Braves return home to face Astros

Series preview: vs. Houston Astros at Turner Field.

When (TV): 7:35 p.m. Friday (SPSO), 3:10 p.m. Saturday (Fox), 1:35 p.m. Sunday (FSS).

Radio: 680 AM, 100.5 FM

Probable starting pitchers:

Friday: Braves RH Tommy Hanson (1-2, 2.14 ERA) vs. LH Wandy Rodriguez (1-2, 3.65).

Saturday: Braves RH Tim Hudson (1-1, 3.28 ERA) vs. RH Brett Myers (1-1, 3.81).

Sunday: Braves RH Derek Lowe (3-2, 5.79 ERA) vs. RH Bud Norris (1-2, 5.60).

Friday’s matchup:

— Hanson pitched eight scoreless innings of five-hit ball with no walks and seven strikeouts in his only start against the Astros; he got not decision in the Sept. 9 loss. He’s allowed two earned runs or fewer in all four starts this season, though he’s not been very efficient and has yet to pitch past the sixth inning.

Rodriguez has three quality starts in four, and won the only game in which the Astros scored more than one run while he was in. He’s 1-0 with a 2.59 ERA in his past four starts against the Braves, and 2-1 with a 4.89 ERA in seven games (six starts) in his career against them. Chipper Jones is 4-for-12 with two homers against Rodriguez and Yunel Escobar is 4-for-9. Brian McCann is 0-for-8.

St. Louis is up 10-4.

Maybe the Braves can just go for a 20 game losing streak instead of 10.

I’m sure the Braves will find a way to lose to Houston.

‘A Nod is as Good as a Wink to a Blind Horse’ name of great Rod Stewart album of early 1970’s….

Succinct enough to apply to Cox and Wren?

Cox = delusional, denial, senile, just a stupid ol’ man. This is not Little League. Save your foolish happy talk for kids with happy meals.
Man up. Show some damn size. You put together this fetid roster. And unless the Make-A-Wish-Foundation helps out, this current lineup is dead. Now. And May and June. Dead is dead, no matter who you were in the past, rocket scientist, PhD, wino, hobo.

And Wren, as in Wreck. Broke-down ‘roid ranger Troy Glaus?
Needed to save money, so give away Javy Vasquez,,,for a rat named Melky. A rat in New York, A rat in Atlanta. But doesn’t stop Bobby from playing him every single day.

Please allow me to state some things:

1. Diaz needs to be playing everyday…if McLousy can’t hit left or right handers, Diaz can at least take care of one side of the plate.

2. Chipper is a waste and so Santa Glaus. All good teams have big bopper on 1st or 3rd or BOTH. We have neither. Chipper will have 5 more super specific/totally off the wall injuries before the All Star break while Glaus just will comtinue to stink.

3. We live in Atlanta and Jimmy Carter lives here, too. Can he call his boy Castro and see if they’ll take Escobar back?

4. TP simply needs to go.

5. BC sits Jay Hey…but allows McLousy, Melky and Glaus to plat everyday???

I’m sooo sideways about all of this…the Braves may be the worst team in MLB right now. They are no better than the 4th worst. Get it together!!!

This team needs a big shakeup. Trade anyone not named Heyward, JJ and Hanson. If it takes the trading of Escobar or McCann so be it. There were some proposals on MLBTR that sound pretty good, especially the one with Tampa. This team plays dead. It needs some speed snd a little more power. I know Freeman is not ready but bring him up and let him learn on the job. He can’t be no worse than Glaus. I think if this continues through May, something will happen. Wren, get busy and put some life in this team.

actually, Melky is starting to come around a little. He’s .265 in his last 10 games, 5 for 15 in the St Louis series. I say we go with Hinske, Melky, Heyward in the outfield. keep McLouth on the bench for pinch running and late inning defensive substituting. I’m not sure what to do with Glaus. We could let him go and give Kevin Millar a shot or call up Freddie Freeman.

Unreal. I try to take a positive out of a negative in every possible situation. Here is my positive on this crap they call a ball team. Maybe this time next year we will be free of Bobby Cox, TP, McDowell, and Chipper Jones. Maybe we can find a team dumb enough to take Derek Lowe off our hands, and then we can try to put a better team together with all that money saved.

