I like ESCO in the leadoff Spot but Bobby won’t let him steal bases…
Plus I’d rather have Esco lower in the order (6th or 7th) because he was clutch. He was among the ML leaders last year hitting w/ R.I.S.P. and some publications call him the team M.V.P. of the second 1/2 last year becuase of that…
Heyward Up Heyward Down
Oh and Ghost…. DOB seems to sum it up quite well and he is right there in the middle of the situation. But of course you must know more than him because you read Moneyball, huh?
So is he naive to think Heyward starts the season in RF?
Do not mention the name Heyward in the same sentence as Francoeur or I will kill you!
After Francoeur’s first season we were all clamoring for him to be rookie of the year
sac fly for mclouth.
The Ghost of P.L.
I think that Hinske did better on that pinch hit appearance then Greg Norton did in all of 2009.
McLouth sac fly to score the Braves fourth run. 4-2 Braves.
March 9th, 20108:20 pm
Tomahawkin – mclouth got the bat on one
McLouth and Prado prolly deserve a bit of a pass for striking out twice against Halladay.
Madsen on the other hand is sucking wind.
March 9th, 20108:21 pm
jeffrey d, I know you are a fan of Jeff’s but there is really no comparison of talent level.
summer of 91
hinske will do way more than pinch hit this year, chip and glaus will probably do 15 day dl stints at some point.
Larry (in SC)
In every way. The DVR for one. I get about 160 hrs. from DirecTV . With Time Warner Cable it topped out at 80, at the same price…The remote control does so much more than cable’s did. It is much “smarter”.The only drawback for me is the commercials seem louder than on cable…They say no, but I don’t know
Long AB for Prado. Eventually draws a walk.
March 9th, 20108:23 pm
if we could get chip to take some throws at first base then hinske, glaus and chip would be interchangable parts.
Ghost of P.L., you are a douche and should be pricked with needle nose pliers and kept away from technology. You make people dumber for having to read your garbage, but at the same time, you make feel smarter too. Weird.
Chipper lines out to LF to end the inning.
This is definitely not the same team as a year ago.
Coach (2011 or Bust)
Halliday leaves after three innings of dominance, meat (Madson) is on the mound and the Braves light him up for four runs. Go figure, it must be spring training.
The reason I ask, Larry, is that I just bought a house and am thinking about going to DirecTV.
No “real” lead-off guy on this team….and McLouth just doesn’t seem like he does well there, even though he has the speed to do it. So, why not:
1. Prado (at least as patient if not more tha McLouth and decent speed)
2. Heyward (I think he would really benefit here)
7. McLouth (good power and lower obp seems to be a better fit here)
Nice to see the Phillies pen in mid-season form so early
March 9th, 20108:24 pm
Larry, what channel is PTV on DirecTV? I’m about to move into a new house and I don’t believe TWC is giong to carry PTV….plus i’m fed up with their crappy quality.
hinske has done well so far. nice to be able to plug him into a few spots
March 9th, 20108:25 pm
This is definitely not the same team as a year ago
Love the Braves in NC
I am in North Carolina and, of course, am blacked out on MLBN. This is the ONLY place I can get a play by play. Thanks so much. I have Direct TV and much prefer it over cable.
Infante in at 2nd, Thurston at 3rd. O’Flaherty on to pitch.
March 9th, 20108:26 pm
JoeRochester – I don’t know why a serious sports fan with go with anything but DirectTV… that’s just me.
PTC is channel 17 on Direct TV
PTV….not the Parent’s Television Council
Single through the left side hole for Bocock.
Rob from SC

summer of 91
Chipper MUST bat third
Chipper MUST play third.
I’m just playing Mekons. Sorry. I’m a sarcastic dude.
I don’t regret switching from cable to Directv from cable at all. Better quality and more stations for same prices. Also more recording hrs and such as others have mentioned.
Meanwhile, I forgot to mention that I already have my tickets for Opening Day. I got tickets for all 3 games against the Giants. Hopefully we will do better than we did last year when the Giants swept us in May.
March 9th, 20108:28 pm
After Heyward’s first year we’ll all be clamoring for him to be MVP.
McLouth tracks down a fly ball in left center field. 1 on, 1 out.
March 9th, 20108:29 pm
I have yet to find a better option than Directv.
They offer you essentially everything. Yes, you have to pay “extra” for some things, but at least you have access to them.
Meanwhile, I’m “stuck” with Uverse.
