jeffrey d……..While Brian Jordan is in the announcer’s booth, you cant call what he is doing as “announcing”. It’s more like yapping it up while trying to sound insightfully funny.

Dies Irae we got our butts kicked by them in the second half when it counted.

Yeah, but had they’d done the exact opposite–gotten their butts kicked in the first half and then beaten them “when it counted”–they would have ended up in the same position.

I wouldn’t know because we’re blacked out.

But what I do know about BJ is that while doing the pregame he stutters and has awkward pauses at least twice a sentence. He’s a great guy and a great Brave, but you can’t hire somebody that can’t talk to be an announcer based on previous accomplishments. It’s too painful

Sorry guys but this is my main gripe with Cox, he give preferential treatment to guys like that. His job is to put together the best line up he can that day PERIOD. If Chipper has a year like last year and Jason takes off, who is best served in the 3 hole? A wash up over a riser? Sorry but that does not fly. As a regular attendie of games, that’s not what I pay for. I pay to see us win, you do that with the best lineup, evryday.

Seriously. OK, I’m dating myself here, but remember OJ Simpson and Joe Namath’s attempts at broadcasting for Monday Night Football? Geez, what agony that was.

Then again, John Sterling certainly spoke clearly enough, but I don’t think anyone pines for his days as a Braves announcer. Darrel Chaney, anyone?

I tell you what: Cody Johnson just surprised me a great deal with how well he ran to second base on that double. For such a big guy who doesn’t look too athletic, he’s really not a bad runner.

And if it the ball had traveled a few more feet, he could have jogged. It was that close to being a two-out homer in the ninth.

Picked up an excellent new CD while I was home in Atlanta, by band calling itself Broken Bells, which is made up of the guy whose stage name is Danger Mouse (from Gnarls Barkley), and James Mercer from The Shins. Just my opinion, McFann, but I think when you consider all of the numbers that matter on offense (HRs, RBI, AVG, etc.) I think that B. Mac is the best offensive threat that the Bravos have had in the past 2-3 years.

I have a feeling that if you asked the managers around the league who they would least like to face on the Braves when the games is on the line, I believe most of them would say Brian McCann.

I would have to think that those Silver Slugger awards that he has won would have to count for something. :)

Wagner said he didn’t mind being booed in a “home” game (some of the many Phillies fans in attendance booed him, from his days with Philly). Said the important thing was that there were plenty of people in the seats to boo, cheer or whatever.

I doubt Glaus will be as good as our last few 1B defensively, but he’ll be fine. Our last three are considered among the top defensive 1B in baseball and probably in many years. Tex was a pretty good 3B but a dynamite 1B. Glaus has that potential, but he’s quite a bit older than when Tex shifted to 1B. Gotta admit, though, he makes a nice target. Thought that Thurston looked inept playing for Chipper at 3B, tonight. He waived at two singles between him and SS and made a bad throw to Infante at 2B to get a force out (saved by Infante).

My bet is on Brooks Conrad both as a fielder and more versitile hitter (switch hitter at that) for the 25th roster spot.

Everyone sat up and noticed Billy Wagner, tonight. He shut up the obnoxious Phillies fans that had booed him rather quickly. I really like his no-nonsense approach to shutting the other team down. Really nice for a second appearance against mostly Phillie regulars.

Even though Heyward didnt do much at the plate tonight, I came away pretty impressed with his eye at the plate. He had the discipline to lay off some borderline pitches.

It looks like that there is a chance that he could develop a reputation from the umps of having a good eye, meaning that down the line he could get the benefit of doubt on some pitches that could be called either way. Bonds was like that. In the latter part of his career, he’d take pitch after pitch for balls and wait for that one pitch to drive into the cheap seats.

“I think we need him to be a contender in the East. We need him from Day 1. I would have said we needed Hanson from Day 1 last year. They didn’t think it was the right thing to do. It could have made a difference in the long run. It might not have, I don’t know.

“But the complexion of our lineup drastically changes if Jason Heyward’s not in there.”
