Braveheart–great matty d story, feel like i have done that once or twice
February 25th, 201010:30 pm
Rob in SC,
Don’t know, never got the Bill James handbook before. I’ve heard you can’t go wrong with either though.
February 25th, 201010:33 pm
Not exactly sure how it all works, but just curious if shultz and/or bradley ever say anything to you about how involved in this blog you are. I know that you prolly cant talk about it. now that i think about it because that may not be so terribly professional of you.
Daybed: Yes, The Man Comes Around was one of the last songs he wrote. Most of those songs on the American Recordings albums were covers — brilliant covers. But he wrote that one.

I just got run off the road by a Grand Cherokee that was out of control.
The under carriage of my Mercedes is f^**#@. My husband hurried to the scene to see what happened, said “where is this stupid %^&*
These people are crazy out there, please be watchful and careful.
Let’s go Braves 2010!!!!!!
February 25th, 201010:36 pm
I agree with Vitale (shocking, I know) in his analysis that Bledsoe, while could be a drafted in the 1st round, should stay. It would benefit him to have one more year working on his assist/turnover ratio and be a little more consistent with his shot.
February 25th, 201010:38 pm
DOB, don’t get me wrong. I loved No Country. I guess I’m just more a fan of the “quirky” Coen movies. My favorites are Lebowski, Fargo, Raising Arizona, Miller’s Crossing, etc. I think they’re worst movie is better than some directors’ best. I haven’t disliked any of their films. I just think A Serious Man was more of a return to form, I guess. Wouldn’t be in my top 5 Coen movies, but I would put it in top 10, maybe slightly ahead of No Country.
February 25th, 201010:46 pm
DOB- Sorry I’ve been out of town and maybe you have talked about this. How is Mitch Jones doing and how is Glaus hitting? Does he seem to have his power back after shoulder surgery?
February 25th, 201010:55 pm
kentucky has shown just how big of a fluke their only loss was tonight. too bad kansas doesn’t play tenn again. i’m about 90 percent sure they would lose to them again.
February 25th, 201010:57 pm
big props to the cats for winning their 44th sec championship tonight. that’s pretty rediculous.
February 25th, 201011:02 pm

too bad kansas doesn’t play tenn again. i’m about 90 percent sure they would lose to them again.
I dunno…That game in Tennessee was right after the suspentions and UT was livin’ off of huge emotion that night, the same type of emotion from which South Carolina benefitted. Been sayin’ for 6-8 weeks that I would love a UK-KU championship. They have the most talent and would put on the most enjoyable game.

“Out of baseball since July 20,2007. Launched a singing career in DOMINICAN REPUBLIC.” —- richbrave
Hey, rich. congratulations, buddy. Man, I didn’t even know you could speak spanish.
February 25th, 201011:06 pm
Buenos noches Tomas…Que pasa?
February 25th, 201011:11 pm
Brothers and Sisters……..if you’ve never seen “WWII in HD” on the History Channel…………you owe it to yourself to watch…..most all of your problems will fade away…….Very compelling……we are, without a doubt, the luckiest people to have ever liived….we worry about our Braves (and rightfully so), but there are people that have not a warm or dry structure to live in or anything but dirt to eat….thank your God……..and please let Matty D play all year.
February 25th, 201011:20 pm
Hi Lady, No mucho, lo que está pasando con usted?
Actually, I think all of that LA rain we’re getting, is playing havok with the TV. Lost a station, earlier, for a short time. Now, NBC just went down for the 2nd time. It’s back, but I missed Ms. Flatt’s (sp?) results of her skating. You can let me know in about 3 hours.
February 25th, 201011:24 pm
I have no idea what pasando means (VJ just pointed out that you spelled havoc wrong) I can tell you how Rachel did if you want- I am watching on the computer (at least the scores). And just so you know, it was beautiful today- breezy, sunny and rather warm so don’t blame your 9 feet of snow on us
cab……yo gusto cali………mucho gusto el Sierra Nevada…esta bonito………..btw, soy boraccho
February 25th, 201011:31 pm
AustinBrave: Glaus has looked good in BP, at least againt the coaches (to be honest, none of the hitters have looked good against the real pitchers this early, but they almost never do for the first days of spring training). I haven’t seen Mitch Jones hit yet because he’s been on back field and I’ve stayed on the main field. Asked Cox about him, since the manager went back and watched those young guys and six-year minor league free agents hit today. He was impressed by him and especially by Freddie Freeman.
