Sat with Mazzone and his girlfriend at a Hall of Fame luncheon. He ignored everyone at the table but his girlfriend. He was a complete jerk. Lost all respect for Mazzone.

It’s too easy to say that it’s been 4 years since Leo left, and it’s been 4 years since the Braves won a division. It’s also true. I think his impact has been minimized (especially by the Braves front office) but at the same time he made his own bed by leaving. I do wish he would replace McDowell. What has McDowell done?

I know…I wouldn’t like him if he was. But a lot of people have written him off/forgotten about him when he’s one of my favorites and I’m looking forward to him being in the outfield for awhile.

Not sure if you’re checking in on the blogizens today, but we just finished up a pretty amazing SXSW down in the ATX. Had the chance to see Ray Davies do a solo set which would’ve been awesome in and of itself. But then he pulled out this group The 88 (which played before him) and they blasted through a bunch of Kinks/Jam tunes. Absolute ruckus.
Have you ever made it down here for SXSW or ACL?

Me too! I honestly believe that he’ll be really good. Maybe not Heyward good, but he’s got all the tools he needs to be successful. I’m definitely looking forward to an outfield with Schafer and Heyward in it. It’s gonna be GREAT!

The Brave’s might just have the best pitching staff in baseball…I think Roger McDowell has done a fine job.I always liked the way he pitched for the Mets back in the 80’s..now maybe the Brave’s will be reborn again in Bobby’s last year.

Nice to see the blog thundering hard out of the gates today. Makes my day go by a little easier. I noticed that “T for Texas” has shown up. That’s one of my favorite Waylon songs. I don’t know if that’s where you got it from, but I’ve always felt like Waylon and baseball go great together. Just heard on Sportscenter about an hour and a half ago that Orel himself thinks Heyward is a darkhorse candidate for (dare I say it) ROY and NL MVP. Hey, I like the guy and what he’s doing, but I’d say MVP is a bit of a stretch.

Check these out from stats from the 2009 season:
Fewest Left on Base: 951 wins, 1322 losses, .418 winning percentage (Also: 157 ties).
More Times on Base: 1880 wins, 393 losses, .827 winning percentage (Also: 157 ties).
I am fully aware of the concept of OBP, and do not require an elementary lecture. The original statement under rebuttal was “RBI are overrated” (along with HR).
Check out these Braves stats from 2009:
Number of games with 9 or more LOB (one per inning avg): 58
W-L record in those 58 games: 32 – 26 (.552 winning percentage)
Number of these games lost by 1 or 2 runs: 14
Number of these losses in which our Braves had 2 or less RBI: 6
If the Braves had produced more RBI in the close losses, their record of 86 – 76 would have been closer to the Pythagorean of 91 – 71. It also would have made the playoff race more interesting.
This makes a lot of sense too.

Roman Gal………..Francoeur didnt throw out Cabrera on that play. It was Daniel Murphy the Mets 1st baseman. Francoeur was lallygagging towards the ball hit to short right field.