Rollins flies to center. 2 out.
who is pitching
EOF making sure McLouth gets some defensive work this inning.
March 9th, 20108:30 pm
I despise MLB Network, what a worthless tease!
March 9th, 20108:31 pm
The only reason I’m apprehensive about DirecTV is because of internet service. it’s cheaper to have it combined with cable.
joerochester, I won’t ever go back to cable. The customer service sucks. I used to have TWC’s phone number on my “Fav 5’s” (not really, but I told them I did), as I called so much. I switched to DirecTV a little over a year ago. Last week my DVR gave a little msg. telling me to call customer service. I called and they (directv) said my receiver needed replacing. They over-nighted it to me and gave me 90 days free Showtime because I lost my recordings…
Jay and Grant, the Ghost Hunters
UKUGA/brent a., March 9th, 2010, 8:28 pm … “After Heyward’s first year we’ll all be clamoring for him to be MVP.”
Not everyone. The “recurring phantasm” seems to think that an MVP will make Heyward cost too much.
March 9th, 20108:32 pm
the only thing about direct tv —have you ever tried cancelling with them? they have you locked in for two if not three years and they want hella dinero to break the contract that alot of people did’nt know they were signing to begin with. I swore when i finally got free and clear from them that I would never use them again. They all blow really, but for now comcast works for me.
Thurston leads Infante into the 2nd base bag to get the third out of the inning.
Infante bailed out Thurston on that play.
Heath,we are in agreement on the need to put Heyward in the 2 slot in the lineup. It will give him better pitches to see batting in front of Chipper and put some more speed at top of lineup.
March 9th, 20108:33 pm
For those that think a K is such a bad thing. Please read this.
As you can see by the round, lifeless blob in the middle of the graph, there is virtually no positive correlation between a team’s strikeout totals and its runs-scored totals. When it comes to offense, an out is an out is an out.
Cable internet is pretty good…a lot faster than dsl. That is the only reason I have any services from cable companies now. (No need for home phone.) Packaging internet and cable together might same you a few bucks…it just boils down to what you want.
March 9th, 20108:34 pm
Thanks a ton for the play-by-play here on the blog, folks. Can’t get it on tv and radio feed is totally messed up. Thanks again!
Honestly, I’ve been fairly happy with Time Warner. But I heard the HD looks a lot better on DirecTV. Is that true?
JoeRochetster – I would say its worth it if you have the $$$. I can watch pretty much any sporting event except I want… excpet a SAT afternoon baseball game that is not the the game that FOX is showing. What is that about? I NEVER watch the game that Fox is showing just because itis the only game I can get… never! Anyone else?
In the area I live in rural Douglas @ Carroll County line DirectTV would go out everytime it rained hard or thunder. So did the DishNetwork. We have Comcast and it offers 185 channels plus On Demand and HD. We can pick up all Braves games on any channel it is offered.
I use cable internet because it’s Roadrunner and FAST! I still use TWC for that. I told them I was going to change my internet service to my Direct, so they knocked $10 off each month for a year so I wouldn’t leave…
March 9th, 20108:35 pm
Granted, putting the ball in play, whether in the air or on the ground, can sometimes enable a hitter to advance a runner, but it also increases the chance of hitting into a double-play—a far greater rally-killer than a strikeout.
Shane – what about runners in scoring postion?
summer of 91, March 9th, 2010, 8:32 pm … “the only thing about direct tv —have you ever tried cancelling with them? they have you locked in for two if not three years and they want hella dinero to break the contract”
Some moons ago, you were able to buy Directv hardware (receivers, dish, et al) at a discounted price. You had to agree to maintain the service for a year or pay the full hardware price.
Now, you rent the hardware and return it when you no longer want/need it. I don’t think you have to sign a contract anymore.
I also don’t see Heyward wrapping into a lot of double plays because of good speed and his affinity to hit the ball in the air. Just my 2 cents though.
I appreciate everyone’s input. I’m just trying to figure out what we can do financially. I mean, 10-20 more bucks a month for superior service is probably worth it.
summer of 91………my 2 year contract with Direct TV ran out long ago. I havent had any problems with them. In fact, the longer you are with them, the more free stuff they give you, particularly if you order stuff like MLB Package and the NFL Ticket. All you have to do is just call and ask them what they can do for you.
“Troy Glaus is 2 for 2 and is smoking hot!”
Never heard the PBP guy compliment the way a player looks…
March 9th, 20108:36 pm
Wait til you get a load of Chip Caray this year.
Glaus another hit! Sheesh!