Cox said today of Freeman: “He’s gonna be a real good major leaguer – and not far away.”…
Lexbrave: Be honest, you really don’t know much at all about hoops, do you? Oh, well. You’ve got a strong team to pull for, at least. But you could learn a thing or two from Heath and others who are more than blind homers with no real knowledge of the other great programs.
I know quite a few Kentucky fans — work with a couple of them, know a few others who work for the Braves or work out in the same gym as me, etc. I think you’re the only one I’ve ever met that follows UK but has no clue about college basketball outside of your conference.
February 25th, 201011:32 pm
I am assuming you are saying you like the Sierra Nevada mountains…or the beer…both of which are excellent- family has a place in the mountains and I drink plenty of the beer
(my 7th grade spanish is rather limited these days…try french perhaps?)
February 25th, 201011:40 pm
Of the good teams…I least want to watch SU. While they play in the zone defense better than anyone, I find myself uninterested in that style. They make it work, no doubt, but just not interesting style of play for me. Not sure how you feel about that…but that is my two cents on that team.
DOB said, “Cox said Freeman is going to be a real good major league pitchers, and not too far away….”
Freeman is a pitcher?
February 25th, 201011:42 pm
cabravesfan, pasando = happening. If you’re going to speak the language, try to understand it.
I remember when “Rachel” once posted that, “I never correct spelling, except in extreme circumstances, other than for a certain So. Cal. lady” (paraphrasing)
I can only assume that he found havoc to be an “extreme circumstance”.
Oh, 9 feet of snow is more like 9 inches of water. And I wasn’t blaming it on you. Around these parts, LA means Lower Albany. C’mon , try to keep up.
cab………..at one time I was in law enforcement……had so many Mexican migrants…..they would get arrested and spend weeks in jail because no one knew how to speak their language to tell them how to get out……took it upon myself to learn enough Spanish so they could post bond……but my less than 7th grade Spanish didn’t do enough…..my parents raised me to be better than that.
February 25th, 201011:44 pm
cab………..yes, I was talking about the mountains……….do not like the beer.
February 25th, 201011:45 pm
mark fox can coach, 100% agree. we just cant finish.
sorry heath. i am sec through and through, but the sec somewhat stinks.
georgia who lost to just about everybody in non-con, has now beaten vandy, tenn, alabama, and south carolina. should of beaten vandy at vandy tonight, took kentucky to the wire at at kentucky.
then again we did be beat illinios and tech.
nobody in the west deserves to make the tourney.
cab ……….do you know Kernville (sp)?…..and “The Valley of 100 Giants?”
February 25th, 201011:46 pm
I thought the know snow to water ratio was more like 3 to 1? I am definitely no meteorologist, so I could be waaaaaaay off on that. But 12 to 1 ratio sounds pretty extreme. (You may be not even be serious about that comment, I haven’t been following your conversation, just saw that and it stuck out to me.)
February 25th, 201011:49 pm
Technically it was me that corrected your spelling on the blog- “Rachel” merely mentioned it to me
Can’t say that I am familiar with Kernville…Kern County, yes. And I do have to say that the Sierra Nevada mountains are among the most beautiful sights I have ever seen (of course, I may be a bit biased…been spending a lot of time there for the last 30 years )
February 25th, 201011:50 pm
It doesn’t get much better than this.
Sorry- when I hear “LA” I assume Los Angeles…but I suspect you knew that
February 25th, 201011:51 pm
When did I ever talk up the SEC? All I said was that KU and UK had the most talent with regard to UK. Heck, I was even disagreeing that KU would lose again to UT. I think maybe you read incorrectly.
February 25th, 201011:52 pm
anyone read jersey gill’s link in the new york times?
seems francoeur is still francoeur. he is predicting 27 bombs.
he says he now has a approach. well color me blind. heard the same thing last year after his visit to texas.
note to frenchy, saying you are going to hit 27 bombs directly to the media in new york is a lot different then saying that in atlanta.
February 25th, 201011:56 pm
cab…..I left Las Vegas on my bike..rode through Death Valley and spent the night in the …..absolutely wonderful Sierra Nevadas at about 7000 feet in Kernville…..but the Giant Sequoias……magical!
February 25th, 201011:58 pm
kentucky walks out the floor with more talent then anyone in the sec.
they are not being challenged everynight.
the top six teams in the big east may not have more talent, but they are and will be battle tested when the tourney rolls around.
you could make a great argument that the big east deserves 10 in the tourney.