Maybe Scheurholtz will see the light and realize that Frank Wren was fired in Baltimore for a REASON. Maybe Scheurholtz will pull double duty and be the Braves President and GM starting next season. Maybe we can get a manager, hitting coach, pitching coach, and gm who can actually get players in here that will help us. The only players that we brought in since last year that have helped are Hinske and Heyward.

Again, I know its far fetched, but if I don’t try to get some positive out of a negative, I get really pissed off. So that is my way of keeping calm and looking forward to the future without Cox, Pendleton, and McDowell, and hopefully Wren and Chipper. Its my fantasy, so don’t ruin it.

So they lose every day and nobody is saying anything about a change. All Cox can do is change lineups with other sorry hitters. The change needs to be Wren,Cox,and the coaching staff. I was planning on going to about 10 games with my family this year. I wouldn’t drive up to Atlanta to watch this rag-tag bunch for free. Worst road trip in 61 years huh? Who gives a flying @!@!? They got only themselves to blame for that crap. In the meantime, they are going to start making fans think twice about purchasing a ticket to watch this miserable team play to lose.

All of us fans were duped into believing that this season would be different just so we would spend money on this team. The whole everyone in the clubhouse gets along so great, and everyone wants to send Cox out in style bullsh@t.

Why are teams honoring Cox this year? Simple, they want to thank him for being so predictable and having such a easy victory and for hiring such lousy position coaches. If you hire a useless HC (Pendelton) your players won’t hit. If you hire a useless PC (McDowell) then your pitchers will bomb. When you sign a aging “slugger” that has never played the position that you signed him to play (Glaus) then you get a guy that costs you runs both at the plate and on the field.

Its simple, start replacing those useless people with people that can get the job done. The only way that can happen is to get rid of Bobby Cox. He has to much loyalty to useless coaches for some odd reason. Maybe its because he was a nobody when the Yankees gave him a chance to coach and he wants to pass that on to other nobody’s. Either the case, he is dragging this franchise down by his selfishness. He can’t leave fast enough for me, and now I have to endure another entire season of mediocre at best baseball from my favorite team.

The Phillies aren’t even playing that well. If the Braves were only .500, they’d be in the race. The Giants gave Halladay and Moyer trouble. The Braves didn’t even compete.
Wait another mnoth or so when Strasburg arrives in Washington. Then, we will be guaranteed the NL East cellar. Our former top draft pick in 2003 , Luis Atilano is 2-0 with the Nats and he’s only been there about 10 days. At least we got Daryl Ward for him ! Another steal !

The Wren deals just keep getting worse and worse…
Francoeur for R.Church then you waive Church. So you now have nothing for Francoeur. Drew one year rental for Wainwright. You now have nothing for Wainwright. Texeira 3 month rental for Andrus,Salty, and a starting pitcher. Tex signs with the Yankees.
These kind of deals is akin to trading your best worker at your company for nothing. How long would a GM or CEO last that lost their best workers to competitor or rival companies ? But Wren is secure ?

There are still those Bootlickers that defend TP to the hilt. They claim he has no effect on team hitting. To that I reply what is he doing there and why does he have a job? Granted a even a good hitting coach probably can’t take a career 200 hitter and make him a 300 hitter. The real purpose of the instructor is to instruct the hitter in a manner as to help create favorable conditions to improve his chances of success at hitting. Good hitters who often achieve Quality at Bats display the influence of a good hitting instructor. These are hitters who don’t give the pitcher a cheap out, who make the pitcher work harder, often work the pitch count in their favor. These are conditions rarely seen from Brave hitters, a direct indicator of poor hitting instruction.

Bradford from SC

I came home from work tonight after watching todays game off and on on TV. I must have looked pretty down or frustrated since my 5 yr boy (who caught a t-shirt at the Colorado game this season and is now a huge braves fan as well) greeted me and asked “whats wrong Dad?” I answered “JJ’ and Yunel got hurt and the braves lost again.”

He responded with a frown to match my own “is the season over already?” No, I said not till September. My son grinned from ear to ear and said “pleanty of time dad, wanna go play?”

Cheesy as hell I know, but it helped put things in perspective and made me feel a heck of alot better.

I agree, we do not want J schuerholz back. The Wainwright/Marquis for Eli Marrero and one year JD Drew was horrific as was all prospects for 1.5 year Texiera. These two deals wrecked the Braves as well as poor ability to judge talent by Cox and Wren. Vasquez for PunchnJudy Melky and some prospects was highway robbery. Wren was in such a hurry to get rid of Vasquez so he could free up some money to sign Glaus, as if everyone in Baseball was in a bidding war for Santa Glaus. It goes on and on and on. TP is so over his head it is unbelievable. Is Rod Carew available or Julio Franco.

