Get a job people
Hey! I have a job…it just so happens that I only have to work on Wednesdays.
Bwahahhaha, run Jeff run
Francouer walked. NOW the percentages are in favor of a lottery win or something. Nate gets a hit and Frenchy walks in the SAME INNING.
March 23rd, 20101:46 pm
blauser- naw heard Chris Berman call him that one time. Thought it was funny
I like your editorial comments.
a very merciful gesture by tommy to put francoeur on…he figures he’ll strike him out plenty when the season starts, wanted to know what it would feel like to walk him once.
March 23rd, 20101:47 pm
Spam us anytime, ABTSteve.
Oh, come on Frenchy!
You know you want to see if you can beat McCann’s throw…
Come on now… oranges have all kinds of personality.
Didn’t Glaus wear #8 at his intro, now he has 25 on??????
March 23rd, 20101:49 pm
Matthews rips a single to RF. First really well hit ball for Mets. 1st and 3rd 2 outs.
March 23rd, 20101:50 pm
i find it hard to believe Mazzone’s former players think he’s a tool…however, i have no doubt his personality sucks…probably made him a good pitching coach.
I would rather have the three stooges calling the game than these three idiots on espn.
March 23rd, 20101:51 pm
Barajas flies to rf. no damage. end of 2. 1-0 braves.
Really?! They weren’t just trying to get our hopes up, were they?
Roman Gal – I like that we have the same taste in hopeless(ish) players. Schafer, KJ…
Leo’s a Braves icon who’s lost on the 680 morning show…especially when he’s talking about anything other than baseball. I hope he’ll have a chance to get back in the real game some day.
its crazy to me that ESPN, the apex of sports coverage, has the worst possible baseball commentators.
You’re never going to keep up with Mauer working one day a week
March 23rd, 20101:52 pm
Sat with Mazzone and his girlfriend at a Hall of Fame luncheon. He ignored everyone at the table but his girlfriend. He was a complete jerk. Lost all respect for Mazzone.
March 23rd, 20101:53 pm
I think Jon Miller is good. He just needs to learn how to dress better.
“Leo’s a Braves icon who’s lost on the 680 morning show”
Get him outta here!
louis I’m actually surprised Leo isnt on a team. You would think that a lot of teams need experienced coaching. Maybe he doesnt want to and is enjoying being part of the media.
March 23rd, 20101:54 pm
atleast steve phillips is gone away
March 23rd, 20101:55 pm
I think Braves fans are going to be pleasantly surprised by Melky Cabrera.
There were no tears shed from Cox or any of the players when Mazzone left. That was even reported here back when he left.
I like that we have the same taste in hopeless(ish) players. jeffrey d
Oh, no! Don’t even go there with Schafer. He is NOThopeless(ish). He’s just injured.
JTH- i agree, you would think he would have had some offers to coach…
Melky lead off walk. Up twice, on twice.
March 23rd, 20101:56 pm
Melky keeps impressing me this spring.
You would think that a lot of teams need experienced coaching. Maybe he doesnt want to and is enjoying being part of the media
Maybe he’s just waiting for the right team and doesn’t want to play for someone like the Nats
chip carey's eyebrows
It’s too easy to say that it’s been 4 years since Leo left, and it’s been 4 years since the Braves won a division. It’s also true. I think his impact has been minimized (especially by the Braves front office) but at the same time he made his own bed by leaving. I do wish he would replace McDowell. What has McDowell done?
i’ve already been pleasantly surprised by cabrera, and i was not one of the ones crying when we got him in the trade
Prado pops up.
Prado pops out.
March 23rd, 20101:57 pm
Yeah, Mauer earns my average salary in .01 innings. But to be fair, I work really hard…for at least 1/2 the time I’m at work.
T for Texas
Everyone talks about Melky being a “serviceable fourth outfielder.” I don’t see it. Dude looks like a good every day guy to me.