February 25th, 201011:59 pm
You talkin’ to me? (De Niro)
I have to assume you are ‘cuz no one else has mentioned snow. If you’re gonna comment on the conversation, would it kill you to scroll back a bit, to see what it’s about?
cabravesfan alluded to (and exaggerated to bust my buns) all the snow we’ve received. She said 9 feet. Because of the temperature, we’ve received, and still are, mostly rain. So I converted her 9 ft. on snow into 9 in. of rain. Capiche?
The next time, I may not have this much time on my hands. You may have to read.
cab….I’m sorry that I keep talking to you………got no one else at the moment…………LA to me means Lower Alabama…..UCLA = Upper Corner of Lower Alabama………..I know….I’m a rube.
February 26th, 201012:01 am
My family place is a bit further south- about an hour and a half north east of Fresno…but it is truly amazing (we are at about 7000 too) That trip sounds like it would be fun
February 26th, 201012:02 am
uga……(my favorite place……Greene county?)……..I got my money on Syracuse
DOB, You’re not referring to Mark and Herb, are you? They are or were the biggest Cats fans I’ve ever run across. Especially Herb. Just wonderin’
you could easily run into a eighth seeded team like pitt, or conn.
i have watched the cats all year. their half court offense is average. you have a point guard that wants to score. in transiton nobody can match you, but in slow half court game?
No problem You know how I interpret LA…what ucla translates to is probably unprintable on a family blog…
Technically it was me that corrected your spelling on the blog- “Rachel” merely mentioned it to me
Thank you. Now the world makes sense again. Well, at least the blog.
February 26th, 201012:07 am
New Red Sox digs in Fort Myers.
February 26th, 201012:08 am
cab…..left my home in GA…….rode trough places most people will never see…..picked up the PCH at Morrow Bay…….they wouldn’t let me ride through Pebble Beach…..”No Motorcycles”…..but I got Big Sur, Golden Gate, Redwood, Coos Bay……….and many others…………stopped at the intersection of 40 and 41 for a rest….saw the monument to James Dean who died right there…….cool stop.
February 26th, 201012:09 am

Anybody catch that Amy Winehouse concert that Palladia is running this week?
Dig her tunes, and she has an “I can’t look away” quality about her. Not saying she’s hot, because she’s actually kind of manly, but she’s interesting.
But that woman is a human train wreck. I’ve never been so uncomfortable watching somebody perform. It literally looked like she had the shakes on stage. Her straps on her shirt kept falling off her shoulders. At one point it looked as though she was going to cough up a lung, in between verses of a song. So what did she do to solve it? Looked she took a huge shot of Jagermeister.
It sounded like she was singing in “tongues”. I’ve seen her live on Leno and all the talk shows, I’ve seen clips of her here and there but this was frickin horrible. If I’m her management, I do my best to make sure that never airs again.
It had the appeal of a guy standing on the ledge of a building, threatening to jump. I knew I shouldn’t be watching it, because I might be scarred for life….. yet couldn’t turn the channel.
cab….I fein ignorance on UCLA
February 26th, 201012:13 am
I’ve done the drive up the coast through Big Sur, Monterey, Pebble, etc. Stunning drive Also seen the James Dean site- have a cousin that lives not too far from there. Lots of beauty on the West Coast
Freeman is a pitcher? Runnin
yeah they switched him over during the winter, didn’t you hear?
N8…………acknowledge the other Chiefs fan?…….nevermind how I got there…..I’m there.
February 26th, 201012:14 am
I fein ignorance on UCLA
No comment…don’t want to get banned from the blog
Got tickets to the Nova/Cuse game at the Dome. I was there the last time they broke the attendance record against Nova in G-Mac’s last game. Best atmosphere I have ever seen a game in. I thought I would never see it topped, but it looks like Saturday will be even crazier. No better place to watch a game than the Dome when it’s rockin’.
February 26th, 201012:16 am

Man, there are those that accidentally incur wrath, and then, there are those that just go out and look for it.
February 26th, 201012:17 am
anyone get this feeling that mark mcgwire is still full of it.
always tearful. sure did not mind parading is chunky kid around for the publicity when the chase was on.
cab…..I would live in Big Sur……if I had a skill that would net me enough money to pay my bills. People that have never seen the Rockies or the Coastal Mountains do not know what they are missing……live your east coast life……but make time for the west coast..before you die, go to Yellowstone…..what a transcendt place.
February 26th, 201012:18 am
Great…now he’s correcting my grammar??? Hope he enjoys the sofa…
February 26th, 201012:19 am
I would go with Carmel…Big Sur is a bit remote for my taste but you could certainly do worse
uga……..McGwire = Bonds…..would not piss on either if they were on fire.
