s a new month and we’re going to win 17 games this month….
uga-brave, my point was that Bradley just rolls with the tide on the Braves jumping from one conclusion to another _ TnBrian
Bradley and Schultz are paid to have an opinion. Sometimes those opinions are bases on snap shots. So in the past couple of weeks Bradley has opined the Braves might be special, and the Braves might be doomed, the key to both those pieces is, might be, he’s hedged on both. Sometimes they have a consistent opinion, for Schultz one I would say is, Curt Schilling is an idiot, That’s one I agree with.
The enjoyment, for me, in reading opinion pieces is dissecting their argument, based on what they have to say and whatever other information I have, and deciding whether I agree or disagree. Hell sometimes I may conclude their position is idiotic, and thanks to these types of forums, I can tell them so.
Yunel is a cancer and will destroy this team if they don’t get rid of him
Really? Then where’s the leadership? A HOF manager, a supposed manager in waiting, a HOF third basemen, a possible HOF closer, a four time All Star catcher who should be the field general at this point, an accomplished and decorated veteran first baseman, a centerfielder who played in the most disheartening situation possible outside of KC while in Pittsburgh, a utility outfielder who dealt daily with a clubhouse of egomaniacs in the Bronx Zoo, a pair of young aces and a rightfielder who don’t seem to let anything bother them, a platoon leftfielder who just loves putting on a major league uni, a free spirited Aussie reliever, a veteran pinch hitter/backup corner infielder/outfielder who’s been in many different clubhouses, a pair of Japanese pitchers, a hungry and focused second basemen who’s defied many odds and who knocked off a first rounder to claim his position, two veteran starting pitchers …..
And one guy who can barely speak English is gonna destroy all of them?
Good gravy, Bobby Cox….Melky will go 0-4 and you put him in the leadoff spot. McLouth gets a walk, two hits (one of them a bunt single!) AND a stolen base from the leadoff spot last night….no no no, let’s drop him to the bottom
C’s – I didn’t say that Melky was leading off today, I said that he’ll have a horrible day but the next day be leading off. Meanwhile McLouth has a marvelous day last night but gets flushed down to 8th. I understand we’re facing a lefty, I just don’t care much for Infante outside of a backup utility role, let alone leading off.

It seems when Bobby opens his mouth with some hitting tips guys listen. Heyward and McLouth seemed to have taken the advice. TP must have bad breath and all they focus on is that and not his actual tips.

Braves haven’t scored more than 4 runs in 2 full weeks. 2 weeks.
There are still serious issues from the offense. And it starts with a lack of power from Chipper Jones, Brian McCann and Troy Glaus.
Wren needs to go out this offseason and get more power. No more left field platoon. No more fill ins at first base.

GTSteve – yeah it was just an offensive outbreak without Yunel wasnt it? The Braves won last night because of three people – Hanson, McLouth, and Heyward. The Braves are a better team with Yunel, like it or not, and him sitting isnt the reason they won

uga-brave, my point was that Bradley just rolls with the tide on the Braves jumping from one conclusion to another _ TnBrian

Braves lineup:
1. Omar Infante SS
2. Martin Prado 2B
3. Chipper Jones 3B
4. Troy Glaus 1B
5. Matt Diaz LF
6. Jason Heyward RF
7. David Ross C
8. Nate McLouth CF
9. Tim Hudson P
Nate cant break out of a slump hitting in front of a pitcher. Leave the lineup alone and quit the daily shuffling.