March 23rd, 20101:58 pm
One good thing about the Mets Coverage is that it actually shows the baseball game, ESPN just shows interviews and you miss the whole game.
Chipper just missed a HR. Foul ball.
Chipper just misses HR foul down RF line (batting right).
i don’t think any of us can really know for sure what mcdowell has actually done, but i don’t have any issue with him…what do you think he’s done wrong?
March 23rd, 20101:59 pm
Chipper singles and cabrera gunned down at third.
do work chipper…i hope he tears it up this year
That was a good play by the Mets to get Melky there. If there’s one thing French Fry can do well, it’s throw.
Even I admit I SUCK !!!!
Who else but Bobby Cox would let a .216 hitter start at second?
Melky pulls a Yunel Escobar.
He is NOThopeless(ish).
I know…I wouldn’t like him if he was. But a lot of people have written him off/forgotten about him when he’s one of my favorites and I’m looking forward to him being in the outfield for awhile.
Chipper “fists” a single to right (credit to Chip Caray). But Melky thrown out trying to get to 3rd.
Not sure if you’re checking in on the blogizens today, but we just finished up a pretty amazing SXSW down in the ATX. Had the chance to see Ray Davies do a solo set which would’ve been awesome in and of itself. But then he pulled out this group The 88 (which played before him) and they blasted through a bunch of Kinks/Jam tunes. Absolute ruckus.
Have you ever made it down here for SXSW or ACL?
March 23rd, 20102:00 pm
Not that Frenchy threw that ball…
Never said Melky ws a stellar base runner, though.
Glaus strikes out again.
Glaus Ks again. Still 1-0.
March 23rd, 20102:01 pm
Swing and a miss for Glaus
March 23rd, 20102:02 pm
i’m ready for T-roy to start blasting some balls
March 23rd, 20102:03 pm
he’s one of my favorites and I’m looking forward to him being in the outfield for awhile.
Me too! I honestly believe that he’ll be really good. Maybe not Heyward good, but he’s got all the tools he needs to be successful. I’m definitely looking forward to an outfield with Schafer and Heyward in it. It’s gonna be GREAT!
If Joe Morgan would shut-up maybe the wind blowing across the field would die down enough for someone to hit a homer.
The Brave’s might just have the best pitching staff in baseball…I think Roger McDowell has done a fine job.I always liked the way he pitched for the Mets back in the 80’s..now maybe the Brave’s will be reborn again in Bobby’s last year.
March 23rd, 20102:04 pm
Oliver Perez check swing liner to Chipper. 1 out.
My God, do I hate listening to Miller and Morgan.
Frenchy does have a nice arm. Mekly has a good arm, too.
I know who my front runner is to replace Cox, good ole rockin Leo!
March 23rd, 20102:05 pm
I’m definitely looking forward to an outfield with Schafer and Heyward in it
Too bad we can’t have a Schafer/Heyward/KJ outfield
Alex Cora singles to rf.
Single for Cora.
March 23rd, 20102:06 pm
ESPN will chat with Bobby next.
I don’t like Chip Caray. But listening to Joe Morgan makes me miss Chip.
You can’t have too much of a good thing. Karmic imbalance and all that…
Just to clear this up, KELLY JOHNSON WAS THE ABSOLUTE WORST! I have never seen 1 man bring a team down like this a hole. 2 years in a row he started the downfall.
I remember last ST when they were interviewing Bobby during the game and he kept cussing. Cracked me up!
March 23rd, 20102:07 pm
throw strikes Tommy
March 23rd, 20102:08 pm
Walk by Hanson.
Castillo walks. 1st and 2nd 1 out for Wright.
Hanson laboring here.
Keith Hernandez on Mets broadcast on MLB.com is talking about the Mets bullpen, saying they have five spots that are in question, have no set-up man designated, and not enough guys throwing well in ST to cover those five slots. A bad bullpen at the back of that rotation? Runs will be scored on the Mets.