People that have never seen the Rockies or the Coastal Mountains do not know what they are missing……live your east coast life……but make time for the west coast..before you die, go to Yellowstone…. SALT LIFE
amen, great advice. Course Niagara is in the east and it’s pretty great too especially from the Canadian side.
February 26th, 201012:21 am
..McGwire = Bonds Salt
not on a bet. Bonds was way better than mark and will eventually be in the HOF, Mc won’t.
February 26th, 201012:22 am
cab………..Carmel used to have the baddest mayor that ever lived………”make my day”……..”the hell with them fellows….buzzards gotta eat, same as worms”
February 26th, 201012:24 am
Mc won’t…….hopefully Bonds will be in prison…..what a POS
Andrew in PA
Nolie how’s the night treating ya
All I have said is that UK and KU have the most talent…nothing more, nothing less. Not sure why it seems you think I have said something else. I have no doubt that if UK played in the Big East, since you mentioned that league, they would have lost a couple more games. That, however, doesn’t change their level of talent. With regard to a weaker league (the SEC being behind the Big East, Big 12, Big 10 and ACC), I don’t think it is the end of the world. Memphis, when Cal was there, hardly ever lost in their league, and they performed well in the tournament when they had this level of talent. Heck, Gonzaga and Butler play in lower-tier leagues and can, with the right match-ups, make deep runs. I think the “my league is tougher than yours” argument is, frankly, tired and irrelevant. The regular season is all about improving and positioning yourself (UK has done fine in both regards). All the rest doesn’t matter. What matters are the match-ups in the bracket.
February 26th, 201012:25 am
Figured you were just messin’ around with someone…no malice intended.
.hopefully Bonds will be in prison…. Salt
I seriously doubt that is gonna happen.
February 26th, 201012:26 am
Hi Andrew, how much white stuff today?
OK- time for bed and Olympics…not necessarily in that order Good night all!
It’s been a pleasure
February 26th, 201012:27 am
nolie……..next summer I will tick off the last of the lower 48 on the bike…..and yes, I will ride to Niagra…and Acadia…….and through the streets of Boston……never been..my parents say Maine is absolutely gorgeous.
February 26th, 201012:29 am
It is Salt. Good for you. I’ve been to all 50 over the years but couldn’t ride my bike to Hawaii. Actually only about 30 states on a bike, the rest by car. It’s a beautiful country no doubt.
February 26th, 201012:30 am
was listenting to michael kay, the yanks play by play guy on the vasquez trade.
he basicaly agreed, salary dump.
boone logan for dunn, he said you got a lefty that cant throw strikes and we got yours.
on mellky, he said the guy is not afraid of the spotlight. said he has a plus arm from center and left. good clubhouse guy.
now they have granderson, pretty sure they will not miss melky.
You’ll be pleased to know the sofa threat appears to have been just that…
February 26th, 201012:31 am
Heath , no man, of course not.
cabravesfan, sleep well, my dear. Will Jim be joining us now? (considering he has to sleep on the sofa, anyway)
February 26th, 201012:36 am
uga-brave, caps button– use it.
Oh, so Heyward hits the ball hard, huh? Doesn’t impress me. Adjusting to 95mph heat to 80mph changeups to sharp sliders to wicked curves impresses me.
Enough. The kid hasn’t proven a dang thing, yet so many of you are already pinning him the next big thing. Gimmie a break!
February 26th, 201012:37 am
nolie…….I’m sure you are right….but Martha Stewart may have something for bb
i am a georgia alum. i bleed sec. my point is, you have three freshman coasting through a weak league.
please dont give me sos or rpi. just a eye test.
there is no way kentucky should lose another game until the big dance.
February 26th, 201012:38 am
Someone peed in AtTheMike’s Cheerios.
February 26th, 201012:41 am
i bleed sec UGA
I prefer brut myself
AtheMike, is that better?
Venice Jim……….I am the “sofa king”……because I am always “sofa king”……drunk, inconsiderate, old, whatever
February 26th, 201012:42 am
Oh, and Heyward’s size….so what? Sure, he has the ability to hit more homers if he gets a hold of one, but that thing– this ain’t AA. These pitchers make a living keeping you off balance.
I’m telling you all–this has Francoeur written all over it.
Mike’s just ona them tough love kinda guys. It’s tough to get his love.
