We lost 10 in a row in “The June from Hell” back in 2006. Went 6-21 in that month. The 10 games were against Houston, Florida, Boston, and Toronto.

Enter Bob “The Hut” Wickman. The Braves went on to put up winning records in each of the following months that year, but June had already sunken {sank?} that ship.

The Baseball Prospectus projections now have the Braves losing 88 to 74 games, depending on which projection you look at on their site. Obviously the chances of them making the playoffs are under 10 percent. But you never know. Stranger things have happened.

I seem to recall the reason for signing Glaus was to have a power hitting right handed batter to put between Chipper and McCann in the line up. I don’t think he’s been between Chipper and McCann in the lineup all year. Maybe that would give better pitches to hit being in front of McCann. I don’t know. Just thinking out loud.

Did anyone see the line on Adam LaRoach and Kelly Johnson today? So now those two players alone have as many home runs as the entire Braves team. Will someone please explain how Terry Pendleton continues to have a job?

And why the Braves didn’t combine the heaps of wasted cash they gave to Lowe and Kawakami as free agents and sign Sabathia instead? What if they had Wainwright and Davies in those spots in the rotation? Then where would we be? And can we please give the Yankees Cabrera back and throw Lowe in the deal to get Vazquez back? Pretty please.

While our offense has been bad, our pitching hasn’t been great by any means. The whole team is struggling right now, even most of our pitchers.

Kawakami = 0-4, 5.48 ERA
Jurrjens = 0-3, 6.38 ERA
Lowe = 3-2, 5.79 ERA

Hudson and Hanson have been our only good pitchers this year.

RC, Are you saying the Braves owners are cheap ?

I am not saying that. I’m just saying that while LaRoche is likely a better player, he’s also a more expensive player, and there are not limited resources with which to build a team. I don’t think LaRoche is 8 times better than Glaus, so from that perspective Glaus is a better “value”. However, if the difference between Glaus and LaRoche proves to be what keeps this team out of the playoffs, then I think it was a very poor allocation of resources. Personally I think we should have signed Johnny Damon instead of bringing back Melky in a trade.

RC – We should have either Damon or Laroche on this team. That 8 million should not have been flitered away on a Glaus here and a Melky there and a nice bonus plan for Saito and Wagner that they won’t both reach but we’re still saving for, and a rainy day fund for later in the season. Our rainy day fund should have been minor leaguers being called up.

When the free agency period started, LaRoche’s agent was adamant about a multi-year deal. The Braves were only interested in a stop-gap 1B because they thought Freddie Freeman would be ready for 2011. I agree with you totally. Personally, I like KJ and AL, then and now, and hope they do well just as I hope Jeff Francoeur does well… individually. I won’t pull for the Mutts as a team, but I have watched nearly all of the Arizona games this season because I like KJ and AL (and hope Boyer does well too) and I know Stephen Drew and the rest of his family personally. I have the DirecTV MLB pkg and always watch the Braves live and record the others… usually DB’s first, and then the Cubbies if possible. Today I got the DB’s and Cubbies in one fell swoop, and I’ll watch and record other games later tonight. I am passionate about the game itself first, and the Braves, secondly, and then the DB’s, Cubbies and Boston. But first and foremost is the game… I love it.

I was speaking in general terms (as the first 3 words of my rant indicate) and used them as an example to say that it’s human nature to want something that you don’t have… that’s all. I’ve seen your other posts here and generally like what you have to say and ask, like earlier today.

No foul or bitterness on my end. Not talking about you here, but I don’t like “fair weather” or “band wagon” fans. I’m the same way about the Dawgs, my pastor, the mayor, governer and president (eh… usually). Even if I don’t agree with them, or vote for them, I recognize that it’s the hand I’ve been dealt and it’s my duty to support them and pray for them… even if it’s to pray that they’ve had their time and it’s time for them to be replaced.