Remember Wren says we have to wait for 50 games to tell what we have and that other teams are not interested in trading yet because they don’t know what they have. BS, Frank, What you are afraid to say is that when your roster is all hitting at or below .200, you have little to offer that any other team wants. Give up on this wretched season, trade some pitchers and they few young guys that have some value and get as many true prospects as you can. Oops, maybe you should hold off Frank, I don’t think your and Bobby’s evaluation of the propects would be that good. Maybe Liberty should hire a special evaluator to study any trade Wren,JS, and Booby Cox would make.

Bobby will come up with some excuse of how someone got injured, balls were hit at people, we played hard, we practiced today, we tried hard. Stop with the freaking excuses. At the end of the day, you lost. Be a man and admit it and stop with the other garbage. You can do anything and these people won’t fire you so go to the extreme. Let the pitchers hit first. Put Prado cleanup, McCann at first. Do something crazy Bobby. You can’t get fired after all of these years and this type of performance, now is the time to show the world what you really can do. Good gosh, tristan. What kind of fan comes here and tells us we are doomed before we even play? Oh, I know, an As*-tros fan.

The road trip was a big bump in the road. The streak will end and we might reel off a winning streak, but I think this situation shakes confidence from top to bottom. It will take weeks to regain any form of momentum.

This is a sad ending to BCs career. I can’t think of a team thats played so badly for the past few years keep the same mgmt and coaches year after year. McDowell, Pendleton have got to go THIS season. BC is already gone . wrenn is still around making his usual excuses, where is a word from our esteemed team pres. JS or is he just hiding and collecting his pay from Liberty. This whole situation stinks. Last year I had a package, this year I’m staying home and may give up watching them on tv. This is the worst since 2005. BOYCOTT THE BRAVES!!!!BOYCOTT THE BRAVES!!!!!!

OK, here we go…..this season is shot, nothing can be done unless all of these castoffs suddenly learn to hit (best plan: stop listening to Pendleton). They’d have to go ~ 82-58 the remainder of the way to make the playoffs…anyone wanna bet their mortgage on that??

Nothing will happen until trade deadline in a couple of months or so – by then the Bravos will be about 15 games under .500. So….what happens then?

JJ, Hanson, McCann, Prado and Heyward are untouchable. The rest has no trade value at all except Huddy and Escobar. Huddy never has pitched as well here as he did in Oakland, so if you can get value (as determined by someone OTHER than Wren), do the deal.

As far as Yunel…he’s got to be the moodiest, most depressed, down-in-the-dumps, BiPolar, self-centered player around. World class talent – 10 cent head. It’s obvious he has no friends on this team, hasn’t hardly attempted to learn English, and obviously hates it here. His ONLY contact is the bench coach, Chino Cadahia (sp?) – Chino has become a baby-sitter.

When Cox retires at year’s end, ALL of the coaches will no doubt go (possible exception of Eddie Perez), which means Chino’s gone and Escobar is completely alone. That’ll help his attitude, huh?

He’s cheap, very talented and must be made available to other teams in a trade – should be able to get a major league ready infielder in return. Don’t wait until he hits arbitration and you have to start wasting millions on his sorry demeanor.

So, at the end of the seasong what should take place? New manager and coaches will help tremendously; Chipper is “forced” into backing up his promise to retire after another horrible year – cut a deal with him for retiring early by making him the new hitting coach – perfect fit there.

Bring up Freeman; give Glaus directions to Marta; move Prado to 3rd, hope that Schafer is healthy (if so, he WILL be good). Make Smoltz the new pitching coach. Tell Melky that Glaus needs a ride to Marta.

Obviously still some holes there, but…….that is called rebuilding, something the Braves mgmt should have acknowledged 3 years ago and taken action then.

This is NOT fixable in 2010, don’t make the mistake of trying.

Wren, if that is really you, please get off your butt and get us a hitter! Without one more hitter, this season is lost, you putz!

I wonder what the attendance will be tonite? I wouldn’t be shocked to see a crowd of less than 20,000..Atlanta is a fickle town, and we don’t support teams with out cash when they aren’t winning..why should we?