March 9th, 20108:37 pm
joerochester……..shelling out a few dollars extra per month for Direct TV is worth it. Bank on it.
Good comment by Brian Jordan:
“You’ve made your point. You’re healthy.” lol
How many hits in a row is that for Glaus?
Glaus is now 8-8! Lines a single over short stop.
Baez in to pitch for the Phils.
March 9th, 20108:38 pm
Wow Glaus 8 straight hits
At the end of the day, that is probably what you are looking at in terms of added costs. Unless you have a bunch of tvs that need boxes.
joe thought you were att employee do you not get the discounts?>
March 9th, 20108:39 pm
Read the whole article. Granted its dry as heck but its spells it out pretty clearly.
McCann draws a walk. 1st and 2nd. No outs.
I work for an ATT vendor. ATT outsources a lot of its sales and customer care. I’m not supposed to tell you that, though.
Since this is a satellite v cable blog, I’ve had Dish, and liked it ok. Ever try to cancel them? They screwed me, charged me about $150 for a “part” on my roof.
I’m in the Atlanta area, and Comcast is reliable (no t-storms knock out the signal), and no jerk coming out to plant a dish on my roof.
jeffrey d: Wait til you get a load of Chip Caray this year.
That’s funny.. my wife is cooking in the kitchen but when she overheard that, she said, “Is that Chip?”
March 9th, 20108:40 pm
Why is MLBN showing game 4 of the 1991 Series?
I love seeing McCann batting 5th, as opposed to 4th. Due to him being a catcher and needing more off days than other regulars………..it’s important that whoever we have batting cleanup will play every day.
If Glaus can stay healthy, then he’ll end up playing more than McCann. A healthy, productive Glaus would lessen the impact of giving McCann off days (which is essential if McCann is going to be fresh later in the season).
I also appreciate the play-by-play, too! It sucks being stuck at work.
Yunel with his patented swing, miss, drop the bat.
I have heard att tv is pretty good. How bad can it be if it is over fiber-optic lines? Should be great in my mind. If they had it hear, I would like to get it to package cellphone, internet, and tv to save money and get good service. The only thing I don’t know about att tv service is what channels they offer relative to DirecTv
didn’t realize you were with a vendor…remember I’m with them as well
March 9th, 20108:41 pm
March 9th, 2010
… when she heard the comment by the PBP guy… she obviously did not hear your blog posting…
Morris versus Smoltz and the Lemmer wins it in the bottom of the night. I want to see the 2010 BRAVES!
hear? what what that? sorry for the goof.
March 9th, 20108:42 pm
Yunel grounds into his patented 5-4-3 double play.
Glaus at third with 2 outs.
Heyward strides into the batter’s box.
March 9th, 20108:43 pm
Heyward up again…
March 9th, 20108:44 pm
Interesting… heyward was aggressive both times he came up with a runner in scoring position.. pretty aggressive swings at the first pitch both times.
Cable, internet, dsl and phone line with Comcast $179 All features included on all products (voicemail, call waiting etc)
I have Dish TV and like it. Since I live in Chicago, they carry some Cardinal and Brewer games as long as they don’t conflict with the Cubs. So every now and then I get a bonus Braves game. Otherwise, it’s only when they play the Cubs or are on ESPN. There are also ways to watch on the Internet, but the quality is usually awful.
March 9th, 20108:45 pm
what did Heyward do
March 9th, 20108:46 pm
Do you have a really good TV package?
Chipper wearing a cross.
Heyward pops out to LF to end the inning.
Ortegano in to pitch for the Braves.
Base hit up the middle for Howard to lead off the inning.
March 9th, 20108:48 pm
I’m looking to transfer to ATT.com or Stubhub.
What A F’d Up night…I got the game blacked out at my Pad and now the Bar that I’m at, well the game is blacked out there as well…
guess its time to head back to the Pad and chill out to some old Sade. and Herb Albert…
March 9th, 20108:49 pm
Werth “fists” a ball into RF. Blanco (now in RF) tried to throw Howard out at third, but the throw was too late.
First and third with no outs.
Troy Glaus is playing extremely well.
Nate McLouth concerns me. I’m not convinced that Matt Diaz shouldn’t bat leadoff.
Hicks in at SS.
March 9th, 20108:50 pm
Double inside the third base bag. Howard and Werth score.
Tie game, 4-4.
Anyone know what that Tattoo that Chipper has on his arm means? And when did he get it…?
That Tat Rules!
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
