Rookie relief pitcher Luis Valdez is having visa problems in the Dominican Republic and isn’t expected to report to spring training for at least two or three more days.
He had 27 saves and a 3.28 ERA in 58 appearances for Class AAA Gwinnett in 2009, with 75 strikeouts in 71-1/3 innings.
Valdez pitched in three games (0-1, 3.38 ERA) in his first major-league callup and is considered a longshot among the five or more relievers expected to compete for one or possibly two spots in the opening-day bullpen.

It’s 8:00 on a saturday night and I’m watching Olympic Curling and reading David O’Brien. What does that say about me?
PS the USA team just won.

I see Jordan Schaefer in there before June, too, if he doesn’t make it out of camp.
By the way, starting pitching and bullpen both look very good!

rpmob- I know the feeling. I gave up on the curling and am watching NCIS reruns.
While reading DOB, of course.

Has there ever been a spring training where the visa thing hasn’t been an issue for someone. Even before 9/11.
Question for DOB: Whatever happened to the free agent pitcher who seemed so promising last spring, but got hit with a 50-game substance suspension?

Why is it every year someone has Visa problems? Can’t they learn to control their credit card spending? Seriously, can’t you apply for your visa a month ahead of spring training and not worry about it?

This kid tore it up in the DWL. Any reason to think those numbers can’t translate?
