I heard Lon Trost the Yanks CEO on the radio this morning. As of today the Yanks have 3.3 million tickets sold for this season already! They won’t break their old record in attendance because the new park is smaller but I think it’s safe to say that all the talk about the negative affect of the higher ticket costs has passed. Funny how winning a WS does that.

Some folks are never satisfied. They say “Get rid of the bum!” and when the Braves do, they say “why did you get rid of that guy with a 95 mph fastball when you have another bum in the system!”.

Never satisfied.

Kinda like the bunch who have given up on McLouth, a year after the sweetheart deal we made w/ Pittsburg to get him….. Now he has no arm, can’t hit and is a bum on top of everything.

(well, OK maybe I am exaggerating a bit, but I just tire of hearing the complaining)

I too am big on Kawakami. He is a clutch pitcher.

And I would be happy with a 265/365/445 and 20 dingers and 100 runs out of McLouth. Nate is a decent ballplayer. Never an all star, but how many are?

Brian from SC, I’m not saying give up on Marek, but I just figure the odds would have been more in our favor of slipping him through waivers. The guy walked more than struck out and had an ERA of 6 over a complete season. In his mostly second year of AA. Red Flags pop up everywhere on the guy.

More than a troubling few here feel the same way. In other words, for a team that had excellent OBP last year and a poor rate of converting that into runs, the best option will be to take a guy who can actually be an added run-producer and put him in an on-base slot? That about the size of it?

McLouth does have a subpar arm but other than that he is a very serviceable CF. He will probably never hit for high avg, but he probably will hit 16-20 HR’s if healthy and steal alot more bases than anyone we have had in a while. If he gets a hit or walks it’s pretty much like he just hit a double. I can see if Prado hits behind him alot of steals and Prado bunting him to third or hitting to the right side behind NAte exactly where MArtin needs to be focused. CHipper up, runner on 3rd and one out. I like that.

I think the majority of people who want to see Heyward batting 2nd want him there so he will see better pitches. Granted that may be true but like scoots said, your taking away the reason he was brought up. He didn’t come up to move runners over and hit a bunch of solo homers. The best use for Heyward is to have him in the 6/7 hole where he will have the best chance to drive in runs and produce.

I love Bobby (kind of), but it seems you can’t tell much about a player by his evaluations. At least not when he talks to the press.

I kinda disagree with that. If you read any individual quote in isolation, it’s hard to gauge what he’s thinking or how he came to that conclusion. However, if you listen to him enough, and remember enough of what he says about people, you have a frame of reference to give context to those individual quotes.

I forget now who the poster was yesterday who said it, but he said something like when you read Bobby’s quotes, you have to convert them so that good = okay, very good = good, great = very good, and so on and so on. I also think you can tell how Bobby’s feeling about a guy when he’s singing his praises, or on those rare times when he trashes a player. You can also tell he’s not sure how he feels at the moment when there is radio silence about a player. He’d prefer not to say anything until he gets a better feel for it, or he just feels like if you don’t have anything nice to say, then say nothing.

Sometimes when he’s saying nice things, he knows he’s stuck with a player on the roster for whatever reason at the moment, so he has to try to make the best of it. Sometimes he knows the guy’s confidence is waning, and needs to know that his manager will publicly support him.

Also, alot of times you’ve got to read what he’s saying to understand the thought process. Sometimes, some guy will suck, but he’ll like the movement on his pitches, or that he was getting grounders, or that he was missing bats, or that he’s just missing his spots, or that a hitter was hitting right at ‘em, or that a hitter was battling and making a pitcher work, and so on.

Most of the time I roll my eyes as well, but keep what he said in mind. When he sings the praises today, but then downgrades his praise a month or two later, you know something is going on.

I’m happy for Jeff that he is happy after 2 months in NY. You can be sure that he’ll let you know when he doesn’t like it there anymore. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the golden boy in September, when he’s only 18 or so short of his self-predicted 27 HR.

“Especially this year when your boys appear to have the upper hand on my Mets for the first time since I’ve been here.”

What? Last year doesn’t count? Your team finished 22 games back, the BRaves have been above the Muts, 15 out of the last 19 years. And 7 out of the last 10. This year will be 8 of the last 11. WHere have you been?

Ingrown toenails can turn into some nasty critters. All sorts of funk can build in the side of your toe if you don’t get the thing treated.

My brother had to get his toenails ripped off because his were so bad.

anders The Braves didn’t “need” anything? Really? You want to re-think that one? I mean, you had Diaz/Church and Anderson in the corners after Frenchy was traded. That worked for you?

what the braves needed was to get rid of frenchy. did you notice the way the braves played after the deadline? id say diaz anderson and church worked out ok, especially compared to when frenchy was in there.

Lew- Yes, you or me or DOB may have one, but these baseball players who earn millions are supposed to take care of themselves in those areas better than you and me, and especially Chipper, given all those miscellaneous injuries including his foot/feet in the past several years, you’d think he’d examine his feet at least 3 times a day to make sure nails are cut on time, etc., which is why you don’t hear ingrown toenail injuries that often amongst baseball players. He is not you or me.

Anders,

The Braves started WINNING ballgames AFTER Francouer was traded. Did you happen to see the Braves record after that trade? Only the Phillies had a better record than the Braves during that span, and I believe it was only one game. We can very close to the WC spot, so in answer to this comment:

I’d say things worked very well for us. And no one give a rats behind about Ryan Church…there’s a new sherriff in town…perhaps you have heard of him…Jason Heyward?