March 23rd, 20102:09 pm
Wright pops to center
Wright pops to CF on 1st pitch.
KELLY JOHNSON WAS THE ABSOLUTE WORST!
So does “A” stand for “absurd” or “azzwipe”?
has Wright and/or Wrights massive arms been hitting any homers this spring?
March 23rd, 20102:10 pm
2 years in a row he started the downfall
What was wrong with his 2008? BTW, clever name A
Brian from SC
I looked earlier, and from memory, he Wright has 3 HR, but only 7 hits overall. Hitting in .100’s somewhere.
ahh, forget it. We’re not gonna reopen the KJ debate. It’s very old news
March 23rd, 20102:11 pm
Joe Morgan only reads “Pro-Morgan” websites … all 2 of them. There are 3,252 “Anti-Mogan” sites, but Joe thinks they’re ignorant and don’t know how to pronounce “accurate” like he does.
Wow, Bay thought he was going to get drilled on that hook.
I think there’s an extra word in there somewhere. Feel free to take one out.
March 23rd, 20102:12 pm
Escobar boots it at SS. game tied at 1.
Bay liner to SS. Eats up Yunel. 1 run in.
I keep telling this “Hey-Wood” guy, “You’ll NEVER see a better pitch than the FIRST one!! SWING at it, and swing for the fence!!”, but he don’t listen, yet…but give me time, he’ll be another Frenchy in NO time!!
And all the players started heading for the dugout after that pitch. Then the batter singles over Escobar’s glove.
Mike (original formula)

Nice to see the blog thundering hard out of the gates today. Makes my day go by a little easier. I noticed that “T for Texas” has shown up. That’s one of my favorite Waylon songs. I don’t know if that’s where you got it from, but I’ve always felt like Waylon and baseball go great together. Just heard on Sportscenter about an hour and a half ago that Orel himself thinks Heyward is a darkhorse candidate for (dare I say it) ROY and NL MVP. Hey, I like the guy and what he’s doing, but I’d say MVP is a bit of a stretch.
ha, yes noticed the extra word, but thanks…i saw a picture of his arms a few weeks ago and they were ridiculous…just wondering if its helped at all
From the last blog:
Still chuckling at the Grinch @ 7:05.
Danga @ 8:53 am
Check these out from stats from the 2009 season:
Fewest Left on Base: 951 wins, 1322 losses, .418 winning percentage (Also: 157 ties).
More Times on Base: 1880 wins, 393 losses, .827 winning percentage (Also: 157 ties).
I am fully aware of the concept of OBP, and do not require an elementary lecture. The original statement under rebuttal was “RBI are overrated” (along with HR).
Check out these Braves stats from 2009:
Number of games with 9 or more LOB (one per inning avg): 58
W-L record in those 58 games: 32 – 26 (.552 winning percentage)
Number of these games lost by 1 or 2 runs: 14
Number of these losses in which our Braves had 2 or less RBI: 6
If the Braves had produced more RBI in the close losses, their record of 86 – 76 would have been closer to the Pythagorean of 91 – 71. It also would have made the playoff race more interesting.
This makes a lot of sense too.
March 23rd, 20102:14 pm
Yeah, Wright has seven hits, but it gives him a .226 avg. So I was kinda right.
Agree with the announcers on Yunel there. Pretty nonchalant play by SS.
The Ghost of P.L.
Olayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Roger Doran must be Escobar’s role model, lol.
Murphy struck out. Inning over.
March 23rd, 20102:15 pm
What the heck did he just swing at? Was he expecting it to bounce up to a hittable height?
Roman Gal………..Francoeur didnt throw out Cabrera on that play. It was Daniel Murphy the Mets 1st baseman. Francoeur was lallygagging towards the ball hit to short right field.
.100’s, .226…it’s all the same…especially if you’re a Met
The Mets play at tradition field. What is this tradition they keep talking about?
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
