jeffrey d, I can’t speak for all bloggers, but for me my patience and respect for Francoeur went out the window when he pouted, cried and flat out bitched about them sending him down to the minors.
If you want to see how that should have been handled, check out the grace in which KJ handled it.
Jeff can still play. I just don’t want guys with that attitude playing for my favorite team. It was time to move on. I wish him well.
I really had no problem with Jeff’s comments when he was demoted. It sounded like he was just venting out some frustrations, but I think a lot of people blew it out of proportion.
CB – Yeah, I know I’m not gonna win that fight. I just think people wanted to see Francoeur as a crybaby, when he was really just a very frustrated young man.
“Just saying…people talk like Francoeur is the worst offensive player since Belliard, when he’s had 1.5 bad seasons compared to 3 good seasons.”
Frenchy had 232 games (2008 until the trade) where he was the worst everyday RF in baseball. He’s never had three good seasons, he’s had two good half seasons. 2005 with the Braves and 2009 with the Mets
Jeffrey d, I’m not going to argue with you, because you are probably right. He was frustrated. But I bet KJ was frustrated too.
He just handled it differently. I like a guy to be team first. EVERYTHING that KJ said upon his demotion showed me he cared about Bobby and the team and was going to work hard to improve himself. Jeff said his relationship with the Braves was broken or damaged or whatever reason he gave. Bush if you ask me, no matter how frustrated he was.
If he wants to use frustration as an excuse for yapping, then I guess all the bloggers aren’t out of line griping about him (or other players)…
jeffrey D – all I wanted to see from Francoeur was for him to acknowledge his struggles and accept his demotion. He shouldve known it was coming and to bad mouth the organization was just flat out wrong. He was never man enough to even apologize for his words or his actions. He felt like he was entitled to something when he hadnt earned anything yet. My employer would fire me on the spot
Reading Chipper’s recent comments, it reminds me… There are two types of leaders. I’ll use NBA coaches who have won several rings in the past decade as an example.
First, you have the Phil Jackson type. He wants his players a little cocky. He’ll show them on a white board at the start of the playoffs how many wins they need to win the whole thing. He’s taken public jabs at opponents and put down other teams. He likes to play head games.
Then you have Greg Popovich. He wants his players grounded at all times. If anyone dares THINK about a game beyond the next game on the schedule, he’ll smack them. He praises other teams, and undersells his own team. No head games. No nonsense.
Chipper is cut from the latter mold. He doesn’t hype much. Some people hear him say stuff like “This team has questions”, and they incorrectly take it as a lack of confidence in his own team. That’s not it. That’s just him. He’s always erring on the side of caution and humility. He’s the down to earth, keep the team humble kind of guy.
So shoot me, I still like Francoeur. He was hyped as much or more than Heyward before he was called up, and gave the Braves a lift in 2005. He then struggled and failed (probably for the first time in his life), fans(?) jumped on him badly, he let it into his psyche, and he didn’t handle it too well. Who would?
I think he is every bit as awful as he is made out to be. That last season and a half in Atlanta were among the least productive seasons in the Majors. Even in his productive years were not nearly as productive as they appeared due to his total inability to get on base. Any perceived under-rating going now is just payback for how over-rated he was before.
Why in the heck are we re-hashing Francoeur? Let the Mets blogs debate him.
If you want a Francoeur fix, go back and read the blogs from last spring training. You can bone up on all the positive changes in his hitting approach, or how he deserves to win his arbitration case.
Andrew in PA: hey srry for taking so ling to respond…I play on ESPN the league name is ATL BRAVOS if you give me your email I can send you an invite that is if you can’t find it the draft is Friday around 3 or so…if anyone else wants to join feel free it’s a public league so just join the league

In 2006, JF had 83 runs scored and 103 RBIs.
In 2007, JF had 84 runs scored and 105 RBIs.
Both of those would have been 2nd on the team in 2009. If you hate JF for sucking in his final days at Atlanta, fine. If you hate him for being upset about his demotion, that’s fine too. But at least acknowledge that he has talent and he’s shown it in Atlanta for 2 and a half years.
Just saying (your 3:23 post).my sister was flight attendant for 35 years. Ran the DC to LA and back route for many years….lots of hollywood and politicians. Asked who was the nicest celebrity she ever had on a flight was…….. she didn’t hesitate for one second…………….Red Skeleton!
I acknowledge that he had those numbers, but my guess is if you put a league average outfielder in the same spot he puts up better numbers. In case you failed to notice, Jeff F was on the 2009 team and he did not put up those numbers. On a side note, I think it is a great thing he turned down that contract offer we made him and that he stopped performing when he did. If he had kept putting up those tempting total numbers the Braves would have felt a lot of pressure to sign him to a big contract.
“So…either “The Invention of Lying” or “Law Abiding Citizen”
I was pleasantly surprised by the latter while the former was largely better in concept than execution. Caveat: Ricky Gervais’ appeal escapes me. Then again, I’m not much of a King Leonidas fan, either, but he impressed me in LAC.

well like they say rs and rbi are not good metrics to judge individual players by. so quoting them isn’t gonna impress those who think he was lame. His OBP & his OPS pretty much stunk for a corner outfielder and that has always been the bash on him. some believe one way some another, but there is unlikely to be a meeting of the minds cause the core tenets are so different.
Even the stat snobs have to admit that Runs and RBIs are at least somewhat accurate in determining a player’s value. I don’t see how you can call a 100+ RBI season bad just because his JORB+ is 72.
I don’t think so Smitty, but thanks for asking. just never liked it all that much and now that I have the time I just don’t have the inclination. Good luck with your league though.