February 26th, 201012:43 am
We get it AtTheMike. You don’t have to buy Heyward’s rookie card if you don’t want to.
February 26th, 201012:44 am
nolie, well at least you did not say “high karate.”
almost spit up after i read RHR’s comment earlier about tnbrian.
February 26th, 201012:47 am
uga……I hate the sec……..I hope all but UGA fail……we have to beat them on a consistent basis….fla? I’d rather eat my own pooh……tenn?……hope that fault line under them ruptures……….saban?…hope he goes to pooh, falls through his a$$ and hangs himself….btw I have good friends that are fans of those schools…….except fla…I would never associate with anyone that likes fla.
Acknowledgement honored Salt. Welcome aboard for the …..er…. ride. LOL
I’d say things are looking up in KC, but it’s hard for them not to after 10 wins in the 3 seasons. Literally nowhere to go but up… or Detroit.
February 26th, 201012:48 am
nolie– you guys have my love. That’s why I’m preaching about not getting your hopes up on this Heyward. They’ll be some shattered dreams if this kid turns out Frenchy part duex.
February 26th, 201012:49 am
No worries, I am last on the list to quote numbers from the RPI or SOS or ABC or whatever. UK is young, yes. UK, along with KU, has the most superior talent…yes. I happen to think that UK has more raw talent than anyone, but I think they are more beatable than KU (whom I think is the best “team”). UK could very easily lose this weekend to Tennessee. It is a rivalry game, and UT have already proven that when just about averything goes right they can beat the best of teams (KU). So, I won’t be too upset about a loss. With regard to losses, I typically don’t believe that team “needs” to lose a game or anything like that most of time. This team, however, I think the loss to Carolina was probably good for the team…their confidence had been changin’ over to over-confidence. With all the talk of the Freshmen on and Sophmores (Miller, Liggins, and Dodson), I still think that Patterson is the key to whether or not UK does well in the tournament. If he plays like he has the last three games, that frees up Cousins even more and they can really dominate as a tandem.
February 26th, 201012:51 am
Man, I think it’s good that I’m way above sea level. A few local network affiliate stations, were going on and off. Now, they’re both off. Also, some other local stations went down. I haven’t checked them all, just went to satellite music. However, I lost my internet connection, briefly, and had to reboot.
“What in the wide, wide, wide world of sports is a goin’ on here?”
i gotta believe all the scouts on heyward. i will be shocked if he does not become a plus plus guy.
the dude is from a dartmouth educated family, not that this matters but it is a plus.
his size at this age reminds me of mirror image of dave winfield.
never seen him play, but like winfield he will grow into that body.
February 26th, 201012:52 am
N8……..every Sunday unless the Braves are in post season…….my sunday attire is the no. 14 Podolak…….postseason Braves is Hoss……..but I do like Jamaal….
February 26th, 201012:53 am
N8……I spend $400 a year to watch mt Chiefs.
February 26th, 201012:55 am
mt = my….I can’t spell, obviously.
February 26th, 201012:56 am
Jason could very well turn into a plus plus guy and soon. But he hasn’t proved a thing yet is all I’m saying. I choose not to listen to some who say he’s a different animal than Frenchy was coming up through the system. Personally, I almost have to set myself up for the same disappointment if Heyward becomes a bust in Atlanta like Jeff did.
February 26th, 201012:57 am
They’ll be some shattered dreams if this kid turns out Frenchy part duex. Mike
I’ve seen them both play, there is little comparison. I don’t know how great Heyward will be, but I’ll bet a somewhat sizable sackful of shekels that he is better than Jeffy
But if you can’t be optimistic now during Spring Training–the holiest of times–when can you be optimistic?
February 26th, 201012:58 am
I’m sure this is well-known around here, but being fairly new to the bloggage….Where is Carroll? When does she begin her work with the Braves and begin to spell DOB from working himself into a coffee-induced coma?
February 26th, 201012:59 am
kentucky is blessed with the probably the best guard in the country and a great tandem down low with cous and patterson.
bledsoe can be a sniper, but i think you guys are missing that wing type of player.
then again if you clamp on that defense and play transition basketball,
you will out athlete every other team you face.
February 26th, 20101:00 am
dave i think you of all people shouldnt call someone out for being a homer. and to say im clueless just proves that point. im willing to bet ive watched kansas play more than youve seen kentucky play this year. you know how i know that? because if you had, you could check your pride and admit that kentucky puts more talent on the floor than kansas does. and if you dont believe me just wait and see how many jayhawks get drafted over kentucky players in the next draft.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
